The F-150 Limited is back - more powerful, more luxurious and more expensive than any other 2013 F-150.

Ford Motor Co. is taking the wraps off the new Limited today in Dearborn. It will feature a unique look, a lush red interior and nearly every bell and whistle Ford can muster, surpassing the high-end Ford Platinum F-150.

"There's still a strong demand for luxury pickups and the Limited will help us meet that demand," said Ford spokesman Mike Levine.

Indeed, Ford says 30 percent of its pickup sales are the luxury trucks it offers such as the Lariat, Harley Davidson and King Ranch models. Each has carved out a niche, appealing to the inner street racer, biker or cowboy in need of a pickup. Currently, a Platinum F-150 rings up the top price of all F-150s, starting at $44,635. But the Limited will exceed that with its standard loaded up interior that includes everything from a moonroof and aluminum trim to heated and cooled seats.

It will also outperform its predecessor, the 2011 F-150 Limited. Ford has added its 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 under this new model's red hood, giving it 365 horsepower and up to 22 mpg on the highway. There's also standard HID headlamps, 22-inch polished aluminum wheels and that special branding of the word "Limited" on the rear quarter panel.

This truck may not be for everyone, but some drivers are going to love it.
Continue reading 2013 Ford F-150 Limited unveiled as range-topping luxury truck

2013 Ford F-150 Limited unveiled as range-topping luxury truck originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 26 Jun 2012 00:01:00 EST. To commemorate, it has launched Limited versions of both the Wagon R and its Stingray variant (whose front-end styling looks very similar to the old Toyota bB). The new limited edition variants give Japanese drivers slightly flashier boxes in which to transport themselves. Among the features included in the cars' special packages are new grilles and foglamps, Alcantara-covered seats, leather-wrapped steering wheels with silver contrast stitching, and rearview mirrors with LED turn indicators. The 660cc kei-spec engine is untouched, and the cars can be ordered beginning today. Prices range from ¥1,115,000 for the 2WD Wagon R to ¥1,314,600 for the 4WD Stingray. Needless to say, we want both.

Gallery: 2008 Suzuki Wagon R Limited & Stingray Limited

[Source: Suzuki]
Suzuki Wagon R, Stingray Limited editions intro'd in Japan originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 04 Jun 2008 10:02:00 EST.
2008 Toyota Sequoia - Click above for high-res image gallery

Gigantor. The 2008 Toyota Sequoia arrives humongously revised from the already beefy first-generation. The Timberland Mica (Metallic Green) example that Toyota lent us for a week definitely deserves whatever size-related superlatives you can dream up. It's big, it's powerful, it doesn't sip fuel. There is a need and a market for this type of vehicle, however. If Sequoia buyers don't actually utilize its considerable capabilities, that's not Toyota's fault. This year marks the migration of Toyota's full size Sport Utility to the same mechanicals that underpin the new Tundra, ladling on capability to an already fairly competent and refined vehicle.

Gallery: Review: 2008 Toyota Sequoia Limited 4x4

All photos (C)2008 Dan Roth / Weblogs, Inc.
Continue reading Review: 2008 Toyota Sequoia Limited

Review: 2008 Toyota Sequoia Limited originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 07 Mar 2008 13:57:00 EST. It's also home territory for the loved and loathed Red Sox. There's plenty of cars plastered with "B" stickers, license plates and trinkum. Long a sponsor of Red Sox baseball, Volvo's rolled out a special edition of its stubby C30. The Kammback hatch comes with a factory-fitted Team logo stuck to the glass of the rear hatch, fender badges and a distinctive shade of red. This regionally pimped Volvo is a limited edition, with only 107 examples being produced.

If baseball (or just the Red Sox) isn't your thing, Volvo's got an Ocean Race Edition that spans the V70, XC70 and XC90 models. Ocean Race cars have been available a couple of times before, sporting Ocean Blue paint and nautical detailing, and the new Ocean Race themed cars continue to tie in with the actual sailing event. New this time around is the availability of Ocean Race models in Electric Silver as well as Ocean Blue. Interior details are more evocative of sailing, and new wheels draw inspiration from the undulation of the ocean. Volvo expects to shift 9,000 of these maritime units, which should make it easy enough to find a limited production Volvo, even if you miss out on the baseball themed C30. Ocean Race press release after the jump

Gallery: Special Edition Volvos

[Source: Volvo]
Continue reading Bats and Boats - Special edition Volvos for Bo' Sox fans and sailors alike

Bats and Boats - Special edition Volvos for Bo' Sox fans and sailors alike originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 06 Mar 2008 08:57:00 EST.
The Maserati Quattroporte is without a doubt one of our favorite sports sedans, exuding the kind of exotic Italian craftsmanship usually reserved for supercars and two-door GTs. But with a facelift around the corner, the Trident marque has been keeping the sensuous sedan fresh with ever more desirable editions.

