This is what a $200,000 Mazda Miata looks like

Mazda has just revealed the latest iteration of its MX-5 Miata GT4 race car, and it promises to be the meanest one you'll ever meet.

Mazda has Jota Sport building the GT4 using carbon fiber doors, splitter rear diffuser and wing with an FIA-spec roll cage inside. Under the hood crouches a turbocharged 2.0-liter MZR cranking out 320 horsepower. In a car that only weighs only 2,200 pounds, every horse is pulling less than seven pounds each. A six-speed sequential shift gearbox is standard equipment. A separate cooling system for the differential and gearbox keeps things less heated and adjustable traction control helps keep the car between the lines. Mazda says the car will be fully homologated for GT4 racing.

"The car is an easy car to race and would even suit track day enthusiasts. We are still developing the car, but we are now at a point that we can offer this car to customers safe in the knowledge that it is going to be a front runner in any GT4 field," says Sam Hignett, Managing Director of Jota Group.

All that fast won't come cheap. The monster Miata starts at $197k with options like soft touch control panel, lithium power pack, endurance exhaust and four-way adjustable dampers taking the price up and up. Despite the daunting price, the Miata still works out as pretty affordable by turnkey GT4 standards.

To that end, VW pulled out all the stops on the eve of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, bringing along 10 vehicles from across the range. Lamborghini LP700-4 order guide promises 690 hp, 0-62 in 2.9 seconds

We've heard plenty of speculation about Lamborghini's upcoming Murciélago replacement, the LP700-4, and now a leaked dealer order guide gives us a glimpse of exactly what we can expect from the new flagship Raging Bull.

The LP700-4 (or Aventador, or Jota, as it's been known) is powered by a 6.5-liter V12 with 690 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque on tap, routed to the ground via all-wheel drive. Lamborghini's new seven-speed independent shifting rod (ISR, read about it here) transmission is fitted to the new supercar, and the automaker is claiming super-quick shift times of just 50 milliseconds. That, combined with a dry weight of only 3,472 pounds, means that the LP700-4 will sprint to 62 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds. That, friends, is fast.

In the leaked dealer order guide, which you can see for yourself in our high-res image gallery, Lamborghini details out the whole host of standard and optional equipment for the new LP700-4. New colors like Grigio Estoque and Arancio Argos are available for the exterior, and many different color choices can be had for the Sportivo interior, with or without Alcantara. Of course, high-tech goodies like sat-nav, iPod and USB connectivity and Bluetooth are standard fare, not to mention a giant heaping of street cred.

2012 Lamborghini Jota teasers leaked? [UPDATED]

The Internet is hard at work again, and you know what that means: in this case, fuzzy images of things that might or might not be legit Lamborghini shots. With the aid of Google Translate, an Italian site says it came across these shots "while wandering the net," and wonders what they might be. A logical guess might be the Murcielago successor codenamed Jota, but there's little to recommend that guess and a lot to discount it.

In the front aspect there is a row of LEDs flanking a central scoop, but no headlights can be discerned. In back there's an Estoque-esque taillight treatment and a beautiful set of haunches, but the tailpipe positioning is awkward, both how high it is and how far to the left. And there's that "20122012" at the top, and what looks like a magnification cursor in the center of both photos.

Yet while we can't say this passes any tests, if the back of the next Lambo looks anything like this we'll be very pleased indeed.

Lamborghini took its Murcielago successor (codename: Jota) to the 'Ring instead of rolling it out at the Paris Motor Show. Looking for all the world like Sant'Agata took a Ferrari 512TR and threw a leftover Vector bodykit on it, about the only form undisturbed is the massive exhaust exit and some semblance of a greenhouse. Regardless, it sounds outstanding. Make the jump for proof.

We're only a few short days away from the 2010 Paris Motor Show and of all the automakers teasing their showgoing concepts and debuts, perhaps none have been as elusive as Lamborghini. After releasing three teaser images of its forthcoming Paris reveal, Automobili Lamborghini has just sent out this fourth shadowy image, hinting at what we'll be seeing in just a couple of days. Enough already.

