<br /> Well, what do you know? K.I.T.T. was a big hit here at Barrett-Jackson today. We'd never have guessed that there would be enough fans (with money) of the original Knight Rider series here at the auction to drive bidding all the way to $40,000 (add another $4K in fees), but indeed there were. This isn't actually one of the original cars that was used by the Hoff in the '80s, but bits and pieces of it were in fact used in the craptastic new version that our own Mr. N&uacute;&ntilde;ez so lovingly mocks each and every week in his hilarious <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/knight+rider+liveblog/">live blog</a>. Not all is lost, though, for fans of the real K.I.T.T., as this is a fully functioning replica, complete with the trademark flashing front strobe lights and two working monitors inside. Plus, how many of your friends have talking cars that are signed by George Barris? None. Perhaps it was worth the dough after all.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-1982-trans-am-k-i-t-t-replica/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: 1982 Trans Am K.I.T.T. replica</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-1982-trans-am-k-i-t-t-replica/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/barret_kitt_replica_large_12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-1982-trans-am-k-i-t-t-replica/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/barret_kitt_replica_large_19_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-1982-trans-am-k-i-t-t-replica/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/barret_kitt_replica_large_11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-1982-trans-am-k-i-t-t-replica/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/barret_kitt_replica_large_14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-1982-trans-am-k-i-t-t-replica/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/barret_kitt_replica_large_20_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><strong>Jeremy Korzeniewski / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/16/barrett-jackson-2009-1982-pontiac-trans-am-k-i-t-t-replica/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: 1982 Pontiac Trans Am K.I.T.T. replica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 16 Jan 2009 19:58:00 EST. <div align="center"><strong><em>Click above for high-res gallery of K.I.T.T. and the Mio GPS</em></strong><br /></div>
</small> <br />There were a lot of movie and TV-themed vehicles at SEMA this year, but one of our favorite entertainment tie-ins had to be the Mio Knight Rider GPS system. We told you about this way back in June, played with it when the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/02/in-the-autoblog-garage-kitt-shelby-gt500-kr/">K.I.T.T. visited the Autoblog Garage</a>, and messed with it some more in Vegas. It sounds exactly like you'd hope it would. "Michael, you're going the wrong way, you ninny," isn't in the regular playlist, but it did have some attitude. Even better than laying hands on the Mio, however, was the fact that K.I.T.T. ( no, not the Mustang) was actually in the Mio booth selling the product. It was almost too much to handle. As we told you in June, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/20/knight-rider-themed-gps-system-with-authentic-kitt-voice/">Mio Knight Rider GPS unit</a> uses the voice the one-and-only William Daniels, the original voice of K.I.T.T., and asks cordially "Hello Michael, where do you want to go today?" when powered up. The 4.3-inch LCD display is also flanked by a series of red LEDs reminiscent of K.I.T.T.'s nose-mounted lights. It's available for sale now at about $270. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-k-i-t-t-helps-sell-gps-systems/low/">SEMA 2008: K.I.T.T. helps sell GPS systems</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-k-i-t-t-helps-sell-gps-systems/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/kittformio---1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-k-i-t-t-helps-sell-gps-systems/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/kittformio---2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-k-i-t-t-helps-sell-gps-systems/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/kittformio---3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-k-i-t-t-helps-sell-gps-systems/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/kittformio---4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-k-i-t-t-helps-sell-gps-systems/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/kittformio---5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <strong>Photos copyright (C)2008 Frank Filipponio/Weblogs, Inc.</strong><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/09/sema-2008-k-i-t-t-helps-sell-knight-rider-gps-for-mio/">SEMA 2008: K.I.T.T. helps sell Knight Rider GPS for Mio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 09 Nov 2008 12:20:00 EST. The dreck-fest that is Knight Rider has just received an order for four additional scripts. Rather than go find real writing gigs, the KR team can continue cranking out such gems of broadcast drama while obviously in a drunken stupor. The worst part of the news of NBC's order is that such an action often precedes a full-season buy. Fans of long-form Ford advertisements with stupefyingly horrid dialogue will be pleased, and at least Nunez can continue with his <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/15/knight-rider-the-liveblog-season-1-episode-4/">live blog</a>, so the rest of us can avoid the show entirely, yet still laugh at the inanity. