6S├ębastien Loeb tops Goodwood but misses record

Heading into the Goodwood Festival of Speed this past weekend, insiders speculated that we'd have a new top time on our hands. The record for the English hill climb course has stood at 41.6 seconds since 1999 when Nick Heidfeld drove the McLaren MP4/13, but expectations were high that nine-time World Rally Championship superstar Sébastien Loeb would pilot his Peugeot 208 T16 – the same in which he set the record time at Pikes Peak last year – to knock Heidfeld and McLaren off

3Sebastien Loeb and Peugeot targeting Goodwood hillclimb record

Sebastien Loeb and the more motorsport-obsessed elements of the PSA Peugeot Citroën group seem hellbent with breaking records. Together they've accumulated an unprecedented nine World Rally Championship titles, 78 rally wins and the all-time record for climbing Pikes Peak. And this season they'll be taking on the World Touring Car Championship together as well, hoping to apply their winning form to another racing discipline. But before they do, they'll be going for another trophy: the lap r

9Jacques Villeneuve signs on for World Rallycross Championship

Jacques Villeneuve has raced just about everything. The last Formula One World Champion from North America, this French-Canadian driver has raced in F1, Indy, NASCAR and Le Mans, not to mention the Andros Trophy of ice racing and V8 Supercars down in Australia. In fact, having dominated Indy in 1995, F1 in 1997 and placing second at Le Mans in 2008, he's the closest to a living winner of the elusive (if unofficial) Triple Crown of Motorsport as we're likely to see in our lifetime. And now he's g

78Sebastien Loeb demolishes Pikes Peak record with an 8:13.878 [UPDATE: w/video]

Normally we'd wait for a recap to do this but the news is just too big. Everyone knew Peugeot and Sébastien Loeb came to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb to do something impressive, but taking one minute and 33 seconds off last year's record is unprecedented. Rhys Millen set the time to beat in 2012 with a 9:46.164. Loeb just ran the mountain in 8:13.878, which not only makes him the only member of the Eight-Minute Club ever, it beats last year's record by more than 15 percent.

24Watch Sebastien Loeb take first drive in Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak racer

The annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is one of the few events in motorsport with an Unlimited Class that is truly... well, unlimited. To put the word 'unlimited' in perspective, consider the Red Bull-sponsored Peugeot 208 T16: its 3.2-liter bi-turbo V6 engine puts out 875 maximum horsepower, sending power to all four wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox. That's powerful enough to catapult the T16 from 0-62 miles per hour in a scant 1.8 seconds. Keep it planted and it'll hit 12

5Peugeot reveals its 208 T16 Pikes Peak racer

Peugeot is returning to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb this year after a 14-year absence, and it has begun teasing the 208 T16 that Sébastien Loeb will be piloting up the mountain. Sporting a carbon fiber effects package that you won't find on the dealership floor nor at your local tuner, even the cockpit is a surprise since it features a central driving position.
