Land Rover to offer 16 models by 2020

The Range Rover Evoque was a bold new direction for Land Rover that proved successful, but if reports are to be believed, it is only the beginning of an onslaught of new products. According to a report from Autocar, the brand associated with both opulent motoring and rugged off-road capability is embarking on a massive lineup expansion, with the goal of producing 600,000 vehicles annually and 22 million vehicles by 2020.

In order to accomplish this, a flurry of new modes are planned, including the expansion of the Freelander (LR2) lineup and the unveiling of a new Defender family. The former will include five-seat and seven seat models, while the Defender will also roll out five-seat and seven-seat editions, but also a crew-cab pickup model. Consider our interest piqued.

The Evoque family will also grow, including an Evoque XL, Evoque convertible, and a "baby Range Rover" that would slot underneath the Range Rover Sport. This amonts to a goal of expanding the Land Rover lineup to 16 new vehicles.

Jaguar/Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth has claimed "40 new JLR product launches in the next five years," according to the report. To accomplish this, JLR is throwing 2 billion pounds a year behind this expansion. Roughly 1.8 billion pounds will go to a new Chinese production facility capable of producing 130,000 vehicles per year. The strategic location of the plant can feed the Chinese and Russian markets, which have voiced a demand for more specialized, limited edition models.

This all may seem ambitious, and perhaps even present an overlapping of models. However, if the automotive marketplace has taught us anything in the last decade, it is that there really is no such thing as too many CUVs.

Ladies Love It: Evoque wins Women's World Car of the Year

The 2012 Women's World Car of the Year Award winners are in, and the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has taken top honors. A jury of female auto writers from a total of 12 countries all voted on this year's winners over four categories, including Family Car, Luxury Car, Sports Car and Economy Car, though the panel also awards a trophy for "supreme winner." This year, the Evoque took first place in both Luxury Car and supreme winner segments.

Interestingly enough, the BMW 3 Series drove off with first place in the Family Car category, while the Porsche 911 took the top Sports Car nod and the Honda Civic won Economy Car honors. WWCOTY says that while each category saw a clear winner, the spots for second and third place in each category switched multiple times as more votes came in. Land Rover boosts U.S. allotment of hot-selling Evoque

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is selling well here in the States. So well, in fact, that the compact utility is barely sticking on showroom lots. Dealers are reportedly struggling to get an Evoque in the hands of every customer that wants the Beckham-inspired luxury 'ute. They need more supply to meet the demands of potential customers, lest Land Rover lose said customer to a competitor.

High demand is a good problem to have, but Land Rover would prefer to meet demand and reap the financial benefits. Fully aware of the supply issues both in the U.S. as well as globally, the British automaker is reportedly set to boost production of the Evoque by 25 percent.

Currently, 750 units a month are produced at Land Rover's Halewood, England facility, but that number is set to jump to 1,000 vehicles a month, says Automotive News. According to Land Rover North America CEO Andy Gross, this will come as a major relieve for dealers, pointing out that "It's been tough on the network."

While Land Rover sold just 2,244 Evoque models last year as production ramped up, it moved 4,355 in just the first six months of 2012. Even with the big daddy Range Rover selling out the last year before its redesign and a short supply of Evoques, Land Rover sales are up an impressive 21 percent. With a new Range Rover set to debut in early 2013 and Evoque capacity on the rise, it looks like Land Rover should enjoy similar growth in the year to come.

Land Rover teases new Evoque special edition with Victoria Beckham

Land Rover is using the Beijing Motor Show to reveal a special edition Range Rover Evoque with Victoria Beckham - not "created with" or "by," just "with." It was announced almost a year ago, but Posh Becks has been busy doing the kinds of things keep a woman called Posh busy.

LR has made a vid to support the cause, but it stretches the definition of "teaser" since it's more like 17 seconds of Fashion TV meets Tron in monochrome, bracketed by titles. If you look really closely, you might even see the Evoque in it. Scroll down to check it out.

Hyundai Elantra, Range Rover Evoque named 2012 North American Car and Truck of the Year [UPDATE]

And now, ladies and gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for... the Car of the Year awards to rule all Car of the Year awards... the definitive selection of the very best the industry has to offer has been decided. Well, we don't know about all that, but the votes have been tabulated and the assembled jurists (including our own Chris Paukert) have selected the 2012 North American Car and Truck of the Year.

The finalists were whittled down from a list of 30 candidates to include the Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra and Volkswagen Passat (on the car side of the equation) and the BMW X3, Honda CR-V and Range Rover Evoque (on the truck side, despite them all being car-based crossovers). And after (what we hope was) careful consideration, the panelists have selected the Elantra and the Evoque as the overall winners.

The awards will undoubtedly sit proudly atop the mantles at both Hyundai and Jaguar/Land Rover's headquarters, but will surely be received with particular jubilation by Land Rover, which has won the award for the first time in this, its largest market.

Land Rover to launch convertible Evoque?

Land Rover is no stranger to the topless utility vehicles. In fact, it was one of the originators, and still offers the Defender as an open-air prospect. But that's a hard-core off-roader. The Evoque, in this and many other ways, charts new territory for the brand.

Rumor has it that the British purveyor of sport-utes is planning a convertible version of the Evoque that will more closely mirror the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet and the rumored upcoming Audi Q5 cabrio. The drop-top version would in all likelihood be based on the three-door model as opposed to the five (like the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited), but aside from the roof configuration, it would likely mirror the hardtop model in every other way.

