I've been compelled to do many things in or around a car, but jumping over one has never quite made the cut. That may be because I have all of the vertical lift of a manatee, but I digress. One enterprising young soul recently looked at a friend's Nissan Sentra and thought, "You know, I can totally leap right over that roof line."

By using what can only be described as Herculean feats of persuasion, he talked one young female friend into driving said Nissan straight for him at around 40 miles per hour while another stood by to film the lunacy. The plan went swimmingly right up until our would be compact-vaulter caught his foot on the hood and bounced into the windshield. Whoops.

But the story doesn't end with a trip to the emergency room. Our hero spun mid-air and actually managed to get his feet under him before coming back to Earth. Impressive. You can watch the hilarity for yourself below, but please, don't even think about trying this yourself.
Continue reading Teen attempts car jump, hits windshield and lands on his feet

Teen attempts car jump, hits windshield and lands on his feet originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 11 Jun 2013 12:45:00 EST.
Intent on not eliminating itself from consideration, and adapting to the way consumers research new car purchases, Nissan has announced price discounts now in effect, indefinitely, on seven models: the Altima, Armada, Juke, Maxima, Murano, Rogue and Sentra. It was found that Nissan's price points fell outside the competitive pool when prospective buyers searched for cars based on maximum price.

The price cuts vary and depend on the equipment spec, but they range from several hundred dollars to thousands of dollars; the MSRP of the Altima drops by $580, the Sentra by $730, the Armada by $4,400. Discounts on the Murano alone range from $1,460 to $2,410. Under orders from CEO Carlos Ghosn the brand is working to raise its US market share to ten percent by 2016, from 7.9 percent currently - which includes Infiniti - and appears to be optimizing its placement every step of the way to do so.
Nissan lowers price of seven models for better search results originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 05 May 2013 15:29:00 EST.
Anyone can take a picture of his car. But is it a good picture? Probably not.

However, the folks at Nissan offer up some solid tips on getting the most out of your photo instead of trying to rely on photoshop afterward. The video below offers some great step-by-step instructions, but here are the highlights:

1. Get up early: The best light is the first and last hour of sunlight.

2. Wear kneepads: Low angle shots are often a good choice for car pictures.

3. Clean up: Bring cleaning equipment to make sure the car looks its best.

4. Avoid gray skies: Unless the photo is black and white, gray skies just depress people.

5. Get a great car: Nissan shot the video of photographers making the all-new compact 2013 Sentra look great. If they can do that, you should have no problem doing something better with your wheels.
Nissan has announced that it will build the 2013 Sentra at its Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant in Canton, Mississippi. The Japanese automaker had already committed to moving both its Frontier and Xterra SUVs to Mississippi from Nissan's plant in Smyrna, Tennessee. The manufacturer says it will hire 1,000 workers to keep pace with the three new models in the Canton plant, pushing the facility's total workforce to 4,500. The location also builds the 2013 Altima, Armada, Titan and NV commercial trucks. Sentra production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.

Nissan will also build the 2013 Sentra at its Aguascalientes, Mexico plant, where the company builds the current sedan. The company says the two-front approach will allow it to produce more Sentra models than before in order to better keep up with demand. Scroll down to read the official press release and to watch a Nissan-produced faux news report.
Continue reading Nissan cranking up Canton output to accommodate 2013 Sentra [w/video]

Nissan cranking up Canton output to accommodate 2013 Sentra [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 29 Jun 2012 11:01:00 EST.
Nissan has issued a voluntary recall on select Frontier and Xterra models due to problems with the lower steering column joint and shaft, as well as the Sentra sedan for problems with the positive battery cable terminal. Just under 605,000 vehicles are affected by this recall, which is set to ramp up in early December.

Approximately 303,000 Frontiers and 283,000 Xterras in the United States, Canada and a number of Latin American countries can develop corrosion that limits the movement of the lower steering column joint. If this issue is overlooked, it can lead to the steering shaft cracking.

Sentras, on the other hand, have developed a problem with the connector on the positive battery cable terminal, which can cause the car to have issues starting, or can possibly result in stalling at low speeds. Approximately 18,500 Sentras manufactured between May 15, 2010 and July 8, 2010 are being recalled for this reason.

