<br />
According to <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/porsche">Porsche</a> enthusiast site <a href="http://www.planet-9.com/news-items/47086-cayman-club-sport-gets-green-light.html">Planet-9.com</a>, a hardcore version of the <a href="http://autoblog.com/porsche/cayman">Cayman</a>, dubbed CS or Clubsport, will be shown at this year's <a href="http://autoblog.com/category/la+auto+show">Los Angeles Auto Show</a> in December. This isn't the first time we've heard rumblings of a lighter, more powerful Cayman, but now that Porsche has successfully launched the <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/boxster+spyder">Boxster Spyder</a>, it's only fitting that the same sort of package be offered on its harder-core hardtop sister.<br />
<br />
Expect the Clubsport to produce around 333 horsepower from its 3.4-liter flat-six, an increase of 13 hp over the Cayman S. From there, lightweight 19-inch wheels will be standard, as will fabric door pulls, aluminum body components and a slightly revised front fascia that we've seen on the Boxster Spyder. Obviously, the real goal with a Clubsport model is lightness, and Planet-9 reports that the CS should be about 162 to 184 pounds lighter than the stock Cayman S.<br />
<br />
If the LA Auto Show reveal stands true, the Cayman CS should be hitting the road sometime in 2011 as a 2012 model, priced from around $66,300. Fingers crossed, everyone.<br />

<br />
If you salivated at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2011-porsche-boxster-spyder/">Porsche Boxster Spyder</a> but longed for something with a fixed roof, the rumor mill has something tantalizing in store for you. According to reports, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/porsche/">Porsche</a> is preparing to give a similar treatment to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/cayman">Cayman</a>.<br />
<br />
Tentatively called the Cayman Clubsport, the hardcore coupe is tipped to get a 20-30 horsepower boost over the 300 hp offered from the 3.4-liter flat-six in the existing Cayman S. Couple that with a weight reduction scheme and similar chassis mods as those carried out on the Spyder and you're looking at a mid-engined Porsche with a 0-60 time in the high fours. <br />
<br />
A host of visual enhancements are likely to set it apart from the standard model. But at this point we're looking largely at speculation - the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/09/enter-the-rumormill-porsche-cayman-club-sport-spied/">second time</a> such rumors have rounded the mill - so don't go canceling your 911 GT3 order just yet.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>Porsche Boxster and Cayman Packages (Euro) - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
Our friends across the pond have four new individualization packages to choose from when they start ticking the option boxes for their new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/boxster">Boxster</a> or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/cayman">Cayman</a>, and while <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/porsche/">Porsche</a> isn't offering any additional performance upgrades, the kit adds a bit more flavor to Stuttgart's entry-level convertible and coupe.<br />
<br />
The appearance elements include a range of interior and exterior color combinations, new 19-inch, blacked-out wheels and matching tailpipes, mirrors, air vents and, on the Boxster, roll bars. A new front lip and rear spoiler are also included in the Design Package.<br />
<br />
The optional Comfort Package comes complete with bi-xenon headlamps, dynamic cornering lights, rain-sensing wipers and climate control, while the droptops benefits from a redesigned wind deflector.<br />
<br />
The Infotainment Pack brings Porsche's Communication Management system, and the Sound Package includes either a 185-watt, seven-speaker setup on the Boxster or a 235-watt, nine-speaker system on the Cayman. Pricing and availability details are available in the translated press release after the jump, and you can check out all new hues and body elements in the gallery below.<br />

<br />
Go to any major city worldwide and you're likely to see a <a href="http://autoblog.com/porsche/911">Porsche 911</a> roll by. It's far more common than seeing one making the cornstalks blur in the middle of farm country, anyway. Porsche CEO Michael Macht disagrees that his sports cars frequent metro areas. "They're not driven in the city," Macht told the UK's <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle.aspx?AR=246247"><em>Autocar</em></a> when discussing hybrid 987s and 997s. Of course, city driving is where hybrid powertrains rack up fuel economy credits, which Macht acknowledges before dismissing by saying, "It's technically possible but it's not part of the plan."<br />
<br />
