Kevin Reimer has an interesting career and a fascinating car. The resident of Vancouver, BC is a professional downhill skateboarder - which we now know is a thing you can be - who sees a lot of commonality between his extreme occupation and his cherry 1991 Nissan Skyline GT-R.

The subjects of the latest Petrolicious joint, Racing Champions, Reimer waxes philosophical about skateboarding and driving down some of the same routes. You'll not be surprised to hear that riding the curves of a mountain slope, be it on a deck or in a bucket seat, both rely on grip and nerve in various measure. Scroll down to see for yourself, and don't miss the rest of our Petrolicious library when you're done.
Continue reading What does a world-class downhill skateboarder drive?
Annetta Calisi and her husband have restored their Fiat 500D to the same specification with which it left the factory in 1964. The result is a cheeky yellow cinquecento that looks the part of a 1960's movie star car. For that matter, so does Annetta, who dresses appropriately mod for this latest Petrolicious video, The Speed of Sunshine.

At one point in the video, the lucky owner mentions, "I keep saying 'fun' don't I?" which does a fine job of summing up what it must be like to own this little rascal. Watch below, and smile.

If you've ever driven a vintage vehicle on a regular basis, you know the process from getting from point A to point B is a bit more convoluted than simply hopping in and going. There are rituals to observe, checklists to run through and processes to address before ever touching the ignition. Neglect any one of a number of small tasks and you're likely to find yourself on the side of the road. James Chen, the owner of Axis Wheels, knows all about that. You see, he owns a gorgeous Ferrari Lusso, and coaxing the V12 under the hood to life requires a certain amount of procedure.

Once it's rolling, of course, all that premeditation seems entirely worth the effort. Chen does his best to keep the machine out of traffic, but refuses to keep the coupe sealed away in a museum, so he gets up early and takes to the canyon roads around LA before anyone else is awake. Atta boy.

There's no question that David Paddison has got a very lovely 1974 Jaguar E-Type convertible. The rubber bumpers of this late E-Type may distract ever so slightly from the purity of the lines, but that doesn't mean we're still not completely jealous of the latest Petrolicious subject car.

As usual, the team of vintage car videographers has done a fine job capturing a small moment of gear-headness with this latest installment - The Last of the Breed. We do wonder why we don't get to hear a little bit more of that famed Jaguar V12 rumble, however. There's just a whiff of engine and exhaust sound in the middle of the video, while the rest of the piece sounds like it was scored by Amy Grant's rhythm guitarist. See for yourself, below.
Continue reading Petrolicious profiles one of the final Jaguar E-Types

Petrolicious profiles one of the final Jaguar E-Types originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 10 Apr 2013 16:58:00 EST.
Ashley Rodriguez has a thing for the BMW E28. The amateur train photographer has owned over 15 of the cars in her brief lifetime, and says she's attracted to the old 5 Series because of how rare they are. All told, she's owned every variation of the E28 with the exception of the 2.4td, and the crew from Petrolicious recently stopped by to train their lenses on her most recent acquisition: a lovely M535i. The site's latest video, Rare Things, takes a closer look at just what draws Rodriguez to the E28 and how her passion for the cars has evolved over the years.

As usual, Petrolicious serves up plenty of gorgeous footage of the vintage German sedan, and anyone who's ever harbored an obsession over any one particular model can certainly hear a few chords ring true in Rodriguez's words. Check out the clip below to see what we mean.
Continue reading She's just a girl... who's an E28 fanatic

She's just a girl... who's an E28 fanatic originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 02 Apr 2013 19:30:00 EST.
No matter what your feelings toward the Volkswagen Beetle, you should respect the little runabout. With 75 years of production under its belt and some 21 million units unleashed on the world, odds are everyone knows someone with a Beetle. The crew at Petrolicious has finally gotten around to paying homage to the ubiquitous rear-engine German machine in its latest video, Kindred Spirits. The clip puts a close eye on Stephan Ruiz's über-clean 1967 Beetle. Tastefully modified and mechanically sorted, the Bug is exactly what we think of when we think "Beetle."

