<br /> These are our favorite kinds of car videos. Take a few super hot, fire-breathing, track-ready road cars and pit them against one another on a race track and see who wins.<em> Autocar</em> magazine's Steve Sutcliffe assembled the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/gt+r">Nissan GT-R</a>, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/911">Porsche 911 Turbo</a> and the<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/r8"> Audi R8 V10</a> at the UK's <a href="http://www.castlecombecircuit.co.uk/">Castle Combe</a> circuit to see which of the entry level supercars could turn in the fastest lap. <br /> <br /> The GT-R is the low-cost track star of the bunch, with the most mass, the least power and, arguably the most grip of the group. The 911 Turbo is the featherweight of the entry supercar trio, with middle-of-the-pack power and an (apparently) adventurous ride. The R8 V10 has the most power and Audi's excellent Quattro all-wheel drive system. <br /> <br /> Sutcliffe took all through road warriors through the paces at Castle Combe, and the dynamic trio finished within about one second of each other. One of them could have won if it weren't for some iffy brakes, another didn't quite have the grip to win the day while the winner was quickest in and out of turns. Who won? You'll have to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/10/video-i-autocar-i-pits-nissan-gt-r-vs-porsche-911-turbo-and/#continued">hit the jump</a> and watch the high-res footage to find out.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-audi-r8-v10/low/">2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-audi-r8-v10/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/10r852fsi_01_hrgb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-audi-r8-v10/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/10r852fsi_10_hrgb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-audi-r8-v10/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/10r852fsi_02_hrgb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-audi-r8-v10/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/10r852fsi_03_hrgb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-audi-r8-v10/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/10r852fsi_09_hrgb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-gt-r/low/">First Drive: 2009 Nissan GT-R</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-gt-r/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/01_ab_first_drive_gt-r_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-gt-r/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/02_ab_first_drive_gt-r_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-gt-r/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/03_ab_first_drive_gt-r_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-gt-r/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/04_ab_first_drive_gt-r_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-gt-r/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/05_ab_first_drive_gt-r_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-911-turbo-first-drive/low/">First Drive: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-911-turbo-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/01_2010911turboreview_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-911-turbo-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/02_2010911turboreview_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-911-turbo-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/03_2010911turboreview_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-911-turbo-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/04_2010911turboreview_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-911-turbo-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/05_2010911turboreview_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: Autocar via <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OTUHgTAMMU&amp;feature=player_embedded">YouTube</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/10/video-i-autocar-i-pits-nissan-gt-r-vs-porsche-911-turbo-and/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: <i>Autocar</i> pits Nissan GT-R vs. Porsche 911 Turbo and Audi R8 V10 on Castle Combe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/10/video-i-autocar-i-pits-nissan-gt-r-vs-porsche-911-turbo-and/">VIDEO: <i>Autocar</i> pits Nissan GT-R vs. Porsche 911 Turbo and Audi R8 V10 on Castle Combe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 10 Dec 2009 19:58:00 EST. <br />
As we discovered <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/02/2010-porsche-911-turbo-first-drive/">earlier this month</a>, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/07/porsche-unveils-facelifted-2010-911-turbo-packing-500-horsepower/">2010 Porsche 911 Turbo</a> is one heck of a fast car. The quickest Porsche has ever produced, in fact. So it would take considerable moxie to try and improve on it. Fortunately, 9ff has such moxie, as demonstrated with the company's new Speed9.<br />
<br />
