Season Two of Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee kicked this week in style. How much more style is there to be had than in a 1969 Jaguar XKE, after all? This time around, Seinfeld and Sarah Silverman spend some time driving around in the "slinky, sexy" Jag, talking comedy and then grabbing breakfast.

In addition to the kickoff of the show's second season, this episode also represents the start of a 24-episode sponsorship with Acura. The original deal promised short ads at the beginning and end of each episode, but this time around, Seinfeld "stumbles upon" a 2014 Acura RLX, which is obviously - and admittedly - the work of product integration. Scroll down to watch Seinfeld and Silverman exchange banter with the Jag's beauty as a happy backdrop.
Continue reading Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee season 2 opens with Sarah Silverman and Jag E-Type

Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee season 2 opens with Sarah Silverman and Jag E-Type originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 15 Jun 2013 11:01:00 EST.
Jay Leno looks inward on this episode of his eponymous garage, checking out a 1963 Jaguar XKE that he bought earlier this year. It is an example of his favorite kind of car, that being original and unrestored. He bought the E-Type from its first owner, a woman who purchased it new, held on to it for 50 years and took excellent care of it. Having never been in an accident, Leno says even the paint is 85- to 90-percent original.

In the video, the XKE sits in front of two heavily modded XK120s and another '63 XKE, but Leno said all he's done - and all he plans to do - is clean it up and put on a modern set of wire wheels for safety.

He's not on any junket and there are no guests, it's just a guy talking about an object dear to his heart. If you need a refresher on the excellent genes of the new F-Type, check out the video below.
Continue reading Jay Leno's Garage features funnyman's 1963 Jaguar E-Type

Jay Leno's Garage features funnyman's 1963 Jaguar E-Type originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 25 Apr 2013 12:45:00 EST.
There's no question that David Paddison has got a very lovely 1974 Jaguar E-Type convertible. The rubber bumpers of this late E-Type may distract ever so slightly from the purity of the lines, but that doesn't mean we're still not completely jealous of the latest Petrolicious subject car.

As usual, the team of vintage car videographers has done a fine job capturing a small moment of gear-headness with this latest installment - The Last of the Breed. We do wonder why we don't get to hear a little bit more of that famed Jaguar V12 rumble, however. There's just a whiff of engine and exhaust sound in the middle of the video, while the rest of the piece sounds like it was scored by Amy Grant's rhythm guitarist. See for yourself, below.
Continue reading Petrolicious profiles one of the final Jaguar E-Types

Petrolicious profiles one of the final Jaguar E-Types originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 10 Apr 2013 16:58:00 EST.
In terms of classic car rallies, the Targa California is a fairly young event. In it's fourth running, the event is a NASA-sanctioned, non-competitive rally that features classic machinery from 1975 and earlier on a jaunt through some of central California's most beautiful countryside. The three-day event is open to any make and model, right down to vintage pickups, so this is our kind of party. The crew from Petrolicious Productions captured this year's batch of drivers as they wound through the dirt roads and rolling coastline.

The five-minute clip is loaded to the brim with beautiful machinery, from BMW 2002 racers to classic Porsche 911 and 914 models, as well as more than a few Jaguar E-Type and Alfa Romeo participants. From the looks of things, if it's cool, it's in the Targa California. With excellent camerawork and plenty of drool-worthy tin, the video is well worth your time. Check it out below.
Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, few automobile shapes are as imitated as the legendary Jaguar E-Type. Of course, Jaguar itself has drawn inspiration from its most iconic sportscar with the contemporary XK and the more recent C-X16 concept. Eagle has reinterpreted the classic with modern accoutrements. And about a year ago a Swedish designer by the name of Bo Zolland rendered a sumptuously retro re-imagination of the form with the Growler E.

That design was slated to go into limited production by a firm called Visualtech, but now the design has resurfaced under a new moniker: Lyonheart. Based on a tweaked version of Zolland's renderings, designer Robert Palm has given the retro E a slightly more aggressive look, with more catlike headlamps and retro touches that are somehow even more pronounced.

The new Anglo-Swiss outfit intends to render the shape in carbon fiber, stainless steel, brushed aluminum, chrome, leather and wood veneer and put it into limited production in England for 495,000 euros a pop - equivalent to about $650K. Power is slated to come from a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 with 550 metric horsepower (542 by our standards) and 500 pound-feet of torque, which - coupled with a curb weight targeted under 3,500 lbs - aims to propel the Lyonheart K from 0-62 mph in under four seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 300 kph (186 mph).

It seems we may never get enough of Jeremy Clarkson. The Top Gear host always attracts loads of attention no matter what he does, and it doesn't hurt that he always seems to surround himself with some of the most beautiful machines on the planet.

