Want to watch two of the fastest production automobiles in the world line up on an open runway to race? Want to see it happen a whole bunch of times?

We thought so. Featuring the well-known Bugatti Veyron in one lane and the less-well-known but just as impressive Koenigsegg Agera S Hundra - which is powered by the same 1,040-horsepower twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 engine as other Agera S models, but with some extra lightweight bits along with lots and lots of gold - in the other, you can rest assured that the video down below is full of carbon fiber, booming exhaust notes, turbo whine and asinine acceleration. And, though we won't spoil the results, we think it may be full of surprising victories for those who don't keep tabs on such important figures as power-to-weight ratios and the like...

Now for the disclaimers. Are both drivers aware of how to extract maximum performance from their machines? Are they both in perfect states of tune? Would the result be different from a standing start? Was the fact that the video was shot at Koenigsegg's home track a display of favoritism? Was there a full moon the night before? We have no idea. That said, watching well over 2,000 horsepower line up for a race is nearly always worth watching. So, without further ado, we present the video below.
Continue reading When a Bugatti Veyron drag races against a Koenigsegg Agera S Hundra, we all win

When a Bugatti Veyron drag races against a Koenigsegg Agera S Hundra, we all win originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 03 Jun 2013 19:15:00 EST.
The crew at Koenigsegg is pretty confident the company's Agera R can put some high-end metal in its place. That includes bruisers like the McLaren P1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari, thanks in part to the fact that the Agera R puts down more power than either of its two main competitors. The P1 and LaFerrari also weigh more and boast lower top speeds than the Swedish machine. While speaking at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Koenigsegg representatives even said they had little doubt the Agera R would be able to turn out a faster lap time than the Pagani Huayra on the Top Gear test track.

As you may recollect, the Koenigsegg Agear R boasts 1,140 horsepower from its twin turbo 5.0-liter V8. Weighing in at 3,163 pounds, the machine is capable of bolting to 200 miles per hour in a scant 17.68 seconds on its way to a top speed of 273 mph. Sounds like a party.
Koenigsegg believes Agera R can beat P1, LaFerrari originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 19 Mar 2013 14:02:00 EST.
There are but a few certain universal truths. Among them: locking yourself out of your own vehicle sucks. That fact is accurate whether your keys are sitting in the ignition of your '89 Ford Escort or your Koenigsegg CCR. Just ask the owner of this particular Swedish supercar. While at a track day, the owner shut the door with the keys lounging contentedly in the ignition, and the car did what it's supposed to do by locking everything up tight. Rather than call up a local locksmith, the owner worked with a set of coat hangers to pull the keys from their resting place and out of the passenger side window.

While whoever filmed the clip of the owner fishing out his keys calls the scenario a fail, we're firmly of the mind that this is the biggest win that could have come from the event. There's no pampered owner throwing a fit or attempting to bust out the side glass, just a dude trying to get into his car. Check out the clip below for yourself, complete with a few shots of the machine on track.
Continue reading Even Koenigsegg drivers use coat hangers when they lock themselves out

Even Koenigsegg drivers use coat hangers when they lock themselves out originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 11 Mar 2013 19:14:00 EST.
Koenigsegg took to the 2013 Geneva Motor Show to celebrate a milestone in the company's history. The Swedish supercar manufacturer has officially built 100 units over the past ten years, and to mark the occasion, designers whipped up the Agera S Hundra. Swedish for - you guessed it - one hundred, the Hundra heralds the arrival of the latest flavor of Agera. While the standard Agera S features a twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 engine good for 1,040 horsepower, carbon fiber wheels that tip the scales at around 14.5 pounds and a total dry weight of 2,821 pounds thanks to a full carbon fiber body, the Hundra offers up a few additional tricks.

A one-off creation, the commemorative edition delivers hand-laid 24-karat gold leaf along the exposed gel-coated carbon body. Various other bits of the hypercar get the precious metal treatment as well, including the exhaust, rear deck struts and even the coil springs themselves. How much is all this insanity worth? A cool $1.6 million. Money may not be able to buy you happiness, but it can surely put your tail in an Agera S. Check out the full press release below.
Continue reading Koenigsegg Agera S Hundra is a carbon fiber and gold leaf party

Koenigsegg Agera S Hundra is a carbon fiber and gold leaf party originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 05 Mar 2013 03:32:00 EST.
The YouTube series Drive has been doing weekly videos on Koenigsegg, and in this latest they get into the Free Valve technology being developed by Swedish company Cargine AB and Koenigsegg. Free Valve uses a small, individual pneumatic actuator to open each valves and either air pressure or springs to close them. The setup omits the need for camshafts and the related paraphernalia, as well as increasing the programmability, precision and efficiency of valve operation. Engines using the Free Valve system can also be smaller and lighter.

