<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volvo">Volvo</a> has put together R-Design packages for its newly facelifted <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volvo/s60">S60</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volvo/v60">V60</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volvo/xc60">XC60</a> models, and for those who want more bark to go with them, there's a power upgrade for the S60 and V60 courtesy of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/polestar">Polestar</a> performance. The aesthetics start with new front and rear fascias, the grille going frameless and Tech Matte Black with a silk metal diagonal bar, the back end getting a finned diffuser and round R-Design tailpipes. On top of that, the S60 and V60 are lowered 15 millimeters and can be fitted with 19-inch versions of the company's Ixion wheel pattern.<br />
<br />
The R-Design sport chassis stiffens things up, items like the rear dampers getting 20-percent stiffer while front bushings get a whopping 400-percent stiffer. Inside there's a black headliner, perforated leather mixed with nubuck and contrasting stitching on the sport seats, or a full leather option for those who love their cow, and the Adaptive Digital Display gets a blue hue when set to the Elegance appearance theme.<br />
<br />
Buyers of the 3.0-liter T6 engine can add the Polestar performance option, which cranks things up to 329 horsepower instead of the standard 304 hp, and an exclusive accelerator pedal comes with it. More detail can be found in the press release <a href="/2013/03/27/volvo-s60-xc60-v60-r-design-new-york-2013/#continued">below</a>.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/03/27/volvo-s60-xc60-v60-r-design-new-york-2013/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Volvo rolls out new R-Design versions of S60, XC60 and new V60</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/03/27/volvo-s60-xc60-v60-r-design-new-york-2013/">Volvo rolls out new R-Design versions of S60, XC60 and new V60</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 27 Mar 2013 20:31:00 EST. <br />
As if we weren't already jealous enough about Europe getting <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/02/european-ncap-crowns-volvo-v40-safest-new-car-ever-tested/">one of the safest</a> and most stylish <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volvo/">Volvo</a> cars ever made, the Swedish automaker goes and drops the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/r-design/">R-Design</a> treatment on its new hatchback/wagon. Unlike some other R-Design models, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/volvo%20v40/">2013 Volvo V40</a> R-Design doesn't get any additional power under the hood, but it does come with a more aggressive styling and a lower, firmer suspension setup.<br />
<br />
Looking like the world's edgiest Smurf, the V40 R-Design receives restyled fascias, some slick five-spoke alloy wheels and this exclusive paint color, Rebel Blue - although this model is also available in six other colors. Opting for the Sport chassis gives the five door an even sportier look and feel with a suspension that has been lowered by 10 millimeters. Volvo has made sure to give the V40 R-Design a cabin design that fits the upgraded exterior styling with features like embossed seats with a blue R-Design logo, blue background on the interactive gauge cluster, unique aluminum dash inlays and a black headliner. All of the black leather throughout the cabin is also accented with contrasting white stitching.<br />
<br />
The V40 R-Design does carry over the same engine outputs compared to the regular V40 models, but this isn't exactly a bad thing about the car. Buyers can still get the car with the efficient 115-horsepower diesel engine or they can choose the 254-hp turbocharged inline-five. For improved handling, the springs, shocks and sway bars have all been tuned specifically for the V40 R-Design in cooperation with the Volvo <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/polestar/">Polestar</a> Black R race team.<br />
<br />
With the V40 already targeting younger buyers, Volvo expects this sporty new R-Design model to account for about 10 percent of the model's sales.<br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2012-volvo-xc60-r-design-review/"><img alt="2012 Volvo XC60 R-Design" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2012/08/2012-volvo-xc60-r-design-review.jpg" style="margin-top: 4px; margin-bottom: 4px; width: 628px; height: 417px;" /></a><br />
<br />
There are injustices in the auto industry just like in life. Sometimes the right person gets passed over for a job, the best player doesn't get to start or the wrong verdict is reached by a jury. And sometimes a good vehicle just doesn't get bought. That's what is happening with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volvo/xc60/">Volvo XC60</a>, which ended last year at the bottom of the sales list compared to luxury crossover competitors from <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/lexus/">Lexus</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/cadillac/">Cadillac</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/">BMW</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes-Benz</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/audi/">Audi</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/lincoln/">Lincoln</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/acura/">Acura</a>.<br />
<br />
While it's certainly true that luxury segments are packed with qualified candidates on which to spend your capital gains, the XC60 has compared favorably with the lot of them since its inception back in 2008, and so we're continually befuddled by its comparatively low sales numbers.<br />
<br />