Despite the verbot on hybrid 911s, Boxsters and Caymans, technology will be thrown at the sports cars to improve efficiency. "We want brake regeneration and stop-start for our sports cars, but not hybrid," explains Macht. Just because there's no hybrids other than the Cayenne doesn't mean Porsche isn't playing with electrons. "There are some efforts to make a pure electric supercar," Macht notes, though such a vehicle would have to be capable of running as hard for as long as the petro-fueled Porsche cars - no 30-mile ranges here.<br />

<br />
When <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/porsche/">Porsche</a> introduced the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/cayman">Cayman</a> in 2006, one thing was abundantly clear: Porsche had muzzled its midship coupe to prevent cannibalizing <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/911">911</a> sales. Despite a more favorable weight distribution and an unflappable chassis, the Cayman lacked the power to exploit its excellent underpinnings, even in "S" guise. So like its Boxster sibling, the Cayman was destined to play second fiddle to Porsche's iconic rear-engine flagship. From a business perspective, Porsche's decision made sense. For enthusiasts, it was yet another bitter pill from Zuffenhausen. <br />
<br />
When the Cayman underwent a refresh, there was always hope that a turbocharged variant would be included in the line-up. Predictably, that never happened. So the Cayman continued to stand on the lower/middle rung of the Porsche ladder, offering less power and a lower price than the 911. The Cayman could dance. It just needed an extra bit of oomph.<br />
<br />
That's where Mike Levitas comes in. Mike is the brains behind TPCRacing of Jessup, MD. Born of a family of automotive tinkerers, Mike spent most of his formative years learning about turbos and turning that knowledge to race cars - fast, reliable race cars that won championships. Like most other Porsche enthusiasts, Mike thought the Cayman could use more power. Turbocharged power. But unlike most of the marque's devotees, Mike made it happen.<br />

<br /> It's bad enough when natural disasters lay waste to homes and coastline, but we're not sure we can bear the sight of this sort of car-carnage. Like this image, for example, of a Porsche Cayman buried in the sand. But we guess this was bound to happen to a car that shares its name with a Caribbean archipelago (it was actually named after a small species of crocodile).<br /> <br /> The shot was taken by <em>Asylum</em> blogger Elizabeth Brady on Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, where the effects of "Nor'Ida" - a particularly strong Nor'Easter conspiring with the remnants of Tropical System Ida - were apparently felt particularly hard. <br /> <br /> Natural disaster or no natural disaster, we're sure someone will find a way of blaming this on a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/17/bugatti-bird-gate-update-2-new-evidence-of-mystery-pelican-avo/">low-flying pelican</a> - or perhaps <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/16/video-montezemolo-beaches-ferrari-california-at-own-world-final/">Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo</a>.<br /> <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-cayman-s">2010 Porsche Cayman S</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-cayman-s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/09porschecaymans_hi015_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-cayman-s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/09porschecaymans_hi016_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-cayman-s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/09porschecaymans_hi017_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-cayman-s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/09porschecaymans_hi012_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-cayman-s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/09porschecaymans_hi014_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.asylum.com/2009/11/16/norida-storm-damage-pictures-reveal-the-best-seashell-ever/">Asylum</a> | Image: Elizabeth Brady]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/18/cayman-sand-norida-claims-its-latest-victim/">Cayman Sand: Nor'Ida claims its latest victim</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 18 Nov 2009 17:56:00 EST. It's understandable, as the company has spent more than half a century building its performance-oriented automotive brand around design patents, logos, and the company's familiar vehicle nomenclature. Crocs, Inc., on the other hand, is a shoe manufacturer credited with introducing the world to low-cost injection-molded foam footwear. Crocs does not build cars... um, thankfully.<br />
<br />
What Crocs did do was name its popular sandal the "Cayman" (pictured at right). Of course, this set off all the alarms at Porsche as that name is already trademark registered by the automaker for its two-seat sports coupe. What followed next was expected... in mid-May, Crocs received a letter from Porsche notifying them of the alleged trademark infringement. At the end of July, Porsche filed a notice of injunction in German courts against the European use of the Cayman name by Crocs. <br />
