The Christmas season is getting more sideways every year. Recently, Mercedes-Benz and its AMG performance division showed us a new way to cook Christmas cookies, and now rival BMW Switzerland is presenting a new way to speed up seasonal caroling. It put four members of the Zurich Acapella Group in an M135i and instructed them to sing Jingle Bells while driver Martin Tomczyk flogged the hot hatch around the Circuit de L'Anneau du Rhin at the same time.

The result is The Fastest Christmas Song in the World, and you can watch it in the video below. And for you Pinterest fans, the behind-the-scenes photos are pinned all over your favorite online photo album site.
Continue reading BMW M135i bids for world's fastest Christmas song

BMW M135i bids for world's fastest Christmas song originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 17 Dec 2012 17:58:00 EST.
This season marks the end of an era for DTM. Next year the German touring car series switches to new regulations, the new cars will all be coupe-based (or at least look like coupes) and BMW joins in on the action. And with this chapter in DTM history closing, Audi has gone down in history as the undisputed champions. Or at least one of its drivers has.

With one round still to go, Martin Tomczyk holds such an unassailable lead in the standings as to be crowned champion a race early. The death blow was dealt to his rivals when Tomczyk came in third place this past weekend at the penultimate round in Valencia - one of a handful of DTM races held outside Germany - as part of an Audi-dominated 1-2-3-4-5-6 finish that relegated Mercedes-AMG drivers Bruno Spengler and Gary Paffett to seventh and eighth place.

Perhaps most surprising is that Tomczyk - 29 years old from Bavaria - was not even driving the latest car which two-time former champion, Audi poster boy and winner of the race in Valencia, Mattias Ekstrom, has at his disposal. No, Tomczyk managed to beat out everyone else with a car that's three years old.

Tomczyk will presumably be driving the new A5 DTM next season, and it'll be worth watching to see him defend his title against the returning challengers from Mercedes and the new contenders from BMW, not to mention his own Audi-driving rivals. Follow the jump for the pair of press releases.
Continue reading Audi takes DTM title in spectacular style

Audi takes DTM title in spectacular style originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 17:32:00 EST. At the series' most recent event in Barcelona, Audi motorsport boss Wolfgang Ullrich instructed all his drivers to park their cars midway though the race.

The reason behind the controversial decision was because of what Audi claims was rough treatment by several Mercedes-Benz drivers. During the race, a number of Audi drivers were bumped off the track by their Mercedes rivals. In one incident, Audi's Martin Tomczyk took the lead before he was bumped off the track by two-time Formula 1 World Champion Mika Hakkinen. After attempting to restart, Tomczyk was forced to retire because of damage to his radiator. All remaining Audi drivers were then ordered to retire because of fears of further damage at the hands of Mercedes' unscrupulous tactics.

The two Mercedes drivers involved were penalized for the incidents after the race with fines as well as a ten-place grid penalty at the championship finale in Hockenheim next month.

[Source: Speed TV]
Continue reading Audi calls unnecessary roughness on Mercedes in DTM racing

Audi calls unnecessary roughness on Mercedes in DTM racing originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 25 Sep 2007 19:33:00 EST.