The blame could fall on a lack of marketing dollars behind it, a dearth of dealerships to sell it, or simply because some are wary of Scandinavian brands after what happened to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/saab/">Saab</a>.<br />
Whatever the reason, the XC60 has gone largely unnoticed by U.S. consumers. In response, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volvo/">Volvo</a> is executing a plan that it hopes will attract new eyeballs not only to its attention-starved CUV, but the entire brand as well. That plan's name is <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/polestar/">Polestar</a>, and it's already begun making its way across the entire Volvo lineup. The XC60 is one of the first models to receive Polestar's performance infusion, and we're going to find out if it's enough to make buyers take notice.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/08/01/2012-volvo-xc60-r-design-polestar-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2012 Volvo XC60 R-Design</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/08/01/2012-volvo-xc60-r-design-polestar-review/">2012 Volvo XC60 R-Design</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 01 Aug 2012 11:57:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://autoblog.com/bmw">BMW</a> has its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/bmw+m/">M Division</a>. <a href="http://autoblog.com/mercedes-benz">Mercedes-Benz</a> has <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/amg">AMG</a> and <a href="http://autoblog.com/audi">Audi</a> has a range of S- and RS-badged models. <a href="http://autoblog.com/volvo">Volvo</a> has... well, what does Volvo have, anyway? Yes, we're all familiar with the brand's sterling reputation for safety, and in recent times, for attractive Swedish design. Not long ago, with the introduction of the latest <a href="http://autoblog.com/volvo/s60">S60</a> sedan, Volvo even took a stab at injecting some so-called <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/28/video-naughty-volvos-said-to-be-headed-this-way/">naughtiness</a> into its machinery. And while all those adjectives are welcome, Volvo's reputation in the United States has never really included performance, despite some credible offerings like the <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/volvo 240">240 Turbo</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/volvo%20850r/">850R</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/s60r/">S60R</a>.<br />
<br />
Interestingly enough, that's not necessarily the case in its home market of Sweden, where Volvo has been racing and winning in competition for years, oftentimes with the assistance of a tuning company known as <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/polestar">Polestar</a>. Since 1996, Volvo has been working with Polestar in an official capacity, and for 2012, the automaker is introducing its United States customers to a slew of Polestar-infused models.<br />
<br />
Volvo's entire range of five- and six-cylinder models have been bolstered with performance updates from Polestar, and for the purposes of this article, we'll be taking a closer look at the <a href="http://autoblog.com/volvo/xc60">XC60</a> crossover. As it turns out, this Swedish 'ute offers up plenty of reasons for consideration, even in the face of stiff opposition from Volvo's formidable competition in the entry-level luxury segment.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/03/22/2012-volvo-xc60-r-design-first-drive-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2012 Volvo XC60 R-Design</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/03/22/2012-volvo-xc60-r-design-first-drive-review/">2012 Volvo XC60 R-Design</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 22 Mar 2012 11:57:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volvo">Volvo</a> is known for many things. Well, safety technology, mostly, but not so much performance. Sure, the Swedish automaker has tricked out the occasional sport wagon, but muscle is not really its forte. So where did the extra 25 horsepower and 29 pound-feet of torque come from when Volvo <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/20/2012-volvo-s60-and-xc60-r-design-get-slight-boosts-in-power/">upgraded the latest R-Design S60 and XC60</a> models? <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/polestar">Polestar</a>, if the latest reports are to be believed.<br />
<br />
The Volvo tuner, as you may recall, is responsible for <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/05/04/solid-start-to-the-touring-car-season-for-volvo-polestar-racing/">Volvo's works touring car racing effort</a>, and also gave us <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/04/video-walk-around-of-450-hp-volvo-polestar-c30/">that rip-roarin' baby-blue C30 concept</a> last year. Pretty <em>Swede</em> stuff, if you ask us. And according to Swedespeed.com, it was to Polestar that Volvo turned for those modest, but notable performance upgrades on its R-Design models.<br />
<br />
What's more is that Volvo is reportedly looking into ways to offer Polestar performance upgrades to existing customers - say, owners of the pre-boosted S60 and XC60 R-Design, for example - and potentially offering more upgrades on future models. We wouldn't go so far as to suggest that Polestar is becoming to Volvo what <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/amg">AMG</a> is to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/mercedes-benz">Mercedes-Benz</a> or the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/bmw+m">M</a> division is to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw">BMW</a>, but <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/brabus">Brabus</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/alpina">Alpina</a> - that is to say, quasi-works-endorsed tuning houses - could be models to look to here.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/06/21/volvo-turned-to-polestar-for-s60-and-xc60-r-design-performance-u/">Volvo turned to Polestar for S60 and XC60 R-Design performance upgrades</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 21 Jun 2011 17:36:00 EST. <br />
