<br />
A few images of what looks to be the production <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/918+spyder/">Porsche 918 Spyder</a> are here to say hello, courtesy of a patent office in China. If these provide an accurate look at what the hybrid supercar will look like, there are a few differences between it and the latest examples of the pre-production prototypes our spy shooters have seen.<br />
<br />
The jerry-rigged turn signals inside the headlight enclosures and on the front fenders on the prototype are replaced with more polished units inside the headlamps located underneath the main beams. Behind that, the door handles have been swapped from horizontal latches on the door to vertical openings located just behind the door shutline.<br />
<br />
We've also seen a Martini-liveried version of the 918 Spyder that has extra carbon elements that don't appear on this car. It <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/07/18/porsche-918-spyder-prototype-looks-sensational-in-martini-livery/">was at the N&uuml;rburgring</a> with carbon lips on the front fenders and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2014-porsche-918-spyder-first-ride/full/#photo-5326075">another carbon element</a> that hung from the rear fenders and ran down to the rear diffuser. When we saw the car on our <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/01/2014-porsche-918-spyder-deep-dive-review/">Deep Dive piece</a>, the front lips were gone but that rear piece remained, and we can't tell from <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/19/porsche-918-spyder-brochure-leaks-onto-web-w-video/">the brochure</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/25/unofficial-porsche-918-spyder-pricing-pops-up-on-web/">options sheet</a> that we've seen so far what it comes with. The wheels from the concept and the green brake calipers, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/01/24/report-porsche-918-road-car-will-be-the-spyder/">minus the polycarbonate covers</a>, should be the standard fitment while the ten-spoke magnesium wheels will be a 29,750-euro (about $39,000 US) option.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/26/production-porsche-918-spyder-images-leak-out-of-chinese-patent/">Production Porsche 918 Spyder images leak out of Chinese patent office</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 26 Dec 2012 11:25:00 EST. <br />
There are luxury automakers, there are mainstream automakers, and then there are those in between. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volvo">Volvo</a>, we'd argue, is one of those marques that doesn't quite compete in the same market as, say, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mercedes-benz">Mercedes-Benz</a> or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/lexus">Lexus</a>, but that looks as if it's about to change.<br />
<br />
The Swedish automaker has been toying for years with the idea of building a new flagship to take on the likes of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mercedes-benz/s-class">Mercedes-Benz S-Class</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/7+series">BMW 7 Series</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/audi/a8">Audi A8</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/lexus/ls/">Lexus LS</a>, but while Volvo has dragged its feet on the prospect in the past, a series of what look like patent renderings that have leaked their way online give us what could prove the strongest indication yet of Volvo's intent.<br />
<br />
For better or worse, the renderings bear the hallmark of recent Volvo designs like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/19/volvo-concept-universe-previews-next-range-topping-sedan-from-sw/">Concept Universe</a> (unveiled in Shanghai last year), the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/13/concept-you-is-the-new-face-of-volvo-luxury/">Concept You</a> (showcased in Frankfurt) and the upcoming next-generation XC90 - complete with the gaping maw that seems to mock the face we make when we look at these examples of this particular styling direction.<br />
<br />
Of course, given the big wheels, showcar grille, delicate mirrors and suicide rear doors (not to mention the overall form), it seems more likely we're looking at renderings for the Concept Universe rather than a production model in the making, but that just leaves us wondering what the patent filing is for. We'll just have to wait a while to find out one way or another.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/07/are-these-the-patent-filings-for-volvos-s-class-fighting-s100-f/">Are these the patent filings for Volvo's S-Class-fighting S100 flagship?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 07 Feb 2012 18:01:00 EST. <br />It's no great secret that the European Union's patent office has more leaks than a Soviet submarine, but up until now it's only been small cars that have been able to trickle out (see: the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/13/eu-patent-office-leaks-2009-mazda-mx-5-facelift/">facelifted Mazda MX-5</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/leaked-nissan-370z-roadster-patent-drawings/">Nissan 370Z Roadster</a>). But the dam seems to be giving way as a whole Mercedes limousine has managed to squeeze though and into the public realm, and our European compatriots at Autoblog Spanish have got the sketches to prove it.<br /><br />Like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/13/thats-a-stretch-mercedes-e-class-limo-spied/">spy shots we've seen before</a>, these patent sketches provide further proof that Mercedes is preparing to launch a stretched Pullman version of its new E-Class. Several extension options are apparently being prepared, ranging from a modest wheelbase extension all the way up to a full extra set of doors. Expect all manner of luxury equipment to find its way into the enlarged cabin, from entertainment systems and courtesy lighting to power reclining seats and fold-down picnic tables for that ultimate Grey Poupon experience. <em>Click the thumbnails below to view the patent drawings in high resolution.</em><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://es.autoblog.com/photos/filtraci-n-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-gen-ticos-con-el-clase-e">Mercedes-Benz Clase E Pullman (OAMI)</a></strong></p><a href="http://es.autoblog.com/photos/filtraci-n-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-gen-ticos-con-el-clase-e/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/es.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/clase_e_limu__filt_00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://es.autoblog.com/photos/filtraci-n-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-gen-ticos-con-el-clase-e/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/es.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/clase_e_limu__filt_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://es.autoblog.com/photos/filtraci-n-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-gen-ticos-con-el-clase-e/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/es.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/clase_e_limu__filt_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://es.autoblog.com/photos/filtraci-n-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-gen-ticos-con-el-clase-e/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/es.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/clase_e_limu__filt_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://es.autoblog.com/photos/filtraci-n-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-gen-ticos-con-el-clase-e/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/es.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/clase_e_limu__filt_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://es.autoblog.com/2009/04/30/filtracion-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-geneticos-con-el-clase-e/">Autoblog Spanish</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/04/mercedes-benz-e-class-pullman-drawings-leak-from-european-patent/">Mercedes-Benz E-Class Pullman drawings leak from European patent office</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 04 May 2009 09:27:00 EST.
