It turns out that after toting a 7:08 time around the fearsome Nürburgring Nordschleife for the new Nismo-tuned GT-R, Nissan might not have been entirely honest about the car it was using. From what we've been hearing from a few different publications, the GT-R featured in the video isn't what we're going to see on the production model.
Sabine has been dethroned. The Queen of the Ring, Sabine Schmitz, was finally bested in a Larea GT1 S9 Evo track car on her home track, the Nürburgring Nordschleife, by her friend and fellow Ring instructor Ron Simons. The two have taken part in two other contests, with the first running on the Ring and the second on a soggy Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Naturally, you can view those videos, courtesy of RSRNurburgring, without leaving the cozy confines of Autoblog.
"Pics or it didn't happen!" You could almost hear the Internet shouting this when news started to trickle in about a sub-seven-minute Nürburgring lap by the new Porsche 918 Spyder. Well, after an official press release, which we ran earlier today, we have your "pics." Moving pics, to be more exact. Porsche has released on-board footage of the 6:57 lap.