This is the latest in a long line of Volkswagen models in Ruiz's stable, and while he's had plenty of misfortune in the past, he says the '67 is helping him turn his luck. You can check out the clip below for yourself.
Continue reading Petrolicious focuses on the ubiquitous Volkswagen Beetle

Petrolicious focuses on the ubiquitous Volkswagen Beetle originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 19 Mar 2013 17:01:00 EST.
We've pretty much been digging on every Petrolicious video that we've come across thus far, but this new title, Never Enough Alfa, may be the most charming to date. In it we hear the story of Manuel Leon Minassian, and his self-proclaimed "psychotic" love of the Alfa Romeo brand.

The star of the episode is Minassian's lovely, race-prepped 1972 Alfa Romeo Berlina, which we get to hear and see on the road and driven with verve. But the interview setting of Minassian's completely bonkers warehouse/garage is, itself, worth the five minutes it will take you to watch all the way through.
Continue reading Meet an Alfa owner unlike any other

Meet an Alfa owner unlike any other originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 15 Mar 2013 19:14:00 EST.
The '60s were a great time for exotic cars. Italian coach builders were busily handcrafting beautiful sheetmetal and plopping whatever throaty drivetrain they could find behind the headlights. For Iso Grifo, that meant marrying lusty European lines with a tried and true Chevrolet small block. In our humble opinion, it's one of the best hybrid creations out there. It would seem the crew from Petrolicious agrees. They recently trained their lenses on the pride and joy of Hirman Bond's collection. A social worker by day, Bond has spent years restoring and selling vintage station wagons and running a detail business on the side.

His efforts eventually landed him his very own Iso Grifo, but unlike most collectors, Bond doesn't have his ultra-rare Italian sealed away in a museum somewhere. No, he drives the car just about every week, thereby subjecting the machine to the slings and arrows of life on public streets. It's always refreshing to see a regular guy bring home his dream car, and it's even more special when the gentleman in question actually puts the machine to good use. Check out the video below for a closer look.
Continue reading Petrolicious revisits our favorite kind of hybrid, the Iso Grifo

Petrolicious revisits our favorite kind of hybrid, the Iso Grifo originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 28 Feb 2013 12:45:00 EST.
Join us for a moment in putting on our way-back hats, zeroing in on the late 1980s. Imagine that you're in your bedroom. Look over at the wall across from your bed. What car do you see on the poster? If you're anything like us, it's a Lamborghini Countach - in fact, it's a trio of Lamborghini Countach models in an array of colors. Oh, and there's also a 1:18-scale diecast Countach in black sitting on our dresser with its scissor doors locked in a skyward embrace.

Of course, the Raging Bull wasn't Italy's only great supercar from the 1980s, especially if you cast your lot at the temple of the Prancing Horse. The Ferrari Testarossa, as pointed out in the latest video from Petrolicious, is an oft unsung hero penned from the stuff boyhood dreams are made of. Far from a *ahem* red-headed stepchild, the Testarossa deserves a place in the minds and hearts of '80s supercar fans the world over.

Jack Olsen has built himself a lair called the 12-Gauge Garage, and inside that garage he built a lairy Porsche 911 nicknamed Black Beauty II. Although it looks like one of Stuttgart's models from the sixties or seventies, it is actually four decades of 911 gubbins from 1965 to 2000 thrown under one shell: the lightweight body is from 1972, the transaxle from 1977, the brakes from a 1986 Turbo, the engine from 1995, for example. It weighs 2,400 pounds and it's got 272 horsepower to get it going, but it's still a pure Porsche, Olsen saying, "If you stop thinking about what you're doing, it will remind you in very abrupt ways."

Olsen said the real point has been to have one car that does it all, so he does everything in his 911 from neighborhood runs to 7-11 to track racing - he loads the aero bits in the car and bolts them on trackside. And he says he'll never stop tweaking the suspension.

You can watch and hear the rest in Olsen's words in the video below.
Continue reading Jack Olsen built one Porsche to do it all

Jack Olsen built one Porsche to do it all originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 23 Jan 2013 19:59:00 EST.
Alpina is getting more and more ink because of because of that rolling cannonade known as the B7 and its closer ties with BMW. The company's tuning business dates to 1962 when Burkard Bovensiepen began fiddling with Weber carburetors, then his company began racing in 1968 and was eventually certified as an automaker in 1983.