We brought you <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/22/9ff-speeding-into-essen-with-speedster-inspired-speed9/">initial info</a> on the Speedster-inspired tuner car a few days ago, but 9ff has been kind enough to grace us with a few more details on its latest endeavor. Set to be unveiled this coming weekend at the Essen Motor Show - Germany's equivalent of SEMA - the 9ff Speed9 starts with the new 911 Turbo cabrio and updates with a series of performance and body mods to take it to the next level. <br />
<br />
Improving on the 997.5's 3.8-liter direct injection twin-turbo boxer six, the 9ff pumps output up from 500 horsepower up to 650 ponies with a simple upgrade to the ECU and new air filter, exhaust and catalytic converter. The result? Try 0-100 km/h (62mph) in 3.3 seconds en route to a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph) - limited only by the speedster's slick open body-style. But those sleek looks and extra oomph will cost you: 239,000 euros - the equivalent of $360,000 in American greenbacks. That's two-and-a-half times the price of a stock 911 turbo cab, but if cost is no object, the Speed9 could be just your ticket.<br />

<br />
If you love the spirit of SEMA but tend to lean towards more European tastes, Essen is the show for you. The annual aftermarket show in Germany always brings out an enticing crop of European tuner cars, and 9ff isn't about to let it go by without making its mark. <br />
<br />
The Porsche tuner is hitting Essen with the Speed9, a slick speedster inspired by the legendary 356 (circa 1955) and based on the latest 997 Turbo cabrio. Naturally, 9ff started in the rear, boosting the 3.6-liter twin-turbo flat six from 473hp stock up to a whopping 650, all by tweaking the ECU and swapping out the air filter, exhaust and catalytic converter. The tuners have also fitted adjustable stabilizers front and rear with double springs at each corner, coupled with upgraded brakes. <br />
<br />
There's no word yet on what effect the mods will have on performance, but you can't miss the body kit 9ff has developed. They've done away with the rear seats to give the cabrio a speedster-like profile, while fitting a new front air dam, side skirts and rear apron. No word on price either, but you can expect it to be commensurately expensive, with much of the range customizable to order.<br />

<br />
It's faster to 60 mph than a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 or Ferrari Enzo. Porsche's fastest offerings, including the Carrera GT, GT2 and road-going 911 GT1 "Strassenversion" will only see its LED tail lamps during a typical sprint. Only the unlikely - make that incomprehensible - meeting of an SSC Ultimate Aero or Bugatti Veyron at a stop light will concern this car's owner that he or she has met a worthy adversary. The vehicle is the new seventh-generation 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo. Sporting a new 500-horsepower engine mated to the automaker's lightning-fast dual-clutch PDK transmission, the all-wheel drive coupe devours the magic 0-60 mph benchmark in less than 3.2 seconds.<br />
<br />
Porsche invited us to a track outside Lisbon, Portugal to savor their latest Turbo iteration. While the physical appearance remains virtually unchanged to the uninformed eye, hidden under the familiar sheet metal is a new powertrain that makes one of the world's best sports car even more exceptional. What are the new mechanical specifications of the powerplant, and where does it come from? What's it like to drive on a track? Is the PDK transmission really better than the six-speed manual? Follow the jump for all of the answers...<br />

<br />
The Joetwint Porsche 996 is scary fast. Twint scored a world record top speed of 231.4 mph in the Texas Mile, and at a recent run the Evolution Motorsports-tuned 911 managed to hit 224.711 mph, but it also had a bit of a spill. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/23/video-tuned-porsche-996-turbo-loses-it-at-224-mph/#continued">Hit the jump</a> to watch video of the massively-boosted 996 take off like a rocket and reach speeds of over 200 mph in a matter seconds. The video would be impressive enough even if it were simply a standard run, but this clip has a bit of a surprise ending.<br />
<br />
About 54 seconds in, the incredibly high speeds achieved by the 996 prompted the sunroof to pop right off. That's bad when you're going 85, but when you're cruising at nearly one third the speed of sound, it can be catastrophic. A few seconds after the impromptu top-popping, the 996 gets sideways and ends up taking an unscheduled tiptoe through the weeds. The video is pretty entertaining, but it's also informative. If you're building a world-beating track star capable of speeds of over 200 mph, don't opt for the sunroof.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>2010 Porsche 911 Turbo - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
With its new-for-2010 direct-injected, 3.8-liter turbocharged flat-six, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/07/porsche-unveils-facelifted-2010-911-turbo-packing-500-horsepower/">upgraded 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo</a> has fired a shot across the bow of the world's supercar armada. Promising better performance, better fuel economy and better emissions, this tweaked 997 should hold the fort until the 998 appears in a couple of years.<br />
