<br />
Back in July, we first told you about a serious driveline issue that was cropping up in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/camaro">Chevrolet's new-for-2010 Camaro</a>. In specific, output shafts were failing on V8 manual transmission SS models, a malady that was generally tied to hard launches or use of the car's launch control system. The problem eventually resulted in General Motors conducting some warranty repairs and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/breaking-early-camaro-ss-manual-transmission-failures-reported/">briefly issuing a factory hold</a> of the SS <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/21/gm-says-camaro-tranny-issue-is-fixed-wont-reveal-cause/">while it fixed the problem</a>, and as far as we knew, that was that.<br />
<br />
That was the last we heard of the issue until AB reader Billie informed us that talks regarding output shaft failure were once again heating up over at the <a href="http://www.camaro5.com/?p=2958">owner discussion forums of Camaro5.com</a> - so much so that GM's own John Fitzpatrick, the marketing manager of Chevrolet's performance cars, chimed in with a statement on behalf of the automaker, the text of which you can read after the break. <br />
<br />
Basically, Fitzpatrick says that after a review of the issue, GM is confident that failure rates "under normal driving conditions are very low... even in the most extreme driving condition, the probability of failure does not significantly change." In any case, Fitzpatrick assures that GM will continue to stand behind their five-year/100,000 mile warranty coverage.<br />
<br />
For the most part, it seems like Fitzpatrick's comments have assuaged the concerned parties on Camaro5 (there are definitely still a few disgruntled folks), but if nothing else, it's nice to see another example of an automaker wading into the internet fray to directly address customer issues.<br />

<br /> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2011-ford-mustang-3-7-liter-v6#3"><img vspace="4" hspace="0" border="1" align="right" alt="" class="right border" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/11mustangv6_250.jpg" /></a>It would be reasonable to expect that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/ford/">Ford</a> might pass over the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/mustang">Mustang</a> and instead devote more attention to its other models since it's fresh off a comprehensive revamp for the 2010 model year. However, that's not what is shaping up in the House That Henry Built. <br /> <br /> For 2011, the Blue Oval is introducing a new 3.7-liter V6 Mustang that should give it the firepower and refinement needed to take on Chevrolet's six-cylinder <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/camaro">Camaro</a> and Hyundai's upstart <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/genesis+coupe">Genesis Coupe</a>. But it isn't just the spanking all-aluminum powerplant and its 305 horsepower and 280 foot-pounds of torque that's making the scene for the forthcoming model year. In addition to the Cleveland-sourced mill, there are a pair of fresh gearboxes, a new V6 performance package, and a host of nip/tucks to the interior and elsewhere. <br /> <br /> Now, we could grouse on behalf of 2010 MY 'Stang owners everywhere that these upgrades weren't part of last year's mid-life updo, but instead, we'll just be happy that these advancements are arriving at all.<br /> <br /> Despite being smaller than the outgoing 4.0-liter V6, the dual-overhead cam 3.7-liter's horsepower and torque ratings represent massive improvements over the 2010 model (305 HP dismisses 210 HP and 280 lb-ft. plays 240 torques). In fact, that's more horsepower than the 4.6-liter V8 Mustang made just a few years ago. While the 305-horse figure only allows the Mustang to pip the crosstown Camaro by a single all-important stallion in the pony car bragging wars, Ford says the powertrain will be good for 30 miles-per-gallon on the highway when paired with its new six-speed automatic, also one notch better than the Chevy.<br /> <br /> Click through to the jump to read more details and check out Ford's suite of press releases.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-ford-mustang-3-7-liter-v6/low/">2011 Ford Mustang 3.7-liter V6</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-ford-mustang-3-7-liter-v6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/11mustangv6_1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-ford-mustang-3-7-liter-v6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/11mustangv6_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-ford-mustang-3-7-liter-v6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/11mustangv6_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-ford-mustang-3-7-liter-v6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/11mustangv6_06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-ford-mustang-3-7-liter-v6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/11mustangv6_11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: Ford]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/30/2011-ford-mustang-v6-la-2009-preview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LA Preview: 2011 Ford Mustang V6 makes 305 HP, gets 30 MPG</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/30/2011-ford-mustang-v6-la-2009-preview/">LA Preview: 2011 Ford Mustang V6 makes 305 HP, gets 30 MPG</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 30 Nov 2009 00:01:00 EST. <br />
