Porsche is looking to help five lucky families celebrate the holiday season this year. The German automaker's lifestyle accessory division, Porsche Design, has come up with what has to be the world's costliest advent calendar. Instead of an array of tasty chocolates stashed in a cardboard calendar, the company has built an aluminum tower nearly six-feet tall. There are unique Porsche Design gifts designed to correspond with each day in the run up to Christmas, including niceties like a P'6910 mechanical stopwatch, a full P'7340 kitchen and, probably most impressively, an RFF28 "motor yacht" with a single 525-horsepower Mercury engine. Quite how they get the last two items to fit in the tower, we're not entirely sure.

The rest of the days are marked by goodies like Porsche Design cuff links, pens and sunglasses dipped in 18-karat yellow gold. The price for all of this finery? A cool one $1 million, but with only five of the calendars being created, we're guessing that they'll have a shot at selling them all. Some races come and go, but a handful remain inextricably intertwined with the very fabric of motor racing around the world. Races like the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The latter is well known worldwide as one of the most grueling tests of man and machine, and nobody has won it more times than Porsche.

The German marque's first victory came at the hands of Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood, who led a 1-2-3 finish for Porsche behind the wheel of their iconic 917 K. Forty years later, the company's merchandizing division, Porsche Design, has released a limited-edition timepiece to commemorate the feat.

The Porsche Design P'6612 Dashboard Le Mans 1970 Limited Edition, as you might have guessed from the name, features a face styled after the 917 K's dashboard instruments, with white indices on a black background and red hands and accents, offset by the number 23 that adorned the winning long-tail 917 K and which followed Herrmann throughout his career. The tachometer scale around the bezel can be used to calculate overall speed, etched into the brushed and polished titanium case and affixed with a perforated calfskin strap with red topstitching reminiscent of the 917's steering wheel.

Only 917 examples of the special edition chronograph will be offered, released just in time for the Le Mans Classic. Each comes accompanied by a scale model of the 917 K and a booklet signed by Herrmann and Attwood. Details in the press release after the jump with photos in the gallery below.

If you're planning a road trip, there are worse ways than going in a Porsche. But notwithstanding the extra space afforded by the Cayenne sport-ute or the new Panamera four-door, most Porsche don't have a wealth of luggage space. Fortunately, Porsche Design has released a full line of luggage and travel accessories made especially for its sister-company's line-up.

Part of the Porsche Design Driver's Selection, the new Travel Collection offers choices of Ultralight polycarbonate hard-shell luggage, AluFrame wheeled pieces and leather Carfit baggage. They're all made to fit in the trunks of the 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne or Panamera, and many of the hard-shell pieces can even be ordered to match standard Porsche exterior paint colors. To cap it off, there's extra accessories like coordinating wallets, jackets designed for the traveler and the requisite sunglasses for the road. Porsche Design makes a splash with P'6780 Diver

You'd expect a studio like Porsche Design to come out with the occasional driver's watch. But a diving watch is quite a different story. In fact, this is only the second time the studio has made one. The first was over 25 years ago, with the Ocean 2000, designed by company founder Prof. F.A. Porsche in 1983. The P'6780 is Porsche Design's innovative and rugged follow-up.

Capable of reaching depths up to 1,000 meters (3,280 feet), P'6780's party trick is actually quite functional: the stainless steel case that houses the movement hinges forward out of its titanium bracket (which in turn attaches to the rubber wrist strap), thereby insulating the case from shock and keeping the crown from being accidentally re-set.

Porsche Design takes its P'9522 to the matte with new Black Edition

You didn't think Porsche would let Mercedes-Benz AMG (or much less, Dacia) monopolize the use of the color black, now did you? Of course not. So while everyone else is going for blinged-out shiny this and sparkling that, Porsche Design has re-released its cutting-edge P'9522 mobile phone all in black.

The feature set is the same as the existing, award-winning P'9522 released last year, which means it's made of solid aluminum and packs fingerprint authentication, WiFi and GPS, to short-list just a few of its features. But instead of the shiny stuff, the special edition - mimicking the original Porsche Design Chronograph I and the instruments on competition-spec 911s - is decked out in the matte stuff, all without the need for a vinyl wrap and giving RIM a run for its nomenclature money.

It may be getting colder across the country, but in Porscheland, things are heating up. The German automaker just took the wraps off its ultimate tribute to sun and fun, the new Boxster Spyder, in Los Angeles, and its merchandising counterpart is gearing up for sunshine with its new collection of gear for the spring and summer.