That doesn't change for his new DVD, which is titled 'Powered Up.' Clarkson and his band of highly skilled photogs shot the DVD at the Paul Ricard circuit in France, and the post-jump trailer gives us a good idea of the automotive stars of this show.

Hit the jump to watch four minutes of Sir Clarkson as he takes on the McLaren MP4-12C, Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, Jaguar E-Type Convertible and plenty more. Even Formula 1 driver Karun Chandhok got in on the fun, if a high-speed spin-out in a 911 GT3 is your idea of a good time. 'Powered Up' goes on sale on November 7.
Continue reading Jeremy Clarkson releases trailer for new 'Powered Up' DVD

Jeremy Clarkson releases trailer for new 'Powered Up' DVD originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 11 Oct 2011 20:00:00 EST.
It's difficult to choose where to be on Friday during the Monterey Car Week. Various car shows vie for our attention, including the Quail Motorsports Gathering, Concorso Italiano and Legends of the Autobahn. Deciding where to spend our time on Saturday, however, is easy. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is the place to be, with the Monterey Motorsports Reunion hosting hundreds of vintage race cars at the famous 2.24 mile racetrack.

Jaguar was this year's featured marque, highlighting the 50th anniversary of the E-Type. We generally think of the famous Jag as a beautiful road car, but it was a fierce competitor on track as well. An entire race category was dedicated to the E-Type, which made for an incredible sight.

Of course, not all of the race groups were Jaguars, and some of our favorite regulars were back at the track for another year. We always enjoy seeing the Shelby Mustangs and Cobras battle it out with the Corvettes, the IMSA racers, and of course the ever-competitive Trans-Am cars of the late 1960s and early 1970s. We only wish we could stay at the track all weekend to see every race.

Couldn't make it out to Laguna Seca for the Motorsports Reunion? No worries, we've got you covered. Just browse through our high-res photos in the gallery above.
2011 Monterey Motorsports Reunion originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 21 Aug 2011 12:02:00 EST. Jaguar E-type sculpture for 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed - Click above for high-res gallery

Every year, the Goodwood Festival of Speed selects one automaker as its featured marque and commissions a unique sculpture in its honor. With the iconic Jaguar E-Type celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Goodwood has picked Jaguar for the seat of prestige at this year's event, and this is the installation that will do the job.

Inspired by the E-Type's shape, rather than crafted from it as other sculptures have been in years past, this installation is made from half a kilometer of steel tubing made for gas pipelines. The material was supplied by Jaguar's sister company, Tata Steel, with each tube measuring nearly four feet in diameter with walls half an inch thick.

Like the pieces that preceded it, it was crafted by Goodwood's sculptor-in-residence Gerry Judah. All in all the piece stands over 90 feet tall and weighs 150 metric tons, took 10 days for a team of bridge-builders to install and will be displayed along with Jaguar's current range as well as the C-X75 turbine-hybrid concept car at the event. Full press release after the jump.
Continue reading Jaguar E-Type celebrated with Goodwood sculpture

Jaguar E-Type celebrated with Goodwood sculpture originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 01 Jul 2011 18:32:00 EST.
A staple vehicle at Irvine, California's Cars and Coffee, this Jaguar Lightweight E-Type was heading north on Interstate 5 when it was involved in an accident. Cited in the article as a "1968 Jaguar," this car is either a Lightweight E-Type replica or the article has the year wrong. Regardless, it's a beautiful machine, and you can see it in its pre-smashed state on The Car Lounge.

Witnesses report that the Jag lost a rear wheel, which led to a chain reaction accident involving a Honda Civic, Toyota Yaris and a semi-truck. Drivers and passengers in the Civic and Yaris were taken to UCI Medical Center, while the driver of the Jaguar and the big rig were unhurt. Well... the driver of this Jaguar wasn't physically hurt.
Jaguar Lightweight E-Type introduced to Southern California traffic originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 20 May 2011 18:59:00 EST. Growler E 2011 Concept by Bo Zolland - Click above for high-res image gallery

The Jaguar E-Type turns 50 this year, and we continue to pine for its classic lines to this day. Bo Zolland, a car designer from Sweden, is clearly also a fan of the iconic E-Type shape. Unlike most of us, though, he has the tools and skill to generate a vision of what the E-Type might look like were it to come back to life in the 21st century.

Zolland calls his rendered Jaguar homage the Growler E 2011 Concept, and it clearly takes design cues from the original version. We also spy some 240Z and Chevrolet Corvette, though you could just as easily say those cars learned their lines from the E-Type.

Fittingly, the Growler would be built atop the guts of a Jaguar XKR, which would also donate its 5.0-liter V8 engine (tuned to produce 600 horsepower). Check out Bo Zolland's Growler E 2011 Concept in the gallery below. Sound off with your thoughts on his design in the comments.