Hot on the heels of the upgraded <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/20/2012-volvo-s60-and-xc60-r-design-get-slight-boosts-in-power/">S60 and XC60 R-Design</a> models, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/volvo">Volvo</a> has announced two new editions of its top-of-the-line sedan and station wagon.<br />
<br />
First up is the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/s80">S80</a> Executive, which enhances the Swedish flagship's interior with such touches as ventilated, massaging leather seats, an analog clock, plush carpeting and leather on the door panels and instrument cluster - the latter a first for Volvo. In a particularly aspirational touch, Volvo is also offering an optional mini fridge in the back with a pair of crystal drinking glasses.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2012-volvo-v70-r-design/#4104824"><img alt="2012 Volvo V70 R-Design" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2011/05/web250-132012-volvo-s80exec-v70rdes.jpg" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 4px; float: right;" /></a>Meanwhile the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/v70">V70</a> R-Design doesn't get the upgraded engine from its aforementioned stablemates - buyers can choose from a range of powertrain options - but does benefit from a number of cosmetic enhancements. Satin-finish door mirrors house LED turning indicators, new 18-inch wheels are installed, while the interior is swaddled in two-tone, high-contrast black and white leather.<br />
<br />
Both models come equipped with Volvo's Sensus infotainment system, which places the touchscreen display high up on the dashboard to help the driver keep his or her eyes on the road. Follow the jump for the full press release and check out the high-res images in the galleries below.<br />

<br />
While the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/r-design">R-Design</a> packages for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/audi/s60">Volvo S60</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volvo/xc60">XC60</a> add a measure of visual flair to the Swedish family-haulers - as well as some suspension tweaks - the one thing they're lacking is a commensurate boost in power. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/volvo">Volvo</a> R-Design models are closer to an AMG, M-Sport or S-Line appearance package than an actual <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/mercedes-benz">Mercedes-Benz</a> AMG, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw">BMW</a> M or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/audi">Audi</a> S or RS performance model. But Volvo is out to fix that with a pair of revised offerings for 2012.<br />
<br />
Bearing the same R-Design nomenclature, the sporty versions of the S60 sedan and XC60 crossover will now benefit from an extra 25 horsepower and 29 lb-ft of torque coming out of their turbocharged six-cylinder T6 engine, bringing it up from 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque to 325 hp and 354 lb-ft respectively.<br />
<br />
The rest of the parameters carry over from the existing R-Design models, but the increased output ought to make Volvo's warmed-over range that much more enticing. Unfortunately, the upgraded engine does not appear, however, to be available on the V60 R-Design sport wagon that bridges the gap between the S60 and XC60 models.<br />
<br />

<br />
Despite the company's storied rally history, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/volvo">Volvo</a> seems to have eschewed building its line of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/r-design">R-Design</a> vehicles into street-legal racers in favor of simply creating design packages that give the company's sedans, crossovers and hatches some much-needed attitude. In the case of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/xc-60">2011 XC60 R-Design</a>, that means the vehicle evolves from a mild-mannered high-rider into a machine begging to be seen delivering a load of equally well-dressed ladies to an exclusive night spot. It may not be able to reduce its tires to a cloud of carcinogens or successfully execute a Scandinavian flick, but this CUV is a much more attractive offering than its straight-laced siblings. <br />

<br />
We recently drove the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/audi/s60">2011 Volvo S60</a> in the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/20/2011-volvo-s60-first-drive-road-test-review/">wilds of Oregon</a> and came away rather impressed with both its performance and in-person aesthetics. That said, we generally don't begrudge a bit more visual aggression, and to that end, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/volvo/">Volvo</a> has obliged with a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/21/volvo-reveals-s60-and-v60-r-design-models-ahead-of-paris-debut/">pair of new R-Design models</a> here at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/paris-motor-show/">Paris Motor Show</a> that includes the S60 sedan and its not-for-North-America <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/07/05/officially-official-volvo-v60-sports-wagon-gets-surprisingly/">V60</a>, a wagon so attractive that we couldn't help but lead off our live coverage with it.<br />
<br />
In either case, the well-integrated R-Design package consists of a distinct front fascia, rear bumper cutout with diffuser and bespoke 18-inch alloys in a fetching smoked finish. While there isn't any more power under the hood, the 300-horsepower 3.0-liter inline turbo six should fit the bill rather nicely, especially with its generous 325 pound-feet of torque. No word on any shift-map changes for the six-speed automatic gearbox, but what we'd really like to see for this sportier S60 is a set of paddle shifters.<br />
