We suppose that it was fate that eventually someone would take a vintage Fiat 500 and wrap it around a 6.2-liter V12 plucked from a Lamborghini Murcielago. Seeing as how both the 500 and the Murcielago hail from Italy, it was only a matter of time before the two got drunk and made either the best or worst decision of their lives depending on who you ask.

Built by Oemmedi Mechanics, the car first bowed at the 2012 Bologna Motor Show, and while the ultra-widebody finished product is barely recognizable as an adorable Cinquecento, there's no mistaking the sound of that wicked V12.

How quick is the thing? Oemmedi isn't saying, but we imagine plopping an engine that dishes out 580 horsepower in a car that tipped the scales at just 1,100 pounds from the factory results in all sorts of abuses on the laws of physics. You can check out a few videos of the creation below.
Continue reading Lamborghini-powered Fiat 500 blows our minds

Lamborghini-powered Fiat 500 blows our minds originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 15 Apr 2013 12:45:00 EST.
Regardless of how you (or we) feel about Kanye West's music, factual errors are factual errors. And that's exactly why we're posting this music video of Kanye's new single, "Mercy."

Or is that, "Murci?" As in, Murciélago?

Kanye apparently thinks so, as the lyrics specifically say "Murci-lago" a couple of times throughout the song. But look closely: That black Lamborghini featured in the back of the video? It's a Gallardo. The smaller headlamp clusters are a dead giveaway.

Scroll down to see the Lambo's guest appearance in Kanye's video for yourself. Oh, and be warned - the song's lyrics are very, very NSFW.
Continue reading Kanye West doesn't know his Lamborghini models

Kanye West doesn't know his Lamborghini models originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 08 Jun 2012 19:59:00 EST.
The Thrill Of Victory. The Agony of Defeat. Rarely does one person get to experience such highs and lows within mere hours of each other, but when it happens, the comedown is often all the more painful. Just ask Santaquin, Utah resident David Dopp. The Frito-Lay truck driver won a green Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Roadster, grand prize in the "Joe Schmo To Lambo" contest operated by Maverik gas stations and teamgive.org last month.

Dopp, father of six, was finally presented the car on Saturday afternoon, after which he set about driving it around the neighborhood, giving rides to friends. His elation wouldn't last. Less than six hours after taking delivery of the Lamborghini, Dopp lost control of the 640-horsepower Italian, hopped a curb and spun it into an embankment 75 feet from the road. A witness, Miles Davis (yes, really), said that skid marks were evident on the road and that the car ended up facing the wrong direction. Neither Dopp nor his friend in the passenger seat were injured.

Police say the accident was likely "speed-related," although Dopp reportedly says he was only doing 40-50 mph when he lost control of the car on a section of road with a 35-mph speed limit. Dopp maintains he might have hit some black ice or gravel.

While the extent of the damage to the Lamborghini is not immediately clear, local publication InSantaquin News notes that Dopp has full insurance. To see Dopp's Murci pre-crash, check out the video after the jump.
Continue reading Murci, Murcy Me: Man wins Lamborghini, wrecks it hours later [w/video]

Murci, Murcy Me: Man wins Lamborghini, wrecks it hours later [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 20 Dec 2011 12:30:00 EST.
There are literally hundreds of Lamborghini models of all ages and description at Concorso Italiano, so how does one stand out? Surely not with a bright color, as that would just blend in with the crowd. No, you go for a color that no one else has. Like brown.

Now, some will say that such a "boring" color doesn't belong on an exotic car like the the Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV. Others will say it's more than acceptable. We think it's awesome.

This car started out with a pearl white paint job, but the owner of the car, Cats Exotics, a dealer specializing in high-end sports cars, wanted it to match one of their other Lamborghinis, a Diablo 6.0 SE finished in brown. A matte brown wrap was created especially for the car, the wheels were changed to a gold finish, with a matching SV logo on the doors.

Check out our photos of the car in the gallery above and let us know what you think of it by leaving your comments.
The world's only matte brown Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 20 Aug 2011 15:07:00 EST. Brian Zuk wrapped a 2008 Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640 with a Star Wars-themed vinyl skin for this year's Gold Rush Rally 3. Verdict? We like.

