<br />
Our jaws literally dropped when we spotted this car in the Subaru booth here at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Tokyo-Motor-Show/">Tokyo Motor Show</a>. The concoction of carbon fiber spoilers, wings and widened fenders seen here is the Legacy B4 GT300 racecar that is set to compete in Japan's Super GT series next year. The car actually made its racing debut at Fuji Speedway last month, and even though previous driveline problems prevented this racer from making an even earlier debut, the B4 GT300 managed 300 trouble-free kilometers to finish a respectable 18th place. <br />
<br />
As for specs, the Legacy B4 GT300 features a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer-four that pumps out more than 300 horsepower. With all-wheel drive, a six-speed sequential transmission, and a curb weight of just over 2800 pounds, we imagine it's an absolute blast to pilot around the track. You can see the car in detail in our high-res gallery below.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em><small>2010 Subaru Legacy Tourer 2.0D - click above image for high-res gallery</small></em></strong></div>
<br /> Led Zeppelin said it best, "The song remains the same." Especially if you're an American fan of good old station wagons. You're looking at the just-released-to-our-shepherd's-pie-eating-brethren 2010 Subaru Legacy Wagon and we (yet again) can't have it. Wah.<br /> <br /> Based entirely on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/31/first-2010-subaru-legacy-rolls-off-the-line-in-indiana/">fifth-generation Legacy</a> (built right in Indiana) the Tourer comes standard with a 2.0-liter diesel boxer mill mated to a six-speed manual transmission. That particular car, the Legacy Tourer 2.0D, can hustle itself to 60 mph in 9.5 seconds, go 120 mph and get around 38 mpg. Not bad. You can also go for the Tourer 2.5i which has a 2.5-liter gasoline boxer engine and a new "Lineartronic" CVT, notable because it's longitudinally mounted behind the boxer engine, which sounds highly efficient. The petrol-powered car is about a second slower to 60 mph and surely costs more while getting worse mileage. <br /> <br /> We would like to remind Subaru that they are selling us Americans the Outback (which is a jacked up Legacy Wagon with plastic cladding and a name derived from Paul Hogan), the Forester (another high-riding Legacy derivative with a tall roof that looks exactly like a station wagon) and the Tribeca (the less said here, the better). Oh, and the Impreza/WRX also come as five doors. Hey, the STI is wagon-only. In fact, the only car Subaru sells in the U.S. without a rear hatch is... the Legacy. Hey Subie, you know how you made all-wheel drive standard on every car and that helped to differentiate you from the competition? Why not go all wagon, all the time and see how that sets you apart? Just a suggestion. Full press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/08/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-debuts-in-uk-no-yankee-not-for-you/#continued">after the jump</a>.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-0/low/">2010 Subaru Legacy Wagon</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-0/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/slt00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-0/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/slt10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-0/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/slt20_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-0/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/slt30_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-0/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/slt40_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: Subaru]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/08/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-debuts-in-britain-no-yankee-not-for/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2010 Subaru Legacy Wagon debuts in Britain. <br />For one reason or another, we've always thought that if you delved deep enough into the history of Subaru, you'd discover the Japanese automaker is, in fact, Swedish. One can imagine rifling through the company's dusty archives, only to discover that at some point in time, through some quirk of fate - or perhaps a common love of fish - Subaru was born in Scandinavia, yet it ended up turning Japanese (I really think so). Just look at the evidence: Quirky styling? Check. Steadfast adherence to left-field drivetrains? Check. Time-honored emphasis on honest utility? Check. Willfully different clientele base? Check. Good in winter? Uh-huh. Sound like any Swedish automakers we know?<br /><br />There's one key difference between the Nipponese automaker and its kindred spirits over at Saab and Volvo, and it's a biggie: Subaru is making money, and they're picking up share. Year-to-date, Subie has lost just 1.8% of its sales year-over-year in America's wretched, turd-down-the-toilet economy. In this "flat is the new up" market, that's a stellar performance - far better than any other mainline automaker, including current industry darlings Hyundai/Kia. And after a day's drive in the firm's new-for-2010 Legacy, we think they're poised for even greater success. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>2010 Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon (JDM) - Click above for a high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Subaru has unveiled the all-new Legacy in JDM form, and on paper, it pretty much looks the same as the U.S.