NBC has announced the newest cast of "Celebrity Apprentice," and Michael Andretti will be among the big names vying for $250,000 for the charity of their choice. Andretti has personally accumulated an impressive 42 CART wins during his time behind the wheel, and his team, Andretti Autosport, pulled down its fair share of wins, including two Indianapolis 500 wins. Now Andretti finds himself among 17 other celebrities of varying fame as they vie for Donald Trump's affection. Arsenio Hall, Clay Aiken, comedienne Lisa Lampanelli, Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, Car Show host Adam Carolla and Paul Teutul of American Chopper renown are also part of the cast.

Others include supermodel Cheryl Tiegs, reality TV star Victoria Gotti and former Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza. With so many strong personalities shoved into the show, sparks are bound to fly. Last season, the show managed to raise a record amount for its chosen charities. The contestants pulled in a staggering $3.1 million.
Michael Andretti and Adam Carolla among cast of Celebrity Apprentice originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 06 Jan 2012 18:31:00 EST.
There are plenty of reasons why Danica Patrick stays in the news. If it's not her famous temper, photo shoots for Sports Illustrated or racy television commercials, it's her impressive results on the race track. She is, after all, the first woman to win an Indy race and, after finishing third at the Brickyard this year, the most successful woman to race the Indy 500. But lately the news has centered over the future of her racing career.

Rumors first began to pop up that Danica could move on up to Formula One, initially linked with Honda and then with USF1 before Bernie Ecclestone put his foot in his mouth. Again. Most recently, however, Danica's been tipped to switch to NASCAR. But with the latest announcement, those rumors have been quashed. Well, sorta.

Announced live today in Times Square on ABC's Good Morning America, Danica has signed a "multi-year" deal (tipped to be three years) to stay in the IndyCar Series with Michael Andretti's team. The four-car squad is restructuring this year, with partners Kim Green and Kevin Savoree splitting off the race promotion arm (responsible for the races in St Petersburg and Toronto), while Michael Andretti stays on to manage the team that drops the Andretti Green Racing moniker in favor of Andretti Autosport. GoDaddy.com has signed on to continue its sponsorship of Danica's No. 7 car. Tony Kanaan and Marco Andretti are locked into long-term deals for two of the other cars, while the fourth car is expected to go to former Rookie of the Year and race winner Ryan Hunter-Reay.

The announcement of Danica's extended contract would seem to put an end to the NASCAR rumors for at least the next three years, but reports still suggest that the talented Miss Patrick could run a parallel schedule in the second-tier Nationwide Series while contesting the full IndyCar calendar as well. Busy beaver indeed.
Marco Andretti, the teenage son of former CART champ and one-time F1 pilota Michael, and grandson of former F1 and CART campione, Mario, will be back in the saddle of the Honda RA 106 for a couple of days. Marco had a brief run at Jerez back in December that apparently went well enough for Honda to invite him back for more. Sporting director (and former CART champion himself) Gil de Ferran said that because the RA 106 was still available this week in Jerez, they would love to have the youngest racing Andretti take a few more laps. The IndyCar (IRL) Series 'Rookie of the Year' will be on track in Jerez on 2/7 and 2/8 while Jenson Button and Christian Klien continue to work on the new RA107 chassis.

After an impressive, if somewhat heartbreaking, second place finish in last year's Indy 500, the 19-yr-old Andretti has been seen as a highly visible talent who could potentially draw American fans into Formula 1. While his first test in the Honda RA 106 went well, Marco admitted it was too short to reach any conclusions: "I felt that I did a good job in December but on the first day you spend more time getting used to the car and familiarizing yourself with the circuit," he said. "When I get in the car this time, I am sure I will be able to hit the ground running. I'm looking forward to it."

[Sources: Paddock Talk and Guardian Unlimited]
Marco Andretti gets a second shot at F1 originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 07 Feb 2007 12:09:00 EST. We didn't, but after reading about the outcome we're regretting not being in front of the television for the thrilling finale of the Indianapolis 500. Sam Hornish Jr. edged out 19-year-old Marco Andretti, son of Michael Andretti, by a mere .0635 seconds for the checkered flag. Marco actually passed his father to take the lead in the waning laps and was left to fend off Hornish, who was charging the young driver after losing a lap late in the race on a penalty incurred when he left the pits with his fuel hose still connected. Undeterred by a failed passing attempt on the second last lap, Hornish kept the pressure on and made his move on the last corner to pull beside the young Andretti and beat him by less than a nose. Though papa Andretti was proud of his son, Marco was reportedly disappointed in continuing his father's winless streak at Indianapolis.

For those who care, Danica Patrick held her own and ran as high as fifth before finishing eighth overall.

[Source: Indy500.com]
SPOILER ALERT: Indy 500 results originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 29 May 2006 01:32:00 EST.
