McLaren has been doing a lot more with its P1 hypercar than just lending it to Jay Leno and renting out the Top Gear test track. The Brits have shipped the monstrous hybrid over to the American Southwest for dedicated hot weather testing and a few laps at some of the local race tracks (as seen here, we think they're at the Streets of Willow Springs, feel free to correct us in Comments).
We've heard engine noise from the McLaren P1 before, most recently from its run up the hill at Goodwood, and when McLaren F1 driver Sergio Perez lapped the Top Gear test track. But those sound clips have been from inside the cabin, and while plenty throaty, rather sedate.
As we wait for the McLaren P1 to enter production, it appears there are still some growing pains with the $1.14-million hybrid supercar. While on display at Italy's recent Villa d'Este Concorso d'Eleganza, this P1 – which appears to be the same one we saw at the Geneva Motor Show – failed to awaken from its slumber when called upon. As there is no escaping from cameras these days, you'll be unsurprised to learn that at least one attentive attendee captured it all on video.