Originally, we thought Lambo was simply teasing its new Jota supercar - the replacement for the aging Murciélago. However, further reports indicated that Lamborghini would be unveiling two new cars in Paris: the Jota, as well as a mystery car only known internally as "83X." To add to the confusion, a later report from Auto Guide stated that we wouldn't be seeing the highly anticipated Jota. Instead, a new technology concept would take the stage, crushing our highest hopes of some supercar hotness.

At this point, we're crossing our arms and tapping our feet out of impatience. Whatever Lamborghini has in store for the Paris show, we'll know for certain before the week's end. Have a look through our gallery below to see all of the Raging Bull teasers.

Well, color us surprised. According to the crew at Auto Guide, Lamborghini won't be pulling the sheets off the Jota at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Instead, the company plans to show off a single new technology concept. How's that for a buzz kill?

Questions have been kicking around for a few weeks about exactly what Sant'Agata had planned for the Parisian event. Most sources pointed to either a Murcielago or Gallardo successor as likely candidates - views fueled by the constant stream of teasers the company has released recently.

As you may recall, 0-60 put its hands on a dealer document that indicated that Lamborghini would be showing off two models at the Paris Motor Show. Auto Guide cites an unnamed source as saying that's simply not the case. Instead, the Raging Bull will show off a single concept with plenty of carbon fiber, a V10 mounted amidships and plenty of other tech the company will likely make use of on future models.

We'll find out exactly who's right soon. The Paris Motor Show kicks off next week.

If there are two things we know about Lamborghini, it's that a replacement for the outgoing Murciélago (tentatively dubbed Jota) is in the works, and that the automaker is bringing something to this year's Paris Motor Show. Our spies have just caught this heavily clad prototype doing its thing at the 'Ring, giving us the impression that Lambo's new V12-powered supercar will saunter its way onto the Paris stage.

We've seen the Jota running around for many, many months now, and the rumormilled specs are simply drool-worthy. The new 7.0-liter V12 will reportedly crank out over 700 horsepower, and when you combine that with a lightweight body made of carbon fiber and aluminum, the Jota will undoubtedly be stupidly fast. Of course, all-wheel drive is expected to be on hand to keep the Bull rubber-side down, with early reports suggesting that Audi's latest Quattro may provide the groundwork for the new system.

If we don't see the production-ready Jota in Paris, we'll eat our driving gloves. Or at least a tire valve cap. In the meantime, click through the high-res gallery below to see the latest Jota prototype running about.

A few years back, Lamborghini made big promises that it would have a new debut at every major international auto show, every year. That seemed like a big bite to chew for a company with essentially two models in its line-up, but the exotic carmaker from Sant'Agata has managed to keep up brilliantly.

Now, hot on the heels of reports indicating that the Raging Bull marque is preparing to unveil not one, but two new debuts at the upcoming Paris Motor Show comes the third in a series of teasers released by the company in anticipation. The question, then, is which we're looking at.

Well, for starters, it's quite clear that this is the dashboard of the car in question. And a nifty dashboard it looks indeed. But of which car? Given that the last teaser clearly showed a ten-cylinder engine, our guess is that it's not the highly anticipated replacement for the Murcielago, tentatively dubbed Jota, since that would presumably carry twelve cylinders. So your guess is as good as ours, but one way or another, we'll be finding out next week at the Port de Versailles, so stay tuned.

The plot thickens. Word 'round the web is that the minds at Sant'Agata have something special planned for the Paris Motor Show. Lamborghini will be bringing not one, but two new models to France next month. The news comes courtesy of the crew at 0-60 Magazine. From what we can tell, the Raging Bull will show up with the car that we've all come to know as the Jota, complete with a direct-injection V12, something like 715 horsepower and a heap of carbon fiber. That would be the little gem we've been seeing teasers of for the past month or so.

The second machine is a little more mysterious. A document obtained by 0-60 magazine indicates that the car is internally called the 83X. It could be the long-anticipated production version of the company's four-door Estoque concept, a new interpretation of the Gallardo or a flying ice cream truck for all we know. We're just guessing, here.

Either way, we don't have to wait long to find out. The company is planning a simultaneous unveil of both vehicles for dealers on September 23.