<br />
That aside, R-Design models ought to handle a bit better than their more common brethren, as they hug the ground a bit more closely thanks to shorter, stiffer coils and monotube shocks. The rest of the suspension gets beefed up, too, with firmer bushings and a front strut-tower brace. Check out our from-the-floor images below and the official press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/30/paris-2010-volvo-v60-and-s60-r-design-models-look-a-good-bit-na/#continued">after the jump</a>.<br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/volvo">Volvo</a> has been so kind as to give us an inkling of what to expect from the company when it arrives at this year's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/paris-motor-show/">Paris Motor Show</a>. The Swedish carmaker will display new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/17/volvo-s60-r-design-headed-for-paris-other-variants-under-consid/">R-Design versions</a> of both the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/20/2011-volvo-s60-first-drive-road-test-review/">S60</a> sedan and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/v60">V60 wagon</a>. According to the press release, both cars will receive the usual go-fast treatment, starting with a few aesthetic changes outside. The R-Design cars will wear a more aggressive fascia up front, unique 18-inch alloys, revised sports seats inside and a few suspension tweaks to help everything stay planted through the twisties. <br />
<br />
That means firmer bushings all the way around, a strut-tower brace up front and lower, stiffer coils on all four corners. The icing on the cake is a new corner traction control system that uses a torque-vectoring system to make for smoother cornering, a compelling feature that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/20/2011-volvo-s60-first-drive-road-test-review/">we just tested on the plain-jane S60 T6 all-wheel drive</a>. Don't look for any extra horsepower under the hood, though. Volvo has left the usual array of engines completely untouched. Both the R-Design S60 and V60 will debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show next month. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/21/volvo-reveals-s60-and-v60-r-design-models-ahead-of-paris-debut/#continued">Hit the jump</a> for the full press release.<br />

<br />
Although the first examples of Volvo's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/s60">new-for-2011 S60 sedan</a> won't hit North American showrooms until later this month, Autoblog has learned that the Swedish automaker will unveil a sporty new R-Design derivative at the upcoming <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/paris-motor-show/">Paris Motor Show</a>. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/volvo/">Volvo</a> of North America's Vice President of Public Affairs, Geno Effler confirmed the debut Thursday during a media Q&amp;A session at this week's U.S. launch of the S60 in Portland, Oregon.<br />
<br />
The S60 R-Design will join Volvo's growing range of performance styled models that includes the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volvo/xc60">XC60</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/xc90">XC90</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/s40">S40</a>/<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/v50">V50</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volvo/c30">C30 hatchback</a>. Effler did not give further details regarding the hotted-up S60, but other models in the series have included rejiggered suspensions, body kits, unique wheels and a host of minor interior upgrades. It is not known if the already sharp-looking S60 will receive more than cosmetic changes in its transformation into a R-Design model, however.<br />
<br />
At launch, the $37,700 all-wheel drive S60 will be marketed with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine good for 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, which should certainly be enough to make the R-Design interesting, even if no further powertrain upgrades are in store.<br />
<br />
Future S60 variants are expected to include a front-drive, five-cylinder volume model that's due to hit the market early next year. Hybrid and diesel models also continue to be evaluated under Volvo's new ownership and leadership (China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group and former <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/volkswagen/">Volkswagen</a> bigwig <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/24/report-volkswagens-stefan-jacoby-coming-to-volvo-in-august/">Stefan Jacoby</a>, respectively), but as of yet, nothing has been committed to for the North American market.<br />
<br />
One model that will definitely not be available in the States is a wagon variant of the S60. With estate sales in the dumpster for the brand (Volvo once sold over 40,000 load luggers per year in the U.S. - it presently sells around 1,800 units), Effler confirmed that a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/v70">V70</a> reprisal does not make sense for North America, though the model will continued to be offered in Europe. A replacement for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volvo/xc70">XC70</a> softroader based on the new S60 is widely expected to make up the shortfall, however.<br />