<br />
With 20 extra horsepower motivating the lightened (by 55 pounds) all-wheel drive coupe, it should be noticeably quicker than its 2009 counterpart. How much quicker? <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/243973/"><em>Autocar</em></a> is reporting that it's a full ten seconds faster around the Nurburgring Nordschleife than a 2009 Porsche 911 Turbo. That means the new Turbo just breaks into the 7:30s at 7m 39sec.<br />
<br />
That still puts it behind the rival Nissan GT-R at 7:28 after former Formula One driver, Toshio Suzuki, went out and shaved more than a second off the car's previous best. Of course, Porsche still has a possible <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/26/rumormill-porsche-911-turbo-s-coming/">Turbo S</a> model in the works and already produces a wicked <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/15/frankfurt-2009-2010-porsche-911-gt3-rs-is-pretty-dang-sweet/">911 GT3 RS</a> that can probably close the official gap between them and Godzilla.<br />

<br />
As <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/31/switzer-performance-p800-997-twin-turbo-the-world-is-never-enou/">we've discussed</a>, the current Porsche Turbo is much too slow. Rather than let the aftermarket have all the glory, Porsche has decided to up the Turbo's performance for 2010. But not just in terms of power. Egged on no doubt by the pesky <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/NissanGTR/">Nissan GT-R</a>, Porsche is performing a complete character change for their newest Turbo, including less weight, RWD bias and a more sporting character.<br />
<br />
The big news is of course the engine. Goodbye 3.6-liter six, it's been fun. Hello 3.8-liter directed injected flat-six from the Carrera S. Coupled to two variable-vane turbos, power is now 500 hp. And because it's direct injected, mileage increases from 22.1 mpg to 24.1 mpg with the manual. Should you opt for Porsche's 7-speed <span style="font-style: italic;">Doppelkupplungsgetriebe</span> (dual-clutch) gearbox, mileage improves from the old Tiptronic's 20.8 mpg to a very impressive 24.8 mpg. Also gone (kinda) are the silly dual-action faux-paddle shifters. Replacing them are F1 style right-is-up, left-is-down wheel-mounted paddles -- a welcome improvement, though we'd still prefer column-mounted shifters like on Ferraris and Godzilla. And you can still opt for the inferior dual-action buttons if you like.<br />
<br />
The fun continues with a reprogrammed Porsche Traction Management system that distributes torque between the front and rear differentials via an electric multi-plate clutch. Still not convinced? The PSM (Porsche Stability Management) has been re-calibrated to provide more thrills. New RS Spyder rims are also available to decrease unsprung weight. In a word, yes please. <br />
<br />
Pricing is listed for the coupe and cabriolet at $132,800 and $143,800 respectively, with an on-sale date of November 2009 in Germany and January 2010 here in the United States. We'll get a first glimpse of the new Turbo this September at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Frankfurt-Auto-Show/">Frankfurt Auto Show</a>. Until then, read the full press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/07/porsche-unveils-facelifted-2010-911-turbo-packing-500-horsepower/">after the jump</a>.<br />

<br />It's been quite a few years since RUF launched its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2005/02/17/650-hp-997-porsche/">911 Turbo-based Rt 12</a>, and the German uber-tuner has decided its time for a refresh. Designated the Rt 12 S, the new model gets a bump in output from 650 to 685 horsepower, good for a new maximum velocity of 224 mph. Along with the distinctive front and rear fascias, the exterior is differentiated with widened rear fenders that house air ducts, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, LED lighting, CTR 3 mirrors, and 19-inch alloy wheels. Additional upgrades include carbon ceramic brakes, a hydraulically-adjustable suspension system, a variety of custom seats, a new steering wheel and more. Customers can also opt to convert the car to RWD and choose from a variety of interior trim options. All of this comes at a cost, though. At the current exchange rate, RUF will take a cool $359,000 out of your bank account. The brief press release gives all the details after the jump, and RUF was kind enough to provide high-res photographs for us to enjoy in the gallery below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ruf-rt-12-s/low/">RUF Rt 12 