It's been a little over a year since <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/ferrari/">Ferrari</a> released the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/california">California</a>. It was Maranello's first front-engined V8, bearing its first dual-clutch transmission, its first folding hard-top, and its first standard fitment of carbon-ceramic brakes. Unfortunately Ferrari found public reception to the convertible's styling rather cold, and although we found it looked much better <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/31/first-drive-ferrari-california-in-sicily/">drenched in soft Sicilian sunlight</a> than it does it photos, not everyone's a fan.<br />
<br />
Fortunately there's an elite cadre of Ferrari tuners eager to spruce up Maranello's finest - as well as their more controversial designs. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/21/ferrari-california-the-latest-object-of-hamanns-tuning-affectio/">Hamann</a>'s one, and they've taken their shot at the California already. So has <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/17/ferrari-california-receives-500-hp-attitude-adjustment-at-the-ha/">Edo Competition</a>. Now it's Novitec Rosso's turn.<br />
<br />
The Dutch tuning garage has just released a full array of modifications for the 2+ cabrio, starting with a revised ECU for a modest 40 horsepower bump to 500 even. A sport suspension drops the ride height by 35 millimeters, but it can be raised up front by as much as 40 mm to clear curbs and speed bumps. Outside, Novitec's fitted a carbon fiber aero kit with front lip spoiler, side skirts, revised diffuser and a little rear wing, along with modular rims measuring 21 inches up front and 22 in the rear, shod with Pirelli rubber.<br />
<br />
While opinions remain divided as to the sacriligiosity of tuning a Ferrari, in the California's case it could be - to some eyes anyway - just what the doctor ordered. Details in the press release after the jump and photos in the high-res gallery below.<br />

The Ferrari 430 Scuderia is already one of the hottest-performing supercars on the market, but some people just don't know how to leave well enough alone. Some of those people work at Ferrari, who've worked tirelessly on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/458Italia/">458 Italia</a> to supplant the 430's already legendary performance. And some of those people work for Novitec Rosso, who've come back <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/27/raging-bulls-beware-novitec-unleashes-717-hp-f430-scuderia/">yet again</a> with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/30/novitec-unveils-twin-supercharged-ferrari-scuderia-spider-16m/">another mod job</a> for the Italian stallion.<br />
<br />
Called the Edizione 747, the custom Scuderia may not be as big as a jumbo jet, but it packs nearly as much thrust. Strapping a pair of superchargers to that high-revving 4.3-liter V8, along with a few more tweaks here and there, brings output up from an impressive 510 horses to a bonkers 747 horsepower. Intercoolers and revised aerodynamic cooling keep the engine running cool. Twenty-inch NF3 rims wear Michelin Pilot Sport Cup rubber mounted to sport springs that drop the ride height by a further 30 milimeters, available with an adjustable front end that can lift 40 mm to clear curbs and speed bumps at the touch of a button. Novitec's also decked out this particular example with a two-tone yellow and matte black paint scheme, and given the interior a few mods to complete the package. <br />
<br />
Novitec says the 747 is capable of reaching 218 MPH, about 20 more than stock, and hitting 62 MPH in 3.4 seconds - only a touch quicker than stock, which just goes to show there's a limit to what even steamroller rear tires can handle. Novitec will only be making three examples, which just may be enough to keep a few moneyed speed freaks busy until the new 458 Italia comes around, and then it starts all over again.<br />

Everything in moderation. Not exactly the kind of message you'd expect from a firm like Novitec Rosso. The Dutch tuning house made its reputation taking some of the most powerful road rockets known to man and tuning them even further. In the case of the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano - widely acclaimed as one of the best driver's cars on the road - Novitec released a modified version packing <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/05/novitec-squeezes-808-hp-from-twin-superchargerd-ferrari-599/">twin superchargers for an astounding 808 horsepower</a> last November. But in light of that being perhaps a bit too much machine for even Novitec's speed-crazed clientele, the tuner has now released a somewhat more reserved package for the V12 super-GT. <br />
<br />
By tuning the engine management and fitting a new exhaust system, Novitec has squeezed an extra forty horses out of the Prancing Stallion for a total output of 660 horsepower. The exhaust has quad 90mm tips protruding from the rear diffuser and their pitch is controllable from the steering wheel-mounted Manettino switch. The adjustable suspension can be raised from inside the cockpit to clear curbs, and Novitec has fitted three-piece modular wheels - 20 inches up front and 21 in the rear. There's a full custom lighting kit, plus plenty of bespoke options for the interior.<br />