It has been tested for the last two years on a Saab 9-5 wagon that's done 60,000 kilometers so far. Koenigsegg says that compared to a traditional four-cylinder engine, horsepower and torque using Free Valve go up by 30 percent each, while fuel consumption drops by 30 percent and emissions drop by 50 percent.

It won't be ready for mass production for a while yet, and even then it will probably start at the top of the automotive food chain. Scanned from a brochure for the coupe, the name is a reference to its power output of one horsepower per kilogram. It's weight isn't known, but Cars UK says it's lighter than the Agera R and so probably in the area of 1,250 to 1,350 kilograms, and hence, hp.

Koenigsegg the owner is apparently making the rounds of Asia and the Middle East to secure orders for the five One:1 models that will be produced. Cost is in the $2-million ballpark, which puts the One:1 in the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport ballpark, yet with acceleration that just might beat it. We'll probably never see it outside of scans and customs catastrophes, but it's good to see the Swedish speed merchant continually raising his game.
Koenigsegg One:1 boasts one horsepower per kilogram, is headed to China originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 17:59:00 EST.
About a month ago, we brought you news of a monstrously powerful one-off from Koenigsegg called the Agera R BLT. At the time we reported that the car was being built for a Chinese man of some great wealth and that the $2 million price tag represented the floor for a custom job like this.

Now it seems there's been a bit of a development.

It seems that the Agera R BLT never quite made it to its intended customer, having been waylaid just recently by Chinese government authorities. Customs officials took hold of the exotic, claiming that the owner was attempting to smuggle the car into the country as a way of avoiding paying import tax on the thing.

Now, no one likes to pay taxes, but we're almost inclined to agree with the owner on this one. The source at CarNewsChina.com indicates that the pre-tax cost of the Koenigsegg would amount to the equivalent of $2.35 million - meanwhile other sources in the Chinese media report that the tax-included price of the car is more like 30 million yuan, or $4.7 million. No word yet on what the fine for this level of tax evasion will be.

The Agera bust is just one highlight of a much larger anti-smuggling campaign going down in China right now. Here's hoping that the heat dies down a bit, restitution is made, and that car and billionaire are blissfully united (we're suckers for a happy ending).
One-off Koenigsegg Agera R BLT seized by Chinese customs originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 15 Oct 2012 18:30:00 EST.
The 1,185-horsepower Koenigsegg Agera R costs $2 million. Still, those who enter the seven-figure club are known to spend far more than mere MSRP because they can't risk their multimillion-dollar car being just like someone else's multimillion-dollar car. That's why Koenigsegg has a customization division called BLT. We don't know what that stands for, but are fairly certain it has nothing to do with delicious sandwiches.

To showcase the level of available customization, we present this Koenigsegg Agera R BLT. Built for a customer in China, its carbon body is tinted blue and set off with red pinstriping. Inside, there's lots of blue leather and blue cross-stitching to go with "many other unique features chosen by its owner."

We love the bodywork, but for a company that charges $28,000 for a Thule rooftop cargo box and $11,700 for winter wheels and tires for the Agera R, the price for this kind of personalization must be stupefying. Luckily, having a good look at it in our image gallery is free.
Koenigsegg shows off customization chops with Agera R BLT originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 16 Sep 2012 20:02:00 EST.
The lowly Mark II Ford Granada isn't high on anyone's want list. The machine wallowed from the factory with at most 160 horsepower from a gasoline V6 and with as little as 53 ponies from a wheesematic Peugeot diesel four cylinder. But where most of the world sees ancient crap can, one owner in the UK saw heaps of potential. After swapping the stock mill for a Cosworth four-cylinder, the owner was on the verge of ditching the machine for an R32 Nissan Skyline straight from the land of the Rising Sun.

That's when things took a slightly more interesting turn.

Instead of forking over the cash for the Skyline, the owner yanked the Cosworth lump and set to cutting the chassis to make room for more cylinders. When the dust settled, he had managed to cram a twin-turbocharged 4.7-liter Ford V8 from the heart of a Koenigsegg CCX supercar, good for a face-ripping 1,700 horsepower. An independent rear suspension from a 2003-2004 Ford Mustang Cobra handles putting that muscle to the rear tires and a set of massive Porsche brakes bring the whole party to a stand still. It's a miracle of fabrication, determination and insanity. We love it. Check out a video of the first start up to see what we mean.
Continue reading Koenigsegg CCX-powered Ford Granada is the ultimate unlikely hammer [w/video]

Koenigsegg CCX-powered Ford Granada is the ultimate unlikely hammer [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 14 Jun 2012 12:32:00 EST. The Koenigsegg Agera R recently took to the Nürburgring for a little fun. Not surprisingly, there were a few cameras on hand to see the 1,100-horsepower titan whomp its way around the course, including one lens stationed at the exit to the pits. At the end of the track's long straight, the vantage point allows viewers to see the vehicles on track at the peak of speed. For the Agera R, that means a flyby at somewhere around 250 mph. Now, we'll be the first to say there's no way of discerning just how fast the Koenigsegg is actually traveling when it comes by the pits. Sadly, "damn quick" isn't an acceptable unit of speed.

