<br />
After more than a quarter century as a mid-summer fixture at Meadowbrook Hall in Rochester, Michigan, the annual Concours d'Elegance is moving in 2011. Come next summer, the renamed Concours d'Elegance of America will take place at the Inn at St, Johns in Plymouth, Michigan. The Inn is a significantly larger facility and will be able to accommodate the cars, their owners and visitors much better than the old mansion. <br />
<br />
The Inn, a former catholic seminary, was renovated into a hotel with a 27-hole golf course in 2006. The concours organizers wanted a location with an on-site hotel and banquet facilities. <br />

<br />
July means Independence Day to most Americans, but it also means racing, concours, auctions, shows, meets, rallies, and tons of other summer car fun. As July 9 has officially been dubbed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/20/senate-designates-july-9-2010-collector-car-appreciation-day/">Collector Car Appreciation Day</a>, it's only fitting that we start off with a couple of vintage car events. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/goodwood/">Goodwood Festival of Speed</a> takes place the first weekend in July this year, with three days of vintage and exotic car action from West Sussex, England. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/meadowbrook/">Meadow Brook Concours</a> will once again bring some of the finest classic cars in the world together on the lawns of Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester, Michigan.<br />
<br />
There are also hundreds of other shows planned, like the Jellybean Show in Surrey, B.C., Michigan Camaro Superfest, Hot San Jose Nights, Dana Point Porsche 356 Concours, Bixby Knolls Drag Fest, Keeneland Concours, San Diego Jaguar Concours, SEMA Show and Shine in Pasadena, Lexani Lifestyle event in Anaheim, and several events at the Petersen and Simeone Museums.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/motorsports/">Racing</a> fans will also have a busy schedule, especially if they plan on following multiple series. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/formula+1/">Formula 1</a> fans can take in the Grands Prix from Britain and Germany, while <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/nascar">NASCAR</a> visits Daytona, Chicago and Indianapolis for the Brickyard 400. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/indycar">IndyCar</a> Series makes an Independence Day stop at Watkins Glen before the transporters load up and head north of the border for races in Toronto and Edmonton. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/alms">ALMS</a> guys and gals are back from their European vacation, and heading to Miller Motorsports Park and Lime Rock Park in July. The rally aces of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/wrc">WRC</a> will be in action in Bulgaria and Finland, while <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/rally+america">Rally America</a> fans can catch the gang at the New England Forest Rally. Grand-Am cars will be visiting Daytona and New Jersey while the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/NHRA">NHRA</a> circus will be hitting stops in Seattle, Sonoma and Denver this month.<br />
<br />
If none of those events appeal to you, check out our Google Calendar <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/02/event-alert-june-2010-calendar-of-automotive-events/">after the jump</a> for even more listings, all with detailed info and links. <br />The 2009 Meadow Brook Concours was home to over 250 of the rarest, most unique motor vehicles the world has ever known. When a vehicle is available in multiple configurations and one of those variants happens to be a drop top, it's usually built in lower production numbers than its fixed-roof sibling, making droptops more exclusive and generally more valuable. That's as good an explanation as any to understand why there were so many topless rides at this year's Meadow Brook, and we've got the pictures to prove it. <br /><br />Click on the gallery below to peruse some of the more striking cabriolets at Meadow Brook. Among the many convertibles on display are a beautiful Mercedes SL 300, a stellar 1954 Jaguar XK roadster and some other rare, gorgeous Fifties and Sixties models straight from Motown. Enjoy!<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-2009-the-drop-tops">Meadow Brook 2009: The Drop Tops</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-2009-the-drop-tops/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/jaguar-xk-roadster_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-2009-the-drop-tops/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours017convertibles_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-2009-the-drop-tops/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours029convertibles_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-2009-the-drop-tops/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours022convertibles_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-2009-the-drop-tops/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours021convertibles_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Chris Shunk / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/06/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-drop-tops/">Meadow Brook Concours 2009: The Drop Tops</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 06 Aug 2009 16:59:00 EST. <br />
Clearly, if a car embodies human traits, its headlamps are the eyes. Over the past century every aspect of automotive design has changed and evolved, but in an odd way, lighting has come full circle. Before standarization took hold, every model had uniquely designed lights, often set within elaborately designed brass housings. As mass production took over and cars became mainstream, the light designs became simpler and integrated into the body work. Eventually, the standard sealed beam light took over and design was largely limited to pop-up or fixed units. In the mid-80s, US regulations were changed allowing halogen bulbs in unique clusters and we've gone back to every car having its own lighting setup. Today, the technology is moving to xenon high intensity and LED lighting, but the clusters are more expressive than ever. Enjoy some of the lights we saw at the Meadowbrook Hall Concours this year.<br />

<br />
