Though producing biodiesel fuel by extracting oil from the Jatropha curcas plant is relatively common in some nations, Iran has, for the first time ever, managed to successfully convert Jatropha into biodiesel. Iranian scientists cultivated the Jatropha curcas plant, a species that's native to tropical subtropical regions, in Southern Iran.

BioJet International Ltd. has received a whopping $1.2 billion of financial backing from Equity Partners Fund SPC. The massive amount of capital will allow BioJet, an international supplier of renewable aviation fuels, to fund its biofuel development and launch projects aimed at expanding the use of renewable feedstocks.

With an official decision on whether or not to re-up the $1 per gallon federal tax credit for biodiesel producers not expected until mid-April, continuing tariffs in the EU and an economy still floundering, it is most definitely safe to say the biodiesel industry has seen brighter days, at least here in the U.S. For the industry, it's a good thing there's India.
