<br />Rumors about a coupe version of the Porsche Panamera were circulating before the sedan was even officially announced, and while a 928 successor has potential, a convertible version of the four-door Panamera seems downright absurd. However, according to an interview conducted by<em> Auto Motor und Sport</em> with Porsche development head Wolfgang D&uuml;rheimer, a drop-top Panamera is feasible - if not entirely likely. D&uuml;rheimer is <a href="http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/porsche-chefentwickler-im-interview-porsche-hat-noch-nie-eindimensional-gedacht-1248669.html">quoted as saying</a> (translated), "Currently, this topic is not on the agenda. We have other homework to do, such as the six-cylinder. And then the Panamera will also have a hybrid engine." As expected, AMuS runs with it, saying that the Panamera convertible would pack a cloth soft-top rather than a retractable hard-top, in keeping with Porsche's convertible 911 variants and Boxster. Of course, a Panamera cabrio would be a huge gamble, particular as the standard sedan hasn't even gone on sale and Porsche is unable to gauge reaction to its first four-door model. If nothing else, Porsche could use the platform that underpins the Panamera to create a new FR coupe, spawning a drop-top variant further down the road.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-panamera/low/">2010 Porsche Panamera</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-panamera/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/p09_0853_a5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-panamera/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/p09_0854_a5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-panamera/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/p09_0861_a5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-panamera/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/p09_0447_a5-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-panamera/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/p09_0433_a5-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/porsche-panamera-viersitziges-panamera-cabrio-in-planung-1249421.html">Auto Motor und Sport</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/06/rumormill-porsche-could-create-convertible-panamera/">Rumormill: Porsche could create Panamera convertible?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 06 May 2009 14:58:00 EST. <p>Nearly two dozen more photos of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/24/officially-official-porsche-releases-all-the-photos-of-the-pana/">Porsche Panamera</a> have emerged following the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/22/more-porsche-panamera-pics-surface/">first official pics</a> that arrived late last week. The latest images show a rear-wheel-drive, 400-hp 4.8-liter Panamera S (in graphite), an all-wheel-drive Panamera 4S with optional PCCB ceramic brakes (in blue) and the 500-hp Panamera Turbo (in silver). We'll assume the Panamera Turbo, like the current 911 Turbo, will also be fitted with permanent AWD. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-panamera/1185606/">adaptive HID headlights</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-panamera/1185617/">LED tail lamps</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-panamera/1185622/">four bucket seats</a> are also clearly visible in the photography. We are also catching glimpses of an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-panamera/1185602/">optional roof rack</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-panamera/1185621/">fitted luggage</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-panamera/1185601/">Turbo's trick rear spoiler</a>. It appears that the floodgates have apparently opened on the Porsche Panamera -- of course, we'll keep adding images to our gallery as they arrive.</p>

<div align="center"><strong><small><em>Click above for high-res gallery of the Porsche Panamera Gran Turismo</em></small></strong><br /></div>
<br />Regardless of what you think of Porsche's upcoming Panamera (we're currently <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/30/spy-shots-porsche-panamera-suddenly-not-so-bad/">on the fence</a>), it is going to be an extremely important launch for the company. Despite the fact that purists panned the Cayenne, it has sold like hotcakes and has made an extremely tidy profit for the German automaker, now in the midst of a major takeover of Volkswagen, the most valuable automaker in the world. Obviously, Porsche is hoping for similar successes from its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/22/yall-ready-for-this-porsche-panamera-will-start-at-127-000/">very expensive</a> four door. As we've heard countless times, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/07/confirmed-porsche-panamera-to-come-with-hybrid-flavor/">hybrid option</a> is currently in the works and a diesel engine is also on the drawing board. We're not entirely sure how the crazy German engineers will do it, but a targa-style top is also being developed. No matter, we'll have all the details soon enough as Porsche brings its production Panamera to the 2009 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Geneva-Motor-Show/">Geneva Motor Show</a> in March.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-panamera-gran-turismo/low/">Porsche Panamera Gran Turismo</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-panamera-gran-turismo/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/3330649c_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-panamera-gran-turismo/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/1568747d_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-panamera-gran-turismo/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/1568747c_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-panamera-gran-turismo/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/1568747b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-panamera-gran-turismo/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/3330649d_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20081006/ANA03/810060334/1216/OEM01">Automotive News</a> - sub. req'd]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/09/porsche-considering-diesel-and-targa-top-for-panamera/">Porsche considering diesel and targa top for Panamera? </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 09 Oct 2008 19:32:00 EST. The sources also said that two mules were on hand, a base and a turbocharged variant, sporting front fender vents that "were reminiscent of [the] Ford Focus." Uh oh.<br /><br />Although details weren't given on the specifics of the diesel engine, Porsche is apparently considering offering an oilburner along with gasoline and hybrid drivetrains, and if approved for production, Autoweek speculates that Porsche could utilize one of Audi's diesels. That could include a 3.0-liter V6, but more likely Porsche would opt for either the 4.2-liter V8 or 6.0-liter V12 that powered the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/R8TDILeMans/">R8 TDI Le Mans</a> concept.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-photos-porsche-panamera/low/">Spy Photos: Porsche Panamera</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-photos-porsche-panamera/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/panameraspy_hb2007_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-photos-porsche-panamera/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/panameraspy_hb2007_002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-photos-porsche-panamera/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/panameraspy_hb2007_003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-photos-porsche-panamera/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/panameraspy_hb2007_004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-photos-porsche-panamera/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/panameraspy_hb2007_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080627/FREE/793760038/1065">Autoweek</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/27/porsche-studying-targa-top-for-panamera-diesel-engine/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Porsche studying targa top for Panamera, diesel engine</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/27/porsche-studying-targa-top-for-panamera-diesel-engine/">Porsche studying targa top for Panamera, diesel engine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 27 Jun 2008 14:59:00 EST.
