So you like the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV, but you're struggling to justify the price. After all, it may be just as fast as the Reventón, but it only costs a third of that range-topping bull. You like that it's the latest limited-edition hypercar from Sant'Agata Bolognese, but will everyone think you're slumming by not getting the most expensive bull in the barn? Come to think of it, maybe you can hold out for the Reventón Roadster, which should easily surpass the coupe as the ne plus ultra in the Lambo lineup. Of course, you could just stick with your ordinary LP640-4 or LP650-4 Roadster a little longer and wait for the Murcielago replacement in a year or two.

When that so-called Jota finally debuts, it will bring with it a new carbon fiber chassis and an equally new direct-injected 6.0-liter V12 thought to be good for at least 700 horsepower. Yeah, that's probably the way to go. After all, the economy isn't exactly the best right now and plunking down $1.5M for a new car might make others unnecessarily envious. Haters. Of course, if you wait too long, you might find yourself debating waiting a little longer still for the Jota-besting halo car from Lamborghini, the rumored Urus.

CARS UK is quoting "a source close to Lamborghini" when they talk about this new halo vehicle, which is expected to take on all comers, especially that "FX70" Enzo-replacement coming out of Maranello. Using a modified Jota chassis, the Urus will go on an even stricter diet to make it a <strike>featherweight</strike> lighter heavyweight. It will drop the few bits of aluminum that are expected to be used on the Jota and go all carbon fiber. That, active aerodynamics, and a nearly 800 horsepower version of the Jota V12 in its engine bay should allow the Urus to challenge even the Bugatti Veyron with a sub-3-second 0-60mph time. The real question becomes -- Can you wait until 2012 for the Urus or will you buckle a year earlier and pop for the Jota in 2011? You know what, just get both.

Not sure how many of you remember, but last time we saw a mirror-finished car we had us a little poll concerning what to call vehicles in this condition. Here are the results, in order:

21.2% voted we should call mental health professionals
25.2% voted to simply call 'em Chromed
25.2% voted for "All Moscow'd Out"
28.4% voted for "All Dubai'd Out"

Therefore, according to you, you're looking at an "All Dubai'd Out" Murcielago drop top. It's official. And yes, there it is, sitting in London traffic next to a cab and a guy on a rickshaw. Supposedly on Downing Street. Wonder if the owner is chums of Gordon Brown? No, right -- probably more likely Blair. Tip of the hat to Bo.

A Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 starts at around $350,000 and can quickly crest $400,000 with the addition of a few options and a dropable top, and the LP640-4 starts at $450,000. That's a lot of coin to be sure, but in the spirit of pulling together to ride out this whole "recession" thing, Lamborghini is looking to ease the blow of $7,000 per month financing with a new 0% offer for the 2009 and 2010 Murciélago coupe and roadster. The Italian supercar maker is offering 0% for up to 60 months for customers with credit scores over 740 and down payments somewhere north of 10% (the press release doesn't provide an exact number). That's a pretty big bargain considering a buyer picking up an LP640 for $400,000 with $80,000 down (20%) for $5,333.33 per month over 60 months, while the typical 5.9% interest rate would bring the monthly payment to $6171.63 with $50,297.67 in accumulated interest over the course of the loan.

Lamborghini is also offering 5.9% interest for up to 12 years for customers with 10% down and a credit score of 700. That makes for a monthly payment of about $3,500 per month on a $400,000 LP640, with $143,000 in interest over the course of the loan. While those loan terms sound all right to us, we're sadly still a bit short on funds for the Autoblog garage. Hit the jump to read over the Lamborghini presser.
Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640 JB-R by JB Car Design - Click above for high-res image gallery

The Lamborghini Murcielago may be getting old, but the raging bull still has some fight left in it. Some figure it just needs a little encouragement. Like JB Design.

The German tuning house has released a comprehensive tuning package for the LP-640 that leaves no stone unturned. The engine can be upgraded to 714- or 750-horsepower specifications. The shift paddles have been replaced with an F1-style rocker lever. An extensive carbon fiber aerodynamic package includes front and rear spoilers, rear diffuser, front air intake side skirts, and front and rear hoods. The wheels have been swapped out for 20-inch Schmidt Revolution alloys with steamroller Michelin rubber. The interior has been refinished in custom leather, Alcantara and carbon fiber trim. The stock exhaust has been replaced by an adjustable system. And the body has been re-sprayed in a custom paint that costs 280,000 euros per liter ($414k).

