Over the past few years we've seen automakers start to offer in-car apps, similar to what consumers have come to expect from their smartphones. Toyota added popular services such as Pandora, OpenTable, MovieTickets.com and Bing Search to their cars via Entune. BMW, Mercedes and many other carmakers are quickly growing their library of apps as well, and a new study suggests why.
November 3, 2011 marks the 100th birthday of Chevrolet, and as part of the celebration, General Motors has teamed up with Pandora to create a special Chevy 100 station. The Pandora team has picked out the top 100 songs that mention the brand Chevrolet, including "American Pie" by Don McLean, "Crocodile Rock" by Elton John and – of course – Prince's "Little Red Corvette." For customized music lovers out there who hate the burden of flipping through their iPods on the road (or, God forbid, turning the radio dial), BMW has quite the mellifluous news. The car company's North American outfit announced last Thursday that its BMW ConnectedDrive system is now fully compatible with the free Pandora internet radio iPhone app, the first third party app approved for the new BMW Apps feature (available for download here).