The latest is the Quattroporte Collezione Cento, unveiled here at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. If you have a grasp of any romance language, you'll have guessed that the Collezione Cento is limited to a 100 examples, each individually numbered. It features a special ivory tint with a beautiful quilted Cuoio dark tan leather interior, and comes equipped with the company's multimedia entertainment system, a keyboard built in to the rear center armrest, iPod and USB connectivity, web access and DVDs displayed on twin 10.4" touch-screens mounted in the front seatbacks.

We have a selection of live shots from the show floor as well as the press shots in the gallery below, and the official press release can be read after the jump.

More recently, however, a third division has emerged, with the responsibility of conducting the company's ever-increasing marketing enterprise. The Global Branding Division itself seems to be following two tracks: licensing products as exclusive as the road cars and targeted towards their owners, and marketing merchandise to the Scuderia's enormous fan base.

Take for example the ever-popular Ferrari wrist watches: the company teamed up with Swiss watchmakers Panerai to offer a line of exquisite timepieces at big prices, all the while offering the common racing fan a less complicated, lower-cost wristwatch. Ferrari appears to be offering branded mobile phones along the same strategy: the company teams up with Vertu to offer exclusive four-figure devices to Ferrari owners, and with Motorola for more cost-effective (but assuredly still plenty pricey) cell phones.

The latest to fit into the strategy is this Ferrari-edition Motorola Z8, complete with red accents and Ferrari logos, and loaded with special content, including videos, ring-tones and wallpapers. For some reason it even comes loaded with "The Bourne Identity" in mobile format.

Prices haven't yet been released, but while the Vertu sells for thousands, the previous Motorola RAZR Maxx V6 Ferrari Challenge retailed for a more manageable $524. The Motorola Z8 Ferrari will be available from Ferrari Stores and select Motorola retailers. Unfortunately for anyone reading this and thinking it would make a great Christmas gift for a certain special someone, it won't be available until after the new year, so consider putting a personal voucher in with the card instead.

[Source: Kataweb via Unwired View, Motorpasion and CarScoop]
Continue reading Upwardly Mobile: Ferrari edition Motorola Z8

Upwardly Mobile: Ferrari edition Motorola Z8 originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 20 Dec 2007 20:02:00 EST.

Good keeps getting better over at Aston Martin, who never seem to tire of making their sports cars faster and faster. The latest in the speed wars from their new headquarters in Gaydon is this adrenaline-dripping special-edition V12 Vantage RS.

Into what could very well prove to be the fastest, hottest Aston Martin yet, the newly independent British automaker has dropped the V12 reactor not from the recently demised Vanquish, nofrom the road-going DB9 or Bond-tastic DBS derivative, but from the DBRS9 race car. With somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 horsepower (!) pushing 3500 lbs, the V12 Vantage RS is anticipated to clock a 0-60 time in the 3's on its way to a 200-mph top speed. Performance target: Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. That's highly ambitious, considering that the Fiorano is widely acclaimed as one of the most competent supercars on the planet, but with that kind of juice in such a brilliant package as the Vantage's, it might not be so far-fetched.

At the time of writing, AutoWeek was the only source carrying the information, and we hope to have more details soon on the special Vantage which was unveiled earlier today on the occasion of the company's new design center. Although it was launched as a concept, sources suggest it could very well find its way into limited production and slot into the Aston Martin line-up above the current flagship DBS. We certainly hope so.

We don't know what took them so long, seeing as this Lariat's a bit of a looker. Sporting a White Sand Metallic finish that also trims the grillework and the factory 22-inchers, the snappy-looking SuperCrew doesn't stop there. Chrome running boards, gray headlight bezels, smoked taillamp lenses, a two-tone leather-trimmed interior and some other cabin accents round out the new limited package. Sorry, no pricing yet. Maybe one of these days, Ford'll actually get around to releasing a shot of the fancy interior, too.