<br />
As you can see, Novitec also offers a full range of aerodynamic enhancements, including a new lip spoiler up front, new wing around back and custom rocker panels along the sides, all available either color-keyed or in varnished carbon fiber. <br />We're unsure about the logic behind messing with one of Ferrari's amazing creations, let alone a limited edition model like the Scuderia Spider 16M. But German tuning company Novitec Rosso has no qualms about putting their own creative mark on the cars from Maranello. Their most recent creation is this twin-supercharged Scuderia Spider 16M that puts out 696 horsepower at 8400 rpm and 503 lb-ft torque at 6300 rpm. Capable of hitting 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and topping 205 mph, it's easily one of the fastest convertibles in the world. The Italian drop top also gets larger wheels and tires, sport springs with a hydraulic lift system, black taillights, side markers and reflectors, a leather/carbon fiber steering wheel, and carbon fiber shift paddles. <br />Alfa Romeo's spritely MiTo hatch may have been styled to look like the flagship 8C Competizione, but the performance gap between them is big enough to fit another entire model line. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/03/geneva-2009-alfa-romeo-mito-gta-concept/">MiTo GTA, previewed in concept form at this year's Geneva show</a>, promises to close the distance some, but until it arrives, Novitec has come up with an answer of its own, and here it is. <br /><br />The heart of any good mod job lies under the hood, and Novitec has plenty of options in store. For the gas-burning 1.4-liter turbo four, Novitec offers an auxiliary control module that can be installed in just five minutes and which adds an extra 31 horsepower to bring total output up to a respectable 186 and 0-60 time down to 7.4 seconds, or 0.7 seconds faster than stock. <br /><br />For diesel models, Novitec also offers a module to boost power by about 20 horsepower on either the 1.3 or 1.6-liter JTD engines. Of course, the Dutch tuning house hasn't stopped there, offering a choice of sport springs to drop the height by 40mm or a fully adjustable coil-over set-up. <br />The Ferrari F430 is on its way out, making way for its replacement tipped to debut at the Frankfurt show. Ferrari itself is saying goodbye with a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/13/ferrari-to-auction-off-special-f430-for-abruzzo-earthquake-relie/">special edition to be auctioned off for charity</a>, but a pair of German firms has collaborated to send off the F430 in its own unique brand of style. A joint effort by a company called Unique Sportscars and the Novitec Rosso tuning house we've come to know for its turbo- and supercharged Prancing Horses, the F430 Calavera seems to answer questions nobody was asking, namely, what would a Ferrari look like if it spent too much time on Venice Beach? Well here you have it. <br /><br />The Calavera is characterized by a (thankfully) unique tattoo-style paint job by airbrush artist Knud Tiroch. From there, Novitec has given the F430 its full workover, complete with twin superchargers to deliver 707 horsepower - more than Novitec's own 656hp <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/18/white-fang-novitecs-656-hp-f430-evoluzione/">F430 Evoluzione</a>, and about par with its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/14/frankfurt-2007-novitec-ferrari-f430-tunero/">TuNero</a> version - plus the requisite 20" wheels and an adjustable suspension. Unique and Novitec have also modified the interior and added a strip of daytime running lights along the front splitter, integrating into the Novitec body kit. All the mods help the custom exotic hit sixty in 3.5 seconds en route to a claimed top speed of 216 mph. Unique Sportscars says they'll only build 11 examples, and with no accounting for taste, it's anyone's guess whether they'll sell that many. <br />Some people believe in tuning exotics, some prefer to leave them alone. But everybody's got to respect Novitec. The German tuning house, now celebrating its 20th anniversary, is one of the established names in tuning Italian exotica. The company's Novitec Rosso line is known for strapping superchargers to Ferraris to delirious effect, but a couple of years ago they turned out a decidedly low-key <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/03/extreme-restraint-novitec-tunes-the-maserati-quattroporte/">modification to the Maserati Quattroporte</a>. Now the Novitec Tridente line is back at work on the GranTurismo S, producing the supercharged super-coupe you see here.