This weekend, the sun will shed light on a long-promised electric superbike at the Quail Motorcycle Gathering in Carmel, CA. In advance of this auspicious occasion, Lightning Motorcycles has sent out a teaser photo of the machine in question, which gives us a shadowy idea of what to expect. Being the kind of kids that would search our parent's room ahead of Christmas, we decided to peer into the darkness with a little photo-manipulation magic and were rewarded with a sneak peek, which we will sh
Lightning Motorcycles is no stranger to setting land speed records. It laid down a 173.388 mile-per-hour marker for electric motorcycles in 2010 on the Bonneville Salt Flats, and then upped the ante significantly in 2011 with a 215.960 mph performance on that same crystalline stage.
This weekend, the top electric motorcycle racing teams from around the world will be in Florida to contest the 2012 TTXGP World Championship at the Daytona International Speedway. This is the first time the race has been held on American shores and so, to mark the occasion – and also perhaps intimidate its competitors – North American champions Team Icon Brammo have released a sweet little video featuring one of its Empulse RR race bikes putting down some fast laps at the Oregon Race
Le Mans was the place to be last weekend for electric racing fans as both the TTXGP European and FIM ePower International championships wound up their respective 2012 seasons with a joint race – the third time this season the two organizations have teamed up for such an event.
After setting a 216 mile-per-hour land speed record on the Bonneville Salt Flats last year Lightning Motorcycles, made it known that you can purchase one of their TTXGP-winning electric bikes. While we've not yet heard of anyone taking them up on the $38,888 offer, the company is still moving forward with retail plans and has released some specs – including a range of battery options – and a sketch of what buyers might expect the consumer model to look like. (Hint: Seriously badass.)
The eGrandPrix TTXGP and FIM ePower electric motorcycle racing series have, once again, held a joint round at California's fabulous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in front of the huge crowds assembled for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix. The result? A commanding win for Michael Barnes aboard the solar-powered Barracuda Lightning bike.
Last weekend's TTXGP motorcycle races were proof that sometimes, slow and steady wins the race. Not that the four "eSuperstock" Zero S ZF9s were slow – ok, they are a bit sluggish compared to their superbike upperclassmen – but their reliability conquered all, allowing them to sweep the podium. How's that?
AddTTXGP 2012 calender includes World Championship at Daytona, joint Laguna Seca round with FIM e-Power
Good news for American fans of electric motorcycle racing. The TTXGP series has announced its calender for the 2012 season and it looks awesome. World-Championship-at-Daytona kind of awesome. And that's on top of a four-event season that includes a repeat of last year's most excellent joint round with the FIM e-Power series at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