Jaguar testers have just been caught running around the British countryside with a pair of camouflaged XK coupes. One looks to be the upcoming facelifted XKR, while the other appears to be a mysterious - and as-yet unnamed - more powerful XKR variant.

Rumor has it that this super XKR could be named the XK-E in honor of the 50th anniversary of Jaguar's legendary E-Type. We really only know two things about it at the moment: it's based off the 530-horsepower XKR Goodwood Special, and we're dying to see it in Jaguar's booth at the upcoming 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

Jaguar's iconic E-type is celebrating a birthday this year and the shapely Brit is going to need 50 candles on its cake. Launched in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type was priced at £2,256, or about $3,612 USD based on current exchange rates. That £2,200 cost translates to £38,000 today, or about $61,000... a bargain compared to other exotic sports cars of its time and it was just as capable, with a top speed of 150 miles per hour.

Jaguar sold 70,000 E-Types over the course of 14 years and its style still holds up to this day. In fact, the styling of the E-Type gives other cars of any era cause to look in the mirror and weep silently. Even Enzo Ferrari called it "the most beautiful car in the world."

To honor the sultry coupe, Jaguar is planning a variety of motoring events throughout the year. The brand is the featured marquee at the 2011 Monterey Motorsports reunion and E-Types will be the toast of this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Nürburgring Old Timer Grand Prix and kicking off the birthday festivities will be the Silverstone Classic.

Preparations are already underway for Monterey car week this coming August, and that includes naming the featured marques for each event. Mazda Raceway is kicking things off by declaring Jaguar a the star manufacturer for the Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Jaguar has a special history with Mazda Raceway and the vintage races, with Phil Hill winning the inaugural Pebble Beach Road Races in 1950 behind the wheel of a Jaguar XK120. This will be the third time Jaguar has been selected, having previously been featured in 1976 and 1992.

The historic races will highlight the Jaguar C-Type, which will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of its 24 Hours of Le Mans victory in 1951 - the first of seven for Jaguar. The races will also feature the 50th anniversary of the elegant Jaguar E-Type. For more details visit mazdaraceway.com or read the official details in the press release after the jump.

Grace and pace and something else - click above for high-res image gallery

Grace and pace. One cannot properly talk Jaguar without mentioning the brand's calling car. For the last 75 years those two attributes have separated Jag from the rest of the pack. After all, not only did the E-Type look that good, but when is debuted in 1961 few cars could match its speed. Those that could, well, they sure didn't look like a Jaguar.

Lately however, the shag-you-are song hasn't exactly remained the same. Don't get us wrong, the brand's adherence to V8s and superchargers has largely ensured the pace part of the equation has been there, but grace... not so much. Or, in the case of the Europe-only diesel X-type Estate (read: station wagon), both terms were rudely, death knellingly absent.

To mark the occasion of their 75th anniversary Jaguar is claiming the old mojo is back. As something more than casual observers of the auto industry, we can assure you that they aren't far off. Five seconds into any journey featuring the brand's new 5.0-liter supercharged V8 will make a believer out of anyone. Moreover, the few fleeting minutes we've spent inside the new XJ's cockpit have made us born again. It might very well be the most graceful interior on planet earth. Now if they could just do something about the XK's snout... Make the jump to check out Jaguar's 75th Anniversary press release, and enjoy the gallery-it's superb.

Oh, joy - another car to add to our never ending bucket list. Your eyes are drooling over the Eagle E-type Speedster. Starting with a plain old Jaguar E-type and a very wealthy client, Jag specialist Eagle shot for the moon and landed in the Sea of Automotive Tranquility. Okay, it's a lousy metaphor, but just look at this beautiful bloody thing! We're out of superlatives, and we haven't even got to the really good stuff. Let's start with the engine. Buried under that gorgeous bonnet is a fully built 4.7-liter straight-six that makes 300 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque. Not impressive by 2009 standards until you consider a few facts. First, all that torque shows up at 1,750 rpm. Second, the E-type Speedster weighs just a dumbbell over 2,400 pounds (2,420 to be exact). That's ten pounds more than a brand new Mazda MX-5 Miata, but the Eagle has fully twice the power. As such, zero sixty happens in less than five seconds and the top speed is 175 mph.

Then there's the body. Most noticable at first glance is the chopped windscreen. Look a little harder and you'll notice the "hidden" A-pillars. Both the sills and the floor pan were lowered, which is why the bloke up top looks so teeny. Not only did Eagle extend the track of the rear wheels, but the further flared the body's already unrealistically butch haunches. They even narrowed the license plate opening. Then there's the lusty cockpit where the rear deck extends all the way into the passenger compartment creating a Corvette-like central waterfall. And look at the leather they used! In case you're wondering, the hand brake is concealed under the center panel. Then you got the all-aluminum dash, the spectacular wire-wheels complete with three-spoke spinners - honestly, the goodness of the Eagle E-type Speedster never ends.