-spec car. The 2.5- and 3.6-liter boxer engines you'll find underhood when the new Legacy arrives at your local Scooby store are now in the cars across the Pacific, replacing the 2.0-liter engines that motivated their predecessors. So, basically, not much new to see... unless you're a wagon lover. How come? Well, in Japan, drivers can still opt for the standard Legacy Touring Wagon (with purple paint, even!) in addition to the jacked-up Outback. Sadly, here in the U.S., if you want the added utility, the Outback remains your only option. You can check out the new Legacy wagon in the gallery below, but if you want to buy one, you're outta luck.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-b4-jdm/low/">2010 Subaru Legacy Wagon B4 (JDM)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-b4-jdm/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/09bc01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-b4-jdm/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/09bc02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-b4-jdm/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/09bc03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-b4-jdm/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/09bc04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-wagon-b4-jdm/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/09bc05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/20/jdm-subaru-legacy-unveiled-wave-hi-to-the-wagon-from-afar/">JDM Subaru Legacy unveiled. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>2010 Subaru Legacy - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Subaru has just stuck a Monroney on its 2010 Legacy, and the new all-wheel drive sedan will start at $20,690 (<strong>*</strong>$19,995 + $695 destination). According to the Japanese automaker, that's a handy $800 less than last year's model. For that hard-earned dosh, you will receive a 2.5i model with its standard six-speed manual - the company's "Lineartronic" CVT model starts at a grand more. The base Legacy looks to be quite well equipped, but for those with the wherewithal, a 2.5i Premium model adds a bunch of content (including 16-inch alloys, leather-wrapped wheel, 10-way power driver's seat, etc.) for another $1,000 on top of the standard 2.5i model.<br /><br />Gearheads will likely be most interested in the 2.5GT model, which includes a turbocharged 265-horsepower mill backed by a six-speed manual. For your $28,690 (including dest.), you'll get 18-inch alloys, a hood scoop, and all the features of the 2.5i Premium model. There's a Limited model, too, which adds a leather interior, power passenger seat, and a Harman/Kardon audio system, but selecting that model will relieve you of a tidy $30,690 at your local dealer.<br /><br />Alternatively, if you prefer more relaxed six-cylinder motoring, there's the normally aspirated 256-horsepower 3.6R model, but you'll have to settle for a five-speed automatic with paddle-shift control. That model starts at $25,690 (which Subie notes is $1,600 less than the 3.0R exit vehicle), and this time out, it only requires 87 octane at the pump.<br /><br />Key options include a $995 moonroof and a navigation package with Bluetooth, an upgraded 440-watt stereo w/USB port and a backup camera for $2,000. <br /><br />Load luggers take note: There appear to be no wagons bound for the U.S. market (as in recent years), so you'll have to wait for word on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/09/new-york-2010-subaru-outback-has-its-muklucks-on/">2010 Outback</a> pricing if your life or your preferences dictate a two-box setup. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>2010 Subaru Outback - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Yesterday, Subaru unveiled its new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/08/new-york-2010-subaru-legacy-all-grown-up/">Legacy sedan</a>, a vehicle that is pivotal not just in its own right, but because it also forms the basis for the softroader stiltswagon seen here. It only makes sense that Subaru chose to unveil its new Outback here this morning, as the very first model debuted here in the Big Apple some 15 years ago.<br /><br />Predictably, the all-wheel drive Outback's running gear remains pure Legacy, and as such, it has grown similarly. Interior volume is up eight percent thanks in part to a 2.8-inch longer wheelbase (which also adds nearly four inches of rear legroom) and a two-inch wider footprint. Despite these gains, Subie officials claim the 2010 model is actually shorter overall. It also rides a bit higher, with ground clearnce swelling to 8.7 inches. Not only is this growth part of a strategy to combat upsized family sedans from Toyota, Honda, Chevrolet and Mazda, the move also allows the Outback to distance itself from popular Forester that also got biggie-sized with its last redesign.<br /><br />The new model will be available in the buyer's choice of a 2.5-liter, normally aspirated flat-four giving 170 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque (backed by one of two new transmissions: a six-speed manual or Subie's "Lineartronic" CVT) or a 3.6-liter flat-six (256 hp and 247 pound-feet) paired to a conventional five-speed automatic. Regardless of which engine is specified, the fuel tank grows to 18.5 gallons (from 16.9), and regular fuel is all that's required.