Affected model years depend on where the vehicle was manufactured, and you can see the full details in Nissan's press release, after the jump. Thanks to all for the tips!

Nissan Foria Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery

As much as we'd love to see Nissan hearken back to its performance roots with a remake of the classic 240SX coupe, it seems the Japanese automaker is content to earn sales by sticking to the tried-and-true approach of offering competent vehicles at attainable prices. In other words, if Nissan has a sporty-looking coupe in the pipeline, it'll be more of a Scion tC competitor than a Hyundai Genesis Coupe-challenger.

This revelation comes by way of Larry Dominique, chief product planner for Nissan North America, who tells Wards "he would be more inclined to do a derivative of the Sentra than introduce an entirely new nameplate." Nissan's internal data suggests that it could only sell about 30,000 240SX coupes in America per year, which isn't enough to make a convincing production argument. Sad, sure, but very likely also true.

In related news, Dominique also says that the next generation of Nissan cars in the States will share a great deal of design DNA. At present, there is very little visually that ties the Versa, Sentra and Altima together in any meaningful cohesive way besides the Nissan badge on the trunk. Expect that to change in the coming years as the nameplates receive their next rounds of styling updates.

Nissan is recalling a number of models due to overheating Garmin navigation units. Cars, trucks and SUVs equipped with Nuvi 750, 760 and 765 GPS devices are at risk for a vehicle fire due to overheating batteries in the devices. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall affects Nissan's Altima, Frontier, Pathfinder, Rogue, Sentra, Versa and Xterra models sold with the Garmin devices between 2008 and 2010. NHTSA does not say exactly how many vehicles will be effected by the defective batteries.

Garmin technicians will make the necessary repairs to the GPS units by replacing the battery with a new, less-toasty unit and adding an additional spacer between the battery and the rest of the device. The repair won't cost owners anything other than a little time and a trip to the local dealership. Nissan will notify owners directly about the recall, which is scheduled to begin sometime during this month. Suzuki is facing a similar recall, as well - these Garmin navigation units are fitted in the SX4, Grand Vitara and Equator.

Hitachi Automotive supplies engine control units to Nissan. Further up the chain, an unnamed supplier hasn't been able to fulfill Hitachi's need for a custom integrated circuit, so Hitachi hasn't been able to fulfill Nissan's orders for ECUs. That has put Nissan in the potential position of needing to halt Altima and Sentra production for three days, July 14-16, at factories in Tennessee and Mexico.

The Altima and Sentra would take the fall first as they're Nissan's volume models. Hitachi's delay has already interrupted production in Japan, but thus far the issue has only involved 15,000 units. A U.S. and Mexico plant stoppage of two company staples would bite more deeply into Nissan's combined 1.2-million-unit production capacity. It's suspected that Subaru and perhaps Honda are also affected by the ECU delay.
If you're like us, chances are you spend just as much time drooling over the latest automotive toys as you do the real deal. Nissan has embraced its inner child with a new spot for the 2010 Sentra SE-R, filming the entire commercial in 1/10th scale with the help of a fleet of radio-controlled vehicles. There's even a R/C helicopter in on the action.
Us? We're just happy to see Nissan spend some money promoting the SE-R at all. Now, if you'll excuse us, we'll be in the parking lot perfecting our R/C drifts. Hop the jump for a look at the full spot, and don't forget to catch the behind-the-scenes video, too. Hat tip to Lindsey!

2010 Nissan Sentra - Click above for high-res image gallery

The Sentra is usually considered a mid-pack contender for the small car crown behind such heavyweights as the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, but Nissan has made some key changes for model year 2010 that may change a number of minds. For one, all Sentra models have received revised headlights and taillights, and certain models including the 2.0, 2.0 S and 2.0 SL also get entirely new front fascias that better reflect the brand's current design language. New wheels and bits of chrome exterior trim on some models also spruce up the small car's exterior for 2010. Inside the Sentra, Nissan has made leather seating an option, upgraded the stereo head unit with a 4.3-inch display and now offers a Navigation Package for just $400 with a 5-inch color touchscreen and access to XM NavTraffic.