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3ib51a5e93dda16ab7614bcfd21099dbe5">THR</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/16/nbc-orders-up-four-more-episodes-of-knight-rider/">NBC orders up four more episodes of Knight Rider</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 16 Oct 2008 08:33:00 EST. In other words, Nielsen is estimating that 4.9% of all TV households were watching Knight Rider last night, and that group includes TV households that both did and did not have their TVs turned on at the time. The second number means that out of all the TVs turned on between 8PM and 9PM last night, 10% were watching Knight Rider. <br /><br />How does that measure up with Knight Rider's competition on Wednesday nights? Not so hot. KR was third in the 18-49 demographic and 4th in the more important 18-34 demo. Robert Seldman who writes for tvbythenumbers.com tells us that the 18-34 year old demographic was even more interested in watching America's Next Top Model than Michael Knight, and that includes both males and females.<br /><br />The Nunez household counted itself among the few that watched the Knight Rider premiere, and in case you missed it, check out Alex's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/24/kight-rider-the-liveblog-season-1-episode-1/">liveblog of the first episode</a>. He's promised to be in front of the tube each week so you don't have to. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://tvbythenumbers.com/2008/09/25/early-ratings-america-still-loves-dancing-criminals-and-crime-scenes/5306">tvbythenumbers.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/26/knight-rider-premier-pulls-4-9-10-nielsen-rating/">Knight Rider premiere pulls 4.9/10 Nielsen rating</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 26 Sep 2008 08:58:00 EST. Tonight we gather to watch the train wreck that is NBC's Knight Rider, now a weekly series in the wake of the catastrophically bad telemovie that aired back in February. Whatever your stand, we have something that might interest you. While perusing eBay's listings, a reader stumbled upon one of the original Trans Ams used in the 1980's chapter of the Knight Rider saga. Up for auction is one 1984 Pontiac Trans Am, black and tan, with a distinctive red light bar in the nose. Yep, one genuine KITT. <br /><br />Not only was this one of the featured cars in seasons three and four, but it is one of the rare 300-mph "Super Pursuit Mode" T/As with additional aero devices designed to, well, make the car look like it could go faster. Actually, the eBay description tells us the Super Pursuit Mode KITT was designed "to give KITT a 40% increase in speed through the assistance of retractable airfoils and jet boosters." Considering that this Trans Am still features a 5.0L V8 and automatic transmission, we would guess that half of that top speed is actually a stretch for this old Pontiac.<br /><br />Still, with a starting price of just $26,000, the winning bidder can own a true piece of small-screen history. Kustomized by legendary Kar stylist George Barris, this particular car was also used in the 2006 flick, <em>The Benchwarmers</em>. In one notable scene, John Lovitz confesses that he has yet to master the peel out as he drove it across a curb outside the Pizza Hut. Ouch. Hopefully that buffed right out. Regardless, the return of the series has been <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/02/officially-official-knight-rider-airing-wednesday-nights-this-f/">green lit for the Fall</a> and Shadowy Flight recently sat down for an interview with Gary Scott Thompson, Executive Producer and Showrunner of the series. Thompson's credentials include creating the show <em>Las Vegas</em> and the original <em>Fast and the Furious</em> movie, and he also points out that he had nothing to do with the 2-hour <em>Knight Rider</em> movie that aired in February. The show's new EP revealed that he and his writers are leaving the 2-hour movie in the past. His new writing staff, which includes writers from <em>Lost</em>, <em>Prison Break</em> and <em>Smallville</em>, but also <em>Walker, Texas Ranger</em> and <em>Charmed</em>, is dealing with some of those plot points introduced in the movie that now can't be ignored, but are basically going to start all over again with the first episode. <br /><br />You can check out the two-part interview by hitting the source link below, but the major bit of news revealed is that Turbo Boost will again be part of KITT's arsenal, though the technology will be reinvented for this era where fast cars that jump aren't all that mind blowing. Thompson also told Shadowy Flight that the overly winged Attack Mode KITT is being redone and will be different than the one seen in the movie. Finally, Thompson compares his <em>Knight Rider</em> series that's still in gestation to one of our favorite shows on TV, <em>Battlestar Galactica</em>. Both are reinventions of older TV shows, but BG is currently the shining light of modern television, while <em>Knight Rider</em> has gotten off to an extremely rough start. We hope it compares to the weekly trials of Admiral Adama and the crew of Galactica, but we're not holding our breath. <em>Thanks for the tip, Neil!