Years and years and years ago (like back in the Eighties), we read a study that broke down car ownership by gender. The car most purchased by men? The Porsche 928, with a score of 97% male. Most by women? 69% of the time the ladies bought Nissan Pulsars - you know, those oddball <a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e6/Nissan-Pulsar-N13.jpg">notchback/shooting brake/targa-top</a> modular things that usually came in pink. We mention this because traditionally, muscle cars have aimed at and appreciated by men. In fact, the gender breakdown for the 4th-generation Camaro is 80% male to 20% female. Not anymore.<br />
<br />
Despite 'Vettes getting 'em wet as the sleeveless t-shirt proclaims, it seems that what women actually want is a brand new Chevrolet Camaro. At least, that appears to be the case with America's neighbors up in the True North Strong and Free. According to Autos Canada, it's looking like new 2010 Camaro sales in Canada are splitting the gender divide right down the middle, as in 50-50 in some locations. "Unlike the older versions of the Camaro where you probably had the typical motorhead, male, buyer, this is totally the opposite," says one Canadian Chevy dealer. <br />
<br />
Why is this? Says General Motors spokesman George Saratlic, "One of our biggest challenges was the muscle car association to the car. We knew we couldn't do a replica of a '69 Camaro - It limits your audience." What does that say about fans of the 2010 Camaro? Probably not much, as the 426 horsepower LS3 version still skews heavily male. Also, the heavy dose of marketing via Michael Bay's Transformers movie series ensures that eight-year-olds and their ilk are way into GM's latest pony car as well. Still, women are clearly seeing something exciting in the Camaro. <em>Thanks for the tip, Lawrence!</em><br />

<br />
This past Sunday was the <a href="http://www.WWRExpo.net">7th Annual Wings, Wheels and Rotors Expo</a> at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, California, and after our experience there <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/29/autoblog-visits-wings-wheels-and-rotors/">last year</a>, we just had to go back for more. As you might guess from the title, this is more than just another hot rod gathering. Attendees get a chance to see mega horsepower air transport as well as earthbound movers and shakers. Even better, folks can actually get up close and personal with military vehicles, airplanes, jets and helicopters too. It's like an open house for the military, with a few hundred muscle cars thrown in for good measure. Hot rodders (and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/7th-annual-wings-wheels-and-rotors-expo-0/#35">bikers</a>) tend to be a fairly patriotic bunch, so the combination is a perfect match. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/26/autoblog-at-the-7th-annual-wings-wheels-and-rotors-show/#continued">Make the jump</a> for our report from the ground.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em><small>1968 Yenko Super Camaro - Click above for high-res image gallery<br /> </small></em></strong></div>
<br /> This post represents something of a dilemma for us. On the one hand, we could tell you about General Marketing Capital Incorporated (GMCI) owner Jeff Leonard and how he's just taken control of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Yenko/">Yenko</a> name and brand. But on the other, we could ask only that you stare at the above image (and those in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/yenko-camaro-45th/">the gallery</a>) for five minutes in absolute reverential silence. Do you really care that Leonard will more likely than not be bringing new Yenko products to market? Sure, a 2010 Yenko Super Camaro would be sweeter than cookie dough ice cream, but hey... look up. <br /> <br /> Additionally, we could explain how almost forty-five years ago Don Yenko gamed GM's COPO (Central Office Production Order) program to build his first factory hot rod, the Yenko Stinger Corvair, but we just cannot take our eyes off of the gorgeous blue 1968 Yenko Camaro with the 427 motor and M-21 four-speed manual. Because really, besides the Stinger Corvair, have you ever seen anything hotter? Really? What?<br /> <br /> And what would a 2010 Yenko consist of anyhow? Well, the Yenko formula was simply to put the best performance parts possible under the skin of a given car. Meaning we're talking about a LS9 powered Camaro with carbon ceramic brakes and magnetic-rheological shocks. Actually, that sounds pretty good. The question, then, really is whether or not Mr. Leonard will be able to make new Yenkos as blisteringly desirable to people in 2055 as Don Yenko's products are to us today at the end of 2009. Any bets? Full press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/14/yenko-brand-still-kicking-45-years-later-new-vehicles-coming/">after the jump</a>.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/yenko-camaro-45th/low/">1968 Yenko Super Camaro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/yenko-camaro-45th/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/yenko00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/yenko-camaro-45th/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/yenko10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/yenko-camaro-45th/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/yenko20_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: General Marketing Capital Incorporated]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/15/yenko-brand-still-kicking-45-years-later-new-vehicles-coming/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Yenko brand still kicking 45 years later, new vehicles coming?