<br /><br />Follow the jump for more, including Subaru's official press release, and check out the new Outback in our high-res gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-outback/low/">New York: 2010 Subaru Outback</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-outback/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/000_nyc_outback_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-outback/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/002_nyc_outback_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-outback/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/003_nyc_outback_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-outback/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/004_nyc_outback_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-outback/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/005_nyc_outback_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-outback-1/low/">2010 Subaru Outback</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-outback-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/2010_ob0000a_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-outback-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/2010_ob0000b_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-outback-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/2010_ob0001_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-outback-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/2010_ob0005_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-outback-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/2010_ob0006_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/09/new-york-2010-subaru-outback-has-its-muklucks-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New York: 2010 Subaru Outback has its muklucks on</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/09/new-york-2010-subaru-outback-has-its-muklucks-on/">New York: 2010 Subaru Outback has its muklucks on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 09 Apr 2009 11:30:00 EST. <br />The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/New-York-Auto-Show/">New York Auto Show</a> is the backdrop for the 2010 Subaru Legacy's unveiling, and we just checked it out on the display stand downstairs here at the Jacob Javits Center. The red car you see in the gallery below is a Legacy 2.5 GT equipped with the six-speed manual gearbox, while the dark gray car above is a PZEV-certified base model. The new Legacy is clearly a step up from the car it replaces. It's taller, longer and wider, which makes for more room inside than the old car, which in turn makes for a more compelling rival to the cavernous Accord. The interior's trimmed out with decent plastics, a thick-rimmed wheel, a relatively uncluttered center stack (as opposed to the Accord's loaded Scrabble board) and nice leather seats. The mere presence of that manual shifter makes it all the more welcoming. (Man, if only you could get this trim and setup in a wagon...)<br /><br />Outside, the new Legacy's got a new, distinctive front end with big eyes and that familiar corporate grille. The 2.5 GT's hood scoop jazzes things up a little, too. In profile, the 2010 Legacy is inoffensive and will blend into the family-sedan crowd nicely. The rear end features large taillamps and, in the case of the 2.5GT, dual exhaust outlets. Open the trunk and you'll find a nice, large opening with thoughtfully-placed release handles for the rear seats (no need to drop them from inside the passenger compartment, which is a nice touch.) In all, the 2010 Subaru Legacy's restyling is far less controversial than the one underwent recently by the Impreza, though we're still going to miss the outgoing car's clean, handsome lines. That said, the new car is better-positioned to do battle in this hugely-competitive segment, and we expect that Subaru is eager to throw its hat in the ring against the Accord and Camry.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2010-subaru-legacy/low/">New York: 2010 Subaru Legacy</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/000_legacy_nyc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/005_legacy_nyc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/004_legacy_nyc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/012_legacy_nyc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/011_legacy_nyc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy/low/">2010 Subaru Legacy</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010_lg0005_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010_lg0006_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010_lg0007_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010_lg0008_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010_lg0009_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Alex Nunez / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/08/new-york-2010-subaru-legacy-all-grown-up/">New York: 2010 Subaru Legacy all grown up</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 08 Apr 2009 14:29:00 EST. <br />With the days winding down until the opening of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/2009-New-York-Auto-Show/">2009 New York Auto Show</a>, Subaru has released the full details along with photographs of its highly anticipated new Legacy, which replaces the outgoing model for the 2010 model year. The new Legacy