Automobiles don't come much harder-core than the Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen, but AMG has proven up to the challenge time and time again. From the base G-Wagen, the boys in Affalterbach have tuned out successively more powerful versions, but surprised even themselves with the release of the G63 AMG 6x6 last year.
As a reformed hooligan, there is still nothing more paralyzing to me than flashing red and blue lights matched with the sound of a siren, on a car headed right toward me. But it happens. And it happened while I stood in a cold Detroit parking lot taking the photos of the matte black 2014 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG you see here. On its own, the Merc ("Darth Benz" as my friend Eric aptly named it) looks all sorts of suspicious, with its murdered-out look only broken by chrome accents and the red brake
Like the famously bizarre Lamborghini LM002, the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 feels like a vehicle that shouldn't even exist. With 544 horsepower from a twin-turbocharged, 5.5-liter V8 routing through all six wheels and five locking differentials, the 6x6 can take on just about anything offroad that Mother Earth could throw at it. One intrepid owner wanted to take his extremely rare SUV to the track to find out how it fared against the premier supercars of the moment.
The creations that come from Dartz Motorz almost defy explanation. The company is known for modifying SUVs with so much over-the-top luxury that they seem unreal. For example, its last project was a Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6 with gold wheels and a portable smoking room. The company's latest foray into automotive insanity is another take on the G63 6x6 called the Red Russian.
We aren't sure about you, but when someone mentions the Jurassic Park films, John Williams' soaring anthem immediately works its way into our ears. That's why we're humming it as we write about this latest bit of automotive news - the next JP film will feature the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6.
Hey, Mercedes-Benz. I love you guys. Seriously. I recently had a blast driving your hot little CLA45 AMG for a week, but now I'm looking for something... bigger. Something a little more, shall we say, robust. Something I can use to really explore the urban Detroit landscape.
Much like the Humvees that participated in last month's Head 2 Head, the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG and G63 AMG 6x6 in the latest installment are some of the toughest off-road vehicles money can buy. And you'll need a lot of money to buy the 6X6 - at least $500,000. We're not sure why Mercedes-Benz decided to improve the Geländewagen's already fabled off-road prowess by adding another rear axle, but after watching host Jonny Lieberman put it through its paces off-road (and off the ground!), it a
If you were responsible for law enforcement in a country with all the money and oil in the world, what would you use as your patrol car? If you answered a 700-horsepower Mercedes-Benz G-Class, you're in the same boat as Brabus, which brought just such a beast to the Dubai International Motor Show this week.
Unstoppable. That's what comes to mind when images of the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 cross our screen, as it's usually annihilating some barren stretch of desert. In reality, though, the über-G-Wagen isn't all that unstoppable - it may have six-wheel drive, but it's a car, more or less like any other.
In the midst of the launch for one of its most important new cars, the 2014 CLA-Class, Mercedes-Benz has decided to set a price for one of its most ridiculous – and ridiculously awesome – products of all time, the G63 AMG 6x6. How much exactly will it cost to claim ownership to the baddest G-Class ever made? A measly 379,000 euros (*not including the pricey value-added tax), which converts to around $513,000.
Vehicle performance tests are serious business, with reputations made or broken by things like braking distance, top speed, and lateral g-forces. King of the metrics, though, is the 0-60 run, which for unknown reasons has become the benchmark for what truly makes a car a performance machine.
So you didn't really think Dartz Motorz was going to let the limited-production, 544-horsepower Mercedes 6x6 G63 AMG go without a challenge, did you? Picking up the gauntlet as only Dartz can, the Russian dream-makers have come up with the Sahara G-eopard, supposedly a special request from a buyer to make one of the 'standard' six-wheelers "more opulent and insane."
Mercedes-Benz has finally dropped full details on its insane G63 AMG 6x6. The machine puts 544 horsepower to all six wheels thanks to a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8. A seven-speed gearbox shuttles power to the ground via three sets of portal axles, which helps give this machine a full 15.75 inches of ground clearance. By comparison, the standard G63 AMG sits with just 8.27 inches of ground clearance. The extra lift allows this 6x6 to ford nearly 40 inches of water and run massive 37-inch tires
We are fully confident in saying that this will be the most amazing thing you see all day. First of all, it's a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen – in AMG spec, no less. And it's being shown off in high-definition video glory, blasting through the desert, jumping over sand dunes, and generally being awesome. But here's the kicker: It has six wheels. Three axles. And they're all driven. Holy $%!#.
Cigarette Racing has another Mercedes-Benz AMG-themed boat headed out to sea. After The SLS AMG-inspired 46-foot Rough Rider in 2010 and the C63 AMG Black Series-inspired 50-foot Marauder in 2012, this year's Miami Boat Show will introduce the 42-foot Huntress, theme provided by the G63 AMG.
Three screen tests for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG have been completed, and we think it's gonna be a star. As with the G55, we expect the vehicle's reputation to far outshine its sales, but with an exponentially improved interior, 544 horsepower, 560 pound-feet and better gas mileage than its less powerful predecessor, we're talking about a whole lot of shining regardless.
Mercedes-Benz has been kind enough to give us all a glimpse of the company's 2013 G63 AMG ahead of the super SUV's debut at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show. A 5.5-liter AMG-built twin-turbo V8 engine lurks behind the updated face, complete with a heady 544 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. The direct-injection engine is also laden with fuel-saving gear, including a start/stop system and an intelligent alternator that only charges the vehicle's electrical system when needed.