Check out the video after the jump to see what we mean. The first half of the clip shows the supercar simply cruising around. If you want to see the real action, we suggest jumping ahead to around 1:30.
Continue reading Watch a Koenigsegg Agera R do a 250-mph flyby of the Nürburgring pits

Watch a Koenigsegg Agera R do a 250-mph flyby of the Nürburgring pits originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 09 Apr 2012 12:30:00 EST.
Sure, you could likely satiate your lust for speed with any number of mind-blowing and reality-bending supercars... but if you really want to break away from the pack with something that's as fast as it is different, we direct your attention to the matte blue machine above.

For 2013, Koenigsegg has updated the Agera R with more power - a staggering 1,140 when the tank is filled with E85 - one-piece hollow carbon fiber wheels, nano-surfaced cylinder sleeves, a so-called Triplex suspension setup co-developed with Öhlins Racing, standard stability control (which certainly sounds like a good idea considering the number of horses at its disposal...), a new exhaust system and downforce-adding front winglets.

We'd say that counts for a pretty thorough refresh of the Agera R for 2013. Have a look at our high-res image gallery of live photographs from the floor at the Geneva Motor Show to take in the 273-mile-per-hour goodness, and then click past the break for the full rundown from Koenigsegg.
Continue reading Koenigsegg Agera R is a matte blue streak of lightning

Koenigsegg Agera R is a matte blue streak of lightning originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 06 Mar 2012 19:28:00 EST.
The Koenigsegg Agera is one stupendously quick supercar. It can travel from a dead stop to 186 miles per hour and back down to zero in a scant 21.19 seconds. That's not even enough time to sit through a car insurance commercial.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 isn't quite as quick, but it can boast some serious performance chops all its own. The race-ready 911 can hit 62 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds, and a trip to 120 miles per hour takes only 11.5 seconds.

But while the GT3 RS 4.0 can't quite keep up with the Agera once the rubber starts rolling, this athletic Porsche can stop a bit more quickly. The GT3 RS 4.0 has reportedly beaten the Agera's braking record of 186 mph to zero in 6.66 seconds, and we have the video that proves it. Hit the jump to watch the speedometer plunge from 186 mph to zero in only 6.5 seconds.
Continue reading Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 claims new braking record

Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 claims new braking record originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 05 Jan 2012 16:57:00 EST.
Koenigsegg is officially amazing, at least according to the Guinness Book of World Records. The well-known record-keeping organization has granted the Koenigsegg Agera the record of quickest 0-300-0 kilometers per hour by a two-seat production car. The time? A scant 21.19 seconds, recorded at the Angeholm Airfield in Sweden on September 2, 2011, with Robert Serwanski behind the wheel.

That's just over 186 miles per hour, then back to a complete stop, in 21 seconds. Yowza. That's not the only impressive feat accomplished that day by the Agera, though it is the only one that was certified as a world record by Guinness. For the record, Koenegsegg's masterpiece scooted to 300 km/h in 14.53 seconds on its way to 200 mph in 17.68 seconds. It can stop with equal alacrity, taking an evil 6.66 seconds to halt from 300 km/h and 7.28 from 200 mph.

The final stat is arguably the most impressive: 0-200 mph and back to 0 in just 24.96 seconds. Want to know what's even better than that? The fact that it was all recorded on video. Click past the break to see for yourself.
Continue reading Koenigsegg Agera gets official Guinness World Record for quickest 0-300-0 km/h

Koenigsegg Agera gets official Guinness World Record for quickest 0-300-0 km/h originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 30 Nov 2011 13:28:00 EST.
Cars don't get much faster than the Bugatti Veyron and Koenigsegg CCXR. You want to go any faster, you'll need a top-fuel dragster or a Bonneville land speed record machine. That's why the two have been at each other's throats for as long as they've been around.

While the two insane supercars may seem similar on paper - two seats, mid-engine, 1,000 horsepower, stratospheric pricetag - their approach could hardly have been any different. One was the sum of all of an industrial giant's considerable resources, the other the project of a start-up with a dream.