Could this be the Victoria Beckham special edition that's been touted? That would certainly kill any lingering prospect of men buying the convertible crossover. One way or another, we'll have to wait and see, and for that matter if the rumors will come to fruition at all. But if anyone has the cheek to pull it off, it's Land Rover.

Land Rover has slapped a sticker on its all-new 2012 Range Rover Evoque, and when sales begin this fall, $43,995 (not including destination) will get you behind the wheel of LR's smallest, most efficient 'ute.

In the run-up to launch, LR made a fuss about the amount of lightweight materials used on the Evoque, ranging from Boron steel in the chassis to composite fenders, a magnesium cross beam and aluminum roof, hood and suspension bits. In addition to utilizing recycled plastic material inside, all that weight-saving tech adds up to a curb weight of 3,680 pounds and - more importantly - a rather commendable 19 miles per gallon in the city and 28 mpg on the highway; sure to help the automakers CAFE standings here in the States. Land Rover gives the Evoque an extra set of wheels

Automakers designing bicycles is nothing new. Sometimes they're radical departures on the age-old wheeled machine, and sometimes they're new takes on the same classic form. The latest appears to be the latter, but that doesn't make it any less desirable.

Designed by Land Rover's design team to compliment the Range Rover Evoque, this road bike consists of a carbon fiber frame crafted by Karbona using F1-derived technology. The aerodynamically-optimized frame is fitted with an integrated seat tube, alloy handle bars, a 20-gear Shimano Ultegra system, black chrome trim and leather saddle.

This truly is a Land Rover-badged vehicle with no hope of ever traveling off the beaten path.

What's more, the crossover used to transport it, naturally, comes extra. Details in the press release after the jump, with high-res images in the gallery below.

Land Rover is officially in love with wireframe artwork. In September of 2010, four artists were commissioned to produce wireframe interpretations of the Range Rover Evoque. For the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Land Rover reached out to artist Benedict Radcliffe for a redux of sorts.

Radcliffe's wireframe take on the Range Rover Evoque is (supposedly) meant to showcase the personalization options available to Land Rover customers. The entire piece can be broken down into several smaller pieces that showcase various options available on the Evoque.

Click past the jump to watch a behind-the-scenes video that shows how Radcliffe produces his wireframe artwork. So... how long until this piece shows up at the Tate Modern?

Project Kahn working on Cosworth-powered Range Rover Evoque

It's not every day that a new Range Rover is introduced. But when one is, you can count on Azfal Kahn and his crew to go to work on it. And the new Evoque appears to be no exception.

Beyond the photo above, all Project Kahn has released so far about its tuning program for the Evoque is that (a) it's working on one, (b) it's coming some time in the new year and (c) it'll be powered by Cosworth. Kahn has worked with the racing engine manufacturer on previous projects, so that's no big revelation by itself, but it'll be interesting to see what the two British firms have got in store for the new baby Rover beyond a set of flashy rims.

We first met the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque at this year's Paris Motor Show, and its five-door sister makes its official debut today at the LA Auto Show. The Evoque is a huge departure from what we've commonly known of things that wear the Range Rover name, and it's poised to be a real hit amongst the urban, luxury lifestyle set. Power comes from a range of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, and all-wheel drive is standard - it is a Land Rover, after all.

There once was a time when three-door sport-utes were commonplace, but they gradually gave way to the versatility of the five-door body style. The trio-portal is making a comeback these days in the luxury crossover market, thanks to the likes of the new Range Rover Evoque and upcoming Porsche Cajun. And while the three-door versions of both are scheduled to arrive on the scene first, both are being followed by five-door versions. Land Rover has just pulled the sheet on its five-door Evoque, which will make its official debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The specs are largely the same as the three-door Evoque that bowed at this year's Paris Motor Show, but with a couple extra doors thrown into the mix to enable easier access to the rear seats. Nothing too complicated there, but it could make all the difference for many consumers looking to keep the sleek profile but not willing to forgo the bodystyle.

Land Rover may be sending specially wrapped versions of its early ~~LRX~~ Range Rover Evoque prototypes to different cities around the world, but when it comes to the serious development testing, the standard swirly yellow camouflage will do. Here, our spies have caught the five-door version of the Evoque making its first foray onto the Nürburgring, giving us hope that there might be a sporting bone or two in the Evoque's skeleton.

Details on the new Evoque are still pretty slim as of this writing, but we fully expect the usual raft of details to be released closer to the crossover's public debut at the Paris Motor Show. As of right this writing, we know that both front- and all-wheel drive versions will be available and that a hybrid powertrain is planned. Rumormill: Range Rover plans fourth model

According to Autocar, Land Rover isn't done expanding its Range Rover model lineup now that the Evoque has made its official debut. Citing so-called "well-placed sources," the UK mag suggests that LR is surprised by the overwhelmingly positive reaction to the new entry-level Range Rover - enough that it's now considering another model to slot in below the Range Rover Sport.

The report goes on to suggest that development of the proposed machine has barely begun and there's no clear indication of what exactly is in store, though a seven-passenger "lifestyle" (whatever that means...) vehicle has been hinted at. It's thought that the Range Rover Sport may be moved slightly upmarket from its current £46,000 (just over $60,000 U.S.) starting price to make room for this theoretical new model. In any case, considering that the Evoque is still quite a way off, we don't expect to see this new rumor fulfilled any time soon.