The wrap features Clone Wars-era Jedi Order crests on the passenger side, Galactic Republic/Galactic Empire crests on the driver's side, and an overhead view of an R2 unit on the car's roof (very handy for repairing the V12's hyperdrive). If nothing else, this Lambo's a lock to score one of the prime valet spots outside Jabba's palace. Hop the jump to watch video of it in action.
Continue reading Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 gets Star Wars-inspired wrap

Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 gets Star Wars-inspired wrap originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 09 Jul 2011 18:19:00 EST. Luckiest squirrel on earth dodges Lamborghini - click above to watch the video after the jump

The Internet is chock-full of adorable pet videos and Jackass-style human clips, but it isn't very often when the animal is the one surviving the ill-advised act. That's typically not our cup of tea anyway, but when you throw in a spanking new Lamborghini Murciélago and a happy ending and we're likely to bite.

Beyond the jump is video of a squirrel that cheats death by Lamborghini. The earth-hugging bull is minding its own business at over 100 miles per hour during The Ultimate Lamborghini Experience 4 event at California's Fontana raceway when said squirrel decided to cross the track. What comes next is a bit of a miracle, as the squirrel manages to time its crossing in a most perfect manner. We're not sure who is luckier - the squirrel or the LP670-4 SV driver - but it does look like the furry critter may have had its tail docked a bit in the encounter, so let's hope he's okay. Hit the jump to watch the video for yourself.
Lamborghini Murciélago SV fords Greek border crossing - Click above to watch video after the jump

Jon Olsson is a Swedish skier with a passion for X-Games medals, double flips and exotic automobiles. He's owned BMW racers, an Ultima GTR, a Nissan GT-R, a Lamborghini Gallardo and a Lamborghini Murciélago Super Veloce, among other bits of precious metal.

Olsson and his Murci SV recently took part in the latest Gumball 3000 Rally, where the Italian supercar was made to do things other Lamborghini owners would never do to their prized possessions.

As part of the Gumball, Olsson and other competitors needed to go from Turkey into Greece, and the border crossing was a bit flooded with no way around it. Apparently, the front end of the Murciélago SV is perfect for fording shallow bodies of water, because Olsson entered the water and the nose of the big bull pushed a safe path back to dry land. Don't try this at home.

Click past the jump to watch the wince-worthy quick clip of the fording Lambo, and be sure to click through the gallery below for more shots of the mighty Murci.
Continue reading When is a Lamborghini a Ford?
Asus and Lamborghini have teamed up for yet another new round of computer products. The raging bull has supplied design touches to various Asus laptops over the past few years, and this marks the seventh generation of car/computer collaboration. Called the VX7 and inspired by the Murcielago, this Asus laptop features leather-lined palm-rests, a Lamborghini logo atop the clamshell lid and a set of Lambo-inspired taillights out back. Certainly the best part, no?

Available in Orange or Carbon Fiber, the VX7 utilizes a 2.0-GHz Intel Core processor and boasts 16GB of RAM, a Blu-Ray combo drive and a massive 1.5-TB of storage thanks to a dual hard-drive setup. Like any self-respecting machine carrying the Lamborghini badge, this bad boy won't come cheap - the pre-order asking price is €1,995. That's about $2,826 in U.S. currency for those of us sitting Stateside. Thanks for the tip, Pasi!
Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 - Click above for high-res image gallery

Before the Geneva Motor Show press conference on Tuesday, Lamborghini let us in on a private Bologna-area photography studio so that we could get our own sex-machine shots of their raging new V12 firestarter, the 691-horsepower Aventador LP700-4.

First off, we're glad they didn't call it 'Jota' as some were peas-and-carroting about because it's just a silly and unpronounceable name. It probably belonged to some wimpy minor league bull, too. Only one true Jota was ever built in 1970, and it was a just an amped-up and flared Miura (we prefer not to think about the mid-90s Diablo anniversary upgrade kits).

"Aventador" was, according to the best detective work we can muster, a bull whose career peaked in 1993 in the town of Saragozza, Spain, when he and the torero had a particularly spirited encounter prior to ol' Aventador's inevitable skewering. This particular beastie belonged to the breeding stables of the sons of Don Celestino Cuadri Vides and, for unknown reasons surely banal, he bore the number 32 singed on his hide. And now he gets the strongest Lamborghini ever built named after him. And about damned time! The British were getting tired of mispronouncing "Murcièlago" over the past ten years and now they have a new proper name to mutilate.
Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week, the Aventador is Lambo's new Murciélago-replacing flagship supercar, and as its (still unconfirmed) name suggests, we can expect around 700 horsepower to be on tap, stemming from a brand new twelve-cylinder heart.

We've seen dozens of spy shots of the Aventador, and all signs point to a very aggressive design. There are plenty of styling cues from the Sesto Elemento concept that debuted at the Paris Motor Show last Fall, and the end result is absolutely irresistible. Take down the Ferrari posters from your walls, kids - there's a new supermodel to drool over.