The latest sport collection has items for the driver, runner, golfer, swimmer, sailor and tennis player, all made in collaboration with sportswear giant Adidas. Highlights include weatherproof jackets, shock-absorbing sneakers, and even the odd Bermuda or two. You can check it all out in the press release after the jump and in the high-res image gallery below. The collection is available from Porsche Design stores worldwide, and the best part is you don't have to own a Porsche to buy them (you little poseur, you!).

Times are tough for the Porsche family. Amidst the merger with Volkswagen, their company just suffered a $6.6 billion loss. But we didn't think things were this bad for the descendants of Ferdinand Porsche until Bonhams announced they would be liquidating that family's watch collection to the highest bidder.

Okay, we're exaggerating just a bit. The Porsche family stands to make a lot of money out of the Volkswagen merger, and the collection is being auctioned off for charity. And while we have no idea what charity that is, we have to assume it's not the Porsche family themselves.

As it turns out, the family's interests extend beyond the automobile. Not only does their Porsche Design Group have its own range of watches, but some fourteen years ago they bought Eterna, one of the largest independent watchmakers in Switzerland. Eterna fabricates Porsche Design watches as well as their own brand, and several of the rarest examples will be included along with others among the 49 watches crossing the auction block on December 2 in London.

Among those pieces Bonhams is highlight are included a rare 18kt gold Porsche Design prototype and an Eterna presented to family scion Ferdinand Oliver Porsche on his 40th birthday, along with rare timepieces from Rolex and Omega as well as Panerai (which makes watches for arch-rival Ferrari), Jaeger LeCoultre (which partners with Aston Martin) and Breitling (in league with Bentley). While the Porsche 911 stands as one of the most ubiquitous and storied sports cars of all time, another Porsche design was made popular by one particular individual.

Throughout the Eighties, Yoko Ono wore the original Porsche Design shades so often they became known as the Yoko Ono sunglasses. She wore them at press conferences, for photo shoots (including the cover of Rolling Stone magazine) and on the covers of her albums. Now the German carmaker's Austrian product design studio has brought the design back back as the P'8479.

The shield-style visor is supported by a Beta-Titanium frame secured by visible screws for an iconic retro look that may not be our cup of tea exactly, but we just hope their presence doesn't break up the VW merger like Yoko broke up The Beatles.

We've all seen people stepping out of exquisite sports cars dressed like total slobs, and the whole image thing just goes up in a cloud of smoke. Porsche Design seems to have made it its mission to complete the package, and to that end has released two new product lines.

Among the sportswear, luggage, appliances, power tools, mega yachts and everything else the German automaker's Austrian merchandising studio has come up with recently, Porsche Design released its signature fragrance line - called "The Essence" - about a year and a half ago, and has now followed up with a new take its calling "The Essence Intense." Not quite bottling that "new car smell," Porsche Design says Intense packs notes of myrtle, juniper and mandarin into a sleek bottle of frosted black glass and satin black brushed aluminum that goes a long way towards explaining the conspicuously strange shape of the new Panamera.

Of more interest to the enthusiast, however, might be Porsche Design's latest line of driving shoes. Positioned a little higher than the sneaks designed for Adidas, the latest collection of Porsche footwear is formal enough to wear to the office, and is designed for heel-and-toe work: The right sole is grooved for quick transition from gas to brake, while the left sole is designed to grip the clutch pedal.

Sure, cars like the Cayenne and even the Panamera are enormous in comparison to the 911. But there's still only so big Porsche can go. That is, on land at least. Not one to be told to stick to its core business, Porsche's design arm has teamed up with a Singapore shipyard to design a state-of-the-art catamaran megayacht.

We first reported on the RFF135 by Porsche Design and Royal Falcon Fleet back when the idea was announced, but now that the project has started to materialize, the two companies have begun releasing details and images. Worlds apart from the speedboat which Porsche Design penned for Fearless, the RFF135 is a massive twin-hull design measuring 135 feet in length (hence the name) with a 41-foot beam. That's enough space to accommodate 10 guests and 10 crew members below decks in 472 square meters of area, with another 208 square meters of deck space up top.