Speaking of lower prices, Nissan has responded to the times by reducing the price on all six Sentra models (2.0, 2.0 S, 2.0 SR, 2.0 SL, SE-R and SE-R Spec V). There's a new overall base price of $15,420 for a 2.0 model with manual transmission, which is $70 lower than last year's model. The biggest savings comes with the SE-R and SE-R Spec V models, both of which are $1,080 cheaper than last year with base prices of $19,580 and $20,080, respectively. You can check out all the prices changes after the jump, though keep in mind that all prices mentioned do not include a destination and delivery charge of $720.

Nevertheless, the new Sentra, for which Nissan has only released three photos but promises more, looks more mature than the overly edgy current model. Combine that with more features and options available at a lower starting price across the board, and we think the Sentra may have a fighting chance of moving up a spot or two in the small car segment.

2009 Nissan Sentra FE+ 2.0 SR - Click above for a high-res gallery

These days, many have seen their discretionary income fall faster than a ZR1's fuel gauge at full gallop. Recognizing this fact, Nissan has responded with a new iteration of the Sentra for 2009 called, rather cryptically, the FE+ 2.0 SR. On the surface, the new SR looks like the high-spec SE-R model - which itself has given up a bit of performance in the name of comfort and convenience over the last few years - with sporty front and rear fascias, a rear spoiler, smoked head- and tail-lamps and 16-inch alloy rims.

Despite its sporty appearance, this model's main purpose in life is to save on fuel bills. Under the hood lies the standard Sentra's 140-horsepower 2.0-liter four-banger, as opposed to the SE-R's enlarged 2.5-liter mill. When mated to the standard CVT transmission, Nissan is estimating that the SR will return 26 mpg in the city and 34 on the highway, which is a slight improvement over last year's 25/33 with the same powertrain combination.

The new SR will carry an MSRP of $17,760 (all prices plus $695 destination fee), which matches the price of the carry-over S model. Also available will be a base FE+ for $16,730, an up-level SL for $19,660 and the SE-R for $20,660. The top-rung SE-R Spec V will go for $21,160 and will be available solely with a 200-horsepower 2.5L mated to a manual transmission. Head past the break for the full press release.

Gallery: 2009 Nissan Sentra FE+ 2.0 SR

Continue reading Nissan announces new 2009 Sentra FE+ 2.0 SR

Nissan announces new 2009 Sentra FE+ 2.0 SR originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 11 Mar 2009 19:32:00 EST. On closer inspection they noticed the car was a complete write-off, but that it was also missing its drivetrain. Then they noticed a group of five mechanics huddled around a sporty looking Sunny (Sentra) on the other end of the garage. You can probably guess what they found when they sauntered over for a closer look. The newly-mid-engine Nissan Sunny has had quite a power upgrade. With twice as many cylinders and roughly 380 hp to play with, this F355-engined pocket rocket should be quite a wild ride. We hope they add a little rear ventilation in the extreme makeover. Revenge of the '80s, it's the return of the killer Bs.

[Source: Hemmings]
Ferrari engine served Sunny side up originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 10 Apr 2007 20:05:00 EST. Remember, there are two models, the Sentra SE-R and the more powerful SE-R Spec V. The 2007 Sentra SE-R starts with an MSRP of $19,400. That model includes a 177-horsepower 2.5L four-cylinder engine and Nissan's Xtronic CVTO transmission. The 2007 Sentra SE-R Spec V, meanwhile, begins at just $500 more. With a base MSRP of $19,900, the Spec V sports a 200-horsepower version of the same motor paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. It also features bigger brakes, meatier tires and a sportier suspension than the SE-R model.

Our question is why anyone would choose not to pony up the half grand for the more powerful and performance oriented SE-R Spec V model. We suppose the SE-R may appeal to those who can't drive stick or want a less expensive insurance premium, but should those people really be shopping for a high-performance econocar in the first place? Regardless, a sub-$20k base price for 200 horsepower sounds like a decent deal, though we expect options like the Audio Package, Sunroof Package, satellite radio, and helical limited-slip differential will quickly raise this car's cost of entry.

[Source: Nissan]

Gallery: 2007 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V

Continue reading Nissan prices Sentra SE-R Spec V below $20k

Nissan prices Sentra SE-R Spec V below $20k originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 09 Mar 2007 16:04:00 EST.
