General Motors has made it very clear the 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette borrowed more than a few engineering tricks from the mighty Corvette Racing C6R, leaving us to ponder on what exactly a C7R might look like. It seems our friend Jon Sibal was wondering the exact same thing. The designer recently took the time to whip up a rendering of an American Le Mans Series-prepared version of the new sportscar, and the creation looks as sinister on our screens as it did in our imaginations. With its exposed carbon fiber, matte black graphics, yellow lighting and center lug wheels, this rendering looks appropriately sinister.

Here's hoping Corvette Racing is paying attention. So far, the outfit hasn't said one word about its own take on the 2014 Corvette, but you can bet your lunch money the machine will give the rest of the competitors in the ALMS GT class something to sweat over. Check it out on Sibal's Facebook Page.
Jon Sibal renders the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7R originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 14 Jan 2013 19:29:00 EST.
It's April 2 today, which means we've made it through all the April Fools' Day gags (stay tuned for more on that front...) and it's time to turn to more serious stuff. And nothing is more serious than the 2013 SRT Viper that debuts on April 4 at the New York Auto Show.

While we've seen teasers and spy shots, renderings and some other assorted approximations of what the first Viper without a Dodge badge will look like, we think this latest one really kills it. Courtesy of artist Jon Sibel, this is one of those images that looks good enough to be the real thing. If it were, we'd be pleased with the new Snake. We imagine everyone at Chrysler would too.

Besides this great rear three-quarter shot, Sibel has done up a nice Viper roadster that you can see in our gallery.
One more rendered speculation of the new Viper before the big reveal originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 02 Apr 2012 16:27:00 EST.
Now that the dust has begun to settle after the SEMA explosion, we're discovering a handful of awesome videos that shed a little more light on some of our favorite cars from the show. That includes the ID Agency Ford Focus worked up with professional fixed-gear bike rider Michael Chacon. The hatch wears some seriously sexy BASF paint, and with a body kit drawn up by design guru Jon Sibal and a Wraptivo carbon fiber roof, the Focus has some serious attitude. An AEM cold-air intake and a Magnaflow exhaust help bump up the power, while a Brembo big brake kit is responsible for bringing the machine down from speed.

Inside sits a set of some of the most beautiful seats we've ever laid eyes on. The Sportster thrones were worked up by Recaro and feature two-tone leather and plenty of custom stitching. Do want.

The video after the jump spends plenty of time speaking with Chacon about his inspirations and what it's like to see SEMA from the outside. The clip is set to some pretty snappy tunes, including M83's "Midnight City." Hit the jump to check it out for yourself.
Continue reading ID Agency and Michael Chacon show off Ford Focus build

ID Agency and Michael Chacon show off Ford Focus build originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 14 Nov 2011 15:30:00 EST.
Rendering wizard and friend of Autoblog Jon Sibal (above left) managed to beat out a race-prepped iQ and a mid-engine version of the ultra-compact to take the win at this year's Scion Tuner Challenge at SEMA.

Sibal, who's brought a range of vehicles to Vegas in the past, partnered up with Veilside and Mike Vu (above right) to create one particularly insane creation fitted with a $7,000 prototype Veilside body kit, a special brew of matte bronze 3M paint and a 32-inch flatscreen fitted to a motorized mount that allows it to fit flush in the trunk. And there's apparently still room for groceries.

Sibal and Vu had been pushing for a partnership for some time and this iQ is the fruit of two months' worth of labor. Sibal and his team snagged a piston trophy for their efforts and a check for $10,000, which should help pay off the build. Or at least part of it...
Sibal wins Scion Tuner Challenge, walks away with $10K originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 03 Nov 2011 18:32:00 EST.
WekFest III is gearing up to take San Francisco by storm. The event is a celebration of Japanese automobiles and it kicks off at 1pm on February 20th, 2011. Last year, over 450 vehicles showed up, and this year should be no different. But there is one machine in particular that we're very interested in.

Fatlace, a boutique clothing store, is bringing along a stock 1974 Nissan Skyline 2000GT. The car will be shown off, then taken back into hiding to be transformed into the car you see pictured above... then given away to one lucky (LUCKY) winner.

Fatlace, thanks to the design work of the talented Mr. Jon Sibal, has a stylish end-goal for the Skyline. The car will be modified over the course of 2011 and presented to the winner at the Fatlace Klassik in October. We fully expect a ride.

Jon Sibal is a very talented artist, and he recently turned his virtual pen on the all-new 2012 BMW 1 Series M Coupe. This rendering is going to be more than just a desktop wallpaper and a dream, however, because a BMW tuning company in Chicago is going to build it.

IND Distribution is teaming up with Patrick BMW, Jon Sibal and a handful of other companies to make this 1M and its classic M livery a reality. The car will get the exterior upgrades and paintwork as well as a host of performance modifications to dial up the fun-meter. We can't wait to see the completed project.
Thanks for the tip, Andy!