Two of its rarer specimens from those early years have gotten a glance from the folks at Petrolicious: the E24 B10 and E24 B7S. Based on the BMW 6 Series, the Alpina versions made one of the most special coupes from the Eighties even more so. According to the video, there were only 44 B10s made, and the turbocharged, 333-horsepower B7S - this was in a luxury coupe in 1982, mind you - saw only 33 examples produced.

You won't be sorry to find out more about them - and see how they run - in the Petrolicious video below.
Continue reading Two rare Alpina BMWs given the Petrolicious treatment

Two rare Alpina BMWs given the Petrolicious treatment originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 22 Jan 2013 19:30:00 EST.
The next stop on the Petrolicious tour of the nation's car stories is Savannah, Georgia. The crew sat down with restorer Andy Greene of Andy Greene's Sports and Vintage Race Cars, and he waxed poetic about his love of Ferraris. See, the shop will work on vintage models and classic road racing cars from other brands, but when it comes to Ferrari, any model from any year can find a place in Greene's garage.

And we'll admit that the yellow Ferrari 250 SWB helps make Greene's case. You can see for yourself what he's talking about in the video below.
Continue reading Petrolicious highlights Andy Greene's love of Ferrari in "The Caretaker"

Petrolicious highlights Andy Greene's love of Ferrari in "The Caretaker" originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 09 Jan 2013 17:13:00 EST.
In 1939, Vensio Pagani's father packed his family up and fled war-torn Italy for France, leaving everything behind in the process. The family home, friends and even his father's prize Peugeot convertible were all abandoned in the hope that the Paganis could find a safer future for themselves.

Vensio cultivated a passion for restoring period vehicles over the intervening 70 years, and happened to spot a vintage Peugeot just like his father's at a swap meet. The car was in pieces and badly in need of restoration, but Vensio drug it back to his shop and began rebuilding the car from the ground up.

It wasn't until he cleaned off the frame that he noticed something special. After scratching back the rust, grime and paint of seven decades, Vensio discovered that the serial number of the car he purchased matched his father's - amazingly, he had found his dad's long-lost Peugeot. Our friends at Petrolicious took the time to speak with Vensio in his workshop for their latest video. You can take a look at it below.
Continue reading Petrolicioius follows one Peugeot through the circle of life

Petrolicioius follows one Peugeot through the circle of life originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 26 Dec 2012 19:59:00 EST.
The latest Petrolicious video, entitled "Napa Valley Roadsters," features high-def footage of Japanese metal rolling though beautiful California hill country. Specifically, the classic two-liter Datsun Roadster.

Like many of the Petrolicious videos that proceeded it, this is a celebration of the personal connection that one has with an automobile. What's more, it's always heartwarming to see how a mutual interest can bring two complete strangers together, who are now close friends. And finally, who doesn't enjoy watching classic machinery mosey through beautiful scenery?

Check it out for yourself in the video below.
Continue reading Petrolicious drinks in the glory of two Datsun Roadsters in wine country

Petrolicious drinks in the glory of two Datsun Roadsters in wine country originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 19 Dec 2012 19:57:00 EST.
Were we the proud owners of a Merededes-Benz 300SL, we imagine it would take a court order to pry us from the driver's seat. Even then, we couldn't promise we'd oblige the law. The team from Petrolicious seems to have found an owner who shares our frame of mind. The video below follows one SL owner as he departs for a quick run to the store to pick up some last-minute holiday items. Except, with a clear road ahead and a piece of vintage German engineering idling beneath him, the owner takes his cue to exercise the 300SL a bit.

Of course, that walk around the block may put his marital bliss in jeopardy, but sacrifices will be made. So, the story is a little corny. We'll let that slide so long as we get to peep more gorgeous shots of the red Gullwing burbling through the hills. Check out the video below for a look yourself.
Continue reading How a Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing can ruin the best of intentions

How a Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing can ruin the best of intentions originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 13 Dec 2012 19:13:00 EST.
We have no qualms admitting our love for vintage Japanese tin. There's just something about the country's hardware from the 1960s and '70s that flips all the right switches for us, and the lovely Skyline sits at the top of that heap. Our friends at Petrolicious seem to share that infatuation. The film crew recently sat down with Ivan Jaramillo outside of San Francisco to take a look at two very special members of his collection. You see, Jaramillo doesn't just own one Skyline. He owns a pair of them, and, unlike some collectors, he uses the cars as they were intended to be enjoyed.

