Years ago, on a post-collegiate backpacking trip through Europe, we became strangely obsessed with the Renault Twingo. Going so far as to compose red vin induced Weird Al style poems, "Twingo, Twingo little car, how I wonder why you are." Today, we're having a slightly different reaction to this diminutive Renault.

Mostly because out back you'll find a 3.5-liter Range Rover sourced V8 kicking out 180 horses. That's right folks -- it's a Twingo with a mid-mounted V8. They call it the Twingo Trophy. Obviously, if you drop a V8 into the back of a runt like the Twingo -- even a small V8 -- you've got to perform some fairly serious mods. And French motorcycle builder Lazareth did just that, creating a modern day Renault R5. Albeit one with inboard shocks.

If you look at the pictures, you'll notice both the front and rear tracks got widened, comically so out back. The reason for the latter is a special rear tubular subframe Lazareth had to shoe horn in to deal with all the extra weight and power now suddenly present behind the front seats. They also put some goofy-sized 320 Yokohama slicks on the 18-inch rear wheels. Making the Twingo Trophy all the more ridiculous. But in a good way. We think. How much? About $100,000 give or take. A small price to pay for such a... distinctive Twingo.

*Update: There's a good chance the V8 makes much more than 180 ponies, especially judging by those wrapped headers. Also, we've added a pair of videos after the jump.

French automobile and motorcycle builder Lazareth has managed to shoehorn an entire BMW V12 engine into one of its crazy Wazuma quads. While there isn't much that's environmentally friendly about a 500-horsepower supercharged V12 from BMW that's powering a rather large and impractical quad platform, Lazareth has decided to attempt to give the machine a bit of eco-cred by running the engine on E85.

Why use ethanol in a decidedly performance-minded machine? We'd guess Lazareth's decision to run E85 as a fuel is due to its superior octane rating, which allows the engine to run a higher compression ratio than with gasoline. If you're interested in adding an ethanol-burning, V12-powered road rocket to your own personal stable of vehicles, all you need to do is write Lazareth a check for €200,000 ($283,000) and await your delivery. Click past the break for a video of the Wazuma Bio V12 in action.

Having managed to avoid Babylon A.D. completely up until this point, it's hard to give any sort of commentary on the actual flick (we heard it was pretty bad...), but after seeing some of the cool machinery that was showcased in the Vin Diesel vehicle, we give a grade A to Lazareth, the French maker of high performance custom bikes. Lazareth was a good choice, as the motorcycles coming out of that shop already have a bit of a future post-apocalyptic look to them. Among the cool features are supercharged V-Twin engines, single-sided forks and swingarms, and on-board computers. Customs based on streetfighters are inherently cool in the sea of look-alike choppers and bobbers, so it's a refreshing change of pace to see these bikes featured on film. See a video of the machines in action after the break.

Gallery: Lazareth customs in Babylon A.D.

[Source: MotoBlog]
Continue reading Video: Vin Diesel rides custom bikes from Lazareth in Babylon A.D.

Video: Vin Diesel rides custom bikes from Lazareth in Babylon A.D. originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 14 Sep 2008 16:19:00 EST. Employing a supercharger which was previously used in the engine bay of a last-generation Mini Cooper S, the Lazarus also features a single-sided swingarm and single-sided front fork. The Buell chassis lends itself well to the use of a supercharger because the airbox on top is completely replaced by the power-adder and a nice frame cut-out is already present for the belt drive. Being that the Buell platform stores oil in the swingarm, its replacement required the use of an external oil tank. Notice the abundant use of carbon fiber as well as the three-spoke wheels which look to have been swiped from Ducati.

This custom is very cool and looks relatively easy to reproduce. Whether or not Lazareth has any plans to offer the bike for sale, we don't know. But, this article mentions that the custom adjustable suspension is currently being studied and may be offered in the future with electronic adjustment. When way over-the-top is just enough, it looks like Lazareth is the man to talk to.

[Source: Lazareth, Gizmag]
Does Ludovic Lazareth build a better bike than Buell? originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 19 Oct 2007 08:28:00 EST.
Getting some attention over on autobloggreen is this post on alternative forms of transportation. What you see here are close encounters of the three-wheeled kind. Included are the Lazareth Triazuma, Ural and Harley-Davidson sidecars and the Piaggio MP3. While these vehicles can be considered green due to their lower emissions and higher fuel mileage than cars, the Triazuma would be very exciting to pilot, being very close to the ground with amazing levels of acceleration and grip. Another set of builders has expirimented with the idea as well, making the SUB 3-Wheeler. With supercar acceleration and less fear of falling off, would you ride one to work?

The Lazereth "Quadrazuma" is powered by a Yamaha GTS 1000 4-cylinder engine, producing 120 hp at 12,000 rpm. Considering its curb weight of 837 pounds, performance should be, well, inspiring.

The Yamaha frame is augmented with a tubular steel structure, sporting steering gear from a Renault Twingo and including two 20-liter side-mounted gas tanks. 17-inch wheels carry 205/40 front tires and 225/35s in the rear.

As ex-F1 driver and TV commentator David Hobbs is fond of saying, it would take a driver "with rather large attachments" to explore the performance envelope of this beast. Videos of the Quadrazuma can be found at the Lazareth website - in the meantime we have more pictures after the jump.

[Source: Lazareth via Marbellaguide.com]
Continue reading Quadrazuma all-asphalt monster quad

Quadrazuma all-asphalt monster quad originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 31 May 2006 10:55:00 EST.