<br />From the "You knew it was coming" file is word that Volvo is readying an R-Design variant of their new XC60 crossover. With the company's sporty trim designation finding its way into nearly every product in the fold (C30, S40, V50, S80, V70, and XC90), the move may be an expected one, but it is pleasant nonetheless.<br /><br />Given that it features stiffer damping (Volvo doesn't specify how much firmer), a more robust chassis (Volvo doesn't specify how it's reinforced) and improved steering (thanks to a new, "direct steering gear") than its more prosaic counterparts, the R-Design isn't purely an appearance package, but with no underhood work, it isn't far off. That's in keeping with the brand, though, as Volvos aren't traditionally the most sporting offerings in their segment.<br /><br />In the case of the XC60, the R-Design is distinguished by its color-keyed lower body (standard XC60s are matte black), "matte silk metal finish" flourishes (grille, mirror caps, trim moldings), unique 18-inch "Cratus" pattern alloys (20-inch pieces are optional) as well as skid plates and a pair of chromed exhaust outlets. <br /><br />The interior also gets some new trimmings, including aluminum steering wheel inserts, door moldings, and a darker finish floating center stack that features "a circular pattern that expands outwards in a dynamic way" - a pattern that is replicated in the striping of the two-toned seating surfaces. The pedals gain aluminum surfaces with grippy rubber inserts, and there's the requisite complement of R-Design badges as well.<br /><br />As shown in the images, Passion Red is an R-Design-specific available color, but there are six other colors to choose from.<br /><br />No word yet on model cost or availability, but we expect to see the the XC60 R-Design hitting dealers soon. For now, however, check out the gallery of high-res exterior photos below and the press release after the jump.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-r-design">Volvo XC60 R-Design</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/volvo-xc60-r-design-b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/volvo-xc60-r-design-a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/volvo-xc60-r-design-c_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/volvo-shows-off-sporty-new-xc60-r-design/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Volvo shows off sporty new XC60 R-Design</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/volvo-shows-off-sporty-new-xc60-r-design/">Volvo shows off sporty new XC60 R-Design</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 07 Jul 2009 10:27:00 EST. <p> </p>
<p>Following up on our story about the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/20/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design/">Volvo C30 R-Design</a> at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/New-York-Auto-Show/">New York Auto Show</a>, Volvo announced pricing today for its sporty hatchback tunerish trim level. MSRP will be $25,700, plus destination charges of $745. Doing simple math, you can put one of these hot turbocharged Swedes in your garage at a base price of $26,445. Of course, most of you will want to add available goodies such as the DVD-based navigation, bi-xenon headlights, or the Dynaudio premium sound system...and they'll cost you extra, which will balloon the price into what many consider too dear for a Swedish hatchback.</p>
<p>If a cosmetically-enhanced C30 is just your thing, however, we suggest you act fast. With a production run limited to just 400 examples, the exclusive R-Design will probably roll quickly out of showrooms starting in April. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design">New York 2008: Volvo C30 R Design</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/01_c50_volvo_lived_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/02_c50_volvo_lived_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/03_c50_volvo_lived_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/04_c50_volvo_lived_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/05_c50_volvo_lived_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-volvo-c30-r-design">Volvo C30 R-Design</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/volvo_c30_r_front_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/volvo_c30_r_rear_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/11773_1_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/11716_1_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/11718_1_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Volvo Cars of North America]</p><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/21/volvo-c30-r-design-priced-from-26-445/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Volvo C30 R-Design priced from $26,445</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/21/volvo-c30-r-design-priced-from-26-445/">Volvo C30 R-Design priced from $26,445</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 21 Mar 2008 13:36:00 EST. There's not much to complain about when you gaze upon any <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/17/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-volvo-c30-v2-0/">C30</a>, though the R-Design trimmings offer sprinkles on the cupcake. The cars will be exclusive, with oly 400 hitting showrooms in April for a base price of $25,700. The easiest way to spot the special Swedish hatches will be the metallic mirror housings, grille and grille crossbar. There's also a subtle R-Design badge affixed to the grille to identify the car as something just a little special. Special paint colors will also set off the R-Design cars, and the body kit-equipped car we photographed shined resplendently in Black Sapphire. Interior changes consist of blue-faced gauges like the actual high-performance S60R (RIP) and R-Design logos embossed into the leather inserts on the seats and metal accent bits around the cabin. The R-Design cars are more style than substance, but the exclusivity will be of value to buyers who like to have something special, and the T5 powertrain that all U.S.-bound C30s carry offers snappy performance already.