<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>2010 Devon GTX walkaround with Jay Leno and Justin Bell - <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/23/video-jay-leno-inspects-the-devon-motorworks-gtx/">click above</a> to watch the video<br />

<br />
Celebrity car-lover Jay Leno was up in Monterey this year, helping to auction off some charity items and checking out every car that caught his fancy. One such car was the newest all-American supercar, Devon's GTX. Jay spotted the car on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/16/monterey-2009-concept-and-show-car-roundup-at-pebble-beach/">concept lawn at Pebble Beach</a> and had development driver Justin Bell give him a walkaround. Fortunately, someone had a camera rolling to chronicle the experience for a <em>Jay Leno Garage</em> segment.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/23/video-jay-leno-inspects-the-devon-motorworks-gtx/">Click through to the jump</a> and you'll hear Justin mention some interesting stats on the car: 3,000 pounds, 650 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque to name a few. That means that this limited production designer sports car will have a much better power-to-weight ratio than the Viper ACR with which which it shares some DNA. In fact, the Devon's numbers mirror those of the Ferrari Enzo, although the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano was reportedly the actual benchmark for the car. No wonder it has been <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/07/devon-gtx-sets-one-lap-record-at-laguna-seca/">setting production car lap records</a>. <br />
<br />
Our favorite part of the video is when Jay fires the GTX up. We can tell you from firsthand experience that the Devon crew has done a terrific job of making their creation sound as good as it looks and performs, and you can get a taste of that in the video. We'll have a lot more Devon news for you in the near future, but for now, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/23/video-jay-leno-inspects-the-devon-motorworks-gtx/">follow the jump</a> and watch the clip.<br />

<div align="center"><em><strong><small>2010 Jaguar XJ - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br /><span class="headline">The XJ was, for the longest time, the model most commonly associated with the Jaguar brand. Like Porsche's iconic 911, the XJ's basic shape had soldiered on for decades with significant platform changes hidden behind an all-too-familiar face. When Jaguar switched things up by introducing the forward-looking midsize XF a couple of years ago, people started to take notice that it wasn't going to be business-as-usual anymore in Coventry - or Mumbai for that matter. </span>Heritage and tradition were one thing, but Jaguar needed something radical to reclaim its place at the top of the luxury sedan class. Enter the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/xj">2010 XJ</a>, an all-new vehicle with an all-new look that should help Jaguar capture some all-new customers.<br /><br />Borrowing heavily from the XF playbook, the new ultra sedan offers tastefully modern styling with a dash of traditional elegance and a healthy dose of British class. Sure, the tail lamps might look like they were borrowed from a Citroen, but in person this car has genuine presence. It is a large vehicle compared to the previous XJ, but not as big as, say, an S-Class Benz. The proportions remind us of the BMW 7 Series and the new Porsche Panamera.<br /><br />As we've told you from our first encounter with the car a month ago, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/09/2010-jaguar-xj-we-get-hands-on-with-coventrys-new-big-cat/">new 2010 Jaguar XJ</a> will be available in regular or extended wheelbase form, with one of three variations of the company's direct-injected 5.0 liter V8 underhood. The base models get a 385-horsepower normally-aspirated version; the XJ Supercharged gets boosted to 470 hp; and the top-of-the-line Supersport gets the XFR's 510-hp mill. Prices will range from a base of $72,500 to $115,000, making this one dear kitty. No matter the price, it's one striking sedan, and we can't wait to get some seat time soon. Until then, check out our high-res gallery from Pebble Beach below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-live/low/">2010 Jaguar XJ Live</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/jaguarxj---1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/jaguarxj---2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/jaguarxj---3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/jaguarxj---4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/jaguarxj---5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-4/low/">2010 Jaguar XJ</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/jag-xj_launch_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/jaguar-xj_launch_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/jag-xj_launch_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/jag-xj_launch_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/2010jaguarxj_abh004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Live photos from Pebble Beach copyright (C)2009 Frank Filipponio / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/23/monterey-2009-2010-jaguar-xj-has-north-american-debut-at-pebble/">Monterey 2009: 2010 Jaguar XJ has North American debut at Pebble</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 23 Aug 2009 10:14:00 EST. <br /> After selling off the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/14/monterey-2009-nick-alexander-woodie-collection-nets-7-mil/">Nick Alexander Woodie collection on Thursday</a>, RM continued with their Sports &amp; Classics of Monterey auction this past weekend. The sale was highlighted by a 1952 Jaguar C-Type that was originally owned and raced by the late Phil Hill. The legendary driver's son, Derek Hill, drove the car up on stage where bidding immediately passed $1,000,000 on its way to a $2,530,000 final selling price. <br /> <br /> Despite the downward trend of the collector car market, RM managed to sell 85% of the 239 cars it offered last weekend. In addition to the C-Type, several other notable cars found new homes, including a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-rm-sports-and-classics-of-monterey-auction/#32">1955 Aston Martin DB3S</a> that sold for $1,980,000 and a Duesenberg Model SJ Disappearing Top Convertible Coupe with a final sale price of $1,430,000. Some of the no-sales included a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-rm-sports-and-classics-of-monterey-auction/#14">2006 Bugatti Veyron 16.4</a> with a top bid of $900,000, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-rm-sports-and-classics-of-monterey-auction/#16">1938 Talbot Lago T120</a> that went unsold at $950,000, and a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-rm-sports-and-classics-of-monterey-auction/#11">1953 Ferrari 166MM Spider Scaglietti</a> that didn't meet its reserve despite being bid to $1,100,000. You can read more about the auction in RM's press release after the jump.