has big shoes to fill, as the outgoing model offered a compelling package with a sleek design and capable chassis. <br /><br />The exterior design of the new model bridges the gap between Subie's aging flagship model and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/11/detroit-2009-subaru-legacy-concept-shows-its-face/">concept car the Japanese automaker revealed in Detroit</a>. The new Legacy also grows an inch longer, and about three inches in each the wheelbase, width and height, in order to offer a more commodious cabin. <br /><br />Three engines will be available: A naturally-aspirated four, a revised turbocharged flat-four and the flat-six. The 2.5-liter normally aspirated engine produces 170 horsepower and equal torques, and the fla-six swells from 3.0- to 3.6 liters, now producing 256 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque<span style="font-style: italic;"></span>. But the big news is the revised turbo boxer in between, producing 22 more horses than the outgoing model (now 265 hp) and 17 lb-ft more torque (for a total of 258) from lower revs. Of course, all the engines will offer all-wheel drive (otherwise it'd hardly be a Subaru), but the six-speed manual (fresh to the North American market) and five-speed automatic are joined by a new CVT to keep any of the engines in their sweet spot. <br /><br />The interior has likewise been thoroughly revised, incorporating a new voice-command sat-nav and slick ambient lighting. All of this amounts to a modest 50 pound increase in weight, which seems like a small penalty to pay for all the added features. <br /><br />We'll be sure to check it out and report back live from the Javitz Center show floor next week. In the meantime, load up on info with the press release after the jump and the high-resolution image gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy/low/">2010 Subaru Legacy</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010_lg0005_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010_lg0006_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010_lg0007_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010_lg0008_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010_lg0009_h_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Source: Subaru]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/31/new-york-2009-preview-subaru-reveals-2010-legacy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New York Preview: 2010 Subaru Legacy revealed ahead of Big Apple debut</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/31/new-york-2009-preview-subaru-reveals-2010-legacy/">New York Preview: 2010 Subaru Legacy revealed ahead of Big Apple debut</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 31 Mar 2009 11:29:00 EST. <br />Following up on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/11/report-next-subaru-legacy-headed-for-the-big-apple/">our earlier story</a> about the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2010SubaruLegacy/">2010 Subaru Legacy</a>'s <strike>impending</strike> rumored debut at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/NewYorkAutoShow/">New York Auto Show</a>, a handful of renderings have surfaced from a variety of sources giving us a glimpse of what we might see in the Big Apple.<br /><br />Many of you have voiced some (ahem) minor displeasure with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/11/detroit-2009-subaru-legacy-concept-shows-its-face/">Legacy concept</a>'s new nose, and although these images aren't official, they won't do much to curb your criticisms. While we're evenly split on how well the new fascia will make the transition from concept to production, here's hoping that the blistered wheel arches and taut rear end make the migration from the drawing board to the dealerships. <br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-outback-renderings/low/">2010 Subaru Legacy/Outback Renderings</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-outback-renderings/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/legacy1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-outback-renderings/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/legacy2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-outback-renderings/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/legacy3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-subaru-legacy-outback-renderings/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/legacy4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=25373367&amp;postcount=1414">NASIOC</a> via <a href="http://blogs.edmunds.com/straightline/2009/03/2009-new-york-auto-show-2010-subaru-legacy-or-outback-or-both.html">InsideLine</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/11/rendered-speculation-new-york-bound-2010-subaru-legacy/">Rendered Speculation: New York-bound 2010 Subaru Legacy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 11 Mar 2009 19:58:00 EST. <br />Looks like <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/16/detroit-09-preview-volvo-s60-concept/">Volvo's</a> not the only automaker teasing the next-gen version of its midsize sedan in Detroit next month. The Subaru Legacy Concept celebrates the model's 20th anniversary and forecasts the styling we should probably expect to see when the current model heads to the retirement home. Hence, those stacked headlights and the new, chunkier-looking grille design are things we should all probably start getting used to. As for those muscular fender flares and the aggressive lower fascia, well, we'll cross our fingers. Consider our interest piqued. Plenty more to come when we get to Detroit. Now, if only they'd bring back that Legacy Wagon, too....