One of the great insufferable truths of adulthood is that toys are always cooler when you're too old to acceptably play with them. Take this custom-built Cadillac baby stroller, for example. A scale model of the iconic '60, the stroller features underbody lighting, sweet whitewall tires, unique pin striping and a slick red interior. Of course, that's just what's on the surface. Doting parents may also press a button to make the stroller shoot flames. That's right: shoot flames. We're in love.

If you're as smitten as we are and happen to have a rug rat on the way, you can actually purchase fiberglass pedal-car shells for just $199.99 from eBay. Of course, you'll need to throw your own blood, sweat and tears into the mix to create a final product on par with the the one in the video after the jump. Not a Cadillac fan? No problem. You can also snap up everything from '32 Ford roadsters to '51 Mercury convertibles and even '41 Willys Truck shells as well. You can find them here. In the mean time, hit the jump for a little video inspiration.
Continue reading Custom Cadillac baby stroller leaves us feeling cheated about our childhoods

Custom Cadillac baby stroller leaves us feeling cheated about our childhoods originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 11 Apr 2012 19:00:00 EST.
We've seen some pretty entertaining urban marketing campaigns here in the States, but we have to hand it to the Hyundai China team for the creative way that the company is choosing to drum up buzz about its new Azera. A team of skilled artists whipped up a full-scale, pedal-powered interpretation of the four-door sedan constructed from a tube-steel frame, sheets of plastic, Styrofoam and a vinyl wrap, then spent some time whirring around town to show the contraption to the public at large. Hilarity ensues at valet drop-offs and the like.

We're having a hard time coming up with any official word on exactly who was involved in the vehicle's build or what Hyundai China is doing with their pedal-powered Azera now. We're thinking that with a little modification, this thing would have made an awesome soap box derby racer, but it'd be a shame to see all that hard work risk getting crunched. Hit the jump to check out a few videos off the contraption in action.
Continue reading Awesome pedal-powered Hyundai Azera created in China

Awesome pedal-powered Hyundai Azera created in China originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Sep 2011 13:01:00 EST.
Want your little car nut to stand out from the neighborhood pack of wheeled terrors? Go for one of these fantastic looking half-scale classics from the Vietnam-headquartered Harrington Group, and wave goodbye to mediocre renditions of roadgoing vehicles as little Bobby (or Bobbie) cruises in style. These replicas use composite for both the body and chassis, and the detailing is good enough that they look convincingly like the real thing. Until, that is, someone steps into the picture and you get a scale reference. The company claims to have distributors in the U.S. and U.K., as well as Canada and the Netherlands.

A range of gasoline engines brings real internal combustion thunder and the sweet smell of exhaust to the party. Engines start at 50cc and can go all the way up to a terrifyingly irresponsible racing kart unit. Automatic and manual transmissions are available and there is enough room for adults to ride along with their six-year-old and up progeny. Seats and pedals adjust, too, so when Junior is asleep, you can sneak out for a spin without feeling like a circus bear riding a tricycle.

Interestingly, Harrington Group also makes restoration products for real classic cars, including stainless steel reproduction bumpers and interiors for the Volkswagen Beetle, Citroen 2CV and BMW Isetta.

Fisher Price's Power Wheels are extravagant enough that there's a healthy trade in used battery-powered backyard buggies. Harrington has yet to respond to an Autoblog request for pricing information, but these cars are likely to be significantly north of the $250-$400 you'll spend on a tricked out Power Wheels at the local big box store. Available models are Porsche 356, Mercedes-Benz 300SL, Jaguar E-Type, Willys Jeep, and Bugatti T35, along with mini scooters that ape Vespas of yore. Put one of these under the tree this (fast approaching) Christmas, and you'll see what the face of bliss looks like. Thanks for the tips, all!

Much to our chagrin, we've seen no shortage of polished, chromed or gold plated Porsches over the last few years. Until now none of those were either attractive or functional. But now, we have the Ferdinand GT3 RS.