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/15/yenko-brand-still-kicking-45-years-later-new-vehicles-coming/">Yenko brand still kicking 45 years later, new vehicles coming?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 15 Oct 2009 16:56:00 EST. <strong> <br /></strong>Ford has just launched an online customizer for the 2010 Mustang, and it's darn fun to play with. You can choose from a variety of hoods, louvers, scoops, spoilers, grilles, wheels, stripes, and pretty much everything else you can put on the exterior of a Mustang. You can even decide the size of your Mustang's burnout and even put down some rubber on the pavement. <br /><br />We went with a monochrome look on our dream 'Stang, adding a Roush body kit, shaker hood, billet grille, 20-inch chrome wheels, and more. Check out <a href="http://www.fordvehicles.com/the2010mustang/?id=/customizer/overview/No1086">our personalized 2010 Mustang</a> on the site customizer and create your own.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblogs-custom-2010-mustang/low/">Autoblog's Custom 2010 Mustang</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblogs-custom-2010-mustang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/2010mustangcustomizer2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblogs-custom-2010-mustang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/2010mustangcustomizer3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.fordvehicles.com/the2010mustang/?id=/customizer/overview/No1086">Ford</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/05/ford-launches-2010-mustang-customizer-complete-with-varying-burn/">Ford launches 2010 Mustang customizer complete with varying burnout sizes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 05 Aug 2009 14:29:00 EST. <br />Sporadic reports have begun popping up in the Camaro5 forums about issues with V8-powered SS models equipped with the manual transmission. It seems that doing a hard launch or using the launch control system occasionally results in a broken output shaft, a serious failure that will most likely leave the car immobile and in need of repair. We spoke with General Motors spokesman Adam Dennison about the problem and, as this is being written, a factory hold has been put on deliveries of manual transmission V8 Camaros while Chevrolet engineering teams investigate the problem. <br /><br />Based on the reports, the transmission issues may not be related to the launch control system as the failures seem to happen whether or not launch control is engaged. The Camaro SS uses the Tremec 6060 six-speed gearbox - the same transmission fitted to the Dodge Viper, Mustang GT500, Corvette Z06 and other performance cars - so this is likely a manufacturing issue with a batch of gearboxes.<br /><br />Dennison told Autoblog that an engineering meeting is being held this evening to identify the cause and establish a timing for the fix - and a recall seems likely. In the meantime, if you have a manual model Camaro SS, you might want to go easy on the launches for now - and if you have one ordered, you'll have to wait a bit longer. <em>Thanks to Bailey and Derrick for the tips!</em><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/">One Night Stand: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/01-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/02-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/03-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/04-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/05-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30226">Camaro5.com</a>]<br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Alex N&uacute;&ntilde;ez / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/breaking-early-camaro-ss-manual-transmission-failures-reported/">BREAKING: Early Camaro SS manual transmission failures reported, factory hold issued</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 13 Jul 2009 19:26:00 EST. <br />When we last visited the Hurst facility in Irvine, CA, we noticed something unusual. While nearly all of the Challengers were painted in either white or black, a lone Challenger painted in B5 Blue sat tucked away in a corner. When we inquired about the car, we were told that we would find out soon enough. Well, we know now, as Hurst has just unveiled a Competition/Plus package for the Dodge Challenger at the NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, CA. <br /><br />The Competition/Plus project was started in an effort to provide a more affordable package, as well as appeal to customers who might not necessarily want the classic gold paint schemes. Named after the legendary shifter that helped make Hurst famous, the package includes only the essentials: an Eibach suspension system, Magnaflow exhaust system, Hurst 20-inch alloy wheels, color-matched leather inserts and stitching for the interior, matte black exterior accents, and, of course, a Competition/Plus short throw shifter with the classic white ball. <br />According to the well-connected boys over at Camaro5, General Motors will indeed produce a Chevrolet Camaro Z28 after all... and they've even scored some details on the hi-po offering.<br /><br />According to Camaro5 user Hiney1 who attended a special question and answer session at the Carlisle Nationals this weekend (seen above), a Z28 will arrive after the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/15/spy-shots-chevy-camaro-convertible-caught-outside-oshawa-plant/">Camaro Convertible</a>, itself expected in the spring of 2011.