<br /><br />By adding a supercharger, tinkering with the ECU and replacing the exhaust system, Novitec has managed to coax out an extra 165 horsepower from the Ferrari-sourced 4.7-liter V8 for a whopping 600 ponies. Managing all that extra power is a retuned KW suspension gripping massing 20 and 21 inch wheels front and back, which team up with the carbon fiber body kit to add even more aggression to one of the industry's meanest-looking GTs. <br />Novitec has long been regarded for their ability to produce streetable tuner Ferrari models with massive power and generally well-integrated aesthetic and aerodynamic modifications. And while this car, the Novitec TuLesto that see before you clearly has a lot of Ferrari 430 in it, this is a far more ambitious piece than what has come before it. Built in Bavaria by the German tuner, this mid-engined supercar is something of a celebratory affair, designed to mark the company's 20th anniversary. <br /><br />Just 11 examples are planned, each brandishing 777 horsepower - enough to push the slippery carbon-fiber and aluminum shape to 60 mph in 3.4 ticks before topping out at more than 350 kmh (217 mph). Power comes from a 4.4-liter four-valve V8 (.10-liter larger than that of Ferrari's 430) with a pair of superchargers strapped on to yield the aforementioned 777 hp (at 8,200 rpm), along with a peak torque figure of 536 pound-feet at 6,300 rpm. The sole transmission choice is a six-speed semi-automatic paddleshift setup.<br /><br />While probably a trackday monster, there is some streetability to the TuLesto, as well. The Luca Serafini Stile-designed front-end can be lifted four inches to accommodate speed bumps and aprons without incurring expensive scraping noise. Perhaps at full height you'll get a better look at the fully tweakable double-wishbone suspension, which includes adjustable dampers and swaybars.<br /><br />The available 20- or 21-inch wheels are sinister-looking Novitec pieces that strike us as a bit Lamborghini-inspired, not necessarily a bad thing, and they house a set of ceramic composite brakes hatted by six-piston fixed calipers. <br /><br />Funnily enough, our 20th celebrations weren't nearly as interesting as this. <p>While America's top tuners make the scene in Las Vegas for this year's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/SEMA/">SEMA</a> show, aftermarket firms across the pond  are still moving ahead at full steam. Case in point, Novitec Rosso's latest take on the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. The V12 supercar is already one of the fastest and most capable on the market, but the Dutch tuning wizards at Novitec saw fit to strap on a supercharger. Or two. The result? An astonishing 808 horsepower and a stated 823 Nm of torque (equivalent to 607 lb-ft by American standards). <br /></p>
<p>For that much power, Novitec is quoting a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) run of 3.5 seconds with a top speed in excess of 340 km/h (211 mph). But if you're wondering why an extra 188 horsepower has had such a marginal effect on the "stock" Fiorano's acceleration, consider that Ferrari spent a lot of time perfecting the existing car's performance with the considerable output it already has. But if raw power and top end are what you seek, Novitec's engine enhancements will run you nearly 47,000 euros.</p>
<p>Of course, Novitec is also offering a brake upgrade kit to keep the added power in check, along with three-piece 21-inch rims and an optimized aero kit along with various interior trim options. <p>Is it wrong to mess with perfection? We don't know if we would dare to change even a single nut or bolt on the F430 Scuderia if we happened to have one in the garage, but Novitec Rosso seems to have no problem with it. Granted, they have plenty of experience laying their hands on the F430; in addition to their <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/05/30/novitec-rossos-twin-supercharger-ferrari-f430/">standard version</a>, they've also built <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/06/novitec-rosso-f430-race-gets-in-your-face/">RACE</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/14/frankfurt-2007-novitec-ferrari-f430-tunero/">TuNero</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/18/white-fang-novitecs-656-hp-f430-evoluzione/">Evoluzione</a> variations. For the Scuderia they've added their twin-supercharger package good for 717 horsepower and a top speed of just over 215 mph. Considering the standard F430 Scuderia can lap Ferrari's Fiorano test track faster than the Enzo, we'd imagine this car would be insanely quick.</p>

Novitec's specialty is both bringing the punchbowl to the party and then spiking it. Sure, the tuner tweaks the likes of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/19/sharp-gets-sharper-novitec-alfa-romeo-159/">Alfa</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/06/novitec-rosso-f430-race-gets-in-your-face/">Ferrari</a>, but the everyman isn't left out either, as evidenced by the new collection of mods it's now made available for the Fiat 500. <br /><br />500 drivers can add a subtle front chin spoiler, new wheels and tires, and suspension updates to improve the car's already appealing looks. On the performance side, Novitec has come up with an exhaust upgrade and a pair of power packages. The 1.3L Multijet turbodiesel gets bumped from the stock 70 horses to a stouter 83, and the 1.4L gasoline engine gets an even more substantial boost. In standard form, it makes 100 horsepower and 96 lb-ft of torque. <p>If <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/18/white-fang-novitecs-656-hp-f430-evoluzione/">Novitec's mods to the sublime Ferrari F430</a> struck you as overkill, you might want to take a look at another one of its creations, focusing on a car ever-so-slightly more in need of the tuning house's attention. </p>
