Land Rover is expected to introduce a new diesel hybrid powertrain for use on the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year, and while our report last week indicated that these models wouldn't be sold here, Edmunds is reporting otherwise.

The Jaguar 3.0L V6 diesel engine that we learned about last week will also find a home under the hood of the leaping cats corporate siblings at Land Rover. The Land Rover Discovery (now sold in the US as the LR3) and the Range Rover Sport will both get the V6 in 237 hp and 272 hp flavors, respectively. Already, 95 percent of the vehicles that Land Rover sells in the UK are diesels, so why not just go the whole ten yards? That move is not on the board quite yet, but the possibility has been discussed, according to Land Rover's UK managing director John Edwards, speaking to Just-Auto (subs req'd).