<br /><br />[Source: Subaru]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/17/detroit-08-preview-subaru-legacy-concept-to-make-motown-debut/">Detroit '09 Preview: Subaru Legacy Concept to make Motown debut</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 17 Dec 2008 00:35:00 EST. We pretty much know the styling direction and dimensions of Subaru's new people mover, but one portion of AutoExpress' article caught our attention. In addition to the Exiga joining a new Legacy sedan and Outback wagon in 2009, Subaru's future drivetrain plans include dropping the 3.0-liter boxer and reworking the 2.0- and 2.5-liter engines to increase efficiency and power. The naturally aspirated 2.0-liter will supposedly produce 200 hp, while the current turbocharged 2.5-liter will exceed 300 hp. While neither of which is huge news, AE also mentions that a Legacy STI is on the way with a turbo'd 3.7-liter producing close to 450 hp. Whether or not such a beast will actually come about is open to debate, but when it does, we hope that Subaru has the foresight to make it available in the U.S.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/222462/subaru-exiga.html">AutoExpress</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/29/subaru-legacy-sti-rumored-to-have-450-hp/">Subaru Legacy STI rumored to have 450 hp</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 29 May 2008 14:58:00 EST. The Legacy STI S402 will be limited to (appropriately) 402 units in both sedan and wagon trim, featuring the STI's turbocharged, 2.5-liter flat-four. Unlike some of the other "special" Subies, the S402 Legacy means business. To begin with, the front fenders have been widened by 20mm, the steering ratio has been reduced to 13:1 and Bilstein shocks are fitted at all four corners, along with 18-inch BBS wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE050A rubber. The brakes have been upgraded to units from Brembo, with six-piston calipers up front and two-pot calipers in the rear gripping upgraded rotors. Aside from all the required badging, Subaru has fitted new gauges to the IP, along with a MOMO steering wheel and aluminum shift knob.<br /><br />Sales begin in Japan on June 27th, with prices starting &yen;5,491,500 for the wagon and &yen;5,355,000 for the sedan. We'll take one of each, thank you very much.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-legacy-sti-s402/low/">Subaru Legacy STI S402</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-legacy-sti-s402/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/02_s402_sub_leg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-legacy-sti-s402/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/03_s402_sub_leg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-legacy-sti-s402/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/04_s402_sub_leg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-legacy-sti-s402/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/05_s402_sub_leg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-legacy-sti-s402/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/06_s402_sub_leg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Subaru]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/15/jdm-goodness-subaru-legacy-sti-s402/">JDM Goodness: Subaru Legacy STI S402</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 15 May 2008 19:34:00 EST. The impressive little Scooby can scoot just like the last-gen model, but now it does it with a refinement the old model lacked. For fans and foes of the AWD pocket rocket, team Subie made a one-minute video tribute to the coolness that is STI. Hit the jump to view some seriously amazing jumps, flips, spin-outs, crashes, and power slides featuring the old car that concludes with the '08 ride tearing up the tarmac. If you don't want to go drive an STI after watching this clip, you may be dead. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTdldqUQYto">YouTube</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/12/video-subaru-ad-reminds-us-why-the-sti-rocks/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Subaru ad reminds us why the STI rocks</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/12/video-subaru-ad-reminds-us-why-the-sti-rocks/">VIDEO: Subaru ad reminds us why the STI rocks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 12 Apr 2008 16:05:00 EST. That, partnered with its boxer engine, goes together like peanut butter and jelly. But the Japanese automaker has to begin worrying about fuel efficiency and emissions, so the two features that have defined the brand for decades may become optional on future models. Thankfully, it's got Toyota to pilfer from, so the implementation of new drivetrains will be a bit easier if and when it makes the shift. Subaru of Australia Director Nick Senior broke the news of the possible switch, but he also emphasized that any changes wouldn't be made before 2010 and that no product plans are without AWD or the boxer engine in the foreseeable future.