Lamborghini-powered Fiat 500 blows our minds

We suppose that it was fate that eventually someone would take a vintage Fiat 500 and wrap it around a 6.2-liter V12 plucked from a Lamborghini Murcielago. Seeing as how both the 500 and the Murcielago hail from Italy, it was only a matter of time before the two got drunk and made either the best or worst decision of their lives depending on who you ask.

Built by Oemmedi Mechanics, the car first bowed at the 2012 Bologna Motor Show, and while the ultra-widebody finished product is barely recognizable as an adorable Cinquecento, there's no mistaking the sound of that wicked V12.

How quick is the thing? Oemmedi isn't saying, but we imagine plopping an engine that dishes out 580 horsepower in a car that tipped the scales at just 1,100 pounds from the factory results in all sorts of abuses on the laws of physics. You can check out a few videos of the creation below.

Liberty Walk shows us how Japan does Lamborghini customs

Anywhere you find rabid car culture you'll find rabid tuners. Japan's no different, where the make-it-hotter ethos applies to everything. When it comes to Lamborghini, Chrysler, and yes, even the Suzuki Every kei car, Wataru Kato's 18-year-old Liberty Walk shop wants to be the last word in entertainment - not only for owners, but also for visitors.

Liberty Walk designs its own parts and applies them to a range of vehicles that go from the understated to the unbelievable. Kato says he wants his shop to be an amusement park for kids who just want to be around supercars. (We assume he means kids of all ages.)

Follow the jump for a video showcasing his work. If we make it there, we might start by asking to play with Kato's white Ferrari F40...

Video: Lamborghini Murcielago production end honored with V12 parade

After nine years and 4,099 examples produced, the Lamborghini Murciélago has reached the end of its production cycle. A new V12-equipped Lambo is on the horizon, but before that beast roars to life the Italian automaker decided to take its resident raging bull for one more lap through Sant'Agata Bolognese.

Not content to trot the Murciélago out alone, Lamborghini also lined up a 350 GT, Miura, Countach and Diablo to escort the Super Veloce. Baby-brother Gallardo also gets in on the parade action by means of the local polizia. The whole affair was captured on video and, while it might not be action packed, it is packed with beautiful and exotic examples of Lamborghini's history.

We've seen some pretty bizarre automotive trends on the web over the past few years, but this one, friends, takes the cake. Celebrities are suddenly no longer content to flash their wealth with expensive, ultra-rare cars. Nope. Now they have to stuff them with cash. Rapper 50 Cent is the latest to hop on this bandwagon by shoving stacks of cash into the nose of his Lamborghini Murcielago. We think that we can pretty fairly say that the hero of the film after the jump has successfully gotten rich without dying while trying.

This LP670-4 Superveloce is the 4,099th - and last - Lamborghini Murciélago to be produced at the automaker's Sant'Agata Bolognese factory. Wearing "Arancio Atlas" paint, the final Murc will be shipped off to a Swiss customer, marking the end of the car's nine-year production run.

During an "end of celebration" ceremony at Lamborghini's factory, the automaker's president and CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, had this to say:

"The Murciélago embodies the pure, unadulterated values of our brand. It is truly extreme, uncompromising and unmistakably Italian. This already makes it one of the legends of the sports car world. But the Lamborghini story continues. In 2011, we will take a huge step into the future with the successor to the Murciélago - with the most innovative technology and, once again, truly stunning design."

The Murciélago may have left quite a mark during its production run, but we're very eager to see what sort of supercar hotness Lamborghini has in store for next year. As we reported earlier, the ~~Jota~~ LP700-4 is nearing the end of its development process, and we could see an official debut as early as the Geneva Motor Show next March.

This is what happens at SEMA: you're strolling the aisles minding your own business, you turn your head and then a cluster of mighty malicious metal rocks you like a pow! straight out of vintage Batman. Holy Toledo! In this case it was the Savini Wheels booth, loaded up with a sedan and four coupes that should be parked outside the Legion of Doom. A Rolls-Royce Ghost inscribed with the ominous phrase "The Omen Machine" (probably meant for Lex Luthor), sits among a Lamborghini Murcielago with white-carbon-fiber-accented rims, Mercedes SLS AMG, Bentley Continental GT and a Ferrari 458 on a delicious set of spokes.