<br /><br />The Z28 will reportedly make use of some sort of high-output LS-based engine (C'mon, guys! You're killing us!), and it will incorporate a hood similar to that of the Bumblebee edition, along with a unique grille, the usual spate of graphics and emblems, and perhaps even a tweaked rear-end. <em>Thanks for the tip, Jay!</em><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.camaro5.com/?p=1382">Camaro5</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/wink-wink-gm-officials-reportedly-coyly-confirms-camaro-z28/">Wink, Wink: GM officials reportedly coyly confirms Camaro Z28... but it isn't coming soon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 29 Jun 2009 15:29:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for huge high-res gallery from Seal Beach</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />We love spring for a multitude of reasons, but mainly for the car shows that start popping up around the country. The sun comes out and so do the classic cars, hot rods and muscle cars. This weekend we stopped by the 22nd Annual Classic Car Show in Seal Beach, California along with about 25,000 other folks. The show features around 500 cars, stretching from PCH to the pier right down the heart of Main Street.<br /><br />The day includes a pancake breakfast, a running of the local pinewood derby, and a whole lotta' fun. Besides the bands that show up to play everything from swing to rock-and-roll, there were also the sounds of the cars themselves during the periodic cacklefest moments of the day. That's when the show participants are encouraged to start 'em up and stomp the loud pedal. It's quite an earful, especially if you happen to be standing next to one of the dozen or so race cars in attendance, like we did when a vintage Yeakel dragster once piloted by Tom "Mongoose" McEwen dropped the throttle.<br /><br />Although muscle cars are generally king at these types of gatherings, there are also a number of other classes. Everything from the aforementioned race cars to European classics; from hot rods to Woodies; from customs to boats, bikes and even buses. A great event that puts a big emphasis on wholesome family fun in a quintessentially American way and you can check it out in our massive gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/22nd-seal-beach-classic-car-show/low/">22nd Seal Beach Classic Car Show</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/22nd-seal-beach-classic-car-show/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/22ndsealbeachcarshow---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="22nd Annual Seal Beach Classic Car Show" title="22nd Annual Seal Beach Classic Car Show" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/22nd-seal-beach-classic-car-show/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/22ndsealbeachcarshow---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="22nd Annual Seal Beach Classic Car Show" title="22nd Annual Seal Beach Classic Car Show" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/22nd-seal-beach-classic-car-show/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/22ndsealbeachcarshow---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Party Bus" title="Party Bus" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/22nd-seal-beach-classic-car-show/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/22ndsealbeachcarshow---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Sprint car" title="Sprint car" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/22nd-seal-beach-classic-car-show/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/22ndsealbeachcarshow---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Vintage dragsters in cacklefest" title="Vintage dragsters in cacklefest" /></a></div><em><strong><br /><br /><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 Frank Filipponio / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/27/autoblog-spends-a-day-at-the-22nd-annual-seal-beach-classic-car/">Autoblog spends a day at the 22nd Annual Seal Beach Classic Car Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 27 Apr 2009 19:31:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>1967 Ford Mustang hardtop convertible custom - Click above for an image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />According to this eBay seller, this is the only 1967 Ford Mustang ever fitted with a retractable hardtop. As we've never seen one before (or one wearing butterfly doors, for that matter), we'll give the auctioneer the benefit of the doubt.<br /><br />In any case, this restomod 'Stang has been comprehensively reworked, including a new Ford Racing 302 crate motor, along with a new Tremec T5 gearbox, a fully reworked suspension and a set of four-wheel discs hiding out under the American Racing Torque Thrust II wheels.<br /><br />Of the staffers we surveyed here at Autoblog, we're not crazy about the paint or the doors, but the retractable fiberglass top unit from Mustang Plus is something we can't help but find interesting, particularly if this conversion was done to a donor car that wasn't originally terribly collectible (non numbers-matching, etc.). Admittedly the lines of the top don't blend with the rest of the design as nicely as a stock hardtop's roofline does, but that's to be expected with conversions like this. Besides, both the engine bay and the underbody are incredibly sanitary - certainly cleaner than they were the day this 'Stang rolled off the assembly line.