The cost of the modifications runs half a million euros (about $740k), but JB Design is looking to offload this particular demonstration car for 355,000 euros ($525k). Such a deal. Follow the jump for the full details in the press release and check out the images in our high-res gallery below.

Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 by Premier4509 - Click above for high-res image

The end of Murciélago is upon us. The steel-framed supercar from Sant'Agata has been on the market since 2001. Since then, Lamborghini has produced over 3,000 of them. But only 350 are LP670-4 SuperVeloce spec, and you can bet the other 2,650+ owners are jealous. However, while the SV's 670-horsepower engine remains the exclusive purview of the most extreme Lambo to date, one aftermarket firm has risen up to the challenge of giving existing "base" Murciélago owners the coveted look of the SuperVeloce.

You may remember Premier4509 for producing body kits for such exotics as the Lamborghini Gallardo, Bentley Continental GT and Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Japanese tuner fanboys and gamers may sooner recognize its parent company, VeilSide. But the Japanese outfit has now released a simple visual mod for the Murciélago to give it that SV look. Essentially all it is - for the time being at least - is a new bumper, blacked out on bottom and protruding like a cowcatcher. Coupled with a big rear wing and blacked-out quarter-panel intakes and mirrors, though, and it's a dead ringer SV.

Premier4509 says they've got an accompanying rear bumper in the works as well, and will only produce 300 examples of the body kit, so there's another couple thousand Murci owners still left out in the cold. And while it may not have the power advantage, even an "ordinary" Murciélago won't stick around long enough for anyone to notice.

[Source: Premier4509]
Premier4509 gives your Lamborghini Murciélago the SV look originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 08 Oct 2009 18:00:00 EST. There's a reason cable is kicking so much network butt these days. No, not Deadliest Catch. Well, okay, Deadliest Catch and shows like the National Geographic Channel's Ultimate Factories. What is Ultimate Factories you ask? It's a show where a camera crew runs around the world checking out some really cool factories, that's what. Think Budweiser, Ikea and the place where they build M1 tanks. However, the show spends most of its time (and rightly so) on cars.

For example, we chose the Lamborghini picture as the lead for this post because A) that's the (drool) LP670-4 SV B) the Lambo factory episode already aired last week. From all accounts, it was super fantastic good, especially if you're into raging bulls. Missed it? Do not fear, however, as reruns are currently (re)running. But even if you missed the Lamborghini episode, there are some upcoming shows that will certainly pique your interest.

This Thursday, October 8, is the Rolls-Royce factory where Nat Geo explores the Rolls-Royce Phantom, a car that takes 450 hours to build. On October 15 they visit the Oshawa plant where the new Chevrolet Camaro is built. Unlike the largely hand-built Phantom, it takes 734 robots (plus a human or two) just 18 hours to build a Camaro, with one coming off the line every minutes. Check this out: every Camaro produced so far has an owner.

On October 22, Ultimate Factories visits Stuttgart to spend some time with the Porsche 911. Turns out that National Geographic is smarter than they look because the very next week - October 29 - they visit Bowling Green, Kentucky where the Corvette is made. Why smart? Would you want eleventy billion Corvette owners writing you hate mail all stating, "OMG. My C5 can smoke that Volkswagen. LOL?" Make the jump to watch some previews - including one with a guest appearance by our pal Valentino Balboni.
Among them all, the one that claimed most of our attention was that the next boss bull will "be wider and longer." The length isn't such a big deal, but the current LP640 already approaches the opposite of narrow, and it's already superbly planted. If that part is true, we don't know what the extra width would do except to make the car... well, wider.

Design-wise, if the publication's rendering is to be believed, the Murci will get a lot of Gallardo and Reventón up front. A trim strip of LEDs (458 Italia, anyone?) would replace the current multi-lamp unit, in front and back. The front intakes look to be lifted straight from its littler sibling, and the rear screams "Estoque!" - in a good way.

AE suggests that the construction will be Audi spaceframe-esque, with a complete carbon fiber body (shedding the current steel roof and doors). With less weight and an expected jump to 700 horsepower, that ought to be enough to get the Murci to 60 mph in three ticks of the second-hand. AE posits that the car will retain its four-wheel-drive and will adopt stop-start and energy regeneration, the first in the family to do so. Expect to see it - and hear it roaring to life at valet stands everywhere- in 2012.