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-rm-sports-and-classics-of-monterey-auction/low/">2009 RM Sports &amp; Classics of Monterey Auction</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-rm-sports-and-classics-of-monterey-auction/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ctyperm_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-rm-sports-and-classics-of-monterey-auction/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ctyperm_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-rm-sports-and-classics-of-monterey-auction/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ctyperm_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-rm-sports-and-classics-of-monterey-auction/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ctyperm_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-rm-sports-and-classics-of-monterey-auction/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ctyperm_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 <a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/">Drew Phillips</a> / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/19/monterey-2009-rm-auctions-sells-1952-jaguar-c-type-for-record/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Monterey 2009: RM Auctions sells 1952 Jaguar C-Type for record $2,530,000</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/19/monterey-2009-rm-auctions-sells-1952-jaguar-c-type-for-record/">Monterey 2009: RM Auctions sells 1952 Jaguar C-Type for record $2,530,000</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 19 Aug 2009 18:41:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Monterey Historic Automobile Races paddock - Click above for high-res image gallery </small></strong></em><br /><br /> </div>
Even though it's essentially run just for fun, the track action at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca can be downright menacing during the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/18/monterey-2009-the-monterey-historic-automobile-races/">Monterey Historic Automobile Races</a>. Just ask the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/17/monterey-2009-ferrari-250-tr-gets-airborn-makes-friends-with-t/">Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa driver</a> who had a severe pucker moment on Saturday. Sure, the cars survived relatively unscathed, but some drivers may probably going to have second thoughts come Monterey 2010.<br /> <br /> Given our current economic and environmental attitudes, it is conceivable (if unlikely) that historic racing might not last far into the next decade. What a pity it would be for vintage racing to go away, but quite honestly, this event could easily continue as nothing more then a classic motorsports car show. The cars themselves certainly draw more than flies - and even at rest, they look so amazingly fast and stylish that simply touring the paddock can be enough entertainment for all but the most jaded fan.<br /> <br /> Just by strolling around the paddock you can see, feel, taste and hear things that will instantly elicit a smile every time the memory rises in your brain. While working our way around the infield on Saturday we came across dozens of cars, bikes, and people that left us in awe... but even so, we still hope that the racing continues, if only for the noise and added visuals. <br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-monterey-historic-automobile-races-paddock-walk/low/">2009 Monterey Historic Automobile Races paddock walk</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-monterey-historic-automobile-races-paddock-walk/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/montereyhistoricspaddock---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-monterey-historic-automobile-races-paddock-walk/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/montereyhistoricspaddock---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-monterey-historic-automobile-races-paddock-walk/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/montereyhistoricspaddock---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-monterey-historic-automobile-races-paddock-walk/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/montereyhistoricspaddock---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-monterey-historic-automobile-races-paddock-walk/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/montereyhistoricspaddock---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 Frank Filipponio / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/19/monterey-2009-vintage-racers-exude-speed-even-at-rest/">Monterey 2009: Vintage racers exude speed even at rest</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 19 Aug 2009 17:40:00 EST. <br /><span class="headline"></span>The 59th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance displayed approximately 200 of the most unique and exquisite automobiles in the world on the 18th hole of the Links at Pebble Beach. Amidst the Bentley and Bugatti, Ferraris and Mercedes-Benz models, there was a special class devoted to a particular design house. That design house was celebrating its 90th anniversary - and despite having some of the world's most incredible designs in its long catalog of coachbuilt specials, it remains a relative unknown to most casual car fans. While many people might be able to recognize the name Pininfarina or Bertone, far fewer know the name Zagato. That's really a shame.<br /><br />Starting with Ugo Zagato way back in the 1910's, son Elio and grandson Andrea have continued the tradition of building some of the most elegant and sporting vehicles on the planet. As part of a special tribute class at Pebble this year, a collection of Zagato-bodied cars was assembled that included customized cars from legendary automakers like AC, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Fiat and Maserati. While all of them have their own charm, we were particularly mesmerized by the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/pebble-beach-2009-zagato/#3">1957 Ferrari 250 GT LWB</a>, 1965 Alfa Romeo TZ2 Zagato Competition Berlinetta (above), and the diminutive <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/pebble-beach-2009-zagato/#5">1949 Fiat Topolino 750MM Zagato Coupe</a>.<br /><br />Check out our high-res gallery below and let us know what your favorite is.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/pebble-beach-2009-zagato/low/">Pebble Beach 2009: Zagato</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/pebble-beach-2009-zagato/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/pebble09zagato---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/pebble-beach-2009-zagato/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/pebble09zagato---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/pebble-beach-2009-zagato/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/pebble09zagato---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/pebble-beach-2009-zagato/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/pebble09zagato---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/pebble-beach-2009-zagato/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/pebble09zagato---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 Frank Filipponio / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/19/monterey-2009-zagato-honored-at-pebble-beach/">Monterey 2009: Zagato honored at Pebble Beach</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 19 Aug 2009 16:20:00 EST. <em><strong><small>Custom coachwork Bugatti Type 57s at the 2009 Pebble Beach Concours - Click above for a high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