<br /><br />The seller says that the droptop conversion is something of an homage to a concept Mustang model that Ford originally considered building back in 1967. According to the listing, the Blue Oval invested some $250,000 in exploring the concept, only for it to get nixed by Henry Ford II because it couldn't be motorized. A quarter century later, retired Ford designer Ben J. Smith apparently devised the system seen here. Be sure to check out the huge gallery of images and the link below... only a few hours left to get your bid in!<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ebay-find-of-the-day-custom-1967-ford-mustang-hardtop-convertible/low/">eBay Find of the Day: Custom 1967 Ford Mustang hardtop convertible</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ebay-find-of-the-day-custom-1967-ford-mustang-hardtop-convertible/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/67-ebay-mustang-hardtop-vert_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ebay-find-of-the-day-custom-1967-ford-mustang-hardtop-convertible/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/67-ebay-mustang-hardtop-vert-(2)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ebay-find-of-the-day-custom-1967-ford-mustang-hardtop-convertible/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/67-ebay-mustang-hardtop-vert-(14)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ebay-find-of-the-day-custom-1967-ford-mustang-hardtop-convertible/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/67-ebay-mustang-hardtop-vert-(3)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ebay-find-of-the-day-custom-1967-ford-mustang-hardtop-convertible/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/67-ebay-mustang-hardtop-vert-(1)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1967-Mustang-Retractable-HardTop-65-66-Rare-Showpiece_W0QQitemZ360147973814QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item360147973814&amp;_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&amp;_trkparms=72%3A317|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1308">eBay</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/27/ebay-find-of-the-day-crazy-horse-1967-ford-mustang-with-butte/">eBay Find of the Day: Crazy Horse - 1967 Ford Mustang with butterfly doors and folding hardtop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 27 Apr 2009 13:58:00 EST. <br />While <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/17/video-hyundai-pays-tribute-to-45-years-of-the-mustang/">some might be celebrating in their own way</a> (Ford to Hyundai: Let us know when you sell nine million Genesis Coupes), the Blue Oval is putting on a huge birthday bash for the Mustang's 45th anniversary. Over 2,500 Mustang enthusiasts, many of whom are driving cross country with their pony cars, are expected to attend four days of festivities at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama. Among the revelers will be nine original owners of 1964 1/2 Mustangs who still own their cars.<br /><br />On the schedule is a huge cruise of 500 Mustangs, plenty of track time, car show, a Mustang Challenge race,and more. More details on the event can be found in the press release after the jump or by visiting <a href="http://www.mustangevents.org/">www.MustangEvents.org</a>, but be sure to check out Ford's Mustang timeline graphic in the gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/45-years-of-the-ford-mustang/low/">45 Years of the Ford Mustang</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/45-years-of-the-ford-mustang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/ford-mustang-timeline_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/45-years-of-the-ford-mustang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/45yearsofmustang_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/45-years-of-the-ford-mustang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/45yearsofmustang_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/45-years-of-the-ford-mustang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/45yearsofmustang_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/45-years-of-the-ford-mustang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/45yearsofmustang_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/17/happy-birthday-ford-celebrates-45-years-of-the-mustang/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Happy Birthday! <br />You know you're off to a good evening when it starts with the delivery of a Victory Red pre-production 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS. I hadn't even pulled away from the parking garage where it was waiting for me, and it was already causing a ruckus. A young boy, waiting with his extended family for their car to be retrieved, saw the ponycar roll up. His eyes turned into saucers. "Dad, it's the car from Transformers!" he sputtered, tugging on his father's sleeve. Dad immediately chimed in with, "Whoa. Niiiice car." Grandpa looked at the car, locked eyes with me, broke into a grin and just gave a thumbs up. The Camaro elicits those sort of responses a lot. You know, because it's awesome.