With a vehicle as iconic as the Porsche 911, even small changes are a big deal. Take this new 2012 model, for example - its design has only been tweaked ever so slightly, and the non-visual modifications include some powertrain tweaks and overall chassis enhancements. We've been gushing over the official 911 details for a while now, but here at the Frankfurt Motor Show, we're finally able to get up close and personal with Porsche's new hotness.

Arguably the biggest bit of news regarding the 2012 911 is its seven-speed manual transmission, available with both the 3.4-liter and 3.8-liter flat-six engines. That, combined with start/stop technology means the new 911 will be more efficient than ever, though its impressive output numbers (350 horsepower for the 3.4-liter mill, 400 hp for the 3.8) mean it'll still be an excellent enthusiast machine out on the road. Porsche claims 0-60 times of 4.4 seconds for the base Carrera and 4.1 seconds for the Carrera S.

This is one car we'll surely be starting at quite a bit during our time here in Frankfurt, so stay tuned for plenty more live shots to come over the next few days. In the meantime, scroll through our high-res image gallery to see Porsche's new icon for yourself.
2012 Porsche 911 is the icon, tweaked originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 13 Sep 2011 04:29:00 EST.
Spy lenses have once again caught Porsche engineers out testing the next generation 911. Both cabriolet and coupe versions were seen out running on the Nürburgring. The 2012 Porsche 911 is expected to be slightly larger and boast a wider rear track. The boxer engine in the base model is rumored to produce 345 horsepower.

Current intelligence also has it that Porsche plans to unveil the car at the upcoming 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Until then, check out the spy photos in our galleries below.

Rally fans often stand at a corner or in the middle of a straight away, sometimes for hours, just to get a glimpse of their favorite car. If you're lucky, you get a prime spot at a sharp turn or abrupt elevation that leads to airborne cars. Lucky for us, the Internets exist so that the best moments of these races are captured for our enjoyment.

Over eight minutes of high-revving Porsche GT3 rally cars await you after the jump. Just about every shot is a keeper and the intense (and vivid) screams of the hopped up boxer engines is more than enough reason to spend a few minutes of your time watching the footage after the jump. Besides, you'll want to remember what it is to actually drive a car before heading out of the office and into rush-hour gridlock, right?
Buy a new Carrera, and within a couple of months there's a new Turbo or GT3 you want more. Wait for the Turbo or GT3 and there's a new GT2 coming out. Wait for the GT2 and already it's outdated because there's a new generation of 911 in the pipeline. And here it is.

Spied while undergoing cold weather testing, the test mule seems to carry a more Cayman-like greenhouse, with a more swept-back windshield and sleeker profile than the traditional upright 911 silhouette. A wider, lower grille appears to cap a longer nose left exposed on this test mule, but the tail is all covered up. Sources suggest the next 911 could to hit the road as early as two and a half years from now as a 2012 model, with a possible debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Follow the link to see the next 911 test mule from all the angles.

[Source: AutoWeek]
Spy Shots: 2012 Porsche 911 in a winter wonderland originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 26 Jan 2009 17:41:00 EST. By the looks of it, the headlights are more vertical than the current model, and based on what's covered, the front and rear bumpers and valances will see the majority of the work. Intriguingly, the side mirrors on the car are from the 993, which we imagine are for testing purposes only. If the lower rear valance is any indication, the exhaust outlets could come in for revision, as well.

[Source: Global Motors]
Spy Shots: 998 Porsche 911 originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 27 Nov 2008 11:28:00 EST. You are not looking at the next generation Porsche 911 Type 998, as some around the web have erroneously speculated. A tip sent into our sister-blog, Autoblog Spanish, reveals the origin of this sketch, which is part of the online portfolio of conceptual designer Tommy Forsgren. Perhaps that's because Forsgren currently lives and works in Munich, Germany. Regardless, he is not affiliated with Porsche but actually designs for BMW's DesignworksUSA.

Follow the jump to see what the front of this car might look like...

[Source: Autoblog Spanish]
Continue reading Supposed next-gen Porsche 911 sketch debunked

Supposed next-gen Porsche 911 sketch debunked originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 05 Oct 2006 21:58:00 EST.