<br />
While we realize that few of our readers would ever confuse a pair of Crocs' Cayman with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/cayman">Porsche Cayman</a>, one has to wonder if Porsche is taking this a bit too far. Rumor has it that the Cayman Islands in the western Caribbean are monitoring the situation and already working on their own legal defense... <em>Hat tip to Freddy for the lead!</em><br />

<br />
After a great deal of international haggling, Magna ended up winning the competition for Opel. One of the many questions to be answered now is: How will the deal affect Magna's engineering and assembly business? Even as companies like VW and BMW have said they would be looking closely at working with Magna if it owned Opel, Magna head Frank Stronach must have been convinced he could keep his clients happy.<br />
<br />
That hasn't happened yet, and now Porsche is saying it might take future production away from Magna. The Stuttgart firm contracted Magna to build the next Boxster and Cayman in 2013 in Austria, but now it's worried that its costs and engineering might end up in the wrong hands if left with Magna.<br />
<br />
Porsche's alternatives would be to keep Boxster production in-house at Zuffenhausen, where the cars are currently made, or to contract with Karmann, which just <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/report-karmann-saved-by-vws-multi-million-euro-order-for-elect/">earned a chunk of VW's electric car business</a>. The alternatives for Magna, though, aren't so clear - with BMW and VW also casting wary eyes, does it continue with the carmaker adventure at the risk of losing the business that got it to the top in the first place?<br />

<br /> Over the years, our favorite magazines have had some spectacular comparison tests, with scores of test data and page after page of subjective text. <em>Motor Trend</em> has practically made a living with comparisons, and its newest feature pits 10 hot rides against one another to see which is the best driver's car. MT used tons of data, added subjective feedback from staff members and included track time at Laguna Seca with pro driver Randy Pobst.<br /> <br /> If you receive <em>Motor Trend</em> at home or you check in over at its website, you've probably <a href="http://www.motortrend.com/features/performance/112_0910_2009_best_drivers_car/index.html">read the extensive article</a>, but the magazine also produced a 14 minute video hosted by Editor at Large Arthur St. Antoine. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/17/video-mt-best-drivers-car-competition-offers-a-few-surprises/">Hit the jump</a> to watch the video for yourself. It's chock full of beautiful footage, 638 horsepower supercars drifting around and tire-ripping burnouts. How much more can you ask for?<br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F7nQ6GGdms">YouTube</a> via <a href="http://www.motortrend.com/features/performance/112_0910_2009_best_drivers_car/index.html">Motor Trend</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/17/video-mt-best-drivers-car-competition-offers-a-few-surprises/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: <i>Motor Trend's</i> Best Driver's Car Competition offers a few surprises</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/17/video-mt-best-drivers-car-competition-offers-a-few-surprises/">VIDEO: <i>Motor Trend's</i> Best Driver's Car Competition offers a few surprises</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 17 Sep 2009 12:30:00 EST. <br /> For each of its model lines, Porsche offers a wide variety of model variants and plenty of options straight from the factory. But that's only the starting point, with a whole slew of aftermarket tuners offering a range of customization options for owners of Stuttgart's finest. TechArt has long remained at the forefront, and has now launched a new set of modification kits for the latest Boxster and Cayman.<br /> <br /> Although TechArt hasn't touched the engine this time around, the aftermarket kits offer a host of visual, aerodynamic and chassis modifications for the entry-level models. The Aerokit I includes a new front spoiler, side sills, rear spoiler and diffuser, with round exhaust tips available in different finishes. The Aerokit II, meanwhile, upgrades with an Audi-style daytime running lamp (DRL) kit, while the TechArt's Vario suspension drops the ride height by 30 mm, mounted to 19- and 20-inch wheels. There are also a whole mess of extra bits to spruce up the interior, all of which you can read about in detail in the press release after the jump and view in the high-res image gallery below.