<p>The mouthwatering new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/08/detroit-2008-2009-cadillac-cts-v-revealed-with-550-hp/">Cadillac CTS-V</a> is an absolute celebrity in the American automotive industry. But while we got an eyeful of the supercharged super-sedan at its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/14/detroit-2008-cadillac-cts-v-unveiling-w-live-shots/">unveiling in Detroit</a>, as any Hollywood buff could tell you, it's one thing to see a celebrity on stage and quite another to meet one out in the real world. That's the experience some lucky fans got when the new CTS-V rolled by what appears to be a Corvette gathering in <strike>Florida</strike> Scottsdale, AZ. It would appear to be an appropriate assembly to show off the super-Caddy, powered as it is by a 550-hp derivative of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/15/detroit-2008-chevrolet-ls9-cutaway-display/">supercharged V8</a> in the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/15/detroit-2008-up-close-with-the-corvette-zr1/">Corvette ZR1</a>. </p>
<p>As you can see from the pictures in the gallery, this CTS-V was wearing glossy black V-shaped, split-5-spoke Cadillac rims, a beautiful metallic silver paint job, Michigan plates and, oddly, some camouflage over the rear bumper. Why GM felt the need to hide the rear end of a car already released is beyond us. <em>Thanks to pat_ernzen for the images.</em></p>
<p><strong>UPDATE:</strong><em> The photographer let us know the car was shot at Scottsdale Pavilions shopping center, a weekly Saturday night car show in Scottsdale, AZ where people just bring their cars out.<br /></em></p>

<p>Back in August <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/14/15-000-people-want-clarkson-as-prime-minister/">we brought you a report</a> that the celebrity host of BBC television's hit program <em>Top Gear </em>had a petition started in his name to promote his popular candidacy for British Prime Minister. Not that he's in any way declared his intension to run for public office, but the petition that was at 15,000 signatures at the end of the summer has now nearly doubled. </p>
<p>In light of the mounting public support, British tabloid the <em>Daily Mail </em>has put together a mock platform for Jezza, the world's most famous automotive journalist, should he decide to run. Some of the platform's highlights call for promoting global warming by incentivizing gas-guzzling automobiles, while banning diesels and hybrids; shutting down the public health &amp; safety department; arming constables in order to intimidate youth; abolishing speed cameras; promoting the glory of the British Empire; withdrawing from the EU and ending relations with the US; and reinstituting medieval punishment methods and public executions.</p>
<p>We say shoot for the moon and land among the stars: Clarkson for Transportation Minister.</p>

<p>Talk about airing your family's dirty laundry in public. Michael Schumacher has made a public statement to his kid brother Ralf, urging him to consider taking a sabbatical from F1.</p>
<p>The news comes hot on the heels of a less-than-spectacular test Ralf undertook for <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/22/spyker-f1-renamed-force-india-for-2008/">Force India, the team formerly known as Spyker</a>, which has two of the remaining seats open on the F1 grid for next season. Team owner Vijay Mallya and Schumi Jr. formed close links when the Indian tycoon's Kingfisher Airlines was sponsoring Ralf's Toyota, and the German driver was strongly linked to a potential drive for the new team. Unfortunately for Ralf, the test didn't go so well, prompting him to admit that the session could very well be his last drive in F1.</p>
<p>His considerably more successful brother, meanwhile, urged him to consider taking a sabbatical from Formula One, pointing out that, following his own retirement, it wasn't hard for him to come back for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/16/back-with-a-vengeance-schumacher-takes-all-in-comeback-f1-test/">recent test sessions for Ferrari</a>, in which he posted top lap times. Michael was quick to point out, however, that he himself had no intention of returning to the race seat.</p>

Not that the DMC 80 had anything to do with their now cult-classic sports car, it wouldn't have even been built by DMC. An example of how badge engineering and pimping platforms has been going on forever in the automotive business, DeLorean was essentially planning on affixing the DMC badge to buses from Germany's FFG. <br /><br />Like the DMC-12, success was not to be had. The Urban Mass Transit Administration's (now Federal Transit Administration) Transbus program was cancelled in 1981 after several years of floundering. DMC couldn't continue to devote resources to the effort, so they abandoned the licensing effort and scrapped a proposal for a bus assembly plant in New York, too. While DeLorean may be little more than a passing curiosity in automotive history, the fact that they got an automobile into production and on the market means that there are plenty of enthusiasts looking for any remaining vestiges of the company. The nature of launching an automotive enterprise also means that there's a ton of material to be strip-mined on eBay. If you find this little footnote in DeLorean's history as fascinating as we do, you can pony up bids and get your hands on a small trove of goodies like blueprints to the non-starter bus plant, a brochure for the DMC 80, and a random DeLorean certificate of achievement. There are other alternatives, however, for next generation public transportation that's both fast and environmentally friendly. The Superbus is a project for a futuristic public bus that runs on electricity (either batteries or fuel cells) and can reach speeds of 155 mph on dedicated "supertracks". It's the brainchild of designers and engineers at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and has received &euro;9 million in government funding and additional &euro;1 million from local bus company, Connexxion. <br /><br />The Superbus may look longer than a football field, but it's actually the same length and width as a normal city bus. It looks extra long because it's only 5.6 feet high, or about the height of an average SUV.