<br /><br />[Source: Go Auto via <a href="http://blogs.edmunds.com/Straightline/3815">Straightline</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/20/subaru-considering-offering-non-boxer-non-awd-models/">Subaru considering offering non-boxer, non-AWD models</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 20 Nov 2007 08:58:00 EST. The first of which is the Legacy Outback Urban "selection," which strikes us as an oxymoronic offering considering the Outback's entirely un-urban pretenses.<br /><br />Essentially the "Urban" is your standard Legacy with a limited edition red hue, silver side mirrors and roof rails, along with leather and Alcantara-trimmed seats. What's been done to make it more suitable for mid-town motoring escapes us, but so does the concept behind it. Sales are expected to begin in Japan sometime next year.<br /><br />[Source: Subaru]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-legacy-outback-urban-selection/low/">Subaru Legacy Outback Urban Selection</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-legacy-outback-urban-selection/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/leg_outback_urban_1_press_1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-legacy-outback-urban-selection/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/leg_outback_urban_2_press_1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/09/tokyo-2007-preview-subaru-legacy-outback-urban-selection/">Tokyo 2007 Preview: Subaru Legacy Outback Urban Selection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 09 Oct 2007 08:55:00 EST. The package is available for the Legacy Touring Wagon and the Legacy B4 sedan. The "tuned by STI" cars are based on the 2.0 GT spec.B package, which plants a 260-hp/253 lb-ft (5AT) or 280-hp/253 lb-ft (6MT) turbo four-cylinder underhood. From there, a full STI visual upgrade is applied, and additional enhancements/accessories include:<br />
<ul>
    <li>STI 18" wheels</li>
    <li>STI leather key case</li>
    <li>McIntosh audio system</li>
    <li>HDD navigation system</li>
    <li>STI springs and dampers</li>
    <li>STI strut tower bar</li>
    <li>Brembo brakes</li>
    <li>STI sport muffler</li>
    <li>STI-branded sill plates</li>
    <li>STI-programmed ECU</li>
</ul>
Power is delivered to all four wheels via a 5-speed auto with the Prodrive-developed Sportshift or a traditional 6-speed manual. As was the case last time, we can't get them here. The wagon looks great, of course, which makes us feel even worse, since we're now <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/16/subaru-pares-down-legacy-outback-offerings-for-2008/">limited</a> to just the Outback in that body style. <br /><br />[Source: Subaru]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-subaru-legacy-tuned-by-sti/low/">2008 Subaru Legacy "tuned by STI" (JDM)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-subaru-legacy-tuned-by-sti/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/legacysti2008_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-subaru-legacy-tuned-by-sti/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/legacysti2008_002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-subaru-legacy-tuned-by-sti/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/legacysti2008_003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-subaru-legacy-tuned-by-sti/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/legacysti2008_004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-subaru-legacy-tuned-by-sti/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/legacysti2008_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/07/japan-subaru-legacy-touring-wagon-b4-get-tuned-by-sti-treatm/">Japan: Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon, B4 Sedan get "tuned by STI" treatment</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 07 Aug 2007 13:32:00 EST. Chrysler uses the CVT in a few of its products, Mitsubishi added the tranny to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/27/mitsubishi-to-offer-cvt-for-first-time-in-u-s/">new Lancer</a>, and Nissan has begun using the CVT in the <a href="http://autos.aol.com/nissan-altima-2008:9130-overview">Altima</a> and <a href="http://autos.aol.com/nissan-sentra-2007:8828-overview">Sentra</a>, among others. According to a Japanese business rag, Subaru is planning to add the gearless transmission into every model they make by 2010. The first Subie to mate a boxer engine to the CVT is rumored to be the updated 2009 Legacy, and a 2.0L diesel with a CVT may follow shortly there after. While the CVT will be available with every model, we're assuming (and hoping) that manual transmissions will be offered as well.</p>
<p>CVTs are usually a bit quicker off the line than automatics, but in our experience fuel economy savings are a mix bag. While the Sentra's MPG improved with the CVT, in the 2006 Ford Five Hundred, the FWD CVT version got two <em>less</em> MPG on the highway than the auto-equipped SEL model. As far as the driving experience goes, CVTs take a little getting used to since the transmissions keep the engine in the optimal rev range at all times and the transmission feels like it's slipping, but most drivers may never notice the difference. </p>