UPDATE: Video added after the jump, including interior.
Most special editions are offered to help manufacturers clear out the last run of an outgoing model before the replacement arrives. The smallest cars on the market, though, seem to have it backwards. When Smart introduced its new ForTwo city car, the special edition came not on the outgoing model, but on the incoming one. Now Fiat has revealed that, in advance of the introduction of the highly-anticipated 500, it will be offering a limited edition of its own.

Think the 500 looks no bigger than a large arm chair? Well, you're not far off. The special Cinquecentos are being offered exclusively during the International Milan Furniture Fair (April 18-23), as part of a promotion staged in conjunction with the Italian design house Cappellini. Two special versions - one in light blue and one in pearl white - will be offered to visitors of the "500 Lounge" at the Cappellini Temporary Store at the Piazza San Babila in downtown Milan, who can sign a non-binding inquiry to have their name placed on the list, later to be contacted by Fiat with pricing information and the option to buy or withdraw.

The Cappellini display will also feature a 250-square-meter autostethoscopic system at the entrance to the store, where interested customers can customize a virtual 500 on computer and then step inside the box to see a full-size 3D projection of what their car would look like, taking the "500 Wants You" campaign to a new level. Only 500 of the special editions will be made, and each will receive a special number plate and special badging.

Check out the press release after the jump for more details.

Vertu has long been cultivating an image of association with the pinnacle of automotive excellence through their branding, use of materials and special editions. The latest effort is a collaboration with Ferrari, that Italian stallion that seemingly manages to get its name on everything these days.

Following on the heels of the exclusive Racetrack Legends series, the Ferrari Challenge edition is likewise based on the sporty Ascent handset that features proprietary "liquid alloy" construction, jewel bearings, a sapphire crystal screen and distinctive leather trim. The Ferrari version is differentiated by a Prancing Horse emblem near the mouthpiece, black and red leather with embossed Ferrari insignia, and a drilled accelerator pedal on the back.

No, that's not Kiefer Sutherlands favorite number, it's the number of units Spyker will build of this ultra limited-edition C12 Zagato. Designed in conjunction with the famed Zagato styling house that brought us such cars as the old Aston Martin DB4 Zagato and the newer Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Zagato Coupe, the C12 Zagato was designed in the wake of Spyker of acquiring the Midland Formula 1 team and therefore incorporates some F1 design cues into long and highly ornate body.

Based on Spyker's flagship C12 model, the Zagato version uses a 6.0L W12 engine sourced from the only company in the world who makes those engines - Volkswagen. Here it produces 500bhp (a supercharger can be added that bumps power to 650bhp) and will launch the relatively lightweight (3,086 lbs.) C12 Zagato to 60 mph in a short 3.8 seconds on its way to a top speed of 193 mph.

From all reports, Spyker's handle about as well as a 1989 Chevy Silverado (we've never driven one ourselves, and probably won't now), so we know that people buy them for the rolling art they are. The C12 Zagato is no exception and manages to combine the familiar aeronautical cues for which Spyker is known (check out the propeller blade wheels) with an F1-inspired nose that we hope is functional to some degree. Is it pretty to look at? We'll let you be the judge, but it is very rare and at €495,000 ($648,000 USD), very expensive.

Check out official high-res shots and our own live shots of the Spyker C12 Zagato in our gallery, and pore over the press release after the jump.

[Source: Spyker]

Gallery: Spyker C12 Zagato

Continue reading Geneva Motor Show: Spyker C12 Zagato wows Geneva crowd

Geneva Motor Show: Spyker C12 Zagato wows Geneva crowd originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 06 Mar 2007 11:13:00 EST.
As if we needed another reason to lust after even an entry-level Alfa Romeo, the Italian carmaker has taken the wraps off its latest special edition: the 147 Collezione.

The Collezione edition comes packed with standard features, including seventeen-inch multi-spoked alloy rims, a distinctive leather interior, steering-wheel mounted controls, climate control, alarm, six airbags, ABS with electronic brake distribution and traction control.

It's available in three exterior colors and interior leather packages of rosso/nero, grigio/nero or nero/beige (that's red with black leather, grey with black, or black with tan for those of us less adept with the romance languages). Buyers can opt for the three-door or five-door models with a choice of 120hp engines running on either gasoline or diesel - but the diesel shaves a full second off the 0-60 time.