<span style="font-style: italic;"></span><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design">New York 2008: Volvo C30 R Design</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/01_c50_volvo_lived_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/02_c50_volvo_lived_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/03_c50_volvo_lived_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/04_c50_volvo_lived_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/05_c50_volvo_lived_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/20/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New York 2008: Volvo C30 R-Design is R-some</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/20/new-york-2008-volvo-c30-r-design/">New York 2008: Volvo C30 R-Design is R-some</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 20 Mar 2008 13:59:00 EST. The package is comprised of only exterior and interior mods, so no additional go fast parts have been added to either the turbocharged 5-cylinder engine or suspension. What buyers will get is a few matte-silver finished pieces on the outside, including the side view mirrors, grille surround and Volvo's trademark grille "strap", as well as an R-Design badge on the grille. The C30 R-Design also gets the sport body kit, a tailgate spoiler, 18-inch Atreus wheels, larger diameter exhaust tips and your choice of Black Sapphire, Titanium Grey, Orinoco Blue or Passion Red paint.<br /><br />The interior is gussied up with a new finish for the center console, seats upholstered in off-black Flex-tech and creme-colored leather, blue-face gauges, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with aluminum inlays that bear the R-Design logo. <br /><br />Though it will be the top-of-the-line C30, the R-Design model is still a C30 and will therefore still have plenty of options to push its yet-to-be-determined price even higher. These include a 5-speed Geartronic transmission, DVD-based navigation system, even better Serapis alloy wheels and plenty else. What's more, only 400 R-Design models will be sold in the U.S., which is just about one for every Volvo dealer in the country. Considering that C-30 sales have cooled off considerably since Volvo moved 811 units of its new hatch last September (it's first full month on sale), it will probably take at least two months for the limited edition C30 R-Design to sell out, if not more. <br /><br />[Source: Volvo]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-volvo-c30-r-design">Volvo C30 R-Design</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/volvo_c30_r_front_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/volvo_c30_r_rear_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/11773_1_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/11716_1_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-volvo-c30-r-design/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/11718_1_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/04/volvo-unveils-c30-r-design-in-limited-quantities/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Volvo unveils C30 R-Design in limited quantities</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/04/volvo-unveils-c30-r-design-in-limited-quantities/">Volvo unveils C30 R-Design in limited quantities</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 04 Feb 2008 13:02:00 EST. Volvo connoisseurs can R-ified their 'ute with either 19- or 20-inch matte wheels, dual exhaust pipes, brushed sill moldings and the removal of the CUV's roof rails. Inside, a blue-lit instrument cluster joins some additional badging, a leather wrapped steering wheel and an aluminum center stack to boost the premium feel of the XC90. They're all nice touches, but we still maintain that anything sporting the letter "R" should involve upgrades to both the visual appearance of the vehicle and its performance.<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Volvo's press release is available after the jump.</span><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/11/volvo-xc90-sport-gets-sportier-with-the-r-treatment/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Volvo XC90 Sport gets sportier with the R-treatment</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/11/volvo-xc90-sport-gets-sportier-with-the-r-treatment/">Volvo XC90 Sport gets sportier with the R-treatment</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 11 Jan 2008 17:33:00 EST. The R-DESIGN option will be available on the C30, S40, and V50 models. The cars receive new grilles, the requisite badging, aero kits, matte silver accents and unique 5-spoke alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin is given a great-looking black-and-cream two-tone look with contrast stitching, blue gauges, an R-DESIGN wheel, revised trim for the center stack, sport pedals, custom floormats, and R-DESIGN badging and embroidery. The whole deal looks quite nice, really, and it's available on cars in Sport or SE Sport trim.<br /><br />[Source: Volvo]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-r-design-package">Volvo R-DESIGN Package</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-r-design-package/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/rdesign_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-r-design-package/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/rdesign_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-r-design-package/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/rdesign_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-r-design-package/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/rdesign_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-r-design-package/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/rdesign_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/30/volvo-r-design-accessories-unveiled/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Volvo R-DESIGN accessories unveiled</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/30/volvo-r-design-accessories-unveiled/">Volvo R-DESIGN accessories unveiled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 30 Jun 2007 15:41:00 EST.
