Ever wonder what would happen if the guys from Jersey Shore gained 200 pounds, went to jail for racketeering and opened a car dealership? Neither have we. In its infinite thirst for trashy reality television, Discovery Channel has decided to answer that unasked question with a new reality show called Carfellas.

It follows "da head chief" Mikey D. and his lackeys Tommie and Mario (seriously) as they attempt to extract money from hapless passerby peddling used vehicles. Complete with cigars, Cadillacs, misogyny and shots of fat hands pawing hundred-dollar bills, Carfellas looks ready to put the Nielsen ratings in a persuasive headlock. Discovery Channel will air a sneak peek at the show Monday, Aug. 29 at 10:30 after American Chopper, but we have another trailer after the jump.
Continue reading Discovery releases trailer for CarFellas reality series

Discovery releases trailer for CarFellas reality series originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 29 Aug 2011 10:31:00 EST.
According to a new Bloomberg report, jury selection has commenced in a lawsuit against Toyota stemming from the unintended acceleration debacle. Amir Sitafalwalla sued Toyota in 2008, claiming that his 2005 Scion accelerated uncontrollably and only stopped when he hit a tree.

This is the first unintended acceleration case to reach trial after Toyota recalled millions of vehicles in 2009 to fix the unintended acceleration. Sitafalwalla's case goes to trial in Central Islip, Long Island later this month.
Possibly disgruntled after being let go by Ferrari-Maserati of Fort Lauderdale-Long Island, former employees Giacomo Ciaccia, Leka Vuksanaj, and Michael Lussos started up a firm of their own called Universal Autosports, LLC. Still dealing with high end exotics at their new Koenigsegg showroom, the intrigue started for the trio when they used their prior knowledge of email accounts for Ferrari-Maserati's operation to start siphoning off the firm's emails and injecting themselves into potential deals, trying to swipe customers from their former employer.

Eventually, someone at Ferrari-Maserati noticed that emails were being forwarded to an unauthorized account, giving Universal Autosports access to information about customers, salaries, and cars at Ferrari-Maserati. Naturally, charges have been leveled, and the three alleged conspirators are out on bond while this unusual corporate espionage case works its way through the legal system. Thanks for the tip, Maciej.

[Source: Bloomberg, Photo: Universal Autosports]
Auto Espionage: Koenigsegg dealer caught spying on competing Ferrari dealer originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 23 Apr 2009 18:58:00 EST. His plan calls for the estimated $10 billion dollar project to be privately funded, with advertising and $25 tolls in each direction recovering the development costs once the tunnel opens. If ultimately approved and completed, it would consist of two 3-lane tubes plus a center maintenance/emergency access tunnel. While Oyster Bay's town supervisor, who initially called the idea "unrealistic," is waiting to see more information before passing final judgement, Westchester County officials are very opposed to the project, saying that it would transform existing traffic conditions from merely bad to completely unmanageable. Realistically, it's very hard to see this ever getting past the discussion stage, even though the idea's an interesting one. Currently, there's a ferry service between Port Jefferson, Long Island and Bridgeport, CT, where passengers can then jump on I-95 (and sit in that traffic) or transfer to commuter rail into NYC.

UPDATE: Toll Roads News has a more detailed feature than the AP report we found initially. It includes more information about the exact tunnel route, etc. The official website for the project, dubbed the Cross Sound Link, can be found here.

[Source: AP]
Developer wants to build tunnel under Long Island Sound originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 31 Jan 2008 09:31:00 EST.