Press release after the jump.

Not much in the way of details is known at this point, but reports suggest the Diatto Ottovu Zagato will feature an aluminum construction and possibly a front-mounted supercharged V8 sourced from Maserati.

Diatto was among the original motor-carriage makers, starting out as a producer of horse-drawn carriages back in 1835, switching to automobiles in 1905 which it continued building through 1929. By then its illustrious list of clientele included kings and queens as well as Enzo Ferrari himself.

This won't be the first Diatto coachbuilt by Zagato: Diatto was among Zagato's first clients when the Italian design house re-bodied its automobiles over 85 years ago. And if the rumors are true, this won't be the first Diatto with a bit of Maserati inside, either: Alfieri Maserati cut his proverbial teeth working for Diatto before leaving to establish his own company in 1926.

Reviving long-lost classic marques has been all the rage in the automobile industry in recent years. We're hoping Zagato's new Diatto will come closer to Volkswagen's Bugatti than Mercedes' Maybach.

Though it's hard to tell, there's a new Mini in town. The convertible version won't get the facelift for another couple years, however. So to keep an old model interesting to buyers, they've done what every automaker does: a special edition!

The Mini Convertible Sidewalk takes the outgoing Mini cabrio and stuffs it with a host of special equipment and standard features bundled into a comprehensive package for the Anglophile open-air motoring enthusiast. The Sidewalk is available in five special exterior colors (two silvers, a green, a black and an off-white) with a special set of black-and-silver 17-inch rims. But inside's where the action's at: the Sidewalk gets a special (and especially sumptuous) leather package in rich medium brown with white piping. Of course, it also gets special badging all over lest a passer-by think this is an ordinary Mini.

Nothing groundbreaking here, just a leather-lined new spin on an old model.

Auto Shows

For a brand with such an "intelligent" name, Smart sure seems to do things backwards. Usually special edition models are released at the end of a model's lifecycle to try to boost sales before its replacement. But DaimlerChrysler have opted instead to release the new Smart ForTwo with the "edition limited one." The special version represents the new-generation ForTwo as the updated city-car makes its public debut at the Bologna Motor Show currently underway. Why Bologna, of all places, you wonder? Despite its own substantial domestic automotive industry, Italy is the largest market for the ForTwo. (Must be the Vespa-esque appeal.)

Like any other "special edition," the Smart ForTwo Edition Limited One is essentially the same as the regular version, only with special colors and a few options packages included. 1500 examples of the Edition Limited One will be produced, most immediately identified by what DCX calls a "pyrite grey metallic" paint job. Complimenting the pseudo-military greenish-grey tint are silver accents in the "Tridion" safety cell, side mirror housings and front grille. The car is only available in the coupe bodystyle, with a panoramic glass roof. The Edition Limited One also gets 15-inch six-spoke alloys.

Inside, the special ForTwo gets a unique "nappa leather" package, covering the seats, steering wheel and shifter in a weathered, aged cognac-brown leather trim. Power underhood comes from the stock FourTwo 71-hp gasoline engine driving through a manu-matic five-speed. The Edition Limited One also comes equipped with a/c, heated seats, clock, radio, tachometer and cargo cover.

DCX promises the pricing for the new ForTwo will remain the same as the model it replaces, but no word on what sort of premium the Edition Limited One will command over stock. Overseas, the new ForTwo will be ready to order a month from now. Stateside we'll have to wait a bit longer for the asthmatic counter-SUV revolution to begin.

The Caped Crusader gets to drive the coolest-of-cool Batmobiles, but what does the Man of Steel get? A Yaris.

The Toyota Yairs Superman Limited Edition comes only in Superman blue, natch. And you can tell it's special from all them snazzy decals: they're on the hood, the sides and on the back - big S shields and a flying Superman sticker. Inside, the comic book dream continues with blue seats and S-shields on the steering wheel, floor mats, handbrake, shifter and even on the tissue box.

If you're retching, you can take comfort, and if you're drooling, you can take a flight (and another appointment with your shrink): this bad boy is for sale only in Indonesia, thankfully, for a thousand-dollar premium over a Clark Kent-normal Yaris. (Think, though: a thousand bucks could buy you a lot of Superman comics.)

What we want to know is what eight-year-old boy won the design contest that brought this to fruition.
