Japan's Premier Luxury Cruiser Now Comes With An Enthusiast Option

It's been leak city for the 2013 Lexus LS line, allowing us to catch the exteriors of the LS 460 L and LS 460 F Sport from practically every angle. The spindle grille might be the most prominent story of the refreshed LS – otherwise there are no monumental changes to the body, but plenty of details did decide to wait for the Lexus luxury flagship's official unveiling in San Francisco.

Picking up a used luxury car is a great way to save some coin. Letting the previous owner take the fall on depreciation is a smart move, but it's worth remembering that high-end autos carry with them high-end maintenance and repair costs. Using Edmunds.com data, 24/7 Wall Street has compiled what it says are the 10 most expensive vehicles to own, and the list is populated by some not-so-surprising names. BMW and Mercedes-Benz soak up the lion's share of the offenders, though other manufactures m

We hope you like the look of the new Lexus GS. The Japanese luxury automaker has made it clear it aims to spread the new "spindle" grille found on the sedan across the brand. During an interview with Takayuki Katsuda, chief engineer for the RX line, four teaser images were splashed across the screen, including what looks to be the next-generation LS. If that's true, the model will wear a heavily accented version of the Predator maw, complete with a chrome or brushed metal accent frame. Likewise,

True to predictions, The Detroit News is reporting that Lexus has issued a stop sale on its LS 460 and LS 600h (standard and long-wheelbase) luxury sedans due to a problem with the electronic steering system that can temporarily cause the steering wheel to become off-centered. Apparently, the wheel will return to its correct position after about five seconds of misalignment. Toyota issued a recall on Friday, May 21st to address the defect. Offsetting the GX and LX opulence-filled 'Utes posessed of large mass, Lexus has trotted out an advertising blitz focusing on its Hybrid vehicles. The campaign, which imagines a world without "H," points out that Lexus has had hybrid cars and SUVs on the road since 2004. The new campaign is titled "the power of h" and features television spots, print spreads, and other media that depicts an environment where H has given up all other pursuits for a post in the Lexus Hybrid revolution. It's clever

Remember when the Lexus LS 600h was on the way, and there was head-scratching aplenty about the $100K+ price and the delay? At the time, Lexus said it only planned to sell 2,000 of the hybrid cruisers per year, and that they already had orders for 1,650 of them. Then the car came out, and in spite of being treated rather unkindly by the motoring press and boasting a less-than-stellar MPG improvement, it has sold 6,093 worldwide through October. The car only went on sale in July.

When Lexus decided to take on the top dogs from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi they took a different path. While the Germans offer the choice of either big gasoline V-12s or turbo-diesel V-8s, Lexus wanted offer the best of both worlds. Thus the LS600h was born. The big LS mates a 5.0L V-8 with the latest version of Toyota's hybrid synergy drive system to produce the most expensive hybrid yet.

Back in early February we showed you a video of the Lexus LS600h drivetrain in action. The combination of the V-8 power-plant and Toyota's hybrid Synergy drive will give an output of over 430hp in the long wheelbase version of the LS. Clearly this application is configured more for propelling the big sedan quickly than it is for fuel efficiency. On the other hand it will surely use quite a bit less gasoline than an equivalent 6.0L V-12 would. Of course all of this motivation and luxury is going

We've already heard the details of Lexus' next hybrid vehicle, the LS 600h, but now that the world's first full hybrid V8 powertrain vehicle has had it's European premiere at the Paris Motor Show, it makes sense to take another look. The LS 600h gets a fairly decent 29.7 mpg (unfortunately, this figure is in Imperial gallons) and has all the luxury features Lexus likes to offer (multi-zone automatic climate control air conditioning system that can react to human body temperature, a DVD player wi

Tuesday's launch of Lexus' flagship LS460 in Japan marks a major milestone for Toyota's luxury brand, as the company tries to duplicate its success in the U.S. in other key markets, including its home turf of Japan and Europe.
