2012 Mini Cooper Roadster, top down

Mini has officially announced pricing for the company's new Cooper Roadster. The tiny droptop will carry a base MSRP of $24,350 in the U.S., while the Cooper S Roadster will set you back $27,350. The top-of-the-line John Cooper Works Roadster, meanwhile, will command a sticker of $34,500 (*pricing exclude a $700 destination and handling fee). Should buyers wish to drop an automatic transmission into their Cooper Roadster or Cooper S Roadster, the two-pedal option will cost an additional $1,250, but the John Cooper Works Roadster is only available with a manual gearbox. Mini says 16-inch alloy wheels are standard on the base roadster and its S counterpart, while the topped-out JCW Roadster will roll on flashier 17-inch wheels.

That means the Cooper Roadster requires a $3,450 premium over the base hardtop Coupe, but curiously, it's cheaper than the Cooper Convertible by $600. While the latter doesn't exactly offer palatial amounts of space for rear passengers, it is still considerably more functional than its Cooper Roadster equivalent. We have to wonder if there's enough of a price differential between the two models to keep buyers from skipping the more rakish Roadster for its four-seat counterpart, but either way, we're just pleased it doesn't share the Coupe's awkward backwards-ballcap roofline. The fine folks over at MotoringFile say that the pricing on their favorite little cars will grow in 2010. A combination of higher shipping costs and more standard equipment (including runflat tires), results in a base price bump of $300 to $400 on every MINI model across the board.

The cheapest MINI, the R56 Cooper, now starts at $19,500 - $300 more than the '09 model. On the other end of the range, the R57 John Cooper Works MINI convertible also gets a $300 bump and starts at $34,700 before options. In between lies the R55 Clubman series, which carries a matching $300 bump to $21,150 to start and maxes out in JCW guise at $31,700.

MotoringFile has a list of other changes you'll see when ordering our new MINI, including Interchange Yellow replacing Mellow Yellow, fabric on the back of sport seats and some exterior colors available only with certain packages. The memos also make even more official BMW's decision to completely drop the limited slip differential option due to low interest.

Yesterday we brought you the Full Mini Monty including all the details we had on the Clubman... at the time. Now we can make it a Fuller Mini Monty by telling you that the European Mini Clubman will sell there for £14,235, a £1,210 increase over a comparable two-door Mini. With current exchange rates, that's about $28,900 in U.S. currency. Gulp.

A better way of deducing what the Clubman will cost us in the U.S. might be to look at the percentage of price difference between European hatchback and Clubman models. In that case, a European Clubman costs about 9.1% more than a two-door hatchback. With a U.S. spec, base-model Cooper starting at about $18,050, that could mean a comparably equipped U.S. Clubman might come in under $19,700. Much better, but all speculation, of course.

Starting Nov. 10, Brits will be able to choose between the diesel version at £15,400 and a higher-performance petrol engine with 173bhp at £17,210. Our sale date has yet to be announced, and we haven't heard any plans of a diesel option here. Yet.

Motoring File has attained U.S. pricing for the 2007 Mini. The new model's base price increases $600 to $18,050 with standard 6-speed manual and rear spoiler. Standard equipment will also include a trip computer, traction control and a sport mode button. The Cooper S increases $300 to $20,900, the Convertible will be priced at $21,950 with the S option adding $4,200 to the drop-top's price.