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/">One Night Stand: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/01-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/02-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/03-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/04-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/05-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Alex N&uacute;&ntilde;ez / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/09/one-night-stand-taking-home-the-2010-chevy-camaro-ss/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>One Night Stand: Taking home the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/09/one-night-stand-taking-home-the-2010-chevy-camaro-ss/">One Night Stand: Taking home the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 09 Apr 2009 20:00:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>SMS 570X debut - Click above for a high-res gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Under the bright sunlight of the Javits Center's Crystal Palace atrium, Steve Saleen took the covers off of his latest creation, the SMS 570X. The Dodge Challenger-based muscle car registers a few rungs above the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/sms-570-challenger-has-a-coming-out-party/">570 that we first viewed at its Orange County unveiling</a> in January. Where that car was fitted with a 5.7-liter V8, the 570X utilizes a 6.0-liter engine, reportedly good for 700 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque - plenty of gumption to roast those wide and flat 20-inch meats. <br /><br />The engine includes lots of forged bits (pistons, crankshaft, con-rods, etc.) lurking beneath new CNC-ported aluminum heads. In addition, the 570X receives a SMST six-speed manual transmission and a high-performance cooling package. The heart of the car is a production version of the SMS 296 supercharger, the firm's new blower co-developed with Lysholm. Like Mopar muscle of yore, this system features a Six-Pack too - only in the SMS' case, it refers to a brace of cylindrical intercoolers. <br /><br />While the supercharger comes as part of the 570X package, it will also work on other Chrysler LX products including the Charger, Magnum, and Chrysler 300C. SMS also promises that "aftermarket fitments" are in the works for both Ford and General Motors products.<br /><br />Aesthetically, the X is nearly identical to the original 570, which is a good thing, because it looks sensational. From its "Red Butterfly" side-induction hood to its flared, vented fenders and new front fascia, the basic form looks spot-on. With its lowered stance, details like its GTX-style grille, fender vents, carbon-fiber splitter and side skirts, and rear spoiler, the 570X is at once classic Motown muscle and a thoroughly modern tuner car.<br /><br />As this car was just a prototype, there were some unfinished bits (off-kilter badges, hood fitment, etc.), but officials promise to get the production car right. No word yet on official pricing and availability, but well-heeled Mopar fans would do well to reach out to SMS straight away.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-sms-570x/low/">New York: SMS 570X</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-sms-570x/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/sms-570x-live_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-sms-570x/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/sms-570x-live_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-sms-570x/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/sms-570x-live_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-sms-570x/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/sms-570x-live_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-sms-570x/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/sms-570x-live_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/09/new-york-steve-saleens-sms-570x-ups-the-ante-with-700-supercha/">New York: Steve Saleen's SMS 570X ups the ante with 700 supercharged horses</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 09 Apr 2009 18:57:00 EST. <span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small><br /></small></span>We've been through a lot of great car collections and museums over the years, but even we have to admit that we've never seen a private collection like this. Assembled by a shadowy figure known only as "The Sultan of Michigan," this cache has something for car enthusiasts of most every stripe, although the focus is clearly on vintage and present-day muscle and Eighties-and-up supercars. Truck enthusiasts, vintage foreign guys and brass car enthusiasts will largely have to look elsewhere, but it's a magnificent collection, with the most flabbergasting thing being that it appears to be up-to-the-minute current.<br /><br />The whereabouts and ownership of the collection are two things that the owner prefers to keep private - we actually have confirmation on both, but prefer to respect privacies. What we can confirm is that this treasure trove is, in fact, located in Michigan, which is both heartening (to know that such wealth and mechanical beauty still exists in the state) and somewhat confounding (as the area lacks truly great winding roads on which to exploit much of the machinery). In either case, the collection is generally kept under wraps, although periodically we understand that the owner invites in selected parties to share in the gorgeousness. Some of the folks at <a href="http://www.midwestscc.com/index.php">MidwestSSC.com</a> are obviously part of the 'inner circle' judging by the video and <a href="http://www.midwestscc.com/photos.php?album=188">this photo gallery</a>. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/27/video-mystery-collection-is-one-of-the-nicest-weve-ever-seen/">Follow the jump</a> to take the tour for yourself.<em> Thanks to Andrew Weber for use of his video, and we appreciate the tips, Justin and Evan!