So which is faster in a straight line, the all-wheel-drive heavyweight or the rear-drive sprite? Somebody somewhere put the two together and raced them from a 60-km/h (37 miles per hour) rolling start all the way up past 310 km/h (192 mph). Follow the jump to see how it went down.
Continue reading Bugatti Veyron vs. Koenigsegg CCXR in white hot drag race

Bugatti Veyron vs. Koenigsegg CCXR in white hot drag race originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 07 Nov 2011 16:56:00 EST.
We all know Koenigsegg makes blisteringly fast exotic cars. The latest hyper machine from Sweden is the Agera R, and Koenigsegg wanted to see just how fast its two-door toy could go. With the help of an (unnamed) third party to verify the results and a Racelogic VBox, the Koenigsegg team set out to make some high-speed passes at its Sweden-based proving ground.

The results... are amazing:

 0-300 km/h (186 mph) = 14.53 sec
0-200 mp/h = 17.68 sec

300-0 km/h = 6.66 sec
200-0 mp/h = 7.28 sec

0-300-0 km/h = 21.19 sec
0-200-0 mp/h = 24.96 sec

The Koenigsegg Agera R has impressive acceleration numbers, but we're equally stunned by how quickly the car can come to a stop. Koenigsegg says it has video of the runs, which will be released soon. For now, all you can do is stare at the photo above and make vroom vroom noises while imagining the G-forces at play.
Continue reading Koenigsegg claims records, says Agera R goes 0-200 mph in 17.68 sec.

Koenigsegg claims records, says Agera R goes 0-200 mph in 17.68 sec. originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 02 Sep 2011 19:30:00 EST.
Sticking to images and music, not spoken words, this isn't exactly a tour of the Koenigsegg factory - more like an artistic representation of it. But the Agera and CCXR make their appearances, as do Christian Koenigsegg, burnouts and beauty shots.
A Koenigsegg key comes back to life - Click above to watch video after the jump

Have you ever thought about getting your key cleaned? No? Neither have we. But if you were the owner of a Koenigsegg, perhaps you would. The auto-obsessed minds at eGarage.com took the key of their Koenigsegg CCX in for a bit of a polish. The body of the key is made from sterling silver, meaning the finish will tarnish over time.

A trip to Cavallino jewelers and a few minutes under a polishing wheel help bring the key back to life. The eGarage team brought along their cameras so you could see the key both before and after its major rubdown. Click past the jump to watch the Koenigsegg key regain its shine. Also, while you're down there, you can watch a preview of the videos that eGarage will be pushing out in the very near future.
Continue reading Cleaning the key to a happy Koenigsegg CCX

Cleaning the key to a happy Koenigsegg CCX originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 14 Jun 2011 16:59:00 EST. Already one of the fastest cars on the road, the Koenigsegg CCR is not the first that'd spring to mind when thinking of rides that could use some additional tuning. It's already got 816 horsepower, after all, and can top out at around 245 miles per hour. What more could you want?

Well, that was before the new Agera came out. Now the previous-generation Koenigsegg suddenly seems a little outdated. So the UK's Evo magazine - a publication blessed with a garage full of supercars - brought its CCR to the folks at Edo Competition for a little... enhancement.

The tuning house known for its custom Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches carefully went to work on Evo's Koenigsegg, remapping the ECU and tweaking the pair of superchargers. Then they massaged the transmission, reworked the gearing, upgraded the brakes, and enhaned the car's appearance inside and out.

The result is 891 horsepower, re-calibrated to kick in at lower revs for quicker acceleration at the expense of top end. Follow the jump for all the details in the press release and check out the high-resolution images in the mega gallery below for a closer look.

Koenigsegg certainly caught our attention when it unveiled the new Agera R at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. With its Speed Racer paint scheme and 1,115 horsepower on tap, it darn well better have. But the exotic Swedish automaker has only now released the full specifications, and suffice it to say, they don't disappoint.

As we already knew, the Agera R packs a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces a prodigious 940 horsepower on standard 95-octane gasoline, but fill it with E85 bio-ethanol blend and you're looking at a whopping 1,115 hp. Driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, that's good enough for a 2.9-second sprint to 60 mph.

The engine is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg, however. The carbon-Kevlar body generates 300 kilos (660 pounds) of downforce at 250 km/h (155 mph), to which the turbine wheels contribute, wrapped in specially-made Michelin rubber. Koenigsegg says their latest supercar will also pull a neck-straining 1.6 g around the skid pad - enough to trounce just about anything else on the road. Follow the jump for the full specifications.