Rather than prepare, we're going with gut reactions. Starting it off, we mull over the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/16/indianapolis-loses-f1-gains-motogp-in-2008/">loss of the USGP</a> from Indianapolis, and postulate on where else F1 may pop up in the US. An F1 race on the Vegas strip would be the bomb. Staying with motorsports, we marvel at how Team SARD <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/18/toyota-sard-entering-supra-hv-r-hybrid-racer-in-tokachi-24-hours/">spanked everyone</a> extremely hard at Tokachi with a hybridized Supra GT. We're sure that racing will improve the hybrid breed at a much steeper pace than conventional powerplants. In other racing news, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/14/splitsville-for-budweiser-and-earnhardt-jr/">Dale Junior has split from Budweiser</a>, so he'll have new livery to plaster all over his left-turn machine. <br /><br />Moving on from racing, we ponder the leakage and eventual announcement of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/14/first-official-images-of-the-2008-porsche-911-gt2/">Porsche 911 GT2</a>. It's as unassuming as a Porsche can get, but it packs 530 horsepower and uses the rear wheels to push top speed to the 200 MPH realm, while being a docile everyday car. While Porsches always make us giddy little schoolboys, Subaru's recent <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/16/subaru-pares-down-legacy-outback-offerings-for-2008/">model line revisions</a> have us alternating between cheers and jeers. The good: the Legacy SUS, or whatever the heck they call their Outback sedan is kaput. The bad: so is the straight Legacy wagon. We devolve into a styling review of Subaru's new corporate language for a while before surfacing again to discuss the inanity surrounding <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/13/obama-swaps-300c-for-escape-hybrid/">presidential candidates and hybrid vehicles</a>. Idiocy, 'nuff said. <br /><br />On a lighter note, we discuss the rumored <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/13/rumormill-disney-pixar-planning-second-lap-for-i-cars-i/">sequel</a> to Disney/Pixar's "Cars." Not surprising when you consider how lucrative the tie-ins usually are. Off entertainment and on to entertaining cars, we ogle the leaked pictures of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/13/scoop-falcon-orion-sans-camo/">FPV Falcon</a>, and discuss the future plans of that platform here in the US. It does look mean, so thanks to that janitor who picked these renderings out of the trash. Our pithy cavalcade keeps rolling along, and we chew over Bob Lutz's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/12/video-in-the-fastlane-iii-bobs-not-big-on-diesels-future-in-t/">latest comments</a> about the future of diesel powerplants in the US. It's odd that Bob is cool on diesel just as GM is poised to roll out new oil-burners. Wrapping up, we put out the call to action again for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/11/return-of-the-reader-ride/">Reader Ride</a> - add your pix to the Flickr pool and include details! The hour duration of Podcast #71 will give you enjoyment to <strong>and</strong> from work, enjoy!<br /><br /><a href="http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s="><strong>SUBSCRIBE</strong></a> to the Autoblog Podcast in iTunes<br /><a href="http://stadium.weblogsinc.com/autoblog/podcasts/auto20070716_0071.mp3"><strong>LISTEN</strong></a> to the show now<br /><a href="http://podcasts.autoblog.com/rss.xml"><strong>ADD</strong></a> the Autoblog Podcast feed to your RSS aggregator<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/18/autoblog-podcast-71/">Autoblog Podcast #71</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 18 Jul 2007 15:20:00 EST. They get their own, highly-desirable, locally-produced products, as well as some of the great imported machinery we regularly pine for, such as the new Ford Mondeo and sport versions of the Euro Focus and Fiesta. It extends to the Japanese automakers, too, as evidenced by Subaru Australia's announcement that a limited run of 300 Liberty GT Tuned by STi cars will be offered. (The Liberty is the Australian Legacy.) In terms of visual and performance enhancements, the STi-enhanced Liberty is very similar to its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/09/subary-legacy-sti-package-introduced-in-japan/">JDM cousin</a>. <br /><br />The cars start as Liberty GT spec.B sedans or wagons, and they get a full workover from there. Engine output is 260 horsepower at 6,000 rpm with 256 lb-ft of torque starting at 2,800 rpm. Manually-equipped cars receive a short-throw shifter, while autos benefit from a reprogrammed transmission control unit for a more sporting experience. An upgraded interior, high-end stereo, STi suspension components, STi/Brembo brakes, 18" Enkeis, a sport exhaust, and updated bodywork complete the transformation. Like the Japanese <strong><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/09/subary-legacy-sti-package-introduced-in-japan/">Legacy Tuned by STi</a></strong> we showed you last summer, the Liberty Tuned by STi is a looker that's not just all for show. Also like its Japanese-market counterpart, you can't get it here. Sigh. <br /><br />Press release after the jump.<br /><br />[Source: Subaru Australia]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/13/australia-gets-limited-run-subaru-liberty-gt-tuned-by-sti/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Australia gets limited-run Subaru Liberty GT Tuned by STi</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/13/australia-gets-limited-run-subaru-liberty-gt-tuned-by-sti/">Australia gets limited-run Subaru Liberty GT Tuned by STi</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 13 Apr 2007 16:23:00 EST.