That's almost unfathomably large, and to propel the vessel up 35 knots (about 40 mph), the catamaran will be equipped with twin V16 turbodiesel engines from German manufacturer MTU, each producing a massive 4,600 horsepower. Don't ask about miles per gallon - this puppy will drink down 750 liters of diesel every hour, but at least you're bound to look damned good doing it, right? If you're planning a trip to Germany, Stuttgart should be included in your itinerary. The city is home to both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, but if factory tours aren't enough to make it worth your while, Porsche recently inaugurated a new €100 million museum displaying a collection that includes 80 of the company's most historic creations on 1,000 square meters of floor space housed in a dazzling new building. We recently had a chance to check it out in person, and we'd highly recommend any gearhead worth his or her pistons to do the same. And when you do, you'll probably want to bring some extra cash, because as you'd expect, the gift shop is packed with desirable items, the latest of which Porsche has just revealed.

The new collection at the Porsche Museum shop includes sportswear - including the 356 Workshop Shirt for men and the retro "I too prefer Porsche" tee for the ladies - as well as books and DVDs outlining the company's history along with the usual suspects from metal signs and posters to keychains and exclusive 1:18 scale models. While the rest of us are enjoying the summer, those working in the fashion industry at any level are already gearing up for the winter wonderland around the corner. So Porsche Design - the lucrative merchandising division - has released its latest Sport collection for the Fall and Winter seasons.

Made in collaboration with sportswear giant Adidas, the latest Porsche Design collection includes lines for sailing, golf, tennis, running and skiing, but of course, we cut straight to the good stuff: the driving gear, including a fresh assortment of driving shoes, gloves, scarves, sweatshirts, jackets and more. Naturally, they're all exquisitely designed, meticulously crafted and eager to keep you warm on a drive through the Alps. Say what you will about the styling of the Porsche Panamera, the company's merchandising division cranks out some seriously lust-worthy designs. Some of them have nothing to do with their automotive namesake, but here's an instance of Porsche Design working in concert with the automobile division to give drivers something a little more handy than a baseball cap or polo shirt. Okay, so the Panamera Collection includes plenty of those too, along with watches, coats and kids clothing, but it also includes a set of intriguing fitted luggage for the four-door sports car from Zuffenhausen.

Instead of the usual (and usually exquisitely crafted) soft leather bags, Porsche has gone with a set of aluminum and polycarbonate hard-shell suitcases of various sizes and shapes. They're even available in the same colors as the Panamera, making this set of fitted luggage especially fitting. Porsche owners have long reveled in their ability to smoke the competition on track and street, but now Porschephiles can also leave their marque's mark on the backside of burgers, hotdogs and ribeyes. Grill marks, of course.

Barbeques Galore and Porsche Design Studio have burned the midnight oil for two years while working on the the new X-Series Grill. Under its sleek, German-styled exterior lies some fairly hot grilling technology. Instead of the standard gas burners found in most grills, the X-Series uses four infrared burners that can crank out 52,000 BTUs using 50% less fuel with 80% fewer flare-ups. By our very rough shadetree estimates, that should be good for a zero to steak time of about 10 minutes. Or so.

With a starting sticker price of $5,999 Porsche Design's first grill comes with a motorized rotisserie, an LCD temp display with remote probe, and an insulated double-walled hood. Step up to the X-Series Island (above) for $8,499 for a stainless steel finish and concealed cupboards and gas cylinder storage.

All models are covered under a lifetime warranty for service, parts and repair. Also included is the right to brag to your numbers that you have a Porsche in your backyard.

When they're not styling phones, cologne, toasters, special-edition automobiles and such, Porsche Design keeps itself busy with sportswear for the driver and enthusiast. Previous collections from the company's Driver's Selection have taken all sorts of themes: Martinis, collaborations with Adidas, even the color white. But this spring the merchandizing division takes to the track with the Motorsport Collection.

The men's lineup includes polo shirts, board shorts, fleeces, t-shirts and more, including a limited-edition Gore-Tex jacket of which only a highly symbolic 911 examples will be made. The Motorsport Collection also includes items for women and children, plus coordinating accessories, all done up in matching white and gray with red trim, complete with sponsor logos in case your own endorsement deal hasn't come in yet. Limited-edition Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3 to hit the streets

Like the Porsche Cayman S Design Edition 1 and Boxster S Design Edition 2 before it, the Cayenne GTS Design Edition 3 shows off what German automaker's industrial design shop can do. The Cayenne version continues the trend set by the Cayman S and Boxster S with special dark striping on the doors and hood that subtly contrasts with the unique Lava Grey Metallic paint color. The 21-inch SportPlus wheels are also cast in the same dark color and feature this spokes through which the GTS' braking hardware can be viewed. A roof spoiler, tinted glass and special "Porsche Design Edition 3" badging round out the exterior accouterments. The interior is finished with lots of carbon fiber trim, black leather and contrasting red stitching, while more "Porsche Design Edition 3" branding can be found on the tach face, door sill and a placard in the glove box along with the vehicle's serial number.