S</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ruf-rt-12-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/rufrt12s_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ruf-rt-12-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/rufrt12s_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ruf-rt-12-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/rufrt12s_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ruf-rt-12-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/rufrt12s_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ruf-rt-12-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/rufrt12s_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.ruf-automobile.de/content.php?seite=seiten/aktuelles.php&amp;archiv=&amp;jahr=&amp;details=65">RUF Automobile</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/29/ruf-updates-lineup-with-685-horsepower-rt-12-s/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ruf updates lineup with 685 horsepower Rt 12 S</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/29/ruf-updates-lineup-with-685-horsepower-rt-12-s/">Ruf updates lineup with 685 horsepower Rt 12 S</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 29 Jul 2009 19:58:00 EST. <br />Most stock components in a production car can only be pushed so far. Keep adding horsepower and torque, and eventually...well, something is going to break. Some people, however, are all about exploring the limits. Take Tym Switzer, for example. His tuning company, Switzer Performance Innovation of Oberlin, Ohio has come up with a bolt-on tuning package for the Porsche 997 911 Turbo that offers<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/28/first-drive-bugatti-veyron/"> Bugatti Veyron</a> aping performance. So, how much power can the stock internals in Stuttgart's 3.8-liter flat-6 take? Apparently, quite a lot. <br /><br />The shop has recorded 850 horsepower and 727 lb-ft of torque on the rolling dyno, equating to over 1000 horsepower at the crank. Real world performance should be mind boggling, with the car reportedly reaching 60 miles-per-hour in the mid two second range, blowing through the 1/4 mile in just 9.79 seconds at 146 mph. Pricing looks to be just as fierce, with the Sledgehammer package retailing for $<span style="font-style: italic;">49,990</span>. While that's a lot of coin for a suite of bolt-ons, the performance would appear to speak for itself. <span style="font-style: italic;">Videos of both the dyno run and the 1/4 mile pass can be viewed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/09/tuner-creates-1000-horsepower-porsche-911-with-bolt-ons/">after the jump</a> as well as SPI's official press release. </span><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spi-sledgehammer/low/">SPI SLEDGEHAMMER</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spi-sledgehammer/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/sledgehammer_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spi-sledgehammer/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/sledgehammer_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spi-sledgehammer/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/sledgehammer_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spi-sledgehammer/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/sledgehammer_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spi-sledgehammer/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/sledgehammer_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.switzerperformanceinnovation.com/">Switzer Performance Innovation</a>]<br /><a target="_blank" href="http://swizterperformanceinnovation.com/"></a><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/09/tuner-creates-1000-horsepower-porsche-911-with-bolt-ons/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tuner creates 1000-horsepower Porsche 911... with bolt-ons.</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/09/tuner-creates-1000-horsepower-porsche-911-with-bolt-ons/">Tuner creates 1000-horsepower Porsche 911... with bolt-ons.</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 09 Jan 2009 20:32:00 EST. <br />The 996 Porsche Turbo is old news, but that didn't stop Theory Communication and Design and iForged Wheels from whipping up a version that makes us quiver slightly, even though it's green. Artisan stuffed 650 horses under that rear wing with its turbo upgrade package, and the TechArt GT Street wide body rear kit has a beautiful carbon diffuser and ample ports for viewing the intercoolers. The car's speed is held in check by yellow Brembo calipers restrained behind iForged wheels, and your own speed will be held in check by the 5-point harness on the Porsche-logoed Sparco seats. Check out the press release after the jump, and the gallery of high-res photos of the build and show car below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-mobil1-996-porsche-turbo/low/">SEMA 2008: Mobil1 996 Porsche Turbo</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-mobil1-996-porsche-turbo/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/01_mob1_996_tt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-mobil1-996-porsche-turbo/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/02_mob1_996_tt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-mobil1-996-porsche-turbo/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/03_mob1_996_tt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-mobil1-996-porsche-turbo/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/04_mob1_996_tt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-mobil1-996-porsche-turbo/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/05_mob1_996_tt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/06/sema-2008-mobil1-porsche-996-turbo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SEMA 