Another day, another look at the upcoming Lamborghini Jota. According to the press blast, the newest member of the Raging Bull family will be the beginning of something new for the company. Instead of trying to cram as much speed as possible into the chassis, the engineers at Sant'Agata are looking to put top speed on the back burner in favor of vehicle design, acceleration and, get this, handling. How do they plan to do that? By ditching a significant amount of weight. The company says that on average, its products now weigh 1,100 pounds more than they did 25 years ago thanks to additional safety equipment and creature comforts.

In order to help balance the scales, the company plans to get serious about extensively using carbon fiber to slim the waist line of all of its future products. We certainly like the sound of that.

Of course, increasing acceleration and handling by decreasing weight has never been the kind of thing to hurt our feelings, either. Hit the jump to read Lambo's sports car manifesto for yourself.

Step-by-step unveilings of new car models can be a painfully slow affair, but when it's something as exciting as a new Lamborghini, chances are that it'll be worth it in the end.

Following the barely-a-teaser shot released three months ago, this new image just released by the Italian factory gives us a glimpse at a section of what looks like the taillight on what is expected to be the company's new Murciélago successor. The Murci has served admirably in its range-topper role, having carried on in numerous variants since 2001.

What you're looking at is the first in a series of six teasers slated to be released by the Bolognese exotic automaker ahead of the car's expected debut at the upcoming Paris Auto Salon. The rest of the shots will undoubtedly follow in a timely fashion, so stay tuned.

Lamborghini (barely) teases Murcielago successor

Devastatingly fast as it is - particularly in the latest SuperVeloce form - the Lamborghini Murcielago is getting a little long in the tooth. Its successor has been spied undergoing testing time and time again, and now Sant'Agata has graced us (or perplexed us, depending on your perspective) with this solitary teaser image.

Now we've seen some cryptic teasers in our time, but this one has to take the cake. That the Murcielago's successor will have a hood of some sort, bear the Raging Bull emblem and is "Coming soon" serve as no great surprises. The rest is a matter of speculation, but we're expecting the exotic to be built largely from carbon fiber (replacing the archaic steel chassis on the outgoing Murci) and be shorter in length than its predecessor.

Sources also predict a fresh take on the classic Lambo scissor doors - possibly moving out before swinging up, sort of like a Koenigsegg - helping trim weight below the 1,500 kg (3,300 lb) mark. That could translate to a sub-3-second 0-60 sprint and a top end breeching 370 km/h (230 mph).

The Murcielago replacement - tentatively dubbed Jota - is expected to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show this fall. Dealers and VIP customers, however, could get a sneak peek as soon as next month, so stay tuned for leaks.

It's no secret that Lamborghini is working hard to get its Murcielago replacement, the Jota, out the door. We've already caught sight of heavily camouflaged prototypes in testing, and it appears that the highly anticipated supercar is on the move again, this time on public roads.

When the Jota launches in 2011, it will have some relatively big shoes to fill, but Lamborghini is definitely prepared to do battle with the next generation of supercars. The Jota will be lighter, more powerful and more high-tech than the outgoing Murcielago - curb weight is estimated to be around 3,300 pounds, and a new 7.0-liter V12 is in the works, rumored to produce over 700 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. Seven-speed transmissions, in both automated manual and sequential styles will be on hand, helping the Jota storm to 60 mph in just three seconds, on its way up to a top speed of 220 mph.

When will we see the production-ready Jota? Mum's the word on that one, but don't be surprised if it makes an early appearance at the Paris Motor Show later this year, with the first sales being made in mid-2011.

Nine years ago the Lamborghini Murcielago replaced the Diablo as the marque's biggest bull, and in the automotive world - even in the rarified supercar realm - that's a lifetime and a half. Given the Murcie's age and the planet's ever-tightening emissions standards, it should come as no surprised that Lamborghini is hard at work on the Murcielago's successor. And along with a new name, the Jota will pack more power, less weight and a range of high-tech appointments.

Although the camouflage doesn't divulge much in the way of the Jota's exterior, expect certain elements of the Reventon to carry over to the largest Lambo. However, we suspect that advanced aerodynamics (and likely some active elements) will find their way onto the Jota, toning down Lamborghini's patented extreme styling (think McLaren MP4-12C with more creases and LEDs).