At the 59th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Bugatti was allotted two classes: 100 Years of Style and Speed, and a second class devoted solely to the Type 57. Check that, a second class devoted to Type 57 models with special coachwork. As if any Bugatti Type 57 wasn't special enough, back in the day, customers could order an off-the-rack Type 57, or they could opt for a custom coachwork job arranged directly through Bugatti. They offered six different body styles: The Stelvio, Aravis, Galibier, Ventoux, Atalante and Atlantic.<br />
<br />
Those bodies rode on standard chassis or lowered ones labeled with an "S." Customers also had the choice of either the standard naturally aspirated 8-cylinder engine or a supercharged version putting out 210 hp. Supercharged, lowered vehicles were dubbed the 57SC and those were and are the most desirable setup no matter what coachwork it wears. The four 57SC Atlantics built demand the most money, though.<br />
<br />
Think of it like the current situation with the Veyron. You can order a "regular" Veyron 16.4, or you could get one of approximately one dozen special editions instead. After all, wouldn't you want to have a one-of-ten or one-of-one edition instead of a lousy one-of-fifty model? The difference in the Type 57 days was that the bodies completely changed from model to model, whereas the special editions today tend to revolve around paint schemes. It's a lot more like taking an Enzo to Pininfarina and turning it into a Ferrari P4/5, or taking a ZR1 Corvette to Bertone and driving off in a Mantide.<br />
<br />
At Pebble, we were treated to a selection of nine Type 57 Bugattis ranging in year from 1935-1939. There was a bare chassis, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/custom-coachwork-bugatti-type-57s-at-pebble-beach/#11">Bertelli of Feltham Cabriolet</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/custom-coachwork-bugatti-type-57s-at-pebble-beach/#11">Two-Light Ventoux Coupe</a> (l), Graber Cabriolet, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/custom-coachwork-bugatti-type-57s-at-pebble-beach/#18">Paul Nee Pillarless Coupe</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/custom-coachwork-bugatti-type-57s-at-pebble-beach/#7">57SC Atalante Coupe</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/custom-coachwork-bugatti-type-57s-at-pebble-beach/#2">Albert D'Ieteren Cabriolet</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/custom-coachwork-bugatti-type-57s-at-pebble-beach/#3">57C Aravis</a>, and a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/custom-coachwork-bugatti-type-57s-at-pebble-beach/#4">57C Letourneur et Marchand Cabriolet</a> (r). That Atalante took a well-deserved trophy for best in class. Be sure to check out our gallery to see these amazing Bugattis for yourself.<br />

<br /><span class="headline"></span>When car people think of Morgan, they probably picture trikes or think of wooden frames. Perhaps they envision the cross-eyed late-model cars that attempt to update the classic British roadster with aesthetically mixed results. What gets lost in the discussion is the fact that Morgan started out building cars a full century ago. That's right, it has been 100 years since the first Morgan automobile was produced. To honor that centenary accomplishment, there was a special tribute to the boutique automaker at the 59th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. <br /><br />The entrants ranged from a 1909 Morgan 7 hp Runabout to the 2009 Morgan LIFECar Concept. Filling out the class were cars from the '30s, '40s, '50s and '60s. The three-wheeled <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/pebble-beach-2009-morgan/#11">1937 Sports 2 Seater Barrelback</a> and 1947 F-Super Sports 2 Seater (above) represented the old guard three-wheelers, while four +4 models rounded out the group. Highlights included the LeMans-inspired <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/pebble-beach-2009-morgan/#5">SLR</a> (one of three) and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/pebble-beach-2009-morgan/#7">1965 +4 Coupe</a>, which wasn't as successful as hoped for and ended its run with just 26 built. For the first time in its 59 runnings, the 2009 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance hosted a class of motorcycles. With a tip of the hat to the legendary Isle of Man Tourist Trophy races, British bikes were selected for this inaugural class outing.<br />
<br />
Entrants ranged from a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/pebble-beach-2009-vintage-british-motorcycles/#2">1913 Premier 3-1/2 hp 3 speed</a> to a 1957 Manx Norton Featherbed 40M (above). The two Vincents were the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/pebble-beach-2009-vintage-british-motorcycles/#26">1947 Vincent-HRD Series B Rapide Special</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/pebble-beach-2009-vintage-british-motorcycles/#17">1948 Vincent-HRD Black Shadow Special</a>. "Gunga Din" and "Black Lightning," as they are better known, were truly extraordinary. They even had that famous photo of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/pebble-beach-2009-vintage-british-motorcycles/#18">Rollie Free</a> stripped to his bathing suit, lying flat out on the Black Lightning while he set a Bonneville speed record at 150 mph back in 1948! See for yourself in our gallery below.<br />

