We'll be the first to admit that we went full geek over Tron: Legacy, and gaming website SideQuesting.com is showing its enthusiasm for the franchise by running a contest to reimagine the famous light cycle. Disney's reworked battle bikes for Legacy were brilliant, but SQ wants to see exactly what designers cruising the web can come up with on their own. There's a hitch, though: Artists are supposed to spend no longer than two hours on each submission.

Each design will be featured at SideQuesting.com, and winners will receive cool prizes including an Art of Tron: Legacy book, a white light cycle figurine and a deluxe light cycle figurine. SlideQuesting says that the total value of all the swag is around $75.

If you think you've got what it takes to work up the best design of them all, head over to SideQuesting.com for a look at the full rules and get started.

Being children of the '80s (by and large, some being a little more experienced than others, naturally), there were few things that lit a fire under our marathon Saturday afternoon television watching sprees than the movie Tron. Of course, much of that adoration had to do with the well-known but unfortunately short Light Cycle scene.

Due to this undeniable popularity, it's not surprising that all of the teasers and movie posters released for the new Tron: Legacy flick feature the rethought Light Cycles heavily... and we're certainly not complaining. These things are seriously cool. Unfortunately, Light Cycles don't exist outside the digital realm. Or do they?

Unveiled at the last Comic Con (how we missed it the first time around we don't know) was a life-sized representation of the Light Cycle 2.0. So far, we have no details on production plans or expected price. Just kidding... sadly. Click past the break to watch the most recent teaser video and check out the high-res image gallery below.

At last year's Comic-Con , one of the biggest throwbacks to '80s geekery was the surprise announcement of an update to the classic film (in our minds, at least), Tron. Attendees got a sneak peek of the new film's Light Cycle sequence, with a pair of the bikes dueling, leaving those signature, impossible-to-negotiate light trails in their wake. Mercifully, it the TR2N moniker used at the end of the clip in 2008 has given way to the much more palatable Tron Legacy. Further, while the teaser leaked onto the web briefly during last year's con, Disney's legal army shut it all down pretty quickly.

Now, a year later, that footage has been officially released for all to see at this year's convention. It seems that the Light Cycles have evolved in the intervening decades and are now much faster and more realistic in appearance. Follow the jump to see it all unfold in the the official Comic-Con 2009 teaser trailer for Tron Legacy, and do your best to hold back your inner fanboy. Oh, and one last thing - yes, that's Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Flynn, though with a decidedly darker tone than before.

[Source: Asphalt and Rubber]
Continue reading Comic-Con 2009: Tron Legacy gives the classic Light Cycle a high-tech update

Comic-Con 2009: Tron Legacy gives the classic Light Cycle a high-tech update originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 26 Jul 2009 13:20:00 EST. Jeff Bridges reprises his role as Flynn, though the character may take on a more menacing tone in part two. Teaser footage was unveiled just yesterday at the San Diego Comic Con. While Tron was just moderately successful at the box office, the film's legend has grown along with its 80s-era fans, enough to earn itself a sequel over two decades later. The Light Cycles starred in what was perhaps the original film's most iconic scene, and they make a grand comeback in Tr2n, the tentative (and very unfortunate) name of the sequel.

Seriously, watch the crappy, clandestinely-obtained footage from the convention panel after the break. Color us super excited based on this early teaser. When we see a proper copy of this, we'll likely be even more stoked. Seriously, how cool are the new Light Cycles? We think they look awesome in their new uncovered form, and the updated graphics make us hope that the new story, said to be written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz from Lost, lives up to our childhood Tron memories.

[Source: Slashfilm]