</em><br /><br />[Sources: Andrew Weber; <a href="http://www.midwestscc.com/photos.php?album=188">MidwestSCC.com</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/27/video-mystery-collection-is-one-of-the-nicest-weve-ever-seen/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Sultan of Michigan's car collection is one of nicest we've ever seen</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/27/video-mystery-collection-is-one-of-the-nicest-weve-ever-seen/">VIDEO: Sultan of Michigan's car collection is one of nicest we've ever seen</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 27 Mar 2009 19:57:00 EST. As the story goes, budget crunches for both General Motors and its suppliers could grenade products that were seen as foregone conclusions.<br /><br />At the moment, TDB says that saving the droptop is the most pressing issue, as the German supplier responsible for the convertible top is having money problems. GM is seeking alternate suppliers, but that process is likely to take six months or more, meaning that the model will likely miss most of the 2010 convertible's prime selling seasons (Spring and Summer).<br /><br />The high-performance Z28 is a different story, however, with GM's own costs reportedly being the culprit. TDB quotes Gene Stefanyshyn, the car's Vehicle Line Executive, as saying that as it sits, the model "would cost too much" - about $50 million. Thus, the Z28 could either come to market carrying a prohibitively expensive price tag or face some "creative engineering," and it's likely to do the latter - if it can be saved at all. For now, TDB is calling the Z28 "cancelled" with a potential resurrection still in the cards.<br /><br />Assuming these revelations are true, Bowtie faithful, if you were planning on holding on to your purse-strings for a while longer, you may just want to get in line now for an RS or SS hardtop and consult the aftermarket. We're going to hold out hope and drop a few dimes on our sources at The General just in case.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevy-camaro-convertible-concept/low/">Chevy Camaro Convertible Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevy-camaro-convertible-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/00_camaro_ab_wm---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevy-camaro-convertible-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/00_camaro_ab_wm---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevy-camaro-convertible-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/00_camaro_ab_wm---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevy-camaro-convertible-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/00_camaro_ab_wm---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevy-camaro-convertible-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/00_camaro_ab_wm---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2009/03/camaro-convertible-delayed-z28-cancelled-%E2%80%93-for-now/">The Detroit Bureau</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/20/report-chevrolets-camaro-convertible-delayed-z28-facing-cance/">REPORT: Chevrolet's Camaro convertible delayed, Z28 facing cancellation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 20 Mar 2009 09:55:00 EST. <br />Along with Barack Obama, the Cubs, Al Capone and the Sears Tower, Chicago is home to the world's most famous Mopar dealer, Mr. Norm's legendary Grand Spaulding Dodge. While Mr. Norm sold the dealership in the late 1970's, the Mopar Hall of Famer has recently made a resurgence, officially introducing the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/09/chicago-2008-1968-dodge-gss-hemi-dart/">1968 Dodge GSS Hemi Dart</a> last year in Chicago as well as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/04/sema-2008-mr-norms-aar-cuda-redo/">Super Cuda and Challenger </a>at SEMA just a few months ago. The Challenger is making an appearance here in Chicago as well, with a slick new two-tone paint scheme and 900 supercharged horsepower underneath the hood. Other features include a carbon fiber front and rear spoiler, Katzkin leather interior, SSBC eight-piston front brakes, and a Hurst pistol grip shifter. Like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/29/first-drive-hurst-hemi-challenger/">Hurst and its HEMI Challenger</a>, Mr. Norm is selling a production version of the car with a a variety of styling options and performance levels ranging from 600 to 900 horsepower. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chicago-2009-mr-norms-super-challenger/low/">Chicago 2009: Mr. Norm's Super Challenger</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chicago-2009-mr-norms-super-challenger/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/mrnormssuperchallenger_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chicago-2009-mr-norms-super-challenger/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/mrnormssuperchallenger_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chicago-2009-mr-norms-super-challenger/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/mrnormssuperchallenger_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chicago-2009-mr-norms-super-challenger/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/mrnormssuperchallenger_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chicago-2009-mr-norms-super-challenger/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/mrnormssuperchallenger_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 <a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/">Drew Phillips</a></small></strong><small><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/12/chicago-2009-mr-norms-super-challenger/">Chicago 2009: Mr. Norm's Super Challenger</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 12 Feb 2009 12:57:00 EST. <div align="center"><strong><em><small>Click above for a high-res image gallery of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro</small></em></strong></div>
