The mini-truck is dead. Long live the mini-truck!

We aren't alone in our love for compact cargo haulers. AutoGuide recently took the time to sit down with Jack Hollis, the vice president of Scion, who apparently shares our affinity for the smallest of pickups. While Hollis didn't go so far as to say that a Scion pickup was first on his list of things to do, he did mention that he's very interested in the idea and that a lot of Scion customers are, as well.

Don't think that means we'll see Scion-badged Toyota Tacoma models roaming the wastes anytime soon, though. Hollis says that in an ideal world, Scion would partner up with Daihatsu to create an entirely new vehicle in a similar fashion as what Scion cooked up with Subaru for the FR-S. Dragging one of the Toyota subsidiary's current products through the federalization gauntlet would cost more than the effort would be worth, Hollis says.

We won't exactly hold our breath for the model to arrive anytime soon, but we're still thrilled to hear that the upper ranks of at least one automaker is giving the mini-truck segment serious consideration.
Scion considering Daihatsu-based pickup for US? originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 10 Nov 2011 08:58:00 EST. Whether or not it's through the Jaguar/Land Rover brands or something actually wearing the Tata nameplate, India's top vehicle builder is moving aggressively to become a world player. To that end, Tata Motors has entered into a new deal with Chrysler, LLC to develop an electric version of Tata's Ace mini truck for sale in North America. Chrysler's Global Electric Motorcars division (GEM) is working with Tata to import fully-assembled vehicles that meet all the appropriate U.S. regulations. The battery-operated Ace has successfully navigated the required safety tests, and they're reportedly ready for production. Tata wants to eventually export up to 50,000 vehicles to the US, but they've pegged the goal for 2008 at 10,000 units. This is definitely the year to keep an eye on Tata.

[Source: Reuters]
Tata and Chrysler sign deal to import electric Ace originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 24 Jan 2008 14:29:00 EST. But we have to say, even if you don't think it's cool, it's at least done well.

The German Car Scene says Benedikt Schiermeyer turned a perfectly innocent Cooper S into a virtual MINlamino at the request of a customer. Great job, Benedikt. It almost looks factory, and the wood floor in the bed is a very nice touch. But, personally, I think I'd rather have one of the original Mini trucks.

We'd love to hear from either Benedikt or the owner of this cute little custom to find out more about how it was created. Shoot us a note if either of you are reading.

GCS has more photos including one taken during the build.

[Source: German Car Scene]
The MINIamino originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 03 Mar 2007 19:55:00 EST.