We couldn't get any more information on the cars or wheels because the hall wasn't open yet... but what more do you need? Beastly cars for bad, bad men are in the high-res gallery below.

Making a Lamborghini Murcielago stand out has to be one of the easiest tasks an aftermarket tuner can undertake. After all, the six-lane-wide supercar stands out pretty well straight from the factory. Making one fly under the radar is another matter entirely, but Unicate has done a fine job.

The anti-bling matte finish and smoked lamp lenses give the Yeniceri edition Lambo a more brooding, menacing look. It takes its name from an infamous Ottoman military unit, and the only thing that undermines the understated look is the 20-inch front and 21-inch rear ConcavTen wheels that feature black spokes but chrome rims and which Unicate claims are the largest wheels ever fitted to a Murcielago. Big as they are, we'll take that claim with a grain of salt or two.

Unicate's also dropped the suspension by about an inch, fitted a new exhaust worth about 20 extra horses, and fitted LEDs to the front grilles, side skirts and even the engine bay. An array of carbon fiber components are available for the interior as well, as you can see from the high-res image mega gallery below and the press release after the jump.

The whole 'Batmobile' comparison gets thrown around an awful lot on websites like this one. And this car's not even black, so we'll wave off of that this time. But consider the following: in the most recent Batman movie, Bruce Wayne drove a Lamborghini Murciélago. Into a truck, unfortunately. His alter-ego's drive, meanwhile, was on the other side of the more extreme Reventón. Now along comes JB Car Design with a kit to bridge the gap. And they call it the Bat, suitably enough.

The German tuner's retrofitted Murci LP 640 can be had with 710 or 750 horsepower (a not-inconsequential improvement on the stock 640) through the installation of new cats and exhaust. But in this case, the defining factor is the car's styling. A new front bumper and splitter, side skirts, and rear bumper with diffuser give the LP640 a more Reventón-style look, with a two-piece carbon fiber rear wing, LED lights and 20-inch modular alloys rounding out the package.

Meanwhile, the interior been re-trimmed in different leather, Alcantara and carbon fiber, along with a new steering wheel and sound system. Each of these components for engine, body and cabin can be purchased separately or as a comprehensive package, but JB says it will only make 75 examples of the body kit. 2012 Lamborghini Jota teasers leaked? [UPDATED]

The Internet is hard at work again, and you know what that means: in this case, fuzzy images of things that might or might not be legit Lamborghini shots. With the aid of Google Translate, an Italian site says it came across these shots "while wandering the net," and wonders what they might be. A logical guess might be the Murcielago successor codenamed Jota, but there's little to recommend that guess and a lot to discount it.

In the front aspect there is a row of LEDs flanking a central scoop, but no headlights can be discerned. In back there's an Estoque-esque taillight treatment and a beautiful set of haunches, but the tailpipe positioning is awkward, both how high it is and how far to the left. And there's that "20122012" at the top, and what looks like a magnification cursor in the center of both photos.

Yet while we can't say this passes any tests, if the back of the next Lambo looks anything like this we'll be very pleased indeed.

UPDATE: Ah, the collective brain responds: the car is a concept called the Cnossus done by two students at the Scuola Politecnica di Design in Italy. Thanks to everyone for the tips

The Lamborghini Jota might not be coming to the Paris Motor Show this week, but that doesn't mean tuners are finished playing around with the Murciélago LP640 roadster. Russia's Status Design has worked with BF to tweak the Murc in the automotive sunset of its life, with performance mods limited to just a sport exhaust. But there's alligator leather inside, a wicked sound system, carbon fiber ladled throughout, and get a load of that tangerine. It's all in the gallery of high-res photos below. If the name Underground Racing rings a bell it's because we've reported on some of their insane Lamborghini creations before. You might remember the Gallardo that could knock out 10 second quarter mile runs, or the Superleggera that topped 250 mph at the Texas Mile earlier this year.

The company has now turned to tweaking the V12 in the Murcielago, specifically the mighty LP670-4 SuperVeloce. Underground's twin-turbo performance package for Lambo's flagship starts at a whopping $129,000 and boosts the 6.7-liter V12 to 1,100 horsepower at the wheels on pump gas. You can get an additional 200 horsepower if you decide to use race fuel.