While there are no real performance improvements to this limited edition version of the Cayenne GTS, which is already a capable performance SUV, you do get a sports exhaust and slightly lowered suspension. What may sway buyers more are the Porsche Design accessories that come standard, including a chronograph watch and four-piece luggage set. Only 1,000 examples of the Porsche Cayenne GTS Design Edition 3 will be made, each starting at €79,100 in Europe where they'll be exclusively sold and $89,900 in the U.S. where only 100 will be sold.

Unlike Porsche Design's previous phone, the slick P'9521 clamshell, the P'9522 is designed around a straightforward "candy-bar" form factor, milled from a solid block of aluminum with a scratch-resistant touchscreen glass display. Avoiding getting your fingerprints all over this slick piece of tech would be an exercise in futility, so Porsche Design has incorporated a fingerprint reader to keep unwelcome users out. The P'9522 also features a five-megapixel camera with flash, GPS module, stereo MP3 player, WiFi and quad-band antennas for use around the world (except Japan and Korea). At €600 (approx. $774), it ain't cheap, but it's about half the price of the P'9521 flip-phone.

To celebrate the launch of the new phone, Porsche Design has commissioned nine photographers from around the world to shoot the P'9522 (though presumably not with the phone's built-in camera). The photos will appear in a travel exhibition touring the world, but you can see them all in the gallery below along with the more straightforward shots of the phone from every angle, with full details in the press release after the jump.

Nike outlet puts the "RS" in "sneakers"

Remember the 80's? Frankly, we'd rather not, what with all the neon colors and fifth-grader graphics. But some people just won't leave it alone. Like sneaker freaks, who need to have those Nike high-tops they had (or didn't) as a child. Or Porsche, with their obscenely bright-colored 911 GT3 RS. The two may seem at diametrically opposite ends of the spectrum, but it was only a matter of time before someone brought them together.

That someone is Purchaze, a German retro clothing company. Upon opening its newest location in Holland, a nearby Porsche dealership hooked them up with a Cayman S for promotional purposes. (We would have figured some neon-colored slant-nose would have served better, but what do we know.) As a thanks for the loan, Purchaze whipped up the series of sneakers you see above. Inspired, supposedly, by the GT3, each pair of kicks features the Porsche badge on the tongue and are colored in the shades of the GT3 palette: one pair in orange, one in green, another in black and a fourth in silver. The sneakers were presented to the team at the Porsche dealership, who are ~~wishing they had irregularly-sized feet~~ to use wear them in the pits at an upcoming race. If you want to get your hands on a pair of these, ~~you may have less taste than boiled chicken~~ you can't, because they were made exclusively for the dealership, but Adidas offers a line of Porsche Design shoes that may not, you know, be a cause of embarrassment when worn in public.

Dashing through the Snow on a one Porsche open sleigh

If you're scurrying around town in a new Porsche, you won't have your kids barreling down the hill on any old Toys R Us plastic sled, now are you? That's why the automaker's merchandising division, Porsche Design, has come out with this Sportster children's sled, just in time for the holidays. It's made of aluminum and can support up to 220 lbs, so it's good for ~~fat kids~~ Dad, too. It'll even fold down if you're heading to the slopes in a Carrera 4 instead of a Cayenne. Unfortunately, getting anything with the Porsche Design name on it doesn't come cheap, and this one sells for $490.

Supercars to Megayachts: Porsche Design styles 135-ft catamaran

In case you hadn't had quite enough of German automakers producing cars themed after yachts - like the Volkswagen Caddy Topos Sail and Audi Q7 Coastline - here comes one offshoot preparing to actually design a line of mega-yachts.

The Porsche Design boats are being penned for Singaporean shipyard's Royal Falcon Fleet, and will start off with RFF135, a 135-foot catamaran (that means two hulls for all you land-lubers). Australian firm Incat Crowther and Swedish outfit Kockums are also involved in the project, which is slated to include a variety of mega-yachts for the uber-wealthy with either two hulls or one. Yachts of this size typically leave the engine room up to the buyer's specifications, along with most everything else, but don't expect to find a bank of air-cooled flat-sixes below decks. If you're wondering how an automotive merchandise design firm could translate their competence to the entirely separate field of naval architecture, just remember that, following the Fearless speedboat series, this won't be the first time Porsche Design has tangled its toes in the water.