The rest of the Aventador's rumored specs are just as impressive. It'll sprint to 62 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds, and it'll do 217 mph at the very top end. This sheer speed is the result of Lamborghini's new carbon fiber monocoque cell that weighs just under 325 pounds - in fact, the whole body-in-white tips the scales at just 505 pounds. Even when the drivetrain and interior bits are bolted in, this new Lambo should be seriously lightweight (for a car its size, anyway).

Expect the full details on the all-wheel-drive Aventador LP700-4 to be revealed in the coming days, and we'll get our first in-person glimpse at the new hotness next week. Get ready. Top tip, Sean!

We're less than two weeks away from the Lamborghini Aventador's unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show, so that means there's plenty of time for a few more "leaks" ahead of the big bull's reveal.

This latest clip of the 700-horsepower V12 Lambo comes courtesy of Autogespot, which has received a remarkably well-produced, two-minute video of the Murciélago successor running through some snow-covered hills. The exterior camouflage is still intact, but we finally get our first glimpse of the interior, including the steering wheel and IP. Nothing revolutionary, but well worth checking out in the video after the jump.

Don't be foolish, Lamborghini. You should have known that a couple of stock "spy" shots of the Aventador LP700-4 wouldn't be enough for us to call off the hounds. Our crack team of camera-wielding warriors managed to lay their lenses on the upcoming Murciélago replacement while the vehicle was undergoing extreme weather testing near the Arctic Circle. If you can look through the snow and the trippy tornado camouflage, you just might notice a face that's even more sinister than that of the old king of the Lamborghini hill. We're guessing that the production version of the vehicle will make use of an even more angular front fascia and rear valance than what we're used to seeing from the already trapezoid-happy supercars.

Rumor has it that we can expect a 0-60 mph time of around three seconds thanks to a 704-horsepower V12 engine with 509 pound-feet of torque on hand. The engine is supposedly mated to an electrohydraulically-actuated transmission that can swap cogs in around 50 milliseconds. Lamborghini hasn't released too many details on the tech behind the transmission just yet, but from the sound of things, it's a new level of quick.

We won't necessarily argue with an automaker (especially Lamborghini) unwrapping its new hotness from the inside out. Recently, we received a photo of the Murciélago replacement's new pushrod suspension - something we were first discovered during our talks with the Lamborghini's CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. Now, our intrepid spy photographers have snapped Lamborghni's new flagship, tentatively dubbed Aventador, wearing nothing but swirly camouflage over its newly redesigned body.

The new Lamborghini's gorgeous bodywork takes many of its cues from the Sesto Elemento concept that debuted at the Paris Motor Show last year. Underneath the sexy exterior is the automaker's new V12 heart of gold, and we should see the finished product in the flesh at this year's Geneva Motor Show in March. In the meantime, continue the striptease for yourself in our high-res gallery below.

After nine years and 4,099 examples produced, the Lamborghini Murciélago has reached the end of its production cycle. A new V12-equipped Lambo is on the horizon, but before that beast roars to life the Italian automaker decided to take its resident raging bull for one more lap through Sant'Agata Bolognese.

Not content to trot the Murciélago out alone, Lamborghini also lined up a 350 GT, Miura, Countach and Diablo to escort the Super Veloce. Baby-brother Gallardo also gets in on the parade action by means of the local polizia. The whole affair was captured on video and, while it might not be action packed, it is packed with beautiful and exotic examples of Lamborghini's history.
Hop the jump to watch the Murciélago take on final victory lap through its hometown.

Bits and pieces. That's what we get when it comes to upcoming automobiles yet to be announced. We glean from leaks, rumors, spy photos and other sources to try and piece together a clear picture of what's coming down the road. And sometimes that information comes from patent offices.

In this case, reports have come in that Lamborghini has registered the name "Aventador" with the U.S. trademark office. The name has a number of divergent translations - including, appropriately, Spanish slang for kicking @$$ - but the most pertinent could be that of a thousand-pound Spanish bull that legendarily fought in and was named the bravest of the Plaza de Toros de Zaragoza.

Whatever the meaning behind the name, we're more interested in what it will adorn. The most likely scenario is that Aventador will be the name of the upcoming Murcielago successor, coupled with the alphanumeric LP700-4 designation. Alternatively this could be used for the limited-production version of the Sesto Elemento concept, though that seems more likely to retain its name. Of course, it could be destined for something else entirely, or nothing at all. We'll just have to sit tight and see.

This LP670-4 Superveloce is the 4,099th - and last - Lamborghini Murciélago to be produced at the automaker's Sant'Agata Bolognese factory. Wearing "Arancio Atlas" paint, the final Murc will be shipped off to a Swiss customer, marking the end of the car's nine-year production run.