It looks like we finally have a rendering to go with the rampant speculation about the introduction of a Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet. The ever-talented Jon Sibal has turned his attention to the drop-head Vee-Dub, and has worked up what he thinks the car might look like should the the people's automaker decide to pull the trigger on the project, which will reportedly commence in the spring of 2011. Martin Winterkorn, chairman of the board for VW, has already said that he would like to see a convertible version of the sixth-generation Golf, and as we all know, anything that Winterkorn wants, he typically gets.

Sibal's rendering certainly makes for a snappy dresser, though we're guessing that the production version will use a slightly beefier roll bar system. Of course, it's entirely possible that the topless Golf could do away with a center roll section altogether in favor of something similar to the sturdy hoops found in the Mini Cooper Convertible. Hop over to Sibal's site for a high-res look at the machine.

Could you imagine McLaren making a supercar and not racing it? Of course not. Even though the Woking, England-based outfit might have envisioned the original McLaren F1 purely as a road car, history naturally had different plans for it - and with spectacular results. So we were hardly surprised back in March when reports began coming in that The House That Bruce Built was planning a competition version of the new MP4-12C.

As was the case with the F1 and indicated by those earlier reports, McLaren's plans, according to AutoWeek, involves teaming up with independent racing garages to turn its road car into a racer. In this case, that firm is said to be CRS, a British outfit that's racked up a considerable number of victories in GT and open-wheel racing. But CRS will hardly be going it alone. Reports have McLaren's own people working on the design to be implemented by the outfit.

Lest you think there will only be a handful of MP4-12C competition cars on select tracks, reports have CRS building a fleet of some fifteen GT3-spec versions and another batch of GT2 machines that could find their way to Le Mans by 2013.

Nearly one year later, we're still digging the idea behind Meguiar's Wraptivo system. For under $2,000 you can design and have a professional installer wrap your car in vinyl, complete with custom graphics and textures. And to drum up more interest in the program after its debut at last year's SEMA show, Meguiar's has picked up a 2011 Honda CR-Z and enlisted the tuning talents of RJ De Vera and rendering artist Jon Sibal to show what it has planned for the 2010 show.

Naturally, the CR-Z Type-F Concept is focused on the matte black and "carbon fiber" wrap, but the real party pieces are underneath the vinyl.

A supercharger will be fitted to the anemic 1.5-liter four-pot, with a custom exhaust system and a Hondata ECU used to extract maximum power. Accessories from Honda's performance line will join a Tein suspension, HKS components and some Volk TE37 wheels, while the inside will benefit from a pair of Recaro buckets, Alcantara trim and a new shift knob. And while it might be easy to dismiss the Type-F (which apparently stands for "Fun") as a SEMA show queen, Meguiar's plans to enter it in Source Interlink's annual Super Lap Battle the week after the show. Get all the details in the press release after the jump and check out Sibal's high-res rendering above.

Brace yourself for big ol' dose of sexy. Ferrari hasn't exactly made a secret that this is the last year for the F430 GT in the American Le Mans Series. With its days numbered, more than a few souls have begun meditating on what will come next for the Prancing Horse's ALMS teams. Most have settled on the notion that the new 458 Italia will make its way to the paddock in race guise, resulting in a 458 GT. Fortunately for us, one of those contemplative souls just happens to be the design guru Jon Sibal.

Sibal worked up a quick rendering of what the new bruiser would look like, and we have to say we're smitten. The lunging lines of 458 Italia lend themselves well to an even more low-slung race stance. Throw in a few aerodynamic tweaks, a new set of shoes and proper rubber and you've got a genuine heart throb. Sibal says the rendering is just a quick shot at what the car looks like - we'd can't wait to see what happens when he takes his time with the car.

Daniel Garcia's Audi A9 Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery

From the front, high three-quarter angle, Daniel Garcia's Audi A9 concept is a little too reminiscent of BMW's Vision EfficientDynamics Concept. Yet, as is the case with so many geniune Audis, get to know it a bit more and you discover its beautiful and original secrets. As a concept, it's full of features like self-repairing panels and a pushbutton that changes the exterior color, but we have to admit we're digging those electroluminescent, spoked wheels.

Better yet is the exterior, with its inviting proportions, conceivable enough that if someone told us this will be the 2016 A7 Sportback we'd give them the benefit of the doubt. Have a better look at it in the gallery of high-res photos below, and we'll hope that one of Audi's coming software apps includes running a program that turns your A8 into this.

Rendering swipes? Jon Sibal vs. Mark Neeper - click above for high-res image gallery

In the May issue of Car and Driver, the pub peered through the looking glass to see what kind of product enthusiasts can look forward to in the next few years. The feature, entitled "25 Cars Worth Waiting For," combines some astute speculation and a few foregone conclusions with a rendering of each vehicle. However, one particular depiction caught the eye of ace auto artist Jon Sibal.

