<br />
Mazda has just dropped off a bunch of info about their next-generation clean engines that will be officially unveiled at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Tokyo-Motor-Show/">Tokyo Motor Show</a> in October, and we have two words for you: Direct and Diesel. Along with its next-gen 'Mazda SKY Drive' high-efficiency automatic transmissions, visitors to the at 41st Tokyo Motor Show will get to see the 'Mazda SKY-G' direct injection gas engine and the 'Mazda SKY-D' clean diesel engine. The house of Zoom-Zoom is hoping to use these advanced technologies to boost their corporate average fuel economy by a whopping 30% between 2008 and 2015.<br />
<br />
In typical Mazda fashion, they want everyone to know that they haven't given up on driving excitement in their move to more eco-friendly fare - the Japanese automaker is out to prove that 'fun' and 'green' don't have to be mutually exclusive terms. The Mazda SKY display area will be broken into "Technologies for Today, Tomorrow and The Future." The Today area will show off things like i-stop, the idle start-stop feature that debuted on the 2010 Mazda3. The Future area will host the rotary-powered Mazda Premacy Hydrogen RE Hybrid, among other things. But the one we're really waiting to see is the updated Mazda Kiyora concept.<br />
<br />
The Kiyora is a lightweight concept first shown in Paris last year. For Tokyo it's powered by a new 1.3-liter direct injection engine. It will travel 32 kilometers per liter of fuel (under Japan's 10-15 mode test cycle) - that's 75 mpg - and promises lots of smiles per gallon as well. Besides that new SKY engine, the Kiyora will also feature the new Mazda SKY-Drive six-speed automatic transmission, i-stop, regenerative braking, and super-slick aerodynamics. It also weighs at least 100 kg less than any other car in the company's current lineup. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/28/tokyo-2009-mazda-debuts-next-gen-sky-clean-engines-transmissio/">Follow the jump</a> for more details from the official press release and check out the high-res gallery below.<br />

At least, that's the case if the little Mazda caught in <em>Evo</em>'s spy shots is actually the Mazda1. <br /><br /><em>Evo</em> makes a compelling case for the car actually being the Mazda1 - not merely a revised Mazda2. Save for the ascending shoulder line (now moved to shoulder height, way above the rocker panels as on the Kiyora) the prototype has almost nothing in common with the design of the swoopy Paris beastlet. At the very least, we hope this car comes with the concept car's tech, but we won't know for certain until the car's expected launch at September's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Frankfurt-Auto-Show/">Frankfurt Auto Show</a>.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evospyshots/234623/mazda_1.html">Evo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/25/spy-shots-if-this-is-it-the-mazda1-looks-nothing-like-kiyora-c/">Spy Shots: If this is it, the Mazda1 looks nothing like Kiyora concept</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 25 Mar 2009 09:26:00 EST. <br />According to president and CEO James Muir, the company would like to go a bit upmarket, attracting buyers looking for an aspirational brand. We're okay with that as long as Mazda's don't lose their sporty edge in the process. To make the transition, the automaker is looking to offer more variations of models already in its line and to add a few new ones. A new entry-level model could show up first, drawing styling cues from the company's radical concept cars such as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/02/paris-2008-mazda-kiyora-concept/">Kiyora concept</a> recently shown as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ParisMotorShow/">Paris Motor Show</a>. That new city car could be known as the Mazda1. A small crossover is also on the drawing board and was previewed by the awesome <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/26/moscow-2008-mazda-kazamai-concept-officially-unveiled/">Kazamai concept</a> from Moscow. <br /><br />Also present and accounted for is the rumor that just won't die: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/28/rumormill-2012-mazda-rx-9-real-or-fake/">a new RX-7</a>, which would undoubtedly be powered by a version of Mazda's unique Renesis rotary engine. We'd expect the new RX to be a bit more than just an RX-8 with its rear doors lopped off, as the 7 has always been Mazda's top performer. That new halo car would complement the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/26/mazda-next-mx-5-will-be-radical/">more aggressive MX-5</a> that the automaker is currently working on.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kazamai-concept-1/low/">Mazda Kazamai Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kazamai-concept-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/kazamai_1280_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kazamai-concept-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/kazamai_1280_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kazamai-concept-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/kazamai_1280_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kazamai-concept-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/01_live_kazamai_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kazamai-concept-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/02_live_kazamai_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle.aspx?AR=235412">Autocar</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/16/mazda-set-to-expand-range/">Mazda set to expand range</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 16 Oct 2008 13:59:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a high-res gallery of the Mazda Kiyora</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Like so many shows in recent memory, part of the theme in Paris is "green." So in addition to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/02/paris-2008-nissan-nuvu-ev/">Nissan Nuvu </a>micro EV, Mazda took the wraps off yet another Nagare-themed concept, the Kiyora.<br /><br />Taking inspiration from past design studies and its Japanese name, which translates to "clean and pure," the Kiyora will influence Mazda's next city car, due to replace the Mazda2 in the middle of the next decade. Measuring in at 3,770mm, the four-seat city car features a 1.3-liter gasoline-powered engine with direct injection and more efficient combustion chambers mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. Weight and aerodynamics are two key elements of the Kiyora, and with a body made almost entirely of carbon fiber and a drag reduced by 10 percent over the current Mazda2, the diminutive city car would put out less than 90g/km of CO2... if it goes into production.<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Check the press release below the fold.</span><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kiyora-live/low/">Mazda Kiyora LIVE</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kiyora-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/01_mazda_kiyora_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kiyora-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/02_mazda_kiyora_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kiyora-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/03_mazda_kiyora_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kiyora-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/04_mazda_kiyora_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kiyora-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/05_mazda_kiyora_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/02/paris-2008-mazda-kiyora-concept/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Paris 2008: Mazda Kiyora concept</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/02/paris-2008-mazda-kiyora-concept/">Paris 2008: Mazda Kiyora concept</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 02 Oct 2008 06:02:00 EST. No additional details have been relayed at this time, other than it's supposed to be lightweight and efficient, in keeping with Mazda's "Sustainable Zoom-Zoom" approach. (As an aside, you should know that it's quite amusing to watch grown adults actually <em>say </em>this stuff with a straight face at press conferences.) Also officially confirmed now is the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-mazda-mx-5/1017021/">updated MX-5</a>, complete with the new happy face that hit the web on Wednesday. It's joined by the Mazda6 MZR-CD 2.2L diesel and the Mazda2 MZ-CD 1.6L diesel, both of which are also world premieres. As always, we'll be in Paris to bring it to you live next month.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kiyora-concept/low/">Mazda Kiyora Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kiyora-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/image48448_c_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kiyora-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/image48449_c_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-kiyora-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/image48450_c_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Mazda]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/04/mazda-kiyora-city-car-concept-mx-5-facelift-head-to-paris/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mazda Kiyora city car concept, MX-5 facelift head to Paris</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/04/mazda-kiyora-city-car-concept-mx-5-facelift-head-to-paris/">Mazda Kiyora city car concept, MX-5 facelift head to Paris</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 04 Sep 2008 06:00:00 EST.