While the recent 911 GT3 R Hybrid demonstrated that an electromechanical flywheel hybrid system could boost both efficiency and performance, the Ferdinand relies on ultra-light construction to optimize efficiency. Everything non-essential was removed and what was left was stripped to the bare essentials. The revolutionary foil over (PCV) tube-frame construction yields a total mass of just 220 pounds, making the Lotus Elise look like a total porker. The slim tires feature exceptionally low rolling resistance and the simplified controls let the driver stay focused on the task at hand. The Ferdinand is not quite as swift as the hybrid, but sometimes thats the price you have to pay for zero emissions.
Click above for high-res image gallery of the Morgan SuperSport Junior pedal car

Budding automotive gearheads (along with a few of us here at Autoblog HQ) have one more piece of pedal car hotness to add to their Holiday wishlists: a new 2/3rd scale trike from Morgan. In the modern era, this classic British sportscar manufacturer offers a series of old-school four-wheelers complete with wooden substructures hewn from ash, but Morgan's early years focused on three-wheeled cyclecars that used V-Twin motorcycle engines mounted right in front of the grille and powering the two front wheels. Founded in 1909, Morgan Motor Company is celebrating its first 100 years in business by offering a limited edition run of these SuperSport Junior mini trikes.

Scheduled for production in August of 2009, Morgan's new pedal car has a price tag of £2,510 - about $3,700 in the States - and only 500 will be produced. The entire human-powered vehicle is made from only the highest quality materials, including a non-functional aluminum engine up front - just like the classic Grand Prix model from the early 1900s. A quick glance at the images in our gallery below already has us pondering what it would take to adapt a little Briggs & Stratton in its place.

Gallery: Morgan SuperSport Junior pedal car

[Source: Morgan]
Morgan kicks off centennial celebration with scale trike originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 26 Dec 2008 09:58:00 EST. In 2005, he took a 1986 Buick Regal, gutted it, and replaced its running gear with pedals, calling it the "Shared Propulsion Car." In an early video of the passenger-powered car, it navigates New York traffic with a few impatient drivers, but no big problems. The Buick, with its super-slow acceleration, is stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic just like everyone else. We assume the passengers arrive at their destination safely, if not tired and perhaps in better shape. Broin describes the car on his Web site:

"In this project, all superfluous devices were removed from an 86' Buick Regal - the engine, suspension, transmission and electrical system - thereby reducing the weight of the vehicle whilst preserving its appearance. It was then equipped with 4 independent pedal and gear mechanisms that make it possible for passengers to form the self-propulsion group. A cutting edge transmission technology was developed to transmit the power supplied by the passengers to the drive wheels and to vary the reduction ratios between cyclists and wheels, so as to ensure their progressive coupling for start-ups. With a top speed of around 15 km/h, the vehicle's resistance to the culture of performance is raised to an unprecedented level.

However, in December of 2007, Broin took the car back to Canada, where it didn't exactly make fans with the Toronto police. It's hard to make out exactly why the Canadian cops weren't happy with the Buick, but apparently it has something to do with safety. Watch the video and see for yourself.

[Source: micheldebroin.org via blogto.com]
Continue reading VIDEO: Pedal-powered Buick displeases Canadian cops

VIDEO: Pedal-powered Buick displeases Canadian cops originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 02 Feb 2008 17:02:00 EST. Behold the Auto Union Type C pedal car. This isn't some plastic thing you go pick up at Toys 'R Us on a lark, either. It's a scaled-down replica, complete with an aluminum space frame, aluminum bodywork, leather seat and trim, hydraulic dual-disc brake, a removable steering wheel, and bespoke spoked wheels. It's limited to 999 units, which can be ordered directly through your country's respective Audi importer. Those parties will also be able to inform prospective buyers of the price, which may or may not surpass that of a Toyota Yaris. Your guess is as good as ours, and really, nothing would surprise us. We just wonder what happens if junior accidentally puts one into the garage door and mucks up that gorgeous bodywork. Are Audi dealers equipped to handle the repairs? Is a fleet of R8 pedal cars standing by for use as service loaners?

Audi's full press release is pasted after the jump.

[Source: Audi AG]
Continue reading Pedal to the Metal: Audi offering Auto Union Type C pedal car

Pedal to the Metal: Audi offering Auto Union Type C pedal car originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 03 Aug 2007 14:02:00 EST.