Gallery: Eagle E-type Speedster

[Source: EagleGB via CAR]

Hello, I Love You: Eagle E-Type Speedster originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 28 Jul 2009 12:32:00 EST.
Click above to high-res image gallery of the Jaguar painted like a jaguar

We like Jaguars. It's hard not to with their rich racing heritage, alluring lines and silky-smooth ride. What you see here, however, is a genuine example of taking things too far.

Now we have no doubt that people have done horrible things to Jaguars over the years, but this was no mid-life paint job. What you're looking at is one of the first E-Types imported into the United States. The third one, in fact, featuring the flat floor that characterized the first 500 Series-1 examples to roll off the assembly line in 1961. Apparently, the original owner, a Jaguar dealer, was so excited to get one of the first examples that he had it airbrushed with this rather *ahem* unique theme and put it on display in his showroom to attract customers. Well, it probably garnered its fair share of attention, but we doubt many were convinced to buy a new one. Then again, as the old saying goes, there's no such thing as bad publicity.

[Source: Steelworks via Hemmings]
The Cat's Meow: a Jaguar painted to look like... a Jaguar originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 19 Jan 2009 12:31:00 EST. However, the XF and XK have a long way to go before they can stand up to the most famous leaping cat of all: the Series 3 E-Type. The legendary roadster lived on for 13 years, with 72,529 samples sold during that time. With a little help from a treasure-trove of brand new E-Type parts, Jaguar Enthusiasts Club member Ray Parrott made it 72,530.

When Jaguar completed the E-Type's production run, the company shipped off all of the roadster's leftover parts to one E-Type fan. The owner held possession of the cache since 1974, but old age forced him to sell off the NOS parts. A friend of Parrott's purchased the parts then sold them to him. What was included? An unused V12 engine, gear box, instrument panel, body, and upholstery. In all, 95% of the parts needed to make E-Type 72,530, including original Dunlop tires. So Parrott did what any engineering whiz with a love for E-Types: he found the other 5% of parts and built the 34 year old, all new roadster. The completed E-Type is a black V12 roadster with a tan interior. Parrott is awaiting registration of his new baby, and he even built a new high-end garage next to his home to house his five E-Types. We're guessing Ray's new E-Type is worth a pretty penny. Hit the read link below to get an unabridged version of Ray's amazing tale.

[Source: Classic and Performance Car]
Man builds entire Jaguar Series 3 E-Type from unused factory parts originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 08 Dec 2008 07:59:00 EST. It's not uncommon to find Chuck weighing in on various topics in our comment threads, and those of you who've taken the time to click on his name are probably familiar with Chuck's blog, in which he details his exploits behind the wheel of his '65 E-Type Jag. That car is today's RR of the Day.

Chuck's dad restored the slinky cat as a retirement project. Once it was done, he and Chuck then ran it in several vintage rallies, including the New England 1000, which they completed three times. As Chuck tells it, the good times came screeching to a halt when the car suffered flood damage in Houston, TX. The restorer they contracted afterward made life miserable for Chuck's dad, who began to seriously consider just selling the Jaguar.

In what he calls a "momentary lapse of reason," Chuck stepped in and bought the car from his dad in 2003. Since then, he's brought his sons into the fold, getting them hooked on the hobby as they turn vintage rallies, autocross events, car shows, and good old road trips into family affairs.

When Chuck made that decision to buy the car from his father and keep it in the family, it became more than just a car. It became an heirloom -- the kind of thing that brings family members together for generations to come.

It's simply beautiful, Chuck. Thanks for sharing it with us.

If you'd like to see your own ride featured here, simply upload photos of your ride into our Flickr group. It was joined by some seriously exotic hardware on the four-day journey, including the stunning Mercedes 300 SLS Porter (great story about that car here), a bevy of E-Types, including a dead-sexy low drag '61 car, and a pair of Alfa Romeo Giulia TZs -- a '63 TZ1 and a '65 TZ2 -- just to name a few examples.

Alan has a gallery of brilliant photos from the race that we encourage you to check out. The event's official site has a full entrant list and a lot of great information about the race if you're interested in learning more about it as well.

This is one we wish we were on hand for.

(More photos after the jump)

[Source: Alan Guerzoni]
Continue reading Vintage metal converges at the Modena Cento Ore Classic

Vintage metal converges at the Modena Cento Ore Classic originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 27 Jul 2006 19:58:00 EST.