</em><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-new-kitt-official-photos/low/">The new KITT - OFFICIAL PHOTOS</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-new-kitt-official-photos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/f-150_walltoplightrendering3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-new-kitt-official-photos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/dsc00007_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-new-kitt-official-photos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/screenshot_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-new-kitt-official-photos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/knightrider_deadfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-new-kitt-official-photos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/knightrider_34front_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://shadowyflight.com/news/2008/04/exclusive-interview-with-gary.php">Shadowy</a> <a href="http://shadowyflight.com/news/2008/04/exclusive-interview-with-gary-scott-thompson.php">Flight</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/28/knight-rider-producer-interviewed-turbo-boost-battlestar-galac/">Knight Rider producer interviewed: Turbo Boost, Battlestar Galactica and new Attack Mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 28 Apr 2008 11:33:00 EST. The Peacock network unveiled its Fall lineup today and, despite rumors that it would appear on Friday nights, the new Knight Rider is relegated to the Hump night at 8-9PM EST. Encore showings will also run each week on Saturday night from 9-10PM EST. We're a bit surprised, or perhaps disappointed, that the show will be kicking the night off at 8 o'clock, as it suggests adult themes will not be present. Not that we're looking for lesbian overtures in every episode as was brazenly and inexplicably included in the pilot two-hour movie, but knowing that the new KR is sanitized for my nephew's protection is just one more nail in this show's coffin. <br /><br />Nevertheless, your friendly neighborhood Autoblog plans to watch every episode until the show gets cancelled. Alex Nunez will liveblog each episode every Wednesday night, just like <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/17/knight-rider-the-liveblog/">he did the two-hour movie</a>. You're all invited to follow along as Alex poignantly picks apart each episode. Bring a box of tissues, though. You'll need them to dab the blood away from your eyes. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117983342.html?categoryid=14&amp;cs=1">Variety</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/02/officially-official-knight-rider-airing-wednesday-nights-this-f/">Officially Official: Knight Rider airing Wednesday nights this Fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 02 Apr 2008 16:01:00 EST. Being nearly two minutes long, this new spot is more like a mini behind-the-scenes documentary in which the writer/producer of the show explains a few things and we're introduced to the new Michael Knight played by some ex-soap star named Justin Bruening. Bruening explains to the camera that his new series is not a remake, it's "a sequel of the original series." Well, sequels are always better than the original right? <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/09/video-nbc-releases-2-minute-knight-rider-preview/">Follow the jump</a> to view the video in full that contains a number of actual scenes from the upcoming 2-hour movie premiere. You can also check out the previously released <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/24/video-first-knight-rider-teaser-trailer-airs/">15-second</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/06/nbc-releases-second-knight-rider-tv-spot/">30-second</a> spots. <em>Thanks for the tip, Phil!</em><br /><br />[Source: YouTube]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/09/video-nbc-releases-2-minute-knight-rider-preview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: NBC releases 2-minute Knight Rider preview</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/09/video-nbc-releases-2-minute-knight-rider-preview/">VIDEO: NBC releases 2-minute Knight Rider preview</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 09 Jan 2008 12:59:00 EST. This new batch finally gives us enough angles of both the KITT Hero and KITT Attack cars, including <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-new-kitt-official-photos/531925/">KITT's interior</a>, to make a judgment on how successful the transformation is. <br /><br />One thing we always liked about the original KITT was how simple it was: just a jet black exterior with black wheels. The GT500KR KITT Hero car conforms to this ethos, with an exterior that doesn't distinguish itself very much from a standards GT500KR save for the black paint accented by matte black racing stripes and the swooping red light bars in the hood nostrels. But why the chrome wheels? The blingy rims contrast too much with the stealth exterior treatment. What if KITT were trying to penetrate a nuclear waste facility and a search light bounced off his 20-inchers? They're not very practical for corporation-based vigilante crime fighting, if you ask us.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-new-kitt-official-photos/low/">The new KITT - OFFICIAL PHOTOS</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-new-kitt-official-photos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/f-150_walltoplightrendering3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-new-kitt-official-photos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/dsc00007_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-new-kitt-official-photos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/screenshot_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-new-kitt-official-photos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/knightrider_deadfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-new-kitt-official-photos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/knightrider_34front_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/14/spoiler-alert-more-pics-of-knight-riders-gt500kr-kitt/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SPOILER ALERT!