2008: Mobil1 Porsche 996 Turbo</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/06/sema-2008-mobil1-porsche-996-turbo/">SEMA 2008: Mobil1 Porsche 996 Turbo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 06 Nov 2008 14:29:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a high-res gallery of the Techart GTstreet R</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Techart has worked its magic, yet again, on the 997 Porsche 911 Turbo, boosting output of the twin-turbo'd flat-six to 660 hp and 634 lb.-ft. of torque. The Techart GTstreet R benefits from a duo of new turbos, larger carbon fiber inlet pipes, revised intercoolers and a new cat-back exhaust mated to the revised manifold which all help to drop the 997's 0-60 time to 3.4 seconds when equipped with an auto 'box and 3.5 seconds with a manual. Top speed is a claimed 214 mph.<br /><br />Keeping the Techart-modified 911 planted at speed is a new coil-over kit and 20-inch wheels that work in conjunction with a wind-tunnel-tested body kit and carbon fiber spoiler to add another 22 pounds of down force. If those specs aren't enough to make it stand out, Techart also offers a new hood, carbon fiber headlights, side sills and air ducting for the rear bumper.<br /><br />Make the jump for all the details and check the gallery below for your next desktop.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-gtstreet-r/low/">Techart GTstreet R</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-gtstreet-r/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/01_techart_gtstreet_r_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-gtstreet-r/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/02_techart_gtstreet_r_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-gtstreet-r/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/03_techart_gtstreet_r_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/29/ass-engined-slot-car-of-the-gods-techart-gtstreet-r/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ass-engined slot-car of the Gods: Techart GTstreet R</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/29/ass-engined-slot-car-of-the-gods-techart-gtstreet-r/">Ass-engined slot-car of the Gods: Techart GTstreet R</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 29 Oct 2008 19:28:00 EST. <br />One of the ways that Porsche became the most profitable automaker in the world is by learning how to offer customers a wide range of customization options for their cars... for a premium prices. The latest in its line of performance-oriented parts is a new wheel available for the 911 Turbo. The new 19" forged aluminum roller has a design based on the RS Spyder LMP2 race car. Porsche has apparently devised a new center locking mechanism that uses a bolt rather than a locking nut. The wheels are certainly attractive, but they won't come cheap. Starting in January, European 911 Turbo owners will be able to get the new wheels from a price starting at &euro;2,950 ($3,700). There's no word on whether Americans will be offered these wheels officially, but there's no doubt that anyone willing to drop enough coin at the counter at their local Porsche store will be able to get them somehow. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-rs-spyder-design-wheels/low/">Porsche RS Spyder design wheels</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-rs-spyder-design-wheels/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p09_0223_a5-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-rs-spyder-design-wheels/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p09_0455_a5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-rs-spyder-design-wheels/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p09_0221_a5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-rs-spyder-design-wheels/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p09_0222_a5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Porsche]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/29/porsche-rs-spyder-center-lock-wheels-now-available-for-the-stree/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Porsche RS Spyder center lock wheels now available for the street</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/29/porsche-rs-spyder-center-lock-wheels-now-available-for-the-stree/">Porsche RS Spyder center lock wheels now available for the street</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 29 Oct 2008 14:32:00 EST. <p>About a decade ago, Roock Racing was one of the most dominant GT racing teams at Le Mans and a short time later in the ALMS with their Porsche GT2 race cars. Since then they have focused their attention on tuning street Porsches, the latest of which is the RST 600 LM that commemorates their victory in the GT2 class at the 1996 24 Hours of Le Mans. The package includes upgraded turbochargers, a titanium exhaust system, and an upgraded ECU good for just over 600 horsepower and 611 lb-ft torque. Performance numbers are a claimed 3.1 second sprint to 60 mph and a top end of 211 mph. Roock also adds a carbon fiber clutch, fully tuned suspension, and massive 380mm drilled and vented brakes. Inside, the RST 600 LM gets carbon fiber trim, oil and temperature gauges, and custom seats with four point harnesses. Finally, subtle exterior modifications are added including a new front splitter, rear diffuser, rear spoiler, and lightweight aluminum racing wheels. Full details are in the press release after the jump and high resolution photos can be found in the gallery below.</p>