<br /> Since it was first held way back in 1950, the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance has developed into the world's greatest celebration of classic automobiles. Like they say at the Emmies, it's an honor just to be nominated. That definitely holds true at Pebble as well, as only the most beautiful and rare cars are invited to participate. That's probably why they had competitors coming in from 30 states and 19 different countries, including Hong Kong, Argentina and Australia. Altogether there were about 200 vehicles in 28 classes in this year's field. <br /> <br /> While the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/#98">1937 Horch 853 Voll &amp; Ruhrbeck Sport Cabriolet</a> that won "Best of Show" at the 59th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance seemed far and away the most beautiful car at the event, that didn't keep us from noticing about 200 other incredible vehicles parked around it on the 18th fairway at Pebble on Sunday.<br /> <br /> And Pebble is about way more than just the car show. There are dozens of supporting causes and attractions around the Lodge and Links, with proceeds from the various raffles, auctions, sponsorships and gate receipts generating more than $1 million for charity again this year. One of the most entertaining charity events every year is Jay Leno's stage appearance, where he helps raise money through various live auctions. This year he helped California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger sell his signed bomber jacket for a whopping $30,000.<br /> <br /> The cars at Pebble are grouped in classes, with several featured marques and themes every year. This year there were special displays honoring <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/#2">Bentley</a> (which also had the biggest representation in the field), <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/#46">Zagato</a>, and the centennials of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/#51">Bugatti</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/#20">Audi</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/#41">Morgan</a>. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/#56">Motorcycles</a> were also displayed for the first time this year. The class consisted of British bikes built through 1959. Other highlights were a special gathering of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/#35">Ferrari TR59s</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/#40">166 Barchettas</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/#4">Silver Arrow race cars</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/#42">Stirling Moss race cars</a> to celebrate that legendary driver's 80th birthday, and even a Porsche class that included a 917 and a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/#5">908/03 Spyder owned by comedian Jerry Seinfeld</a>. It was another great year, and we can hardly wait for that third Sunday in August 2010, when Alfa Romeo and Pierce-Arrow will be among the makes honored. Until then, please enjoy our gallery of images from the 59th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.<br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/low/">2009 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/53_pebblebeach09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Bentleys" title="Bentleys" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/30_pebblebeach09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Ferrari TR59s" title="Ferrari TR59s" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/26_pebblebeach09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Auto Union Type D" title="Auto Union Type D" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/69_pebblebeach09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Jerry Seinfeld driving his award-winning Porsche 908/03 Spyder" title="Jerry Seinfeld driving his award-winning Porsche 908/03 Spyder" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/19_pebblebeach09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Bentleys" title="Bentleys" /></a></div><br /> <em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 <a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/">Drew Phillips</a>, Frank Filipponio / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/17/monterey-2009-59th-annual-pebble-beach-concours-delegance/">Monterey 2009: 59th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 17 Aug 2009 14:56:00 EST. <div align="center"><small> <em><strong>1937 Horch 853 Voll &amp; Ruhrbeck Sport Cabriolet - Click above for high-res image gallery</strong></em></small><br /></div>
<br />Another Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and another trophy for Robert M. Lee of Sparks, Nevada. This year the car he used to pick up the hardware was a stunningly turned out 1937 Horch 853 Voll &amp; Ruhrbeck Sport Cabriolet. August Horch had worked with Karl Benz back in the infancy of the automobile before leaving to form his own company, August Horch &amp; Cie in 1899. Ten years later he bolted from his namesake firm to start up Audi. That didn't stop Horch, the company, from continuing to produce incredible motor vehicles.<br /><br />In 1935 they introduced the 850, which featured a 5-liter straight-eight engine. The short wheelbase version was dubbed the 853 and it was a very popular car in its day because of its luxury appointments and competitive pricing. The winning 853 has coachwork by the Berlin coachbuilder, Voll &amp; Ruhrbeck.<br /><br />Lee's Horch just completed a rumored five year restoration and it shows in every nut and bolt. Finished in a glorious silver with acres and acres of chrome, a double continental kit and long sweeping fenders and running boards, it simply had to be the Best of Show. We knew this car was special when we first spotted it Thursday during the Tour d'Elegance, so we have plenty of pics of it to share with all of you. Hope you enjoy it as much as we have.<br /><br />UPDATE: Press release added after the jump.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1937-horch-853-voll-and-ruhrbeck-sport-cabriolet/low/">1937 Horch 853 Voll &amp; Ruhrbeck Sport Cabriolet</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1937-horch-853-voll-and-ruhrbeck-sport-cabriolet/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/01_horchpb09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1937-horch-853-voll-and-ruhrbeck-sport-cabriolet/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/02_horchpb09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1937-horch-853-voll-and-ruhrbeck-sport-cabriolet/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/03_horchpb09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1937-horch-853-voll-and-ruhrbeck-sport-cabriolet/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/04_horchpb09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1937-horch-853-voll-and-ruhrbeck-sport-cabriolet/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/05_horchpb09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 <a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/">Drew Phillips</a> / Weblogs, Inc.<br /></small></strong></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/16/monterey-2009-1937-horch-853-voll-and-ruhrbeck-sport-cabriolet-ta/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Monterey 2009: 1937 Horch 853 Voll &amp; Ruhrbeck Sport Cabriolet takes Pebble Beach Best of Show</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/16/monterey-2009-1937-horch-853-voll-and-ruhrbeck-sport-cabriolet-ta/">Monterey 2009: 1937 Horch 853 Voll &amp; Ruhrbeck Sport Cabriolet takes Pebble Beach Best of Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 16 Aug 2009 20:43:00 EST. <strong><br /></strong>While cars are definitely the conveyance of choice on the track at Laguna Seca during the Monterey Historics, there are enough motorcycles, scooters and mopeds zipping all over the paddock to make you realize that car people can very often be bike people as well. One pair of bikes that really caught our eye were the Ducatis you see above; One in Gulf Racing orange and blue, the other in the classic red and blue stripes on white of Martini &amp; Rossi, better known as Martini Racing. That was the one that really captivated us.