Petrolicious spent some time filming Jaramillo's Hakosuka and Kenmeri tearing through redwood forests with their triple Mikuni carbs barking at the treetops. If you weren't a fan of the ancestors to the modern Nissan GT-R before taking a look at the latest effort from Petrolicious, you will be by the time the clip comes to a close. Check it out below.
Continue reading What it's like to own two historic Nissan Skylines

What it's like to own two historic Nissan Skylines originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 04 Dec 2012 17:14:00 EST.
We've featured the cars of Bring a Trailer, and not so long ago Jay Leno's Garage added a car found on the classics-focused site. Four-wheeled filmmakers Petrolicious have gone behind the web page with a seven-minute piece on the co-founders of BringATrailer.com, Randy Nonnenberg and Gentry Underwood.

Both gentlemen get screen time, but it's Nonnenberg that tells the tale of how his early interest in vintage machinery turned into him becoming The Oracle among his friends when they wanted to buy. Eventually, Underwood's friend spoke up to say 'People want to read about what you know,' and a web site - one of the finest time wasters in all the cyber world, we might add - was born.

You can hear how it all began in the video below.
Continue reading The story of Bring A Trailer, as told by Petrolicious

The story of Bring A Trailer, as told by Petrolicious originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 27 Nov 2012 19:59:00 EST.
There's something about vintage Italian machinery. From the curvaceous lines of the Ferrari 250 GTO to the more exacting angles of the Lamborghini Espada, the cars hold the promise of something illicit. Something both scowling parents and stern-jawed law enforcement would thoroughly disapprove of if you happened to get caught in the act. It's one of the infinite reasons we love them, and the crew at Petrolicious have managed to capture that precipice of temptation on film.

CJ Bonura was kind enough to let the crew tag along during a little impromptu canyon run in his big silver Espada. The video eschews the typical owner interview in favor of more engine audio and an appropriate soundtrack. If the clip doesn't leave you wanting to jump into your own car for a quick sprint, we can't help you. Check it out in the video below, and stay tuned for more goodness from Petrolicious.
Continue reading Words aren't needed in the company of an Espada

Words aren't needed in the company of an Espada originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 20 Nov 2012 12:43:00 EST.
Our friends from Petrolicious recently stopped by Savannah, Georgia for a closer look at Ken Sirlin's 1962 Porsche 356 Cabriolet. Sirlin bought the car while he was living in Brussels in 1985 from a man who carefully scoured the Earth for the perfect donor shell. Once he located it, the car underwent an extensive restoration in order to put it back factory perfection.

Unlike so many restoration queens before it, though, Sirlin's 356 went on to enjoy a little excitement after its rebirth. He used the machine in a few vintage rallies all around Europe, including the Liege Rome Liege event.

That was all before he packed up the 356 Cab and moved to Georgia. Now, the little red convertible serves as a daily driver, plodding around the shaded streets of the historic South and enjoying a life of quiet retirement. As usual, Petrolicious has done an excellent job of capturing both the Porsche and Sirlin's attachment to his car. We suggest you check out the full video below for a closer look.
Continue reading A man and his Porsche 356, never the two shall part

A man and his Porsche 356, never the two shall part originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 13 Nov 2012 20:00:00 EST.
It's easy to forget just how insane the Lamborghini Countach was when it debuted in 1971. While the rest of the world was still focused on producing sports cars with flowing, organic body lines, Lamborghini pulled back the sheets on fiendishly-low Countach with it's razor-sharp panel creases and plethora of vents and ducts. Very simply, there had never been anything like this car on the road before. Maybe that's why it holds onto our imaginations so rabidly. It's more than having owned the poster. It's knowing that in spite of all the machine's flaws, the Countach is something special.

James Chen, the owner of Axis Wheels, knows that fact all too well. As a life-long fan of the Countach, he finally realized a childhood dream when he bought the machine you see above. The crew from Petrolicious recently caught up with Chen to discuss what it is that sets the Countach apart. With plenty of gorgeous cinematography and a soundtrack punctuated by the V12's exhaust note, the clip is well worth your time. Check it out below.
Continue reading Petrolicious sets its lenses on the outrageous Lamborghini Countach

Petrolicious sets its lenses on the outrageous Lamborghini Countach originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 09 Oct 2012 18:30:00 EST.