<p>The Alfa Romeo 159 is hailed as one of the most beautiful automobiles on the road today, but critics lament its shortcomings in performance. Autodelta, the premier tuning house for Alfas, offers an array of enhancements, but Novitec's catalogue offers what looks to be a compelling alternative. By installing its Powerrail III engine control system, Novitec coaxes an extra 29 horsepower out of the 159's common-rail diesel engine, bringing total output up to a very respectable 229 hp, aided by a custom stainless steel exhaust system. The German tuning outfit also offers a full aerodynamic package including front spoiler, side skirts and rear spoiler, as well as a sport suspension adjustable in stiffness and in height from 35mm to 75mm. Rounding out the package are Novitec's Type N9 20-inch forged alloys skinned with 30-series Pirelli rubber.</p>
<p>In transforming the sumptuous 159 into a precision instrument, Novitec and Alfa Romeo offer an enticing package that's enough to make buyers forget all about the letters B-M-W.</p>

<p>Nobody defines the terms "wretched excess" and "gilding the lily" quite like Novitec. Whereas countless other aftermarket tuners make their mark by transforming ordinary road cars into fire-breathing monsters, Novitec starts with the already-hottest-performing cars to grace black asphalt and then endeavors to improve upon them. In this case, the German tuning house is improving upon its own improvements with the Novitec Rosso Ferrari F430 Bi-Compressor Evoluzione.</p>
<p>"Evoluzione" is the magic word in both the Ferrari and Novitec houses, denoting the ludicrous taken to the extreme. (Think of insane examples like the Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluzione and you're on the right track.) In this case, the latest release from Novitec Rosso starts with their <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/05/30/novitec-rossos-twin-supercharger-ferrari-f430/">previous twin-supercharged 636-horsepower F430</a> and raises the stakes by an additional 20 horses, bringing total output up to an Enzo-rivaling 656hp. </p>
<p>In addition to the power spike - resulting from the twin Rotrex superchargers, intercoolers and remapped ECU - Novitec arms its monstrous creation with a full aerodynamic package, wheel and tire upgrade, bigger brakes, beefed-up suspension and the works. If you're the kind of customer who'd be interested in improving upon a Ferrari in the first place, chances are you'd likely be up for re-doing the interior, and Novitec offers a full range of custom leather retrofits that will turn the rare into the positively unique.</p>

<p>If you're a regular reader here at Autoblog, you'll know that we like aftermarket tuners, and regularly cover some of their finest efforts. Tuners give enthusiasts and buyers a broader range of customizable options than the factory could possibly envision, allowing us to express our individuality and personal taste - or, sometimes, complete lack thereof. But some things you just don't mess with, like a Ferrari. With very few exceptions, messing with the perfection of a Prancing Horse just spells disaster.</p>
<p>This video from Dutch television shows the agonizing step-by-step process of turning the F430, one of the best sports cars ever to grace God's green earth, into a rolling orange abomination that looks more Trick than Treat in its Halloween livery. </p>
<p>It's probably just as well if you can't understand what the narrator and interviewees are saying, because frankly, we don't want to know. Watch at your own risk...not for the faint of heart.</p>

The Novitec Rosso F430 rolls on 19- and 20-inch custom five-spoke wheels, available in conventional 5-stud or racer-style center-lock mounts and shod with 255/30 and 345/25 Pirellis. Tucked inside the alloys are a set of ceramic brakes made for Novitec by Brembo.<br /><br />But the crowning touch is found in the engine compartment - a dual supercharger induction system that takes the F430 powerplant to 636 hp, good for a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds, en-route to a top speed well over 200 mph.<br /><br />Novitec's interior treatment befits the car's performance orientation, with lightweight sport seats and a sport steering wheel.<br /><br />Price? Well, if you have to ask... the twin supercharger conversion <span style="font-style: italic;">alone </span>will run you over $70,000 by the time you throw in the matching exhaust system and carbon-fiber airbox upgrade.