To show off its latest creation, Underground Racing created a teaser video of the twin-turbo Lambo, complete with a few acceleration runs and a rear view of the massive, singular exhaust pipe spitting flames during downshifts. Have a look for yourself after the jump.

Step-by-step unveilings of new car models can be a painfully slow affair, but when it's something as exciting as a new Lamborghini, chances are that it'll be worth it in the end.

Following the barely-a-teaser shot released three months ago, this new image just released by the Italian factory gives us a glimpse at a section of what looks like the taillight on what is expected to be the company's new Murciélago successor. The Murci has served admirably in its range-topper role, having carried on in numerous variants since 2001.

What you're looking at is the first in a series of six teasers slated to be released by the Bolognese exotic automaker ahead of the car's expected debut at the upcoming Paris Auto Salon. The rest of the shots will undoubtedly follow in a timely fashion, so stay tuned.

While everyone and their mother seems to have made Top Gear USA bashing the new national pastime, you might want to take a look at the newest video tease it's just released. While the appeal of the BBC show undoubtedly revolves around the chemistry between its three mismatched hosts, at its core, it's a show about cars. So even if we're not certain the three American hosts can live up to the legacy established by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, perhaps they really don't need to.

Top Gear USA isn't a replacement for the BBC show after all - it's more of a spin-off. And as long as the production values stay high - and from the looks of it, they have - it's just more car pr0n for all of us. Case in point: the video you'll see after the jump. The storyline is fairly straightforward: Round up the baddest Lamborghinis from the corral - Superleggera, Balboni and SuperVeloce - and open them up so we can see what they'll do. Hold on to your butts, Lamborghini fans. Word from Car and Driver's German correspondent is that the bullish Italian automaker is strongly considering re-entering the hardcore SUV segment. Considering that the brand's last effort into such uncharted territory brought us the Hummer-esque LM002, you can officially color us intrigued.

If the machine does make it past the planning stages, it will reportedly be based on the platform shared by the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, but we imagine it would get a powertrain more suitable for Lamborghini use - we can only hope that means a V12, as was the case with the LM002.

Another market Lamborghini is said to be considering is the entry-level V8 supercar segment. If a production model does indeed come about, it would slot below the V10-powered Gallardo. As with the aforementioned SUV, this would not be the first time Lambo has dipped a toe in these waters, as its Urraco, Silhouette and Jalpa played in the exact same market in the 1970s and 1980s before the Italian manufacturer pulled out in favor of traditional range-topping supercars like the Diablo and Murcielago.

Sadly, rumor has it that Lamborghini will not pursue the Estoque concept, leaving the Maserati Quattroporte as the only Italian to do battle with the likes of the Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide. Still, the company must at least be considering the Estoque since it went ahead and produced a concept to gauge reaction. Devastatingly fast as it is - particularly in the latest SuperVeloce form - the Lamborghini Murcielago is getting a little long in the tooth. Its successor has been spied undergoing testing time and time again, and now Sant'Agata has graced us (or perplexed us, depending on your perspective) with this solitary teaser image.

Now we've seen some cryptic teasers in our time, but this one has to take the cake. That the Murcielago's successor will have a hood of some sort, bear the Raging Bull emblem and is "Coming soon" serve as no great surprises. The rest is a matter of speculation, but we're expecting the exotic to be built largely from carbon fiber (replacing the archaic steel chassis on the outgoing Murci) and be shorter in length than its predecessor.

Sources also predict a fresh take on the classic Lambo scissor doors - possibly moving out before swinging up, sort of like a Koenigsegg - helping trim weight below the 1,500 kg (3,300 lb) mark. That could translate to a sub-3-second 0-60 sprint and a top end breeching 370 km/h (230 mph).

The Murcielago replacement - tentatively dubbed Jota - is expected to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show this fall. Dealers and VIP customers, however, could get a sneak peek as soon as next month, so stay tuned for leaks.

Spy Shots: 2011 Lamborghini Jota hits the road

It's no secret that Lamborghini is working hard to get its Murcielago replacement, the Jota, out the door. We've already caught sight of heavily camouflaged prototypes in testing, and it appears that the highly anticipated supercar is on the move again, this time on public roads.