[Source: Auto Express]
Rendered Speculation: next Murcielago will be (*gulp*) longer and wider originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 03 Sep 2009 09:27:00 EST.
Sure, there are some cars on the road more bonkers than the Lamborghini Murcielago. But not many. After all, how do you best over 570 horsepower driving all four wheels? Well, how about nearly doubling the output and channeling it all through half the wheel count? That's exactly what Heffner Performance has done with its twin-turbo upgrade for the aging raging bull. By bolting on a set of turbochargers, the Sarasota, Florida-based tuning garage has boosted the corral up to 1,100 horsepower, all driving through the rear wheels.

As you can see from the photos in the high-res image gallery below and the pair of videos after the jump, the craftsmanship looks flawless. But it's the acceleration that really boggles the mind. With that much power channeled through two wheels, we don't want to ask about the standstill sprint to 60 mph, but Heffner's given us a hint at the twin-turbo Murci's in-gear acceleration times, which is really what it all comes down to. A stock Murcielago can jump from 60 miles per hour up to 130 in 9.5 seconds. Pretty impressive, but that's just for reference. The Heff? 5.1 seconds. In 90-degree heat. With "only" 950 horsepower dialed in. With all 1,100, Heffner figures she'll do it in less than four.
On Monday we shared a very nifty video of the lads at Autocar and a fire-breathing Blue Devil corvette chasing something around the hill route at Millbrook. Obviously, speculation was rampant about what sort of car had the camera strapped to it. Some folks went ahead and checked out Autocar since it was their video, others simply guessed. Results: Some of you were right! Others, very wrong. But, like the good parents that we are, Autoblog loves all of you equally. Moving on.

I'm going to go a little inside baseball for a moment, so <strike>bare</strike> bear with me. Yes, Autocar revealed that the chase car was indeed a Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce about two weeks ago. Trouble was, the clip wasn't on YouTube, meaning that we couldn't share it with you here on Autoblog. A questionable decision, but a decision, nonethelss. Anyhow, look - a Chevy Corvette ZR1 chasing a Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV around a track!!!

This really is an unbelievable video. First of all, you got two of the hottest cars in the world. Second, the Lambo should be a bit quicker than the ZR1, right? It has around 30 more horsepower, weighs about 60 pounds less and has AWD, allowing it to exit corners more quickly. Plus, the Lamborghini has a factory driver at the helm while the Corvette is being piloted by (gulp) an auto journalist. Only thing is, well... watch for yourself, after the jump. One more thing - not counting the "joke's on you, rich people!" Reventon, the LP670-4 SV is Lambo's most expensive vehicle and the ZR1 is (obviously) Chevy's. Can you image a race between the two brands' cheapest vehicles? Aveo vs. Gallardo LP560-4 strikes us as very funny.

Following closely in the footsteps of its rival from Maranello, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed in an interview with German Automobilewoche magazine that the Italian purveyor of high-end supercars is working on a hybrid Gallardo. Not surprisingly, the electrically assisted Bull is expected to hit the market in 2015 - the same year as the upcoming fuel-saving Ferrari.

In contrast to the recently announced fully electric SLS Gullwing from Mercedes-Benz, Lamborghini's eco-friendly efforts won't include replacing the traditional gasoline powerplant completely. Instead, Winkelmann suggests that a small electric motor would be used solely to get the car moving at low speeds, after which either the expected V10 or V12 engine would kick the fun into high gear.

Worry not, Lambo fans - there's no chance the company will lose focus on its high performance roots. In fact, the boys at Inside Line report that both the Gallardo and Murcièlago lines are destined to receive dedicated track-ready Balboni-style rear-wheel drive models to augment the automaker's already amazingly capable all-wheel drive supercars.

Lamborghini Reventon - Click above for high-res image gallery

Just four short months ago a rumor surfaced that Lamborghini would be making a topless version of its hottest model, the F22-inspired Reventon. Word is that today Lambo is showing off its most expensive ever ragin' bull to a super select cabal of people so wealthy that we'll never understand. Based on the Murcielago, the original carbon fiber Reventon was limited to 20 units (plus one for the museum) and cost just about $1 million. And therein lies the problem. As a Reventon owner, you have a 19 out of 6.5 billion chance of running into another person driving the same car as you -- not exclusive enough.

