<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>2010 Porsche 911 Turbo - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
With its new-for-2010 direct-injected, 3.8-liter turbocharged flat-six, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/07/porsche-unveils-facelifted-2010-911-turbo-packing-500-horsepower/">upgraded 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo</a> has fired a shot across the bow of the world's supercar armada. Promising better performance, better fuel economy and better emissions, this tweaked 997 should hold the fort until the 998 appears in a couple of years.<br />
<br />
With 20 extra horsepower motivating the lightened (by 55 pounds) all-wheel drive coupe, it should be noticeably quicker than its 2009 counterpart. How much quicker? <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/243973/"><em>Autocar</em></a> is reporting that it's a full ten seconds faster around the Nurburgring Nordschleife than a 2009 Porsche 911 Turbo. That means the new Turbo just breaks into the 7:30s at 7m 39sec.<br />
<br />
That still puts it behind the rival Nissan GT-R at 7:28 after former Formula One driver, Toshio Suzuki, went out and shaved more than a second off the car's previous best. Of course, Porsche still has a possible <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/26/rumormill-porsche-911-turbo-s-coming/">Turbo S</a> model in the works and already produces a wicked <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/15/frankfurt-2009-2010-porsche-911-gt3-rs-is-pretty-dang-sweet/">911 GT3 RS</a> that can probably close the official gap between them and Godzilla.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><strong><small>Reposessed GTR headed for auction today - Click above for image gallery</small></strong><br /></span></div>
<br />Here's your chance to put Godzilla in your driveway for a discount! Of course, this GT-R that's headed for the block at Matley's Richmond Auto Auction today in Virginia will likely not go for much of a discount. Barring a transmission that's been launch-controlled into oblivion, this 3,011-mile repo-special appears virtually showroom-fresh. Carfax says this car is a clean, one-owner affair, and the auction company hasn't put it in the "inoperative vehicle" group, so we're guessing it's another case of financial over-reach brought back down to reality. If it were us, we'd be hiding this thing in a garage more secret and secure than Dick Cheney's undisclosed location while we sold an organ or two on the black market to pay its bills. You've got a spare kidney, but it's not like the GTR comes along every day. If you've actually got the finances to purchase a GT-R and think this one may be a bargain, you'll have to move fast - the auction is today. As long as you can make one or two payments before you start selling off pieces of yourself, you'll be fine. This tip comes to us from our friends at <a href="http://blog.hemmings.com">Hemmings</a>, who also hooked us up with the Carfax, posted after the jump. Thanks David! <br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/repo-gtr/low/">Repo GTR</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/repo-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/986857_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/repo-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/986858_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/repo-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/986859_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/repo-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/986860_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/repo-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/986861_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="https://www.richmondaa.com/">Richmond Auto Auction</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/08/repo-gtr-up-for-auction/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Now's Your Chance: Repo'd Nissan GT-R up for auction</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/08/repo-gtr-up-for-auction/">Now's Your Chance: Repo'd Nissan GT-R up for auction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 08 May 2009 11:30:00 EST. It would appear Nissan may be following the same plan with the development of its GT-R. Rather than sit around and let the car's development go cold, Nissan is continuing to refine its bargain supercar slayer. <br /><br />N&uuml;rburgring watchers have noticed a seemingly base model GT-R lapping the track lately. There's camo on the front and rear fascias - somewhat strange for a car that's been released for public consumption - so the folks at <a href="http://www.gtrblog.com/2009/04/25/next-nissan-gt-r-spied-testing-at-nurburgring/">gtrblog</a> took a closer look. <br /><br />While it may look innocuous enough, the latest GT-R o be snapped on its German vacation has aerodynamic pieces that are subtly different, leading gtrblog to come to the conclusion that this is probably thee 2011 version of Nissan's Godzilla. <em>Thanks for the tip, Jim!</em><br /><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.gtrblog.com/2009/04/25/next-nissan-gt-r-spied-testing-at-nurburgring/">gtrblog.com</a>]<br /><br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/29/spy-shots-2011-nissan-gt-r-spotted-testing-at-nurburgring/">Spy Shots: 2011 Nissan GT-R spotted testing at Nürburgring?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 29 Apr 2009 10:30:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Nissan GT-R SpecV - Click above for high-res gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />At this point, it's clear that a good showing at the N&uuml;rburgring is of the utmost importance to any automaker with supercar ambitions. Contestants ranging from Porsche, Nissan, Chevrolet and Dodge have all visited the famed German racetrack to try and set a new fast lap record, despite the fact that none of these test sessions are officially recorded by anyone other than the automakers themselves. <br /><br />Back in mid-2008 when the GT-R was first establishing its formidable credibility, Nissan's Chief Test Driver, Toshio Suzuki, took Godzilla to a lap time of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/01/gt-r-drops-ring-time-down-to-7-29/">7 minutes, 29 seconds</a>. That mark has since been eclipsed by the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/10/video-gm-releases-corvette-zr1s-7-26-4-ring-attack/">Corvette ZR1</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/27/unofficial-dodge-viper-acr-laps-ring-in-record-7-22-1-w-video/">Dodge Viper ACR</a>, but Nissan's supercar may have a bit more to offer in its latest guise for 2009. Plus, the even hotter <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/08/nissan-gt-r-specv-details-live-images-and-video/">SpecV</a> will also hit the market in very short order, featuring larger brakes, less weight and a slight bump in power thanks to a turbocharger overboost function.