More important than the exterior (or the interior, which will reportedly ditch the offset driving position), is the all-new V12 nestled amidships. Early reports indicate that the new 7.0-liter V12 will put out over 700 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque to a new seven-speed automated manual transmission, with a sequential 'box with the same number of ratios available as an option. Lamborghini has apparently deemed the use of a dual-clutch tranny to be too much of a hastle, and as reported previously, a traditional gated manual won't find its way into future Lambos.

With a curb weight of around 3,300 pounds, it's safe to assume that the carbon fiber chassis Jota will be able to break the 60 mph mark in around three seconds, hit 100 mph in around six ticks and top out at 220 mph. In keeping with recent tradition, all-wheel drive will be standard - this time an adaption of Audi's Quattro system - complete with a new torque-vectoring differential measuring power to the rear wheels.

Considering the current pace of development and Lamborghini's penchant for unveiling a new model at every major auto show, the Jota should make its debut later this year at the Paris Motor Show or sometime in early 2011, with sales beginning in the middle of next year.

Unfortunately, the Lamborghini Murciélago can't last forever. Despite producing a number of special versions to keep it fresh, including the LP640, LP 650-4 Roadster and LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, Lamborghini will eventually replace its most super of supercars.

Our spy photographers have caught up with Lamborghini engineers testing what could be the Murciélago's replacement in Scandinavia. Rumored to revive the "Jota" nameplate, this new car appears to be similar in size to the Murciélago. We're told to expect a new direct-inject V12 engine producing around 700 horsepower and a lighter overall weight thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber and aluminum. All-wheel-drive is a given, though this time around Lamborghini may use a new system developed in conjunction with Haldex. As for what it look like, expect inspiration to come from the Reventón, another Lambo based on the Murciélago.

Range-topping Lamborghini Urus rumored anew

So you like the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV, but you're struggling to justify the price. After all, it may be just as fast as the Reventón, but it only costs a third of that range-topping bull. You like that it's the latest limited-edition hypercar from Sant'Agata Bolognese, but will everyone think you're slumming by not getting the most expensive bull in the barn? Come to think of it, maybe you can hold out for the Reventón Roadster, which should easily surpass the coupe as the ne plus ultra in the Lambo lineup. Of course, you could just stick with your ordinary LP640-4 or LP650-4 Roadster a little longer and wait for the Murcielago replacement in a year or two.

When that so-called Jota finally debuts, it will bring with it a new carbon fiber chassis and an equally new direct-injected 6.0-liter V12 thought to be good for at least 700 horsepower. Yeah, that's probably the way to go. After all, the economy isn't exactly the best right now and plunking down $1.5M for a new car might make others unnecessarily envious. Haters. Of course, if you wait too long, you might find yourself debating waiting a little longer still for the Jota-besting halo car from Lamborghini, the rumored Urus.

CARS UK is quoting "a source close to Lamborghini" when they talk about this new halo vehicle, which is expected to take on all comers, especially that "FX70" Enzo-replacement coming out of Maranello. Using a modified Jota chassis, the Urus will go on an even stricter diet to make it a ~~featherweight~~ lighter heavyweight. It will drop the few bits of aluminum that are expected to be used on the Jota and go all carbon fiber. That, active aerodynamics, and a nearly 800 horsepower version of the Jota V12 in its engine bay should allow the Urus to challenge even the Bugatti Veyron with a sub-3-second 0-60mph time. The real question becomes -- Can you wait until 2012 for the Urus or will you buckle a year earlier and pop for the Jota in 2011? You know what, just get both.

If you've been waiting for Lamborghini to replace the aging Murcielago and were disappointed by recent reports that its successor may not arrive until 2012, the mavens over at Autogespot may have some good news for you.

While the Murci may stay on for another few years, word has it that Lamborghini is working on another model, apparently to run in parallel. The reports suggest that the new model, tentatively dubbed Jota (after the label previously used on special Miuras and Diablos of yore), will use the Murcielago's V12, albeit packaged in a shorter wheelbase with an even wider track and lightweight materials.

Any truth to the rumors? It's hard to tell, but in the meantime, Sant'Agata is said to be working on a Reventón Roadster to follow up on the limited-edition fighter jet-inspired supercar.
