As unlikely a rivalry as it might seem, Peugeot has set its sights on Audi. The French automaker may not be going after Audi at Le Mans anymore these days, but its RCZ sports coupe is still eagerly pursuing the Audi TT with the same vigor it has shown since launching two years ago. To take the fight home to Audi's home territory, Peugeot has launched a special-edition RCZ available exclusively in Germany.

Called the Brownstone edition, the special RCZ gets a metallic brown paint job with silver racing stripe, black trim and 19-inch burnished alloys. Inside, the Brownstone is also all brown, with Cohiba leather and Alcantara trim. The special edition also bundles the Sport, Comfort and Xenon packages together into one, and is powered by a 1.6-liter 156-horsepower turbo four. Only 150 examples will be made available for German buyers for €32,650 - equivalent to about $42k at today's exchange rates.
Peugeot aims for Audi's heartland with RCZ Brownstone edition originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 11 Apr 2012 08:28:00 EST.
We weren't looking for more reasons to pine after the Peugeot RCZ. Initially categorized as a French knock-off of the Audi TT, it seems the slinky coupe from French auto giant PSA has come into its own. But now we've got another reason to want one, and its name is the Asphalt edition.

The blacked-out special features a unique Noir Telluric exterior shade with black 19-inch alloys and a black leather interior to match. The 200-horsepower 1.6-liter turbo four co-developed with BMW does the pulling duties overseas, while we're stuck over here wishing we could get our hands on one.
The commerical campaign for the Peugeot RCZ wants you to know that there is no escape from the hardtop: not only does the car choose you, once it does, it owns you. We don't know if it only chooses rakish chaps wandering the nicer parts of town at night, but we do know that the spot is as European as the car itself. Follow the jump to check it out.

Just in time to celebrate its bicentennial next month, Peugeot is expanding its diesel-powered racing efforts. The French automaker will compete in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring for the first time this May with a pair of its new RCZ coupes. The Nürburgring race has become increasingly important in recent years, as automakers have begun to use it as a venue to do final prove-out of new performance oriented cars.

For this years race Peugeot will bring a pair of nearly stock 2.0-liter HDi FAP RCZs with 200 horsepower to the mighty 'Ring. The only modifications to the cars are the removal of unnecessary equipment like audio systems and the addition of race safety equipment like roll cages, fire suppression, upgraded brakes and a rear wing. The four man driving crew for each car will consist of a mix of pro-drivers and Peugeot staff including PSA vice-chairman Stéphane Caille.
Still thinking of the Rolls-Royce Ghost as a mini-me Phantom? Think again. The design is apparently standing on its own merits, and has won the praise of the Red Dot jury.
If you were enamored of the new Peugeot RCZ when it finally debuted in production guise at the Frankfurt show last month, the latest product of the French rumor mill has got more in store for you. According to emerging reports from across the pond, Peugeot is planning to compliment the svelte coupe with a convertible counterpart.

Because the existing 308 on which the RCZ is based already offers a four-seat hard-top cabriolet in its range, sources anticipate that the drop-top RCZ will feature a lighter and more compact conventional cloth roof that will take the place of the rear seats, giving Peugeot its first proper roadster in years. Alternative reports, however, suggest that the French automaker could go a different route with a removable carbon-fiber roof panel to give the RCZ a targa-esque option. In any event, Peugeot isn't expected to return to the North American market any time soon, so we'll just have to suffice with the superior engineering of the Audi TT whose styling the RCZ apes.

Some things are worth waiting for. Take the Peugeot RCZ, for example. French auto giant PSA has been talking about putting the RCZ into production since initially unveiling it as a concept car in this very hall back in 2007. And that day has finally arrived with the unveiling of the production-ready coupe here in Frankfurt.

The critics may say the styling is too close to the Audi TT, but to our eyes that's no bad thing. And while there are certainly some TT-esque design traits coming through, there is plenty to set this apart as uniquely Peugeot. Sporting a Zagato-style double-bubble roof and muscular wheel arches, the RCZ is easily the most stylish French car this side of a Bugatti.

Mechanically, it's based on the 308 hatchback, but the svelte coupe has dropped the numeric moniker on the road to production. Engines include 1.6-liter turbo fours with 156 or 200 horsepower and a 2-liter turbodiesel with 163 ponies. Also available with the oil-burning mill is a hybrid drivetrain supplemented by a 37-horsepower electric motor that matches the top gas engine's output while upping the ante with all-wheel-drive and environmental bragging rights. Have a closer look in the gallery below.

The Frankfurt Motor Show next month will be a busy place for Peugeot, as the French automaker plans to unveil two new production models plus its first production hybrid along with a gas-electric concept vehicle. The 5008 minivan and RCZ sport coupe are both making their first public appearances as production models, and a second version of the RCZ will also be on display equipped with Peugeot's new HYBrid4 powertrain. HYBrid4 is a parallel through-the-road system that utilizes a conventional internal combustion powertrain that powers one end.

A battery and electric motor reside at the opposite end. In both the RCZ and 3008 crossover, the electric drive is at the rear axle. The system allows the vehicle to have on demand all-wheel drive and can operate in internal combustion, EV or blended modes. The advantage of splitting the powertrains it vastly reduces mechanical complexity compared to power split systems like those from Toyota and Ford. There currently aren't any production plans for the RCZ hybrid, although that could easily change.

The 3008 HYBrid4 is scheduled to launch in early 2011 and may well be the first diesel hybrid light duty vehicle on the road. The 3008 crossover is projected to have CO2 emissions of just 99 g/km while the RCZ would cut that to just 95 g/km.

The conventional gas-powered RCZ coupe debuts next spring with a 200 horsepower, 1.6-liter four cylinder. Meanwhile, the 5008 will join Chrysler's minivans in being shown with an available in-car WIFI hot-spot.
Using styling cues from the Audi TT and the classic Karmann Ghia, we think that Peugeot could have a winner on its hands with its new sporty coupe. While Peugeot has not yet announced details on what will be offered underhood of the production machine, the concept used a version of the Mini's 1.6 liter turbo four. We'll be getting all of the details within time, as the official production version will be unveiled in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. European buyers will have first crack at the RC Z when it goes on sale in the sprint of 2010.

Gallery: Peugeot 308 RC Z

[Source: Peugeot]
Continue reading Officially Official: Peugeot production of 308 RC Z Coupe

Officially Official: Peugeot production of 308 RC Z Coupe originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 24 Apr 2008 13:29:00 EST.
