Recalls are quite common in the automotive world, but this recent recall is out of the ordinary. BP has just announced a recall for contaminated gasoline in the northwest Indiana and northeast Illinois areas that have evidently caused numerous drivability issues in customer vehicles. The handful of E85 refueling locations currently available in Michigan are soon to get some significant competition. The Detroit Free Press reports Meijer, a Midwest grocery chain, will be offering E85 at about 20 of their stores by the end of 2006. Meijer is working with GM and CleanFuel USA, an E85 fueling equipment manufacturer, to identify which stores will sell E85. There are currently only five stations in Michigan selling E85. Meijer, a supermarket chain that's little known outside of the US but arguably represents the Salt Belt's best defense against Wal-Mart, plans to offer E85 at 20 locations in Michigan. That may not sound like a lot, but there are currently only five locations that offer E85 in the state at this time. Meijer's involvement will represent the first major effort by a retailer to add E85 fueling capacity in the state.