This is where the new drop top Rev comes in. Limited to just nine examples makes the new Lambo more than twice as exclusive. As its price will climb to $1.6 million, it had better be. Besides losing the roof, the Reventon Roadster will be more powerful than its hard-top cousins, as the convertible will get the LP670-4 SV's stonking 6.5-liter V12 good for 670 horsepower and 487 lb-ft of torque. You know, we could get used to this whole filthy rich thing.

Gallery: 2008 Lamborghini Reventon

[Source: eGMcartech]
Lamborghini Reventon Roadster revealed to a few well-heeled? originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 30 Jul 2009 13:01:00 EST.
Reiter Engineering used last weekend's 24 Hours of Spa race to reveal its Murcielago LP670 R-SV, a GT1 race-ready version of the already hardened LP 670-4 SV. The box-stock Lambo already shed 220 pounds compared to its non SV brethren, weighing in at 3,451 pounds. The Reiter racer, stripped of any non-essentials and with a body rendered entirely in carbon fiber, drops further 921 pounds to weigh in at just 2,530 pounds (1,150 kg).

Reiter is hoping the car will be one of the six allowable brands chosen for next year's FIA GT World Championship. You can read the press release on the taurean missile after the jump, and check out the gallery of high-res photos below.

Gallery: Reiter Engineering LP670 R-SV

[Source: Reiter Engineering]
Continue reading Reiter Engineering unveils Lamborghini Murcielago LP670 R-SV at Spa

Reiter Engineering unveils Lamborghini Murcielago LP670 R-SV at Spa originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 27 Jul 2009 11:00:00 EST.
If you've been waiting for Lamborghini to replace the aging Murcielago and were disappointed by recent reports that its successor may not arrive until 2012, the mavens over at Autogespot may have some good news for you.

While the Murci may stay on for another few years, word has it that Lamborghini is working on another model, apparently to run in parallel. The reports suggest that the new model, tentatively dubbed Jota (after the label previously used on special Miuras and Diablos of yore), will use the Murcielago's V12, albeit packaged in a shorter wheelbase with an even wider track and lightweight materials.

Any truth to the rumors? It's hard to tell, but in the meantime, Sant'Agata is said to be working on a Reventón Roadster to follow up on the limited-edition fighter jet-inspired supercar.

[Source: Autogespot]
Rumormill: Lamborghini working on short-wheelbase V12 Jota, Reventón Roadster originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 04 Jun 2009 16:27:00 EST. The Countach stayed in production for sixteen years from its introduction in 1974 until the Diablo replaced it in 1990, which in turn anchored Sant'Agata's line-up for eleven years until the Murcielago was introduced in 2001. Now eight years in production, the steel-bodied Raging Bull has grown pretty long in the tooth, even if it can still hold its own against its contemporary competition.

In order to keep it fresh, the Murci has spawned a seemingly endless succession of variants, from the original through the LP640, 40th Anniversary and Versace editions, fixed roof and roadsters versions, the Reventón, LP650-4 Roadster and LP670-4 SuperVeloce. Lambo's done a good job of keeping its biggest, baddest fighting bovine with the times, but they know it's about time this aging bull be put to pasture. However if the latest reports are any indication, it may yet be a couple of years more before the Murci meets its replacement.

When it does come along, though, Auto Motor und Sport says we can expect the new flagship Lambo to ditch the Murci's outmoded steel chassis in favor of an aluminum one - likely based on the Audi R8's. Draped in aluminum and carbon fiber, the chassis will, in all likelihood, carry a revised version of the Bizzarrini-designed V12 that was the company's first engine and which has, with considerable modification, carried on in the company's supercars ever since. While the wheelbase is expected to carry over from the outgoing Murcielago, the front overhang is expected to shrink, while all-wheel-drive will continue to put the power down to the tarmac.

