<br />
Porsche sells no fewer than seven different Cayenne models in the U.S. All share the same unibody platform and permanent all-wheel drive system, but each is differentiated by its powerplant, brakes, suspension, and accessory list. Whether you are a blas&eacute; soccer mom or an exec hell-bent on embarrassing the dude in the sports car at the traffic light, if you're willing to write the check, Porsche has a Cayenne model with your name on it.<br />
<br />
The selection is generous, but there is something missing from the mix. As of right now, all North American-bound models have an appetite for premium unleaded fuel. With the price of high-test wavering on the expensive side, Porsche has been diligently engineering hybrid and diesel-powered Cayenne models to significantly reduce pain at the pump.<br />
<br />
While the automaker has announced the sale of Hybrid Cayenne next year, it's on the fence about offering the diesel model on this side of the Atlantic. Proudly showing off its latest wares, and teasing us with what we can't have, Porsche let us sample a Euro-spec Cayenne Diesel model... on our own turf.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><br /></span></div>
If you want a powerful, fast Porsche Cayenne, Stuttgart has no shortage of choices on offer, topping out with the mental 550 horsepower Turbo S. Of course, there are plenty of aftermarket tuners willing to take the unreasonable up to downright silly proportions, but if you were looking for power and speed without sacrificing too much fuel, for the most part you were advised to look elsewhere. After all, a big SUV isn't exactly the ideal platform for either. But then along comes Porsche tuner extraordinaire Techart to show you the way with its own custom Porsche Cayenne Diesel.<br /><br />Boosting output from 240 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque to a hefty 290 hp and 465 lb-ft, the Techart Cayenne Diesel drops the stock 0-60 time of 8.3 seconds down to a handy 7.7 seconds, all without harming the vehicle's fuel economy or emissions numbers. Nice work, but the most impressive part is the modified torque curve that gives the big oil-burner accessible grunt from as low as 1,000 rpm. <br /><br />Techart has also crafted a unique Aerokit 1 for the diesel sport-ute, giving it a more aggressive stance while improving airflow, capped with giant 21-inch alloys or optional 22s. The British tuning house offers a turnkey model at &pound;55,500 (around $89k USD) with the body kit and engine mods, or can fit an existing diesel Cayenne with the Aerokit for &pound;15,000 ($24k) and the engine kit for &pound;2,500 ($4k). Details in the press release after the jump and high-res images are on offer in the gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-porsche-cayenne-diesel/low/">Techart Porsche Cayenne Diesel</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-porsche-cayenne-diesel/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/techart-diesel1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-porsche-cayenne-diesel/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/techart-diesel2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-porsche-cayenne-diesel/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/techart-diesel3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-porsche-cayenne-diesel/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/techart-diesel4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-porsche-cayenne-diesel/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/techart-diesel5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Techart]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/twist-and-shout-techart-among-first-to-tweak-porsche-cayenne-di/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Twist and Shout: Techart among first to tweak Porsche Cayenne diesel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/twist-and-shout-techart-among-first-to-tweak-porsche-cayenne-di/">Twist and Shout: Techart among first to tweak Porsche Cayenne diesel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 07 Jul 2009 19:00:00 EST. <br />Say what you will about Porsche's brand-bending foray into the SUV world, but the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/25/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-porsche-cayenne-gts/">Cayenne</a> has been nothing short of a blockbuster sales success for the German automaker that's normally associated with lightweight, technologically-advanced sportscars. To drive that point home even further, Porsche has just announced that the 250,000th Cayenne has rolled down the assembly line at its plant in Leipzig, Germany. This vehicle happens to be destined for Austria, but Porsche is quick to point out that the SUV gives it access to markets like China, Russia, Latin America and the Middle East that would typically shy away from the brand's sportscar roots.<br /><br />The specific Cayenne to hit the quarter-million mark happens to be powered by a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/porschecayennediesel">six-cylinder diesel engine</a>, another stark departure for the automaker that had once worshiped only at the high-rpm altar of petrol. My, how times have changed.