2013 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor

Ford is giving F-150 SVT Raptor owners and fans a chance to get better acquainted with the vehicle's capabilities. The Ford Racing Raptor Assault program puts drivers behind the wheel of the factory off-roader at Miller Motorsprots Park. The course includes eight acres of rock crawling, a 22-acre, high-speed off-road course and a 900-acre desert course. Instructors will work with drivers with varying skill levels for a unique experience. Participants can take part in a hot lap ride-along program or a three-hour Raptor Assault Experience that includes driving in both the rock crawling and off road courses as well as hot laps with a pro driver. A one-day school is also available.

Raptor owners will get special discounted pricing, which is a good thing given that prices range from $300 for the three-hour tour to $1,395 for the full day. Maybe there's a chance the school will help keep Raptor owners from carrying too much speed for their obstacles and breaking their trucks. Cadillac CTS-V at Miller Motorsports Park

Cadillac Racing just wrapped up competition at Miller Motorsports Park as part of the Pirelli World Challenge. Before the race kicked off, the crew spent a few hard laps getting the CTS-V Coupe Race Cars sorted and was kind enough to strap a few cameras to the machines while they were on track. If you're looking for a professional view at what it's like to take a lap while behind the wheel of the fire-breathing Caddy, look no further than the clip after the jump.

Drivers Andy Pilgrim and Johnny O'Connell both take the time to talk us through the apexes, brake points and subtle nuances of the track surface at race speed. Very cool.

O'Connell walked away with a second-place finish just behind Patrick Long in his Porsche 911 GT3, while Pilgrim was nudged off the podium by Mike Skeen in third place with his Corvette Z06. Scroll down to check out the video for yourself.

The Dodge Viper ACR is no longer in production, but it remains one of the most impressive sports cars ever built as evidenced by a recent trip to Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. Dodge Motorsports brought a 2010 Viper ACR to the track along with road racer Kuno Wittmer, and the result was a record-smashing lap time of 1:59.995 - nearly four seconds faster than the previous record of 2:03.86 held by a Corvette ZR1 driven by Jan Magnussen.

This isn't the first time the Viper ACR has broken a track record for a production car. In 2008, Dutch driver Tom Coronel piloted a Viper ACR to a record 7:22.1 lap time around the Nürburgring, and one year later, an SRT vehicle dynamics engineer broke the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca lap record with a time of 1:33.92.

As if the 2012 Mustang Boss 302 wasn't tempting enough with 440 horsepower and killer good looks, Ford is throwing in a few extra goodies to make it that much more desirable.

2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 TracKeyFirst off, the Blue Oval announced today that owners of the new Boss 302 will receive a dual set of keys, one of which, 'TracKey,' activates a secondary PCM race tune that alters nearly 200 engine management parameters for the 5.0-liter V8. "From an engine management standpoint, we've done just about everything possible to give TracKey users a full race car experience," says Jeff Seaman, Mustang powertrain engineer. "It's not for use on the street - for example, the deceleration is set up to preserve the brakes, and the throttle response is very aggressive. A skilled driver on a closed course will really appreciate the benefits." The TracKey also features a two-stage launch control feature similar to the one on the Cobra Jet Mustang that can be controlled via buttons on the steering wheel.

Not wanting all of that new technology to go to waste, Ford has also announced that it will be offering customers a complimentary track day to test out their new ride. Offered through Team Mustang and Ford Racing, Boss 302 owners will be treated to driving instruction and track time at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT. Owners will need to book their own travel arrangements, but once there, everything is free of charge.

With the way things are shaping up for the Boss, we're already pondering second mortgages and/or raiding our children's college funds for one of the coolest pony cars ever. If you're good at resisting such temptations, hit the jump and read all of the details in the press releases from Ford.

Ford Racing Mustang FR500S - Click above for high-res image gallery

It doesn't seem too long ago that Ford launched the "poor man's racer" FR500S Mustang and the Mustang Challenge Series at SEMA in 2007, and already it's coming to an end. The series announced that the September race at Miller Motorsports Park will be the last, although the FR500S will still be sanctioned for various other racing series.

No specific reason was given for the ending of the series, but our best guess is that it was due more to the slow economy than a lack of enthusiasm. Everyone involved, from the drivers to the sponsors to Ford all seem sad that the Mustang Challenge will be ending.

"We are disappointed to not continue what we started with the Mustang Challenge," said Series Director Lynda Randall. "But we should hold our heads high, as this was a tremendously successful program and we were fortunate to get to be a part of what really became a family." Ferrari 599XX at Miller Motorsports Park - Click above for high-res image gallery

Without a doubt, the highlight of our trip to Miller Motorsports Park for the Ferrari Challenge this past weekend was seeing the brand new 599XX on track. This is only the second and last time the cars will be in North America for 2010, so it was a special treat to see the cars driven in anger. We gushed earlier about how beautiful the cars look in person, but there's nothing like seeing a 599XX fly down the front straight then hearing the transaxle pull off successive downshifts before the car dives into turn one.