A rendering of the 2011 BMW M5 commissioned by C/D and created by artist Mark Neeper bore a striking resemblance to an image Sibal says he penned this past December. Considering both artists were working with existing information, the number of similarities - particularly the sculpted front bumper and side sills - could've been mere coincidence. But Sibal delved deeper and came across several disturbingly exact parallels.

In Sibal's own post, he breaks down each of the distinct items he included in his rendering, and while the first few examples could be taken as fluke coincidences, details like the precise lighting glare on the silver side mirrors, a swapped tow hook cover and the highlighting on the side sills were exact duplicates. More telling is Sibal's admission that he made a slight mistake on one side of the intake (not blending it in properly) which mysteriously made it onto Neeper's image. Additionally, Sibal added his own "watermark" - an odd, pinched line on the front bumper - which he claims, "was left in there purposely... to track and identify the parts of the car I've painstakingly designed and created."

To his credit, Sibal isn't out for blood or even monetary compensation; he's just looking for some attribution. And when we spoke with him earlier today, Sibal made it clear that he respects Neeper's work.

Neeper, who has yet to return our emails, is a well-respected artist who's been creating drawings and renderings for various publications for the better part of two decades.

Sibal says he has contacted C/D, but apparently has yet to receive a response. We've spoken with C/D and they're just as flummoxed as Sibal and are taking the matter very seriously as they embark on an investigation.

Check out the examples below for more proof, and get the full details on Sibal's site.

UPDATE: Although C/D's Editor-In-Chief Eddie Alterman wasn't willing to go on the record, he's extended his apologies to Sibal and intends to run the artist's letter in an upcoming issue. More importantly, Mark Neeper has publicly apologized to Sibal and you can read his explanation below:

Dear Mr. Sibal,

I am deeply sorry and embarrassed.

I had found or already had various M-Kits that were chopped out or semi-chopped out of their backgrounds, not properly comprehending where they sourced from - even factory photo "kits" of M edition vehicles, which in retrospect, I should have used. I am so embarrassed and hope you will accept my sincere apology for this error.

Your work is fantastic, and I hope we can be friends in the future, and thank you for your kind words in the midst of this mishap.

Sincerely,

Mark Neeper

Master photochopper Jon Sibal has put digital pen to virtual paper to render up the next BMW M5, but unlike his previous F11 'chops, he's applying his skills to the yet-to-be-confirmed Touring version of the mid-size bahn-burner.

As Sibal points out in his post, BMW has an on-again, off-again history when it comes to five-door versions of the M5, with the E28 and E39 only available sans-hatch, while the E34 and outgoing E60 have been available in five-door form.

There's a good chance that the F11 version will be made, nixing the current model's V10 powerplant in favor of a 570-horsepower twin-turbocharged V8 pulled from the X6 M. However, the chances of the hi-po hatch making it to the States is virtually nill, as the 5 Series Gran Turismo is set to take the standard Touring's place in the U.S. market. So does that mean a M5 GT could be in the works? Here's hoping, and maybe Sibal will render one up in the meantime.

McLaren MP4-12C GTR Longtail - Click above for high-res image gallery

Earlier this month we showed you the wishful renderings of a GTR variant of the McLaren MP4-12C. The car doesn't exist and no plans have been announced for a motorsports program, but just seeing the car in McLaren racing livery made us hope that the car does end up on the track. Now the same artist, Jon Sibal, has come up with some additional renderings of the car in longtail form.

For those of you not familiar with the term "longtail," it refers to the second-generation of McLaren F1 GTR race cars that competed in in the 1997 FIA GT championship. The extended bodywork at the front and rear was meant to improve aerodynamics and help the F1 compete with the likes of the Porsche GT1, Nissan R390 GT1 and the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR. Like the F1 GTR, the MP4-12C Longtail isn't as pretty as its shorter brother, but it's impressive nonetheless. You can check them all out in the high-res gallery below.

Jon Sibal's rendering of the Ferrari 458 Spider -- Click above for high-res image

Now that the Ferrari 458 Italia has been let loose to glare at the world, it is only a matter of time before it's followed by a 458 Italia Spyder sibling. While we wait for Ferrari to provide us images of that car, computer rendering artist Jon Sibal has gone ahead and created his version of the newest droptop stallion.

It will be interesting to see how Ferrari intends to fit all of that roof into the severely tapering rear end. If they can keep it looking like the car above, then they'll have worked magic on this car twice.