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-porsche-cayman-and-boxster">TechArt Porsche Cayman and Boxster</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-porsche-cayman-and-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/3851573977_5b7338f38b_o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="3851573977_5b7338f38b_o" title="3851573977_5b7338f38b_o" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-porsche-cayman-and-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/2010_techart_gt_roadster_press_009_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010_techart_gt_roadster_press_009" title="2010_techart_gt_roadster_press_009" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-porsche-cayman-and-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/3851573601_f88f65d797_o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="3851573601_f88f65d797_o" title="3851573601_f88f65d797_o" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-porsche-cayman-and-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/3852368222_6e7dfe33b3_o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="3852368222_6e7dfe33b3_o" title="3852368222_6e7dfe33b3_o" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-porsche-cayman-and-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/3851574435_176bb6c00c_o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="3851574435_176bb6c00c_o" title="3851574435_176bb6c00c_o" /></a></div><br /> [Source: TechArt]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/24/techart-offers-mods-for-porsche-boxster-and-cayman/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TechArt offers visual upgrades for Porsche Boxster and Cayman</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/24/techart-offers-mods-for-porsche-boxster-and-cayman/">TechArt offers visual upgrades for Porsche Boxster and Cayman</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 24 Aug 2009 17:28:00 EST. <br />
Punked, we've been punked! And that's OK. In the high powered, fast paced <strike>deeply sexy</strike> world of car blogging, mistakes are going to be made. And every once in a while a group of mayhem minded jokers can easily gum up the gears of the machine by providing an elaborate prank as grist for mill. Such is the case with a certain <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/spy-video-porsche-cayman-shooting-brake-caught-on-camera-phone/">Porsche Cayman Shooting Brake</a>, cooked up by the former editor of <a href="http://www.bbcamerica.com/shows/topgear/index.jsp">TopGear.com</a>, Jared Holstein as a parting gift.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/08/13/porsche-shooting-brake-is-a-fake/">New York Times</a> is reporting that while Holstein thought up the viral plan, the execution was left up to summer interns. One intern, a digital design student named Matt DuVall, carried out the design using Maya, a high powered 3d rendering program used to make movies like <em>Ice Age</em>. Under Holstein's direction, DuVull used as many Porsche design themes as possible, including lots of cues from the Panamera, Porsche development wheels, a Porsche mule lookalike bumper and even the same license plate used on Porsche mules. Then they rendered the "car" in HD, added it to a clip of an alley in Brooklyn, degraded it's quality and added Italian music to make it seem as if some kids captured the shooting brake mule on their phone somewhere in Europe. So, so sneaky. If you haven't seen it yet, we've included the original video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/13/shooting-fake-porsche-cayman-shooting-brake-a-i-top-gear-i-h/">after the jump</a>.<br />
<br />
Then came our part. Another intern, John Masters (who is getting his masters in media studies) began sending links to car sites. Sites like Autoblog! Masters then created what looked like a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/more-evidence-of-porsche-cayman-shooting-brake/">screen shot </a>from the highly anticipated (and blogged about) <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/12/forza-motorsport-3-celebrates-past-and-present-of-jdm-in-new-scr/">Forza Motorsport 3</a> and dropped it into a Czech Forza Forum and wrote in Czech to "add a layer of deception and plausibility." Sneaky, sneaky. We of course, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/spy-video-porsche-cayman-shooting-brake-caught-on-camera-phone/">ate it up</a>. More than <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/07/spy-shot-porsche-cayman-shooting-brake-revealed/">once</a>. In our defense, we did punctuate every headline with a question mark. Still, joke's on us, and the rest of the automotive press. They totally got us.<br />
<br />
Why'd they do it? Says Holstein, "Eh, there wasn't any cruel intention... we manifested an automotive Liger because... it was fun to do. That said, if Porsche actually built it, I'd start stripping at bachelorette parties (again) to afford one." He's right, a Cayman Shooting Brake would be incredibly sweet. One more thing. If you pause the video at the 9 second mark, you can see part of a little white Stig helmet poking out from the rear hatch. We're so spitting in Jared's food next auto show. OG video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/13/shooting-fake-porsche-cayman-shooting-brake-a-i-top-gear-i-h/">after the jump</a>.<br />