<br /><br />Created as a tribute to Porsche, the Ducati 1098 S Martini Racing Bike was built to be displayed alongside the 1971 Martini Porsche 908/3 over the race weekend. This one-off Ducati honors the powerful and highly successful Martini Porsche and Lancia racing machines of the 1960's and 1970's. It looks awesome too, and we wish they would make more. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Monterey Historic Automobile Races personalities - Click above for high-res gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />While at the Monterey Historic Automobile Races this year, it dawned on us that the cars taking to the track are really legends in the Pantheon of autodom. The Porsche 917, Ford GT40, Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, Jaguar D-Type, and Maserati Birdcage are all stars in their fields, but the Historics are about so much more than famous cars. <br /><br />First of all, the cars are being driven, and driven hard. That leads us to important point number two: People are needed to drive (and appreciate) these vehicles in order to make the races as entertaining as they are. Some of those people are famous celebrities from outside the car world, some are car people who aren't necessarily household names, others are automotive giants, and still others are just fans. Granted, some of those fans have deeper knowledge and appreciation of the vehicles than even their owners, but other than that they tend to be ordinary people who pay their taxes just like the rest of us.<br /><br />Among the crowds at Laguna Seca, we spotted folks from each of these groups and captured some of them on film in (hopefully) interesting situations or poses. We've assembled a small gallery of those shots to share with you. Click below and you'll see everyone from Sir Stirling Moss to Mike Joy, Hurley Haywood to Vic Edelbrock. We didn't get any shots of Brian Redman, Jay Leno or David Donohue either, but we know they were there. One star who was definitely there was Patrick Dempsey, who could be seen behind the wheel of a Mazda RX-792, even though he wasn't officially there. He was a really good sport as we continually ran into him around the paddock. He also did a pretty good job of driving that Mazda, but we don't want to get him in any trouble.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-faces-and-names-at-the-historics/low/">Monterey 2009: Faces and Names at The Historics</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-faces-and-names-at-the-historics/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/historicsfaces---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Stirling Moss" title="Stirling Moss" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-faces-and-names-at-the-historics/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/historicsfaces---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Stirling Moss" title="Stirling Moss" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-faces-and-names-at-the-historics/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/historicsfaces---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Derek Bell and Stirling Moss" title="Derek Bell and Stirling Moss" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-faces-and-names-at-the-historics/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/historicsfaces---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Patrick Dempsey" title="Patrick Dempsey" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-faces-and-names-at-the-historics/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/historicsfaces---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Patrick Dempsey" title="Patrick Dempsey" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 Frank Filipponio / Weblogs, Inc.<br /></small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/16/monterey-2009-the-faces-and-names-of-the-monterey-historics/">Monterey 2009: The faces and names of the Monterey Historics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 16 Aug 2009 10:36:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>2010 Devon GTX - Click above for a high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br /> After <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/11/spy-shots-devon-gtx-chasing-the-production-car-ring-record/">speculation</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/04/spy-shots-first-ever-in-the-fiber-shots-of-devon-gtx-supercar-e/">spy shots</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/07/devon-gtx-sets-one-lap-record-at-laguna-seca/">renderings</a>, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2010DevonGTX/">2010 Devon GTX</a> finally made its debut on the 18th hole of Pebble Beach, with the hope of ushering in a new era of American supercar dominance.<br /> <br /> The California-based design studio and upstart automaker created the GTX as an American answer to the ultra-exclusive sports cars hailing from Europe. Housed within the steel structure and carbon fiber body lies an 8.4-liter V10 putting 650 hp (at 6,100 rpm) to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.<br /> <br /> When the GTX goes on sale early next year, the coupe will be available in two flavors - a standard version and a more track-focused variant - each equipped with a fully independent suspension (a real-time damping and ride-height adjustment system will be available in late 2010), obscured by 18x10-inch (front) and 19x13-inch (rear) wheels (19s and 20s are an available upgrade), wrapped in Z-rated Michelin Pilot Sport 2 rubber. Six piston brakes clamp onto 380mm discs in front, while four piston calipers grapple with 355mm rotors in the rear.<br /> <br /> Devon plans to produce 36 cars each year, carrying a price tag of $500,000, with a racing package commanding another $25,000. Get all the details in the press release below the fold, and check out both galleries of the GTX below.