Audio and visuals aside, part of the intrigue of watching the 599XX is knowing how much incredible technology is in the car. For example, there are fans in the back of the car that pull air from the underside and out of ducts near the taillights to increase downforce. How much? The 599XX produces 1,389 pounds of downforce at 186 mph, and after looking through our photos we could actually see the rear spoiler at work, turbulent air swirling up behind the car. There are nine different traction control settings, the 6.0-liter V12 can rev to 9,000 rpm and the new sequential gearbox can bang off shifts in a mere 60 milliseconds.

Of course, we knew we could never get away with just showing you photos (which we have plenty of in the gallery below). So we brought out a video camera to capture some footage of the 599XX on track. Turn up the volume and follow the jump to enjoy the wail of a Ferrari V12.

Ferrari FXX at Miller Motorsports Park - Click above for high-res image gallery

We were pretty impressed after initially watching the Ferrari F430 Challenge cars turn laps at Miller Motorsports Park this past weekend. After all, each of the cars boasts a 490 horsepower V8 and is set up specifically for racing. You can imagine that they're quite capable of turning insanely quick laps. Then a trio of FXXs took to the track and our definition of "fast" was altered forever.

Despite the fact that it will never turn a competitive lap, the Ferrari FXX is a brutally impressive racecar. The second generation Evoluzione version (pictured above), is Ferrari's most advanced GT car ever built with an 860 horsepower V12, a sequential gearbox that can perform shifts in just 60 milliseconds and a curb weight of just over 2,500 pounds. We might have preferred the beauty of the 599XX, but there was no doubt which car was the most capable of the lowest lap times.

In addition to our photos of the FXXs in the pit lane garages, we also came away from the weekend with plenty of shots of the cars on track. Have a look for yourself in the high-res gallery below.

Ferrari 599XXs in the garages at Miller Motorsports Park - Click above for high-res image gallery

Oh, to be wealthy. We're not talking about slightly rich, either. We're talking about having your own Ferrari racecar with factory support wealthy. Such a program actually exists, known as Corse Clienti (translated from Italian as "Racing Clients"). Imagine showing up to the racetrack with your car already there, which was flown in from the Ferrari factory earlier that week. There's no need to to get the car prepared, as Ferrari's very own mechanics are already on the job. Just sit back and relax until it's your time to get on the track, then hop in and take off.

The Ferrari 599XX, the latest member of the Corse Clienti stable, is brand new for this year and only made its debut at Homestead-Miami Speedway last month. We were eager to see them up close, and the first thing we did upon arriving at Miller Motorsports Park on Saturday morning was to go looking for the Corse Clienti cars. It didn't take long to find them, as they were all safely stored in the garages along pit row. There were no less than seven 599XXs, plus an additional three FXXs as a bonus.

In person, the 599XX is a sight to behold. It's not nearly as dramatic looking as the FXX, but that's a good thing in our opinion. In fact, it's one of the most beautiful modern racecars we've ever seen. Unlike the FXX, which seems to be a little rough around the edges, the 599XX has beautifully crafted details both inside and out. For instance, the inside of the door has "599XX" worked into the design of the carbon fiber, and the interior actually seems like a fairly hospitable place to be. The engine bay, like all other Ferraris, is a work of art, and even the functional aspects of the car like the splitters, winglets and diffuser all have an aesthetic appeal.

The Ferrari F430 Challenge isn't on our normal scope of motorsports coverage, but when we heard that the series, along with the Corse Clienti cars, were going to be at Miller Motorsports Park we immediately started checking on flights. This year is the first time the series has come to the state-of-the-art track outside Salt Lake City, and hopefully it won't be the last.

If you aren't familiar with the F430 Challenge, it's a spec racing series put on by Ferrari specifically for owners. Professional drivers, instructors or anyone involved in the sale of Ferraris or parts can't drive in the series. Since each of the cars is exactly the same - a race-prepped Ferrari F430 coupe with 490 horsepower - the playing field is level. Think the races are a bunch of rich guys doing parade laps around the track? Think again. The drivers are extremely competitive and it's not uncommon to see the cars bumping fenders and jostling for position. That was the case at Miller Motorsports Park, where there were several off-track excursions into the Tooele sand and various bits of body panels, splitters and diffusers left on the tarmac.

It makes for good entertainment, and we highly recommend attending any of the four remaining F430 Challenge races in North America this year - Infineon Raceway, Montreal, New Jersey Motorsports Park and Watkins Glen. If you can't make it, then you'll just have to settle for our high-res gallery below.