Remember that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/spy-video-porsche-cayman-shooting-brake-caught-on-camera-phone/">Cayman shooting brake/breadvan mule</a> recently spotted on the streets of Europe and supposed by many commenters to be a fake? It's been captured in Forza Motorsport 3. <br /><br />While this doesn't mean we'll be seeing such a conveyance on the roads any time soon, or that it is in fact a Porsche product and not a tuner special, gamemakers Turn 10 would need to have spoken to Porsche (or whomever is responsible) about including a car that no one even know about a few weeks ago. If this is all real then, after the unlikely Panamera, could the next item on Porsche's list really be a mid-engined mini wagon? <em>Hat tip to Mike.</em><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.forzacentral.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=20112">Forza Central</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/more-evidence-of-porsche-cayman-shooting-brake/">More evidence of Porsche Cayman Shooting Brake?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 13 Jul 2009 18:00:00 EST. In this instance, one such reader-turned-paparazzo (apparently in Italy, no less) caught on video what appears to be some sort of Porsche Cayman Shooting Brake test mule.<br /><br />Looking something like the product of a one-night-stand between said Porsche and either a Volvo C30 or an original BMW Z3-based M Coupe, the supposed mule is wearing all black, but apart from that, it appears to be undisguised. Of course, this could be a one-off made by someone with no official connection to Porsche (Rinspeed, anyone?), but then again, it could be a harbinger of a model to come. What do you make of it? Follow <a href="http://www.topgear.com/us/blog/more/cayman-mule/">the link</a> to view the spy video and voice your opinion in our comments section below. <em>Thanks for the tip, Bill!<br /></em><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.topgear.com/us/blog/more/cayman-mule/">Top Gear</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/spy-video-porsche-cayman-shooting-brake-caught-on-camera-phone/">Spy Video: Porsche Cayman Shooting Brake caught on camera phone?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 08 Jul 2009 18:58:00 EST. <span><span><span><strong><br /></strong>The all-new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/19/la-2008-porsche-to-debut-freshened-boxster-and-cayman/">2009 Porsche Cayman and Boxster</a> are coming Stateside in March, with new technology, more power, and a price hike over the outgoing model. The 2009 Boxster will start at $46,600, and the right to own the more powerful Boxster S will run you $10,100 more at $56,700. The Cayman will start at $50,300, and adding an S will bring you up to $60,200. Porsche's 2009 pricing represents a 1.8% increase when compared to the outgoing 2008 models, but you get quite a bit more Porsche for the New Year.<br /><strong><br /></strong>Thanks to Porsche's new Direct Fuel Injection tech, both the Boxster and Cayman models will receive a significant power boost. The base 2.9-liter flat-six will increase power for the Boxster and Cayman to 255 and 265 ponies. The S-level 3.4-liter engine will now crank out 310 hp in the convertible and 320 hp for its fixed roof sibling. Also available is Porsche's new seven-speed PDK double-clutch transmission, which offers manual paddle shifting without the labor of a clutch. The new powertrains will give Porsche owners some extra punch, while also improving fuel economy -- combined estimates come in at over 25 mpg.<br /><br />Porsche is also cranking up the price of the iconic 911 and the Cayenne will also see a bump in price for 2009. Beginning in February, both models will receive a 1% price hike, with the average sticker jumping by about $900.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-boxster">2010 Porsche Boxster</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/00_boxster09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/01_boxster09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/02_boxster09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/03_boxster09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/04_boxster09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman">2010 Porsche Cayman</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/00_cayman09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/01_cayman09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/02_cayman09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/03_cayman09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/04_cayman09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong><br /></strong></span></span><span><span><span></span></span></span></span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/15/09-boxster-cayman-pricing-announced/">'09 Boxster/Cayman pricing announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 15 Jan 2009 08:58:00 EST. <p> </p>