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-2010-devon-gtx/low/">Monterey 2009: 2010 Devon GTX</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-2010-devon-gtx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/01-devon-gtx-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="01-devon-gtx-live" title="01-devon-gtx-live" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-2010-devon-gtx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/02-devon-gtx-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="02-devon-gtx-live" title="02-devon-gtx-live" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-2010-devon-gtx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/03-devon-gtx-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="03-devon-gtx-live" title="03-devon-gtx-live" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-2010-devon-gtx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/04-devon-gtx-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="04-devon-gtx-live" title="04-devon-gtx-live" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-2010-devon-gtx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/05-devon-gtx-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="05-devon-gtx-live" title="05-devon-gtx-live" /></a></div><br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-devon-gtx/low/">2010 Devon GTX</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-devon-gtx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/01-2010-devon-gtx-1250381307_thumbnail.jpg" alt="01-2010-devon-gtx-1250381307" title="01-2010-devon-gtx-1250381307" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-devon-gtx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/02-2010-devon-gtx-1250381318_thumbnail.jpg" alt="02-2010-devon-gtx-1250381318" title="02-2010-devon-gtx-1250381318" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-devon-gtx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/03-2010-devon-gtx-1250381329_thumbnail.jpg" alt="03-2010-devon-gtx-1250381329" title="03-2010-devon-gtx-1250381329" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-devon-gtx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/04-2010-devon-gtx-1250381341_thumbnail.jpg" alt="04-2010-devon-gtx-1250381341" title="04-2010-devon-gtx-1250381341" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-devon-gtx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/05-2010-devon-gtx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="05-2010-devon-gtx" title="05-2010-devon-gtx" /></a></div><br /><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/15/monterey-2009-2010-devon-gtx/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Monterey 2009: 2010 Devon GTX </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/15/monterey-2009-2010-devon-gtx/">Monterey 2009: 2010 Devon GTX </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 15 Aug 2009 20:51:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>Spkyer C8 Aileron Spyder - Click above for a high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br /> Spyker deals in the ultimate four-wheeled fashion accessories, so it's fitting that the automaker debuted its next-generation droptop - the C8 Aileron Spyder - to the primped and bedazzled throngs in Monterey.<br /> <br /> Based off the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/04/geneva-2009-spyker-c8-aileron-gets-a-longer-fuselage/">all-new Aileron</a> that debuted at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/GenevaMotorShow/">Geneva Motor Show</a> earlier this year (replacing the original C8 after a successful nine-year run), the Spyder version stays true to its predecessor with a frameless windshield and a flowing profile that doesn't disrupt the more angular, aircraft-inspired theme of the coupe.<br /> <br /> Ahead of the CNC-machined aluminum luggage rack and integrated roll-bars, a tonneau cover houses a soft-top (available in eight colors) and glass window that's deployed using an electric/hydraulic system and latched with a single mechanism.<br /> <br /> Like the original C8, Spyker developed the Aileron to be a convertible from the onset, so little if any modifications have been made to ready the Spyder for drop-top duty. The chassis carries over unchanged, as does the drivetrain - an Audi-sourced 400+ hp 4.2-liter with a choice of either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox (with paddle shifters) - along with the massive AP brakes and 19-inch Aeroblade wheels. And if the inside of the Aileron wasn't enough of a masterpiece to begin with, Spyker has teamed up with ultra-high-end stereo purveyors Kharma to offer a new infotainment system that will add another level of excess to the already excessive interior. Expect sales to begin later this, with around 50 percent of all Spyders winding up on U.S. shores.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder/low/">Monterey 2009: Spyker C8 Aileron Spyder</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/01-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="01-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live" title="01-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/02-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="02-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live" title="02-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/03-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="03-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live" title="03-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/04-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="04-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live" title="04-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/05-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="05-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live" title="05-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder-live" /></a></div><br /> <strong><em><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Damon Lavrinc / Weblogs, Inc. and </small></em></strong><em><strong><small>Stefan Ammerlaan/Spyker Cars</small></strong></em> <strong><em><small> </small></em></strong><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/15/monterey-2009-spyker-c8-aileron-spyder/">Monterey 2009: Spyker C8 Aileron Spyder debuts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 15 Aug 2009 19:25:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><small style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Confederate P120 Fighter - Click above for high-res gallery</small><br /></div>
<p>Way back in 1991, Matt Chambers started Confederate Motor Company, intending "to create machines utilizing a holistic, avant-garde process for celebrating the art of rebellion." Seven years ago, Confederate Motors scared the Hellcat out of the motorcycle-riding public. Five years ago, they wowed the biking world with a Terminator-like two-wheel contraption they dubbed the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/31/confederate-wraith-debuts-at-bike-week-in-daytona/">Wraith</a>. Yesterday in Monterey, the company unleashed its latest challenger to the conventions of two-wheeled conveyance, the Confederate P120 Fighter.<br /></p>