[Source: Auto Motor und Sport]
Rendered Speculation: Lamborghini Murcielago successor not coming until 2012 originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 01 Jun 2009 16:27:00 EST.
We haven't necessarily had a shortage of photos of the Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce. In addition to the first batch of press photos released by Lamborghini, we also captured the super-Murcielago on the show floor in Geneva and once again here in the United States when it stopped by at one of our favorite weekly car gatherings. Even so, our salivary glands went into overdrive when we saw this latest batch of photos of the SuperVeloce.
Some automakers run their racing programs in-house, and some choose to out-source. While its principal rival falls under the former, Lamborghini opts for the latter, giving its blessing to German motorsport garage Reiter Engineering to campaign race-prepped Raging Bulls in European sportscar series. Earlier this month we brought you the first details and images on Reiter's latest racecar, a Gallardo LP560-4 prepped for the GT2 class. With that out of the way, Reiter is now reportedly turning its attention to its next project for the top-tier GT1 class. It's basis: the spankin' new Murcielago SV.

The ultimate version of the Lamborghini supercar was just revealed at the Geneva Auto Show last month, but the boffins at Reiter Engineering aren't about to waste any time. No details yet, but if the rear-drive-only LP560 GT2 is any indication, we can expect Reiter to axe the Murci's all-wheel-drive system to save weight as well. The GT1-spec Murcielago SV is being developed for the 2010 season, when the FIA GT Championship will be split into the GT2 European Championship and the GT1 World Championship. While the aforementioned LP560 will take on the former, the competition Superveloce will take on the likes of the Nismo GT-R, Ford GT and two or three more anticipated models, each supplying a maximum of two teams with two cars each, in the latter that will include races in Argentina, Australia, South Africa and the UAE in addition to the European events.

Reiter's been known to turn the racing versions of Lamborghini's roadcars back into street machinery, with examples like the Gallardo GT3 Strada and Murcielago R-GT Strada in its repertoire, but we couldn't imagine them taking the street-bound SV to even more extreme grounds... could we?

Gallery: Geneva 2009: Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce

[Source: Autosport]
Reiter Engineering developing GT1-spec Lamborghini Murcielago SV originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 10:01:00 EST. This "tuned" Nissan was spotted at China's version of SEMA, the Beijing Automobile Accessories and Decorations Show. It's from a firm called MPS, which stands for Max Power Sports. Apparently, they bumped the stock 300 hp engine to a more Lambo-esque 500 poinies, so at least the "Power" part seems somewhat credible, but the real draw is that Lamborghini Murcielago body kit. It apparently takes a lot of extra bodywork to create a faux mid-engine look. Note the "Driftmaster" sign in the backround. We doubt this would be fun to run in the D1. We'd stick with the LP670-4 as driven by Sam Hubinette for sideways duty, and have to say we prefer the Tractorri Mustang in the Lamborghini Frankencar category.
Sam Hubinette is one lucky guy. The Crazy Swede gets sideways in an 800-horsepower Dodge Viper for his day job and does occasional stunt driving in his off time. Last year Lamborghini hired him to drift the Gallardo LP560-4 in the streets of Los Angeles for a commercial, and they must have liked it so much that they hired him again to burn rubber in the brand, brand new Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce in Germany. The video is the first we have seen of the car outside the show floor of the Geneva Motor Show, and while shorter than the Gallardo vid, it does at least provide a soundtrack for the upgraded V12 that's now producing 670 horsepower. Follow the jump to watch the video. Thanks for the tip, Saikou!

Gallery: Geneva 2009: Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce

[Source: YouTube]
Continue reading VIDEO: Hubinette drifts the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce

VIDEO: Hubinette drifts the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 13 Mar 2009 13:29:00 EST.
Lamborghini Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster - Click above for high-res gallery

Lamborghini has just released the first batch of official images showing its latest limited run special, the Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster, which follows the LP 670-4 SuperVeloce that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. The LP 650-4 Roadster is definitely not for those who deny their follicle deficiencies by wearing a rug on their head. With a top speed of 205 mph, anything not firmly connected to your scalp will be lost to the winds.

The crew in Sant'Agata Bolognese have pumped some extra shots of espresso into this bull - the 6.5-liter V12 now produces 650 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque through all four wheels. That's enough to leave 62 mph in your wake after just 3.4 seconds. Lamborghini is only planning to crank out 50 of these roadsters at an as yet undisclosed price, which means the high-res images in our gallery below are likely the closest you'll ever get to one.

Gallery: Lamborghini Murcielago LP 650-4 Roadster

[Source: Lamborghini]
Continue reading First images of Lamborghini Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster

First images of Lamborghini Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 13 Mar 2009 11:57:00 EST.