<p>Even as the industry swirls in turmoil, Porsche continues to offer hope to enthusiasts as they relentlessly increase performance without sacrificing efficiency. For 2009, Porsche has given the Boxster and Cayman a mild facelift, along with updating the interior and accessories. More importantly, and following in the footsteps of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/20/first-drive-2009-porsche-911-carrera-s-with-pdk/">911 Carrera PDK</a>, all 2009 Cayman and Boxster models are also offered with the Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe transmission (aka PDK). Mated to the new transmission are two significantly reworked engines featuring direct injection. The result is more power, and improved fuel economy (we shouldn't fail to mention that the PDK accelerates faster than the six-speed manual). Porsche is offering two engines in 2009. The standard engine is a 2.9-liter flat-six rated at 255 hp. The "S" models are fitted with a more powerful 3.4-liter sending 310 hp to the gearbox. Like the Carrera, go-fast options on the sporty mid-engine two-seaters include active suspension (PASM) and ceramic brakes (PCCB). Look for both to arrive in showrooms in early 2009.</p>

<br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-boxster/1169464/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/01_boxster09_opt.jpg" alt="" /></a>Porsche is going to unveil its newly freshened Boxster and Cayman models at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/LA-Auto-Show/">LA Auto Show</a> today. As you can see in the galleries below, their noses and tails have been redone with a touch of Carrera GT, but each car now has a unique look. More importantly, the engines and transmissions have been updated as well, with the 2.9L and 3.4L powerplants getting Porsche's direct fuel injection for a 10-25 hp bump depending on the model. Along with the extra oomph, owners will get better mileage with fuel economy rising 11-16 percent. Part of that boosted mileage comes from the direct-injected engines, but the newly available Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe, or PDK, double-clutch gearbox also deserves praise.<br /><br />The base Boxster and Cayman will now have 255 hp and 265 hp respectively, and the S versions will be rated at 310 for the Boxster S and 320 for the Cayman S. A Cayman S with PDK and Launch Control will also get to to 62 mph in just 4.9 seconds. At the other end of the lineup, the Boxster with a six-speed manual will do it in 5.9 seconds. Gas mileage should run 25.5-26.4 mpg. The new models will hit the market in February 2009, with European prices ranging from Euro 38,600 for a base Boxster to 61,493 for a Cayman S. The full press release is after the jump, and we have official high-res images set up in the galleries below. Plus we'll have our own live, firsthand impressions in a few hours.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-boxster">2010 Porsche Boxster</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/00_boxster09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/01_boxster09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/02_boxster09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/03_boxster09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-boxster/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/04_boxster09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman">2010 Porsche Cayman</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/00_cayman09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/01_cayman09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/02_cayman09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/03_cayman09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/04_cayman09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Porsche]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/19/la-2008-porsche-to-debut-freshened-boxster-and-cayman/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LA 2008: Porsche to debut freshened Boxster and Cayman with PDK</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/19/la-2008-porsche-to-debut-freshened-boxster-and-cayman/">LA 2008: Porsche to debut freshened Boxster and Cayman with PDK</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 19 Nov 2008 12:27:00 EST. A blacked-out Cayman with larger wheel arches and bolt-on fender flares was spotted recently, and it could be a tester for either car. With the rumored suspension tweaks for the Cayman S Sport, this could be making room for a serious set of rubber to take advantage of, not to mention 303 hp. Or perhaps the next Cayman will get some bigger shoes... and that wouldn't be such a bad thing either. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://globalmotors.net/porsche-cayman-facelift-in-the-works/">Global Motors</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/11/spy-shots-cayman-with-bigger-wheel-arches-a-mule-for-the-s-spo/">Spy Shots: Cayman with bigger wheel arches, a mule for the S Sport?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 11 Sep 2008 08:58:00 EST. <p>With both the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/13/first-drive-2008-porsche-rs-60-spyder/">Boxster RS 60 Spyder</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/15/la-2007-porsche-cayman-s-porsche-design-edition-1-is-ultimate-d/">Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1</a> already sold out, Porsche is moving on to its next pair of special edition mid-engine sportscars. Both of the new exclusive models feature a boost of a modest eight horsepower, but what differentiates them from their standard stablemates is more in the trim.</p>