The Fighter uses a massive 120-cubic-inch motor (1966cc) that provides 160 hp and 145 foot-pounds of torque. It's mounted in a lightweight aluminum frame, and promises nimble handling and a no-compromise riding experience. Should be a helluva performer, plus it looks like a 22nd century mount for an apocalyptic rider, which is probably worth as much as the performance to most would-be buyers. Many of the people who saw it unveiled at the Quail Lodge today couldn't believe it was actually a production vehicle. Most assumed it was some kind of Hollywood prop, but trust us when we say it's the real deal. Check out our gallery featuring Wraiths and a pair of fighters below, and the full press release after the jump. <br /> <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/confederate-p120-fighter/low/">Confederate P120 Fighter and Wraith</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/confederate-p120-fighter/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/confederatemotors---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Fighter" title="Fighter" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/confederate-p120-fighter/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/confederatemotors---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Fighter" title="Fighter" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/confederate-p120-fighter/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/confederatemotors---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Fighter" title="Fighter" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/confederate-p120-fighter/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/confederatemotors---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Fighter" title="Fighter" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/confederate-p120-fighter/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/confederatemotors---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Fighter" title="Fighter" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Frank Filipponio / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.confederate.com/confederate3/company.php">Confederate Motors</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/15/monterey-2009-confederate-motors-debuts-p120-fighter-at-quail/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Monterey 2009: Confederate Motors debuts P120 Fighter at Quail</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/15/monterey-2009-confederate-motors-debuts-p120-fighter-at-quail/">Monterey 2009: Confederate Motors debuts P120 Fighter at Quail</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 15 Aug 2009 16:33:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><small style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Bonhams at the Quail 2009 - The Auto Union didn't sell</small></div>
<br />
The Bonhams Auction at the Quail in Monterey was expected to bring some of the biggest auction numbers of the week. It did end up bringing some large figures, but mainly in the number of unsold headlining cars. We were eagerly anticipating the bidding on the Auto Union Type D, the ex-<span class="text">Evel Knievel Ferrari Daytona Spider, The ZL-1 Camaro, and the </span><span class="text">1937 Bugatti Type 57S Coup&eacute; among others. None sold. </span>The Auto Union bidding stalled at $6 mil, while the featured Bugatti hesitated long enough at $5.2 mil that it also went unsold. Altogether, 45 lots didn't sell. What did sell did reasonably well though.<br />
<br />
There's a full list of results after the jump, but the top seller was the The ex-William Boyd "Hopalong Cassidy", unique coachwork,1933 Duesenberg Model J Torpedo Convertible Victoria that went out the door for $1,437,000. Other notable sales included a trio of cars that went at $804,500 each: the 1952 Ferrari 212 Inter Vignale Coupe "Bumblebee," an ex-Otis Chandler,1961 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster, and a 1931 Bentley 4&amp;frac12; Liter 'Birkin Style' Tourer with original Supercharger. Other favorites were the <span class="text">1975 BMW 3.0 CSL 'Batmobile' that sold for $150,000, </span>the <span class="text">1981 BMW M1 that went for $147,800, and the </span>pristine <span class="text">1987 Buick GNX that brought $70</span>,200.<br />

<br />
</small></strong></em></em></div>
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/monterey2009">Monterey coverage</a> continues unabated, with today's posts highlighting three different events: Quail: A Motorsports Gathering, La Dolce Vita, and Concorso Italiano. While <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/15/monterey-2009-the-quail-a-motorsports-gathering/">Quail</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/15/monterey-2009-innaugural-la-dolce-vita-show/">La Dolce Vita</a> have already been covered, here we're focusing on the Italians. Concorso Italiano has been one of Monterey's largest gatherings of Italian vehicles for many years, but last year's move to a municipal airport almost killed the event dead.<br />
<br />
Previously held at the nearby Bayonet Black Horse Golf Course in Monterey Bay, Concorso had to relocate due to some course reconstruction in 2008. This year the show went back to the links, but Laguna Seca Golf Ranch was the lucky host rather than Black Horse. Though the location was different, the show was much the same as we had come to expect from years past. Just like the past 20-something years, the event drew some stunning examples of Italy's finest.<br />
<br />
Special gatherings honored the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#7">Ferrari 288 GTO</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#10">Alfa Romeo BAT</a> cars, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#28">Ducati</a> and Iso. There were also the usual huge clusters of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#30">De Tomaso</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#19">Alfa Romeo</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#24">Fiat</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#27">Lancia</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#17">Maserati</a> and "<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#32">Honorary Italian</a>" vehicles. Oh, and there were also a few <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#36">Lamborghinis</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#2">Ferraris</a>. Something on the order of 200 of each it seemed. Personal favorites included the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#46">Ferrari 512 race car</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#9">lime-green Dino</a>, ultra-rare <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#12">288 GTO Evoluzione</a>, white <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#4">Scuderia</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#49">Lamborghini LMA</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#18">1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS</a>, and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/full/#11">Gilda</a> turbine car that will be auctioned at Gooding on Sunday. It was also great to see <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#29">Tesla</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#25">Fisker</a> and newcomer <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-concorso-italiano/#30">SV Motors</a> represented. Check out the gallery and you'll see why this has become one of the biggest events in the world for lovers of Italian machinery.<br />