When the Jota launches in 2011, it will have some relatively big shoes to fill, but Lamborghini is definitely prepared to do battle with the next generation of supercars. The Jota will be lighter, more powerful and more high-tech than the outgoing Murcielago - curb weight is estimated to be around 3,300 pounds, and a new 7.0-liter V12 is in the works, rumored to produce over 700 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. Seven-speed transmissions, in both automated manual and sequential styles will be on hand, helping the Jota storm to 60 mph in just three seconds, on its way up to a top speed of 220 mph.

When will we see the production-ready Jota? Mum's the word on that one, but don't be surprised if it makes an early appearance at the Paris Motor Show later this year, with the first sales being made in mid-2011.

Okay, Lamborghini. We get it. It's got 670 horsepower. It has all-wheel drive. It's really fast. It's made for China. It's a limited edition model. Did you really need to put all of that information in the name? The exclusive features of the car over the standard model perhaps takes less time to describe: An orange stripe symbolizing the "strength of an erupting volcano" (poorly timed) over flat gray paint and... well, that's about it. Oh, and a numbered badge with the owner's name. After all, nothing makes you feel special like a numbered badge.

Introduced by the Italian supercar builder today at the Beijing Motor Show to solidify its commitment to building its brand in China, the Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce China Limited Edition should help Lamborghini continue to grow its presence in the country, where it expanded business last year by 11 percent and will be launching its eighth Chinese dealership this week. Spy Shots: Is the 2011 Lamborghini Murciélago set to get Testarossa strakes?

What the image shows is a 2011 Lamborghini Murciélago mule on a testing run in Portugal. What the mule shows is a profile that looks like the remnants of a tryst between Miami Vice and Cannonball Run - a Testarossa-esque aspect with cheesegrater side strakes, to be specific. And that must mean that this is a Frankensteined body thrown together to confuse snappers, because there is no way the next Murci will have any such hindquarters... right?

Underneath whatever Reventón-inspired cues the super coupe ends up wearing, it is understood that the next Murci will secret a carbon fiber tub that replaces the current car's steel spaceframe. That bit of F1 tech will could bring the car in under 3,300 pounds. Shifting will be courtesy a sequential manual, the top speed beyond 200 miles per hour and the price beyond $300,000.

Lamborghini celebrates 4,000th Murcielago made

It's been a long time since Lamborghini introduced the Murcielago. In it's original form the Diablo replacement came with a 6.2-liter V12 putting out 580 horsepower and 480 lb-ft torque. Since then Lamborghini has continuously upgraded the car with more horsepower, limited editions like the Reventon and the series-ending flagship in the form of the LP670-4 SuperVeloce. We've also seen plenty of good and bad tuner versions, and Lamborghini even managed to have a little success in motorsports. Best of all, we even got to take an LP640 home for a few days and couldn't help but fall in love with the Italian supercar. Why all the reminiscing? Lamborghini has just built the 4,000th Murcielago. In comparison, just 2,900 Diablos were built from 1991-2001.

The 4,000th Murcielago was recently completed at the Sant'Agata Bolognese factory where Lamborghini celebrated the occasion. The car in question is an LP670-4 SV model with a bright Arancione Atlas (orange) paint scheme, and its lucky new owner will take delivery at Lamborghini's showroom in Hangzhou, China. How much horsepower is enough? While we're fairly certain some might be answering that rhetorical question with raised eyebrows, Lamborghini is seemingly content with a number just shy of 700 raging horses. That doesn't mean that the Italian supercar manufacturer won't continue its unabated push towards ever-quicker acceleration - though top speeds higher than 211 miles per hour sound unlikely - but there's clearly more than one way to skin a ~~cat~~ Prancing Horse.

Why not just build a bigger engine? Simple, as company CEO Stephan Winkelmann correctly observes, "It has come to the point where acceleration equals consumption. More consumption means increased CO2 emissions." Apparently, the answer to the power conundrum will be less weight. "We will use composite materials in the right place, when it also has the right cost, stiffness and mechanical characteristics," explains R&D chief Maurizio Reggiani.

Expect aluminum to be used in place of heavier steel, along with improved aerodynamics and stop/start technology to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. We've also heard repeated rumblings of full hybrid powertrains, though those seem more likely to come at the tail end of the decade. Whatever the case, it should be interesting to see how all the world's supercar manufacturers - Lamborghini included - grapple with the push to be green while also upholding their performance traditions.