<p>The Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2 is now decked out in Carrara White, from the exterior body color and the 19" SportDesign wheels to the center console and instrument faces. Grey racing stripes and a grey roof with black leather, meanwhile, complement the white theme.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-cayman-s-sport-3/957980/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/cayman-sport-web.jpg" alt="" /></a>The Cayman S Sport takes more of a "GT3 Junior" approach. The car comes standard in either orange or bright green, with the scripted name popping out of the retro black stripe on the lower flank, which is complemented by black wheels, black sideview mirrors and a blacked-out interior. (Black, red, yellow, white and silver are also available for the exterior color.) The Cayman S Sport also comes standard with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), a sports exhaust system, Alcantara grip trim, bi-xenon headlamps, the Sports Chrono Package and sports seats, and the ride height is dropped by fifteen millimeters.</p>
<p>Only 500 examples of the Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2 will be offered, along with 700 units of the Cayman S Sport. Check out the images in the gallery below and the press release after the jump for all the angles.</p>

What first began with <a href="http://www.caymanclub.net/cayman-chat/24955-2-more-us-dealers-confirming-spring-09-next-cayman-3.html">forum rumblings</a> now appears to be official information from the factory. The revised Boxster S and Cayman S models will get direct injection and the new seven speed PDK transmission along with a limited slip differential. That DI is responsible for an increase of 25 ponies to 320 hp along with 273 lb.-ft. of torque in the Cayman. Lesser models don't get the DI, but will get a displacement bump from 2.7- to 2.9-liters and a corresponding jump to 265 horsepower. The Boxster and Boxster S each offer ten fewer ponies than the Cayman.<br /><br />Along with the new PDK transmission, which produces faster shifts than the conventional six-speed manual 'box, the Sport Chrono package will be available along with Launch Control. As is often the case with Porsche, a comparison is required to notice the revised front and rear fascias, but after some examination, we like what we see. Take a look at the galleries below of both the revised Cayman S and Boxster S models to judge for yourself.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman-renderings">2010 Porsche Cayman Renderings</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/2010cayman1_original_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/2010cayman2_original_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/2010cayman3_original_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-cayman-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/2010cayman4_original_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-boxster-renderings">2010 Boxster Renderings</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-boxster-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/boxster_fl_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-boxster-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/boxster_fl_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-boxster-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/boxster_fl_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-boxster-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/boxster_fl_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-boxster-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/boxster_fl_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.caymanclub.net/cayman-chat/24955-2-more-us-dealers-confirming-spring-09-next-cayman-3.html">Cayman Club</a> via <a href="http://jalopnik.com/398562/2010-porsche-cayman-s-boxster-s-revealed-by-internal-renderings">Jalopnik</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/15/rendered-speculation-2010-porsche-cayman-leaked/">Rendered Speculation? 2010 Porsche Cayman leaked</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 15 Jul 2008 14:28:00 EST. Follow the jump to read our impressions on the Porsche Cayman S after we held the keys in our hands for a week.</p>