During an "end of celebration" ceremony at Lamborghini's factory, the automaker's president and CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, had this to say:

"The Murciélago embodies the pure, unadulterated values of our brand. It is truly extreme, uncompromising and unmistakably Italian. This already makes it one of the legends of the sports car world. But the Lamborghini story continues. In 2011, we will take a huge step into the future with the successor to the Murciélago - with the most innovative technology and, once again, truly stunning design."

The Murciélago may have left quite a mark during its production run, but we're very eager to see what sort of supercar hotness Lamborghini has in store for next year. As we reported earlier, the <strike>Jota</strike> LP700-4 is nearing the end of its development process, and we could see an official debut as early as the Geneva Motor Show next March.

Murciélago, we salute you. Follow the jump to read Lamborghini's official press release.

Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Yeniceri Edition by Unicate - Click above for high-res image mega-gallery

Making a Lamborghini Murcielago stand out has to be one of the easiest tasks an aftermarket tuner can undertake. After all, the six-lane-wide supercar stands out pretty well straight from the factory. Making one fly under the radar is another matter entirely, but Unicate has done a fine job.

The anti-bling matte finish and smoked lamp lenses give the Yeniceri edition Lambo a more brooding, menacing look. It takes its name from an infamous Ottoman military unit, and the only thing that undermines the understated look is the 20-inch front and 21-inch rear ConcavTen wheels that feature black spokes but chrome rims and which Unicate claims are the largest wheels ever fitted to a Murcielago. Big as they are, we'll take that claim with a grain of salt or two.

Unicate's also dropped the suspension by about an inch, fitted a new exhaust worth about 20 extra horses, and fitted LEDs to the front grilles, side skirts and even the engine bay. An array of carbon fiber components are available for the interior as well, as you can see from the high-res image mega gallery below and the press release after the jump.

Lamborghini Murciélago LP 640 "Bat" by JB Car Design - Click above for high-res image gallery

The whole 'Batmobile' comparison gets thrown around an awful lot on websites like this one. And this car's not even black, so we'll wave off of that this time. But consider the following: in the most recent Batman movie, Bruce Wayne drove a Lamborghini Murciélago. Into a truck, unfortunately. His alter-ego's drive, meanwhile, was on the other side of the more extreme Reventón. Now along comes JB Car Design with a kit to bridge the gap. And they call it the Bat, suitably enough.

The German tuner's retrofitted Murci LP 640 can be had with 710 or 750 horsepower (a not-inconsequential improvement on the stock 640) through the installation of new cats and exhaust. But in this case, the defining factor is the car's styling. A new front bumper and splitter, side skirts, and rear bumper with diffuser give the LP640 a more Reventón-style look, with a two-piece carbon fiber rear wing, LED lights and 20-inch modular alloys rounding out the package.

Meanwhile, the interior been re-trimmed in different leather, Alcantara and carbon fiber, along with a new steering wheel and sound system. Each of these components for engine, body and cabin can be purchased separately or as a comprehensive package, but JB says it will only make 75 examples of the body kit. Check out the photos in the gallery below and the press release after the jump for more.

The Lamborghini Jota might not be coming to the Paris Motor Show this week, but that doesn't mean tuners are finished playing around with the Murciélago LP640 roadster. Russia's Status Design has worked with BF to tweak the Murc in the automotive sunset of its life, with performance mods limited to just a sport exhaust. But there's alligator leather inside, a wicked sound system, carbon fiber ladled throughout, and get a load of that tangerine. It's all in the gallery of high-res photos below. Press release is available after the jump, too.

Underground Racing Lamborghini Murcielago LP6700-4 SV - Click above to watch the video after the jump

If the name Underground Racing rings a bell it's because we've reported on some of their insane Lamborghini creations before. You might remember the Gallardo that could knock out 10 second quarter mile runs, or the Superleggera that topped 250 mph at the Texas Mile earlier this year.

The company has now turned to tweaking the V12 in the Murcielago, specifically the mighty LP670-4 SuperVeloce. Underground's twin-turbo performance package for Lambo's flagship starts at a whopping $129,000 and boosts the 6.7-liter V12 to 1,100 horsepower at the wheels on pump gas. You can get an additional 200 horsepower if you decide to use race fuel.

To show off its latest creation, Underground Racing created a teaser video of the twin-turbo Lambo, complete with a few acceleration runs and a rear view of the massive, singular exhaust pipe spitting flames during downshifts. Have a look for yourself after the jump.