<br /><br />Will Suzuki-san be able to shave enough time to best the Viper's 7:22 in either the standard-fare GT-R or the high-test SpecV? We'll find out for sure next month when Nissan puts on a full court press at the Green Hell in search of those elusive few seconds it needs for ultimate bragging rights.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-gt-r-specv-live/low/">Nissan GT-R SpecV Live</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-gt-r-specv-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/01_nissan_gtr_specv_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-gt-r-specv-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/02_nissan_gtr_specv_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-gt-r-specv-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/03_nissan_gtr_specv_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-gt-r-specv-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/04_nissan_gtr_specv_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-gt-r-specv-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/05_nissan_gtr_specv_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.gtrblog.com/index.php/2009/03/09/gtrblog-interviews-toshio-suzuki-lord-of?blog=4#more1049">GTRBlog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/10/report-nissan-headed-to-ring-in-april-in-search-of-new-gt-r-an/">REPORT: Nissan headed back to 'Ring in search of new GT-R and GT-R SpecV lap times</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 10 Mar 2009 17:56:00 EST. Contrary to a previous report that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/20/nissan-drops-launch-control-from-2010-gt-r/ ">Nissan intends to drop Launch Control</a> from the 2010 GT-R, Motor Trend's blog is reporting that no decision has been made yet and we've heard the same thing from Nissan itself. The bigger point that MT goes on to make is that even without Launch Control, the GT-R is still brutally fast. When the magazine got its first crack at the R35, testers did an acceleration run just for giggles with all the electronics aids active except for Launch Control. The result? 3.9 seconds to 60 mph by just mashing the skinny pedal all the way down. That's enough speed to keep the GT-R running in the same pack with which it's already been lumped, and with the computers doing the work, there's no risk of stalling at launch and getting smoked by a '93 Duster. So what've we learned? Without risking a $20,000 transmission replacement, the GT-R is still a rocket. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/">Review: 2009 Nissan GT-R</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://blogs.motortrend.com/6356422/technology/so-just-how-slow-is-a-nissan-gt-r-without-launch-control-engaged/index.html">Motor Trend</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/24/nissan-gt-r-will-do-3-9-second-0-60-em-without-em-launch-cont/">Nissan GT-R will do 3.9-second 0-60 <em>without</em> Launch Control</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 24 Nov 2008 14:28:00 EST. Popular Science has just picked its favorites and revealed the <a href="http://www.popsci.com/bown/2008/category/auto-tech">Best of What's New</a> awards for the year that just was; um, is. The grand prize goes to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/gt-r/">Nissan GT-R </a>for its technical brilliance, astonishing performance and relatively attractive pricing. No real complaints there, though we'd be remiss if we didn't at least mention that the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/zr1/">Corvette ZR1</a> in the same breathe, which PopSci fails to do. <br /><br />Green technology holds down three of the 11 positions, with two coming from Ford for its capless fuel fillers and EcoBoost engine tech, though the latter won't arrive until 2009 and Ford can't be credited with pioneering the combination of turbocharging and direct-injection on small displacement engines. Honda takes up a slot with its largely unobtainable hydrogen fuel cell-powered FCX Clarity. Also winning awards from the techy Mag are BMW's Google Maps-infused MyInfo service and the speed recognition system from the Euro-spec 7 Series, the DARPA-winning Tartan Racing Boss, Audi's Dynamic Steering, the Wide-View cameras from Lexus, Infiniti's self-healing clearcoat and the Speedshift transmission from Merdedes-Benz. <br />The GT-R/911 schoolyard scuffuffle continues, with Nissan looking at Porsche's test and basically saying "yer doin it wrong" to the German automaker. Chief engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno has graciously offered remedial driving classes to the driver for Porsche's lapping session where a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/23/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-nissan-gt-r/">GT-R</a> was reportedly <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/30/porsche-accuses-nissan-gt-r-of-cheating-the-ring/">25 seconds off Nissan's torrid time</a> of 7 minutes, 29 seconds. Porsche had concluded that special tires must have been quietly fitted in a quest for 'Ring primacy. Porsche has yet to say anything other than "Ve don't sink zee car can do it in schtock form." <br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/03/nissan-defends-gt-r-ring-time/">Not so</a>, says Nissan. While a claim to the fastest production car on the N&uuml;rburgring might help prospective customers froth up some money, and owners are unlikely to try verifying the claim, Nissan is not interested in wasting time on one-offs, according to Mizuno. "For us, testing the car in standard production specification is far more relevant", says the engineer. The very tires that carried driver Toshio Suzuki on the 7:29 run are in the hands of Sumitomo, and Nissan would encourage interested parties to STFU and go look at the rolling stock. It seems Nissan thinks Porsche needs a little help figuring out the GT-R, to which the company will be happy to help.
