When Chrysler entered bankruptcy protection, its product lineup was decidedly barren. Team Pentastar has addressed that issue in the months since it sought government protection, and the fruits of all that labor have begun to pay off with the launch of 16 new and dramatically refreshed vehicles for 2011.

New products like the 2011 Chrysler 300 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee have no doubt helped improve Chrysler's portfolio, but AutoWeek reports that the sheer scope of the overhaul may have truncated the 2011 model year. Many of the 2011 models in dealerships now didn't arrive until the first quarter of 2011, while others, like the 300 and Dodge Durango are just now trickling into showroom floors across America.

The late roll-out of 2011 models won't be repeated for 2012, as Chrysler spokesperson Ralph Kisiel reportedly told AW "most of our 2012s go into production during the month of July." Dealers will begin ordering 2012 models as early as May.

Chrysler's shortened run of 2011 models isn't exactly normal, but we're guessing that it won't matter much to dealers. After all, if 2012 models are arriving this summer, then the 2011s will just be getting in the way.
Unfortunately for dealers under The Chrysler Group umbrella, their lots are teaming with '06 metal. The Detroit News quotes analyst John Casesa of Casesa Shapiro LLC as saying, "To have a third of your inventory in old models when you're two months into the (2007) model year, that's heavy." Heavy indeed, John.

Chrysler has put into effect two campaigns that it hopes will start clearing out the lots of last year's inventory. The first is aimed at the dealers themselves and involves about $500 million in dealer cash incentives to sell 2006 models. Dealers will earn an additional $2,500 to $7,000 for every 2006 model they sell. The easiest to sell models like the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 will earn dealers $2,500 unit per unit, while the tough sell trucks and SUVs like the Ram pickup and Durango will fetch a hard-earned $7,000 per unit. Consumers will be happy to know that on average Chrysler passes 85% of that money on to consumers.

In addition to lower transaction prices from the dealer cash Chrysler's shelling out, more than 3 million consumers are receiving coupons worth $1,000 that can be used towards the purchase of most 2006 and 2007 models. These coupons can be added on top of any existing incentive offers, as well. The only vehicles excluded are the 2007 Chrysler Sebring sedan; Dodge Viper sports car, Nitro, and Sprinter van; Jeep Wrangler, Patriot, and 2006/07 Grand Cherokee SRT-8.

The coupon mailing is the largest ever sent about Chrysler, and while the dealer cash is not being advertised to the public, you heard it here that these double discounts are in effect and now might be the best time to pick up that 300C you've had your eye on.

[Source: The Detroit News]
Chrysler offering millions to dealers and consumers to move 2006 inventory originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 04 Dec 2006 14:07:00 EST. Chief among them is an increase in towing capacity by 600 lbs. to a "class-leading" 10,500 lbs. That number just happens to match the 10,500-lb. towing capacity of the just unveiled 2007 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra, which was described as "segment-leading" by GM. The F-150, however, may break the tie with a greater payload capacity of 3,050 lbs. compared to the GM twins at 2,160 pounds.

Other changes for the F-150 include two new models: the FX-2 Sport (shown) we uncovered hiding in the basement of the Javits Center at the New York auto show back in April and the Harley-Davidson SuperCrew, which will debut at the Sturgis Rally that starts up August 7th.

F-150s also get price breaks across the lineup, which on average amount to $720 for Regular Cab models, $830 for SuperCabs and $949 for SuperCrews. The price range of an F-150 will now begin at $19,120 for the XL Regular Cab 4x2 and top out at $39,565 for the Lariat King Ranch SuperCrew 4x4. The price cuts come on the heels of Ford's announcement that the redesigned 2007 Expedition will launch in September with a price $4,300 lower on average than the outgoing model. Finally, the 2007 F-150 also benefits from Ford's new powertrain warranty that extends for 5 years or 60,000 miles and includes roadside assistance.

While the demand for trucks is falling, the competition between their makers is heating up. This is good news for consumers still interested in a pickup as prices are falling on models that offer more truck than ever before.

(Ford's full press-release can be found after the jump)

[Source: Ford]
Continue reading 2007 Ford F-150 - Charting the changes

2007 Ford F-150 - Charting the changes originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 02 Aug 2006 12:10:00 EST.