2011 Ferrari 458 Italia - Click above for high-res image gallery

Chances are you probably haven't seen the 458 Italia in person in the United States. The company's newest mid-engined V8 coupe missed out on expected appearances due to Ferrari's absence at the major auto shows this year, and only top clients and celebrities were invited to the private party and auction held for the 458 Italia in Southern California last month.

Ferrari did finally show off the 458 Italia to the public this past weekend - not at a major auto show or concours event but rather near the small town of Tooele, Utah. The decision wasn't completely random, however, as Miller Motorsports Park was hosting the second Ferrari Challenge event of the year.

The 458 Italia was prominently on display next to the garage filled with Corse Clienti and F430 Challenge cars, and it definitely attracted its fare share of attention. Check out the gallery of live photos below, and check back soon for more coverage from the Ferrari Challenge.

It's been a busy year for Hurst Performance Vehicles. They launched their limited-edition Dodge Challenger at SEMA last November, followed by the 50th Anniversary Dodge Viper, and most recently, they announced the addition of the Pontiac G8 to their lineup. Come mid-September, though, you can add one more to that list. Hurst and BFGoodrich tires have teamed up to create a one-off 2010 Mustang GT Convertible that will serve as the pace car for the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge race at Miller Motorsports Park on September 19. Afterward, the car will attend various events including SEMA, and will eventually be auctioned off for charity at the start of 2010.

Following the same themes as other Hurst vehicles, the Mustang has a spec sheet that reads nearly identical to the Challenger. The exterior gets a white and gold paint scheme accented by Hurst 20-inch forged wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich KDW tires. A supercharger lies underneath the hood (although it's a Roush roots-type rather than a Vortech centrifugal blower), that pushes the 4.6-liter V8 to 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft torque. Eibach suspension components, a Magnaflow exhaust system, Hurst Competition/Plus short throw shifter, and Katzkin leather interior round out the list of modifications. The track, located in Tooele, UT, quickly garnered a reputation as being one of the premier venues in the country and hosted ALMS, Grand-Am, NASCAR, and AMA Superbike races. We were fortunate enough to sample part of the racetrack when we tested the Shelby GT500KR last year, and we very much enjoyed his incredible car museum as well. In addition to his business ventures, Miller was well known for his generosity. He and his wife provided close to 300 college scholarships every year and donated millions of dollars to local colleges and universities. We've all imagined what we would do with a winning lottery ticket or limitless amounts of money. For us here at Autoblog, that fantasy usually involves a large number of automobiles in a multi-car garage. Larry Miller is one of those guys who's living our dream. As the owner of the Utah Jazz, numerous car dealerships, radio and television stations, movie theaters, and a race track, money is not a problem for Mr. Miller. He's used those finances to amass quite a collection of automobiles, particularly historic Shelby and Fords, that are kept at a museum at Miller Motorsports Park. During our recent visit to the track to drive the Shelby GT500KR, we took a tour of the incredible collection. The museum includes several impressive Shelbys, including the second oldest Cobra, the 1966 Le Mans winning GT40 MkII, the MkIV GT40 that won the 1967 12 hours of Sebring, and one of the six Shelby Daytona Coupes. The museum houses only part of Miller's collection, the rest of which can be found at the Shelby museum in Boulder, CO. We know you'd never forgive us if we left the museum without taking photos, so enjoy the gallery below.

If there's anything better than racing on TV, it's racing on HD TV. Just a few days after the first customers received their Mustang FR500S race cars, Discovery Channel's HD Theater announced that it would be doing a three-part television series on the special Ford Mustang Challenge racing series that exclusively features these pony cars. The show will take a detailed look at the inaugural year of the series, from the first testing sessions this month all the way until the last race in September. Miniature in-car HD cameras will capture all of the action on track, and the identical specs of each Mustang ensure that there will be plenty of it. There's no word on when the series will actually debut on HD Theater (we asked, they really don't know), but the press release after the jump provides all the available details for now.

Pair of Audi R10s find front row again at fifth round of ALMS


After two high-profile victories at the 12 Hours of Sebring and the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Audi R10 will begin settling into a routine this weekend as it joins up with the American Le Mans Series in Salt Lake City for a race at the new Miller Motorsports Park.

The Audi R10 is proving to be a worthy successor to the R8, which retired with one last win at Lime Rock Park two weeks ago. Both Audi R10 racecars, one driven by Allan McNish and Dindo Capello and the other by Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro, are starting from the front row after three of Audi's four drivers held the fastest lap time during qualifying at one point. Frank Biela finally claimed the fastest time lapping Milller Motorsports Park in 2m 21.553s.

The diesel-powered R10 racers will be put to the test racing at 4,921 feet above sea level in the deserts of Utah where temperatures are expected to reach 104 degrees F.