<br />Back in October, General Motors reported that it had already <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/28/6-000-camaros-ordered-so-far-84-with-v8/">received some 6,000 advance orders</a> for its new fifth-gen Camaro. Despite the fact that the first car has yet to be delivered to a paying customer (that's scheduled to take place in February, with the first one <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/17/first-retail-production-2010-camaro-to-be-auctioned-by-barrett-j/">selling at the upcoming Barret-Jackson auction</a> next month), pre-orders are not slowing down, with GM now reporting a total of 10,000. <br /><br />According to the automaker, 84 percent of the first 6,000 requests were for V8 models, but GM is now suggesting that a larger percentage of its latest orders are for V6 models. Sounds like those jonesing for a new V8-powered muscle car were the first ones turning in their order forms. Now that those initial buyers have all reserved their Camaros, the model mix may be getting closer to what The General had expected in the first place. <br /><br />Hopefully, GM and supplier Cadence, LLC <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/27/gm-suing-supplier-to-keep-camaro-production-going/">get their disagreements worked out</a> in time and these initial pre-orders can be filled in a timely manner. The last thing GM needs right now is a botched launch of its revived pony car, especially since GM has been promoting the new Camaro hardcore <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/01/camaro-and-mustang-do-battle-in-transformers-the-movie/">for the last few years</a>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevrolet-camaro-reveal/low/">2010 Chevrolet Camaro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevrolet-camaro-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/15808-001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevrolet-camaro-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/15808-011_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevrolet-camaro-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/15808-057_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevrolet-camaro-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/15808-084_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevrolet-camaro-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/15808-112_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081230/ANA02/812309987/1176">Automotive News</a> - sub. req'd]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/30/gm-reports-10-000-camaro-pre-orders/">GM reports 10,000 Camaro pre-orders</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 30 Dec 2008 15:56:00 EST. <p>Since automotive sales are in the toilet and the sour taste of high gas prices still lingers, the unfortunate timing of General Motors' long-awaited Chevy Camaro has the armchair quarterbacks fervently debating its long-term viability. This, despite the fact that upon its release the Camaro will offer a little something for almost everyone throughout its various trim levels, a courageous attempt by GM to boost the iconic car's sales. However, many devoted Camaro enthusiasts will still be left out in the cold. This in part due to the vehicle's starting price as well as the many additional luxuries that drag down the Camaro's power-to-weight ratio. No one wants to pay MSRP for a vehicle they intend to strip. That's why GM Performance Parts will be offering a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro body in white. As a result, budget Camaro racers won't have to wait 10 years for a discounted used chassis and large race teams won't necessarily break the bank building a replacement when the driver inevitably stuffs the wall. </p>
<p>The Camaro BIW package will be a full body assembly structure available through GM Peformance Parts for $7,000 beginning in the first quarter of 2009. The chassis will not contain a VIN number, so there will be no means for street registration, as the body in white is reserved for race teams only. An application must be submitted to GM Performance Parts for approval before any transaction occurs. Follow the jump to see the press release in full.</p>

<br />Back in September <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/12/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-se/">we reviewed</a> the V6-powered Dodge Challenger SE, and our conclusion was that an uninspiring engine and benign handling was trumped by terrific curb appeal and an affordable price tag. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/02/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t/">R/T model</a> we reviewed yesterday fared even better, with a near perfect combination of brawn and beauty. It was fun spending time behind the wheel of both the SE and R/T models, but we knew we had to get our hands on a fire-breathing, 425-hp 6.1L HEMI V8 to see how capable the Challenger could be at full tilt. After all, there are few things in life better than classic muscle car looks combined with a brute-force V8. And if there are two available V8 engines, it just makes sense that we'd prefer the Challenger with the most powerful powerplant. Did Dodge hit the mark with its top Challenger?