<div align="center"><strong><em><small>Click above for high-res gallery of the Nissan GT-R</small></em></strong><br /></div>
<br />Sour grapes or legitimate complaint? That's the question we're left pondering after reading that Porsche believes Nissan must have cheated to record its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/01/gt-r-drops-ring-time-down-to-7-29/">7:29:03</a> lap time of the famed N&uuml;rburgring race circuit. Porsche claims that it had been <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/22/round-1-gt-r-vs-911-turbo-at-the-ring-advantage-gt-r/">suspicious</a> of the Nissan's lap times, so it acquired a U.S.-spec GT-R for testing back-to-back with its own 911 Turbo and GT2. The result? The mighty Godzilla was toppled by the Teutonic German duo, with the GT-R posting times a good 25-seconds slower than Nissan's claim. <br /><br />How can Porsche explain the discrepancy? "This wonder car with 7:29 could not have been a regular series production car. For us, it's not clear how this time is possible. What we can imagine with this Nissan is they used other tires," says August Achleitner, the man in charge of the 911 program. There is <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/01/video-nissan-gt-r-7-29-ring-run/">footage of the GT-R</a> lapping the 'Ring at high speed, but it's taken from inside the car where the tires cannot be seen.<br /><br />Considering the fact that Nissan saw fit to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/01/gt-r-drops-ring-time-down-to-7-29/">issue a press release</a> commemorating the car's fast-lap, we doubt this is something that will be taken lightly. There's a big can 'o worms here, and Porsche's in the corner holding the opener.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/">Review: 2009 Nissan GT-R</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://carsguide.news.com.au/site/motoring-news/story/porsche_accuses_nissan_of_cheating_at_nurburgring/">Carsguide</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/30/porsche-accuses-nissan-gt-r-of-cheating-the-ring/">Porsche accuses Nissan GT-R of cheating the 'Ring</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 30 Sep 2008 09:02:00 EST. <p>You wouldn't be mistaken for thinking that the Porsche 911 Turbo was already one of the fastest, best-performing sportscars on the road today. But that's where uber-tuners like Hamann - who've tuned everything from the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/01/hamann-makes-its-mark-on-new-mini/">MINI Cooper</a> to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/03/no-stone-unturned-hamann-does-the-ferrari-612-too/">Ferrari 612 Scaglietti</a> - come in to confound expectations and shatter assumptions.</p>
<p>Not satisfied with "only" 480 horsepower, the Hamann Stallion packs a whopping 630 of its namesakes. To achieve that 150hp boost in output, Hamann swapped out the variable nozzle turbochargers and replaced them with... bigger variable nozzle turbochargers. They've also fitted a new stainless steel exhaust, a new air filter and, of course, tinkered with the ECU. But they didn't stop at the engine. Hamann also chopped the roof down by 8 cm (about two and a half inches), bolted on a new aero kit and fitted huge 20-inch three-piece modular rims. They've also done up the interior in ostrich skin, applied some racing stripes and, oh yeah, also Lambo'd out the doors. The result? Well, the suddenly ordinary Turbo hits sixty in 3.9 seconds, but the Stallion cuts that down to 3.3. Not too bad for a day's work, but we dare not ask how much all these mods would cost over the price of a stock Turbo.</p>

