J.D. Power has put the early returns for March sales down 40% compared to the same month last year. It predicts sales of 633,000 cars to retail customers and another 165,000 to fleet customers for March of this year versus a March 2008 total of 1.07 million total sales. That would be an annualized rate of 9.2 million vehicles.

J.D. Power thinks "improvements on Wall Street and a boost in consumer confidence will help to bring the market back." We are not experts on the economy, but we don't know where such predictions come from, especially seeing that jobs are still being shed in the tens of thousands and boisterous Wall Street "improvements" are what got us here in the first place. For now, we'll light another candle for the car industry and hope things turn around for everyone soon.

[Source: CNN]
Early March sales figures said to be down around 40% originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 26 Mar 2009 18:30:00 EST. Ford's chief sales analyst George Piper told Reuters today that retail sales will fall thanks to weaker demand for the F-150, while fleet sales will continue to drop as expected. Those combined losses will apparently add up to sales that are at least down by 10%, if not more.

Clearly the F-150 is seriously feeling the hurt, as newer competition from GM and Toyota are vying for F-150 customers, and the current weak housing market means construction companies just aren't buying the F-Series like they were last year. The brand's Daily Average Sales Rate fell 15.2% in February and a whopping 25.2 percent in January, and it seems apparent that when automakers report their numbers next Tuesday, Ford will continue the trend.

[Source: Automotive News]
Ford sales in March will show double digit decline originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 30 Mar 2007 16:02:00 EST. Meanwhile, MercedesCar Group racked up sales of 138,400 units, up 17.4 percent, setting an all-time record. But in the all-important corebrands, Mercedes-Benz scored 125,400 sales, while arch-rival BMW managed only 122,509 units.

Once again, newmodels tell the tale. Mercedes-Benz rolled out new or revamped models across the board last year, including freshversions of the M-Class and S-Class, and the new R-Class and B-Class. The onslaught continues this year with the newGL-CLass SUV (pictured) and freshened SL- and E-Class models. BMW, on the other hand, has been surfing the wavegenerated by its new 3 Series, which accounts for about 40 percent of all BMW sales.

While Mercedes looks tobe surging ahead in the near-term, expect BMW to fight back when its revamped MINI line rolls out.

[Source:Reuters, Mercedes Benz]
Teutonic titans Benz and BMW battle amidst record March sales originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 08 Apr 2006 14:04:00 EST.