When the usually reliable Concorso Italiano megashow hit a small speed bump last year, a few enterprising souls saw an opportunity for an alternate event that would capture the spirit of the original Concorso and appeal to those who might like a return to a simpler, more intimate show. La Dolce Vita was born and it found a home right away, at the very same Bayonet Black Horse Golf Course Concorso left two years ago. <br /> <br /> While the number of vehicles displayed was tiny, the show definitely put an emphasis on quality over quantity. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/#6">Alfa Romeo</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/#27">Lamborghini</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/#4">Maserati</a> were particularly well represented, with one of the largest and most diverse <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/#3">Diablo collections</a> we've ever seen honoring Ferruccio's finest notably well. Other highlights included an incredibly whimsical <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/#39">Hudson</a> that was actually underpinned by the very same Hudson pickup that Henry Fonda drove in the movie adaptation of the Steinbeck classic <em>The Grapes of Wrath</em>.<br /><br />A very special <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/#8">Alfa Romeo 1900 Primavera</a>, the sole surviving <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/#7">Martini Bertone Ritmo 100tS</a>, an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/#34">1899 Peugeot Trike</a>, an impressive cluster of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/#5">Citroen Traction Avants</a>, and a handful of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/#12">pre-war Lancias</a> really won us over. Check out the gallery and you'll see why this fledgling show seems to have what it takes to earn a permanent spot on our ever-growing list of must-attend events here in Monterey.<br /> <br /><br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/low/">2009 La Dolce Vita show</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ladolcevita---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="La Dolce Lambos" title="La Dolce Lambos" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ladolcevita---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Diablo parade" title="Diablo parade" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ladolcevita---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Maserati Bora, Merak and Khamsin" title="Maserati Bora, Merak and Khamsin" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ladolcevita---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Citroen Traction Avant" title="Citroen Traction Avant" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-la-dolce-vita-show/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ladolcevita---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Alfa GTs" title="Alfa GTs" /></a></div><br /> <em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 Frank Filipponio / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/15/monterey-2009-innaugural-la-dolce-vita-show/">Monterey 2009: Innaugural La Dolce Vita show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 15 Aug 2009 14:27:00 EST. <br />
How many special edition Bugatti Veyrons are there? There's the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/12/frankfurt-2007-the-shiny-invisible-bugatti-pur-sang/">Pur Sang</a>, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/03/geneva-2009-bleu-centenaire-is-every-bit-as-special-as-any-othe/">Bleu Centenaire</a>, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/04/another-bloody-veyron-presenting-the-sang-noir/">Sang Noir</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/04/geneva-2008-bugatti-veyron-fbg-by-hermes-scepter-and-empire-no/">Fbg by Hermes</a>, not to mention the countless examples that have either been <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/02/the-midas-touch-gold-plated-bugatti-veyron-delivered-to-middle/">painted gold</a> or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/19/mansory-builds-mysterious-bugatti-veyron-vincero/">chrome</a> by bored sheiks who've spent too much time in the sun. The targa-fied Veyron, otherwise known as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/first-drive-bugatti-veyron-16-4-grand-sport-is-a-temple-of-zen/">Grand Sport</a>, has been around a lot less time than its closed roof counterpart, but it's about time the open roof Bug got a special edition of its own. Enter the Grand Sport "Sang Bleu" that's being unveiled by Bugatti this weekend in Monterey. <br />
<br />
The "Sang Bleu" is set off by its unique two-tone color combination that isn't the result of opening a couple new cans of paint back at the Bugatti factory in Molsheim, France, but rather combining two materials: carbon fiber and aluminum. The shiny parts are, of course, the al-yoo-mini-um of which we spoke, but the royal blue you see is a specially tinted carbon fiber. The only other differences between the "Sang Bleu" and a normal Grand Sport are that the rear airscoops are also body color, and the wheels are a unique design with a Midnight Blue and Diamond Cut finish. <br />
<br />
Only 20 standard Grand Sports have been ordered and far less actually delivered, so the "Sang Bleu" stands as the rarest Veyron of them all right now. There's only one and Bugatti doesn't mention anything about it going into limited production, but considering the brand's penchant for making special editions, we expect the "Sang Bleu" will be available for anyone with anyone with a couple million bucks to trade.<br />

Looks like the economy might be doing okay after all. The massive <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/12/woodie-collection-to-kick-off-monterey-auctions-on-thursday/">Nick Alexander Woodie Collection</a> brought a combined $7 million to kick off the week's auctions in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/monterey2009">Monterey</a>. One of the most extensive collections of Ford and Mercury Woodies in the world, Alexander's collection was auctioned off by RM Auctions on Thursday night in Monterey. Top seller was a gorgeous <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/nick-alexander-woodie-collection/#25">1946 Mercury Sportsman Convertible</a> (above) that went across the block and sold at $368,500.<br />
<br />
Other highlights included a super rare <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/nick-alexander-woodie-collection/#32">1948 Ford Super Deluxe Sportsman Convertible</a> that went for "just" $275,000, and an awesome, all-wheel-drive <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/nick-alexander-woodie-collection/#24">1946 Ford Super Deluxe Station Wagon</a> that brought $247,500. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will be going to support the Midland School in Santa Barbara, California. There's a full press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/14/monterey-2009-nick-alexander-woodie-collection-nets-7-mil/">after the jump</a> and full results at the RM website.<br />