Gallery: Ferrari 458 Spider Rendering

[Source: Jon Sibal via Sub5Zero]
'Cause You Know It's Coming: Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder rendered originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 30 Jul 2009 15:28:00 EST.
Some of us live in the real world, while other spend time in Fantasyville. Jon Sibal falls into the latter, and we're happy for it. The talented illustrator had given us glimpses of upcoming supercars - including the Ferrari Scuderia Spider, Mercedes SLR Speedster (later revealed as the Stirling Moss edition) and Aston Martin One-77 - before the manufacturers have released official pictures. So what would Sibal drive himself? Well, needless to say, it doesn't exist (yet), but while you might think it'd be some fantastic derivative of an upcoming supercar, what Jon has picked out for himself is a BMW M3 Touring wagon.

The current-generation M3 is currently made in three bodystyles: the E90 sedan, E92 coupe and E93 convertible. If you were <strike>high</strike> astute enough to follow the psychedelic pinball counting cartoon on Sesame Street as a child, you'll have noticed that the E91 is missing from the equation. That's the designation for the current 3 Series station wagon. BMW's anticipated to roll out an M3 wagon sometime in the next few months, but Sibal's not waiting around, and has given us these renderings to hold us over. While he was at it, he dropped the ride height down to the floor with a KW coil-over suspension, fitted a titanium exhaust, AC Schnitzer spoilers front and back, BBS mags coated in Yokohama rubber and Brembo eight-pot brakes, then added a supercharger to the M3's V8 and painted it satin white for good measure. Not too shabby, and not too far-fetched, either. Who knows, if Sibal earns what he deserves, maybe this fantasy can become reality when BMW unleashes the latest M3 Touring on the world.

Gallery: BMW M3 Touring renderings by Jon Sibal

[Source: JonSibal.com via BMW Blog]
Rendered Speculation: BMW M3 Touring wagon by Jon Sibal originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 19 Jan 2009 20:31:00 EST.
Click for more 430 Scuderia Spider renderings in hi res

Lies. Damn lies and speculation. Rumor would be another way to put it, as word of a potential convertible version of the 430 Scuderia spreads across cyberspace. Tentatively referred to as the 430 Scuderia Spider, the roadster would naturally be based on the lightweight, Enzo-rivaling 430 Scuderia supercar, but with the roof chopped off.

Various reports have given conflicting information about what kind of roof mechanism would be fitted to the Spideria, including a retractable hard-top similar to that found on the new California, a manual cloth roof to keep weight down, or the same automatic fabric top from the conventional F430 Spider. Or maybe no roof at all, who knows. The wide range of speculation leads us to chalk this up to pure rumor. The removal of structural rigidity and the addition of weight would seem antithetical to the Scuderia's entire raison d'etre. However the prevailing reports suggest that the Spider will also get the California's new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, be produced in a limited series of 300 and be unveiled on November 5 at the Ferrari Challenge weekend in Mugello... the same event where Ferrari unveiled the FXX Evoluzione last year. Jon Sibal, the skilled supercar illustrator we've come to know and trust, has presented a few renderings of what the 430 Scuderia Spider could look like, which in our eye looks right on the money and you can see for yourself in the gallery below.

It's not every day that a new supercar is announced. But those are the good days, and for when they roll around, Jon Sibal is ready. The gifted illustrator who has already brought us renderings of the upcoming Mercedes SLR McLaren Speedster and a race-prepped Lexus LF-A has now taken a stab at the upcoming Aston Martin One-77.

The new flagship supercar from Aston Martin was announced earlier this month and accompanied by a few teaser renderings from the factory. Those were followed by a rather uninspired speculative conception of what form the carbon-fiber supercar would take, and though we're not sure what to make of Sibal's take on the subject, it does appear to be rather accurate. We just hope the One-77 looks better in the flesh, as we've come to expect more from the company that brought us the DBS and the V8 Vantage.

With a host of new exotics coming out from both Mercedes-Benz and its F1 and erstwhile supercar partner McLaren, the ageing Mercedes SLR McLaren is about to be shown the back door. But not before one last hoorah. And if this illustration is any indication, it will be one rip-roaring, ear-piercing hoorah indeed.

Based on the spy shots that have already surfaced of the SLR McLaren "Speedster" (we don't know if that's what it'll be called officially, but that's the name we've been tossing around), talented illustrator Jon Sibal has crafted the rendering you see above. According to Sibal, the headlights will be the only element of the exterior carried over from previous incarnations of the SLR to the new, more hardcore roofless swan-song. The hood, which previously melded into the A-pillars, is more flat; the nose draws even more direct inspiration from McLaren-Mercedes formula racing cars; the exhaust pipes have been moved into the side vents... oh yeah, and there's no roof. None whatsoever. There's barely any windshield for that matter, just a couple of deflectors. Needless to say, we hope the actual vehicle turns out to be as dramatic as Sibal's conception.

Check out the gallery below to see the rendering in high-resolution, along with our previous crop of spy shots of the SLR Speedster.