As sure as the August heat is going to make that ice cream cone melt all over your hand, the Autoblog podcast keeps notching up new episodes. Chris, Sam, and Dan blocked out some time to sit in front of the microphones and chat about a few things, and thus we present to you Episode #139 of the Autoblog Podcast. Surprisingly positive sales figures start us off, and we stay on that category for a little while, mulling the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/03/report-ford-focus-is-top-selling-cash-for-clunkers-car-nearly/">Ford Focus's top status as a C4C purchase</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/03/is-this-a-trend-camaro-beats-mustang-in-sales-for-second-straig/">Camaro beating Mustang again</a> in sales figures. Moving on to the truly sublime, we talk about the exotics at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/03/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-supercars/">MeadowBrook Concours</a> before hitting on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/03/report-fiats-fuel-saving-multi-air-tech-could-come-to-chrysler/">Fiat's MultiAir technology port</a> and then wrapping with some of your questions. Thanks for all the response so far to <a href="http://www.podtrac.com/audience/start-survey.aspx?pubid=JRJrA-gkKy4$&amp;ver=standard">our survey</a>, and iTunes users can submit reviews of our work at the Autoblog Podcast iTunes page, too. We're always reachable at <b>Podcast at Autoblog Dot Com</b>, too. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>Motorcycles at Concours d'Elegance - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br /> We couldn't possibly meander our way through the field of classic machinery at the Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance without pointing our DSLR lenses in the direction of the beautiful collection of motorcycles gathered on the grounds of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. This year, British twin-cylinder motorcycles were one of the special features of the show, and all of the usual suspects were out in full force.<br /> <br /> Scroll through our gallery below to see meticulously restored <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/#2">Triumphs</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/#23">BSAs</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/#26">Nortons</a> (including this nice <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/#34">John Player replica</a>), <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/#8">AJSs</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/#4">Royal Enfields</a>. Looking a bit deeper into some of the more rarified air, we stumbled upon a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/#17">Vincent</a> or two, along with a bike from Jay Leno's British brand of choice, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/#28">Brough Superior</a>. We even managed to snap off a few shots of a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/#36">1950 Douglas</a>, which mounted its horizontally-opposed cylinders in the opposite direction of the better known format from BMW.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles">Meadow Brook Concours 2009: The Motorcycles</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours017motorcycle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours030motorcycle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours031motorcycle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours032motorcycle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours018motorcycle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Chris Shunk / Sam Abuelsamid / Max Abuelsamid / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/04/meadow-brook-concours-2009-the-motorcycles/">Meadow Brook Concours 2009: The Motorcycles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 04 Aug 2009 12:33:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>1924 Hispano-Suiza H6B Coupe deVille hood ornament - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
Once upon a time, one of the distinguishing features of all virtually automobiles - especially premium models - were their various forms of hood ornamentation. Those high-end models often had custom coachbuilt bodies, meaning that they rarely looked alike. The ornamentation not only showed the way down the road for captains of industry, it also helped bystanders distinguish a Duesenberg from a Cadillac or a Hispano-Suiza. Eventually, most mainstream cars also carried some sort of sculpture up front as well. Some of these design flourishes became truly iconic like the Rolls-Royce "Spirit of Ecstasy", Bentley's "Flying B", the Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star, and, of course, Jaguar's leaper. <br />
<br />
In recent decades, however, the combination of cost reduction, attention to aerodynamics and safety concerns have seen the elimination of most hood ornaments. A few remain on modern automobiles, but by and large, the best place to enjoy the artistry inherent in grille-mounted statuary are at events like the Meadowbrook Hall Concours. Enjoy our high-res gallery.<br />

<div align="center"><em><strong><small>1971 McLaren M8F Can-Am - click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />These days, McLaren is mostly known for the silver and red Mercedes powered Formula One cars and the SLRs it has built for its German partner. However, founder Bruce McLaren started building his own race cars in 1964 and five years later, he opened up a shop in Livonia, Michigan to focus on developing engines for his Can-Am cars. This year marks the 40th anniversary of McLaren Engines and to celebrate the owners of three classic McLaren racers brought them them to the Meadowbrook Hall Concours this weekend. <br /><br />In their time, all three of these machines were often dominant in their respective series. In the classic Can-Am series the various McLaren M8 models and then the M20 were truly the cars to beat in the late 1960s up to 1971. That, of course, was when the mighty turbocharged flat-12 Porsche 917s arrived and ran away with the series. <br /><br />The open wheeler on display here is a 1974 M16-C/D, variations of which ran at Indy and other other USAC Champ car races from 1970 to 1982. Forty years on, McLaren Engines is still around but no longer affiliated with the U.K. company. <br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-2009-mclaren-race-cars">Meadowbrook 2009: McLaren race cars</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-2009-mclaren-race-cars/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/mclaren-racers-1280-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-2009-mclaren-race-cars/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/mclaren-racers-1280-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-2009-mclaren-race-cars/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours006mclarens_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-2009-mclaren-race-cars/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/mclaren-racers-1280-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-2009-mclaren-race-cars/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/mclaren-racers-1280-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Sam Abuelsamid / Max Abuelsamid / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/03/meadow-brook-concours-2009-mclaren-racers-40-years-later/">Meadow Brook Concours 2009: McLaren racers, 40 years later</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 03 Aug 2009 11:28:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>1967 Ferrari Dino 206 Competizione by Pininfarina - click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />The name James Glickenhaus should be familiar to Autoblog readers. He is, of course, the gentlemen who commissioned the marvelous Enzo-derived Ferrari P4/5 several years ago. He's also the kind of wealthy car collector who most, if not all members, of Autoblog would choose to be in that alternate universe where we are <em>all </em>wealthy car collectors. That is to say, Glickenhaus doesn't just squirrel away his incredibly rare cars in a climate-controlled warehouse; he takes 'em out an drives 'em as God (and the Italians) intended. <br /><br />One of Glickenhaus's more recent acquisitions is the 1967 Ferrari Dino 206 Competizione by Pininfarina. The diminutive gull-wing concept was built by Ferrari and its styling partner Pininfarina in 1967 as a design study and an experiment in aerodynamics. It was never intended for production, but lessons learned from it were eventually applied to other cars. The Dino 206 Competizione lived in the Pininfarina museum for more than three decades until 2007 when, after several years of pestering, the design house finally agreed to sell it to Glickenhaus. It won best in class here at Meadow Brook against some strong competition, including Glickenhaus's own 1967 Ferrari 330 P3/4 Spyder and a wonderful Austin Healey 3000. And yes, Glickenhaus told us he drives this one-of-a-kind machine regularly. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by-pininfarina">Meadowbrook Concours 2009: 1967 Ferrari Dino 206 Competizione by Pininfarina</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by-pininfarina/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/glickenhaus-dino-1280-2-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by-pininfarina/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/glickenhaus-dino-1280-2-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by-pininfarina/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/glickenhaus-dino-1280-2-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by-pininfarina/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours055ferrari_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by-pininfarina/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours057ferrari_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Sam Abuelsamid / Max Abuelsamid / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/02/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by/">Meadow Brook Concours 2009: 1967 Ferrari Dino 206 Competizione by Pininfarina</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 02 Aug 2009 20:00:00 EST. <small> <br />
</small>Monterey, Meadow Brook, and Michael, oh my! This August offers plenty of action for all types of car lovers. The <a href="http://www.mbconcours.org/">Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance</a> launches the month in style, along with the <a href="http://www.sema.org/sema-show-n-shine">SEMA Show 'n Shine</a> half a continent away in Pasadena. For folks who are going to be near Reno, the annual <a href="http://www.hotaugustnights.net/">Hot August Nights</a> show hits the biggest little city in the world this month as well. The biggest events for the Autoblog crew (as well as thousands of others) will be the <a href="http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com/">Woodward Dream Cruise</a> and the week-long classic car fest in Monterey, California, capped off by the world-renowned <a href="http://www.pebblebeachconcours.net">Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance</a>.<br />
<br />
There's lots of racing action, too, most notably the return of seven-time <a href="http://www.formula1.com">Formula 1</a> World Champion Michael Schumacher to the cockpit for Ferrari in Spain. The world's premier racing series also visits Spa at the end of the month. Meanwhile, <a href="http://www.americanlemans.com">ALMS</a> makes stops at Mid-Ohio, Road America and Mosport; <a href="http://www.indycar.com">IndyCar</a> hits Kentucky, Mid-Ohio, Infineon Raceway and Chicago; and <a href="http://www.nascar.com">NASCAR</a> fans can look forward to races at Pocono, Watkins Glen, MIS and Bristol.<br />
<br />
If none of those events appeal to you, check the Google Calendar <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/27/event-alert-august-calendar-of-automotive-events/">after the jump</a> for even more listings, all with detailed info and links. In the courtyard there were an array of more modern vehicles of the exotic variety. In addition to the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione that debuted here earlier in the week, were cars ranging from the nearly affordable to the ridiculous. <br /><br />At the financially sane (if not practical) end of the spectrum were the Lotus Exige and the 2008 Dodge Viper. Higher up the ladder were the Spyker, Murcielago and Ferrari 599. At opposite ends of the courtyard sat one of the still uncrunched Ferrari Enzos and a Bugatti Veyron. Something for every budget from the mearly wealthy to the obscenely rich. Enjoy the gallery. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-meadow-brook-concours-modern-supercars">2007 Meadow Brook Concours: Modern Supercars</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-meadow-brook-concours-modern-supercars/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/img_8844_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-meadow-brook-concours-modern-supercars/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/img_8897_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-meadow-brook-concours-modern-supercars/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/img_8872_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-meadow-brook-concours-modern-supercars/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/img_8883_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-meadow-brook-concours-modern-supercars/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/img_8890_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/07/meadow-brook-concours-2007-modern-supercars/">Meadow Brook Concours 2007: Modern supercars</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 07 Aug 2007 13:04:00 EST. The 29th annual Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance will be taking place Sunday, August 5 and will feature 225 vintage automobiles. A special display will include three of the famous Alfa Romeo B.A.T. cars from 1953-55. The B.A.T. or <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_BAT">Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica</a> cars were aerodynamic research concepts developed by Bertone and they introduced styling elements that showed up on production vehicles well into the 1960s. <br /><br />Also on display on the lawn at Meadow Brook Hall will be forty vintage four-cylinder motorcycles and the 1931 Bugatti Royale from the Henry Ford Museum. In preparation for this show, the Royale has been carefully rejuvenated and is running for the first time in more than two decades.