That's great so far, as everyone wants to know how the Nissan stacks up against its bogey. The trouble comes when a BMW M3 gets tossed into the mix. What? The M3 is a hell of a car and it clearly earns its perennial 10-Best status, but it's outgunned and mismatched in this company. Sure, every generation looks back at its past-self and wonders-out-loud, "What were you thinking," from time to time. Still, our generation sure did have plenty of cool cars, and many of those were featured on television. A rare day went by when we didn't lust for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnum_pi">Magnum P.I.</a>'s Ferrari 308; sitting in the movie theater being mesmerized by Doc's De Lorean (not that it's that great of a car, but it's iconic nonetheless) from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_to_the_future">Back to the Future</a>; or salivating over the Ferrari Daytona and Testarossa from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miami_Vice">Miami Vice</a>?<br /><br />British television viewers have also had their fair share of hit shows with vehicular co-stars. According to a survey by HPI Limited, Porsche's peerless 911 has earned the top spot as the ultimate '80s car, followed only one percentage point in the rears by the original Audi Quattro -- a car featured on current U.K. television in the show <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashes_to_Ashes_(TV_series)">Ashes to Ashes</a>. British TV fans also have fond memories of the Ford Capri SLE 71R driven by Terry McCann in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minder_%28TV_series%29">Minder</a>, a long-running comedy-drama in the U.K.<br /><br />With many of our readers residing in our own age bracket, we'd love to get your input on the ultimate '80s car in the comments, and feel free to mention more of your favorite cars made famous on TV.<br /><br />[Source: HPI International]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/27/porsche-911-ultimate-car-from-the-80s/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Porsche 911: Ultimate car from the '80s?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/27/porsche-911-ultimate-car-from-the-80s/">Porsche 911: Ultimate car from the '80s?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 27 Mar 2008 18:42:00 EST. <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The beating heart of the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (and Turbo) is the company's own proprietary wet-clutch all-wheel-drive system. Its traction dynamics are what Porsche owners and enthusiasts have come to know and trust for generations. Reports are now circulating, however, that <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Stuttgart</st1:place></st1:city> is preparing to dump its own tried-and-tested in-house four-wheel-drive system for an outsourced Haldex transmission, reportedly equipped with the latest electronic limited slip differential. The rumors come at an interesting time for Porsche, considering that a wide range of vehicles from the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/03/porsche-ups-ownership-in-vw-to-51/">Volkswagen Group into which Porsche just acquired majority interest </a>- including VWs, SEATs, Skodas, Audis and even the Bugatti Veyron - use the Haldex. If the reports are accurate, the system could be out on the next iteration of the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 as well as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/05/spy-shots-updated-porsche-911-turbo/">911 Turbo spied while undergoing cold weather testing</a> in Scandinavia just last month.</p>

Every publication is scrambling to concoct a unique comparison test for the new Godzilla. In the past, typical comparisons consisted of nonsensical number ratings calculated through a formula that only had meaning to folks offering their opinion based off their butt cheeks. Now the objective seems to have shifted towards streamlining variables and logging repeatable data for direct overlay between vehicles. First <em>Inside Line</em> brought us <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/13/nissan-gt-r-meets-the-dyno-997-porsche-turbo-and-e92-bmw-m3/">unbiased measurements of power output</a>, now <em>Road and Track</em> gives us measurements of time. They did not quite eliminate the use of their own point scale to add up the results of various tests, but at least they provided the actual time results, as well.<br /><br />The crew from <em>R&amp;T</em> recently transported a U.S. market version of the 2009 Nissan GT-R, a 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo and a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 to Buttonwillow Raceway in California for a little fun. Don't worry about inconsistent journalist drivers either, as they also brought veteran 12 Hours of Sebring race winner Steve Millen along to be the pilot. Their plan saw each car take a few laps of race configuration 13, which has quickly become the <a href="http://www.caranddriver.com/assets/download/0703_hc_and_os_laptimes_ss.pdf">circuit of choice for various media outlets</a>. The typical 0-60 mph, 1/4 mile, skidpad, slalom and braking tests were also performed, but proved to be ill-equipped in distinguishing the competitors. The lap times really told the story with the Porsche clocking in at 2:02.1, the Z06 right on its tail at 2:02.2 and the GT-R well ahead at 1:56.9. <em>Thanks for the tip Chuck!</em><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=31&amp;article_id=6594">Road and Track</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/20/porsche-911-turbo-chevrolet-corvette-z06-and-u-s-spec-nissan/">Porsche 911 Turbo, Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and U.S. spec. <p><em>Auto Express </em>has several spy shots of an all but completely undisguised test mule undergoing cold-weather trials in the frozen north.