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/250-000-porsche-cayenne/low/">250,000 Porsche Cayenne</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/250-000-porsche-cayenne/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/porsche-cayenne-250k-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/250-000-porsche-cayenne/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/porsche-cayenne-250k-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Porsche]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/06/the-apocalypse-is-nigh-porsche-celebrates-250-000th-cayenne/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Apocalypse is Nigh: Porsche celebrates 250,000th Cayenne</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/06/the-apocalypse-is-nigh-porsche-celebrates-250-000th-cayenne/">The Apocalypse is Nigh: Porsche celebrates 250,000th Cayenne</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 06 Mar 2009 18:57:00 EST. As previously <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/23/3-liter-audi-diesel-confirmed-for-porsche-cayenne/">reported</a>, the oil-burner will be snatched from the Audi parts bin and reportedly be essentially unchanged in Porsche guise. That means 240 horsepower and 406 lb.-ft. of torque, plenty to get the hefty Cayenne out of its own way. Instead of spending development money on a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/17/porsche-cayenne-i-diesel-i-arrives-in-early-09/">Porsche-specific</a> diesel engine, Zuffenhausen has instead invested in a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/17/porsche-cayenne-hybrid-delayed-until-at-least-2010/">hybrid system</a>, which will also see duty in the Cayenne around 2010. By then, a lithium-ion battery will likely be ready to replace the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/15/la-2007-porsche-cayenne-hybrid-can-go-75-mph-on-battery-power-a/">prototype's</a> nickel-based unit.<a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/11/15/2007-la-auto-show-videos-porsche-cayenne-hybrid-volkswagen-spa/"><br /><br /></a>[Source: <a href="http://www.autobild.de/artikel/plaene-bei-porsche_761667.html">Auto Bild</a> via <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/08/08/porsche-finally-confirms-a-diesel-for-the-cayenne/">AutoblogGreen</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/09/porsche-cayenne-diesel-finally-confirmed/">Porsche Cayenne Diesel finally confirmed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 09 Aug 2008 11:01:00 EST. <p>Many will cringe at the idea of a diesel-powered Porsche, but since Stuttgart rolled out its first SUV, we've all had a while to get used to the idea. Although <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/17/porsche-cayenne-i-diesel-i-arrives-in-early-09/">previous speculation</a> held on to hopes that Porsche might employ a more powerful 3.2-liter oil-burner, reports now indicate that the Cayenne diesel will employ Audi's 240-horsepower 3.0-liter TDI V6. </p>
<p>Expect the diesel Cayenne to debut next March, following a probable launch at the 2009 Geneva auto show.</p>

While Porsche purists the world over may be upset over an oil-burner underhood (or under trunk) of any Porsche model, we don't see the big deal. After all, it's not like the Cayenne, despite what Porsche would have you <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/09/video-porsche-cayenne-gts-bloodlines-commercial/">believe</a>, has all that much 911 DNA in it anyway. A modern diesel engine could help Porsche meet new fuel economy regulations for a lower cost than a hybrid, and the diesel V6 engine sourced from Audi should prove plenty capable of hauling the SUV's mass-tonnage around. Though Audi's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/18/diesels-on-our-doorstep-audi-lays-out-tdi-intitiative-for-the/">current TDI six</a> displaces 3.0 liters and is good for 240 HP and 406 lb.-ft. of torque, rumors indicate that Porsche will be using a 3.2 liter version of this engine that makes at least 300 horses. We think that should do rather nicely.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-cayenne-gts/low/">2008 Porsche Cayenne GTS</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-cayenne-gts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/0000gts_chi_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-cayenne-gts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/0001gts_chi_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-cayenne-gts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/0002gts_chi_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-cayenne-gts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/0003gts_chi_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-cayenne-gts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/0005gts_chi_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Sources: <a href="http://www.automobilwoche.de/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080229/REPOSITORY/539137949/1005/REPOSITORY">Automobilwoche</a> (<a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.automobilwoche.de%2Fapps%2Fpbcs.dll%2Farticle%3FAID%3D%2F20080229%2FREPOSITORY%2F539137949%2F1005%2FREPOSITORY&amp;hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;sl=de&amp;tl=en">translated</a>), <a href="http://www.germancarblog.com/2008/06/porsche-cayenne-diesel-version-coming.html">German Car Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/17/porsche-cayenne-i-diesel-i-arrives-in-early-09/">Porsche Cayenne <i>diesel</i> arrives in early '09</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 17 Jun 2008